chaircover:
I have tried to read all the posts to this topic and have been a little surprised at the few absurd views of some posters.
I do however agree that it is indeed a great shame that there are a lot of Nigerians out here who contribute so much to their adopted countries while their home county Nigeria suffers.

A good example of this is Nigeria managing to win a silver medal at the Olympics while 2 athletes of Nigerian descent won Gold medals for the UK.

Contrary to a few misguided posts about Nigerians flipping burgers and 99% unable to buy a car etc, there are a lot of professionals in very high places in the Government, IT, medical, business, etc I don’t believe that  there is any NHS hospital in the UK which doesn’t employ at least one Nigerian consultant. The IT contractors in my bank earn between £300 to £1000 a day and there are at least 2 Nigerian Mayors I have heard of.
The question is “is Nigeria ready for these professionals”? The other day I pointed out an error on the website of one of the Nigerian banks to them, but no one bothered to respond and months later the error still remains on their website.

A cousin of mine left the USA and relocated back to Nigeria. He got a very good job but he spends N150,000 a month from his salary on diesel to keep his generators going 24 hours a day to keep his children comfortable.

Many Nigerians will like to go back and contribute to their great nation but realistically with the security & power problems it is something that has to be though about very seriously before making the move.

Home is where the heart is and those of us not ready to go back will continue to strive to excel in our chosen fields and keep something aside for a rainy day for when we go back home. It’s never too late to contribute so long as it is not a negative contribution.
No the question is , Is the professionals ready for Nigeria?. . . what is the point of solving a problem that is already solved. . . But in this country's sake there are some problems that are not solved yet. . . the so called professionals can't just expect to receive a RED CARPET welcome just because they are from abroad and professionals. . . Therefore that is why the country needs people to sacrifice and i mean SACRIFICE and build it up. So that means sometimes ther wudn't be light (this gives us the opportunity to come up with ideas to solve the light issue), sometimes ther would be mosquito bites, sometimes ther would be people that discourage u , but we have to look past all that because we suppose to be focused on the result. I mean this is our problem and we have to solve it,  we can't always keep running forever. come on people we have brains,  we can solve this. . . It is for our own good.

For example if the African Americans of the segregation days ( ex, Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman) did not sacrifice their comfort zones. . . most of us would not be wher we are in abroad today. . . a lot of people would still be getting lynched and killed because of racism

And people if u want to contribute in Nigeria. . . u cannot be sayin ME, ME, ME. . . or asking what would Nigeria do for me? WE ARE NIGERIA so do it by your self. . . Put your selfish desires aside.

BUT IF You ARE NOT READY TO SACRIFICE I URGE You NOT TO CONTRIBUTE IN NIGERIA
May the Lord Jesus Christ bring people together that are ready.

fair enough, but you don't get what im saying though right now im studying and lets face it its easier to face your studies full time if you can afford it than working and studying at the same time, i personally cannot and i was left to make a choice if i wanted to work or not, that is why i said that i will be working in nigeria once im finished here to show that its not like ill be chilling out doing nothing, if i wanted to i could as well but like you said its not responsible and thats just plain lazy,i just believe in putting stuffs in the right perspective i.e in my own case anyway, theres always a time for everything.
dude forget about that old mantra of money worked for and money earned, i appreciate my parents a lot for the help and i do my bit anytime in nigeria ill give you an idea of what i do for charity on my fb if you're on there, and i have no hang ups about getting financial help from my dad and i wouldnt change that for the world, if you have an option of not working whille you are studying and you are then im sure you have a very good reason to which is known to you but as for me, ill rather go from my class to the library and then back home to ait in that cold winter than subjecting myself to working when i really don't need to ,so as to prove a point , parnts are diffrent and mine have diffrent ways of judging responsibility smiley
dude,my gangster name s just a facade, sorta like the harder outer shell of chocolate and a soft inside
i seriouly feel u, we are kinda in the same shoes. . . my loving mother and I joined our heads together and we made a plan, if i faced my studies and take the maximim number of classes dat are comfortable for me (4-5 classes)however having to get A's and B's then she can do the work. .I kinda had to take the offer i had no choice. So i can finish quickly so both of us can head back to Nigeria. . Thank u Jesus i am done with my first degree. . but some of the friends i started with are still in school because most of them took like 1 or 2 classes with their Jobs. . i do respect them a lot for working so hard. kiss

i can foresee alot of trapped nigerians in the west in the future. 50 to 60 yr old naija woman and men existing in a society where u cannot fully come into your own at that age as in you are a reject to society because you are old and a minority. kids don't want to see your ol ass around unlike in naija where elders are respected. oh well. this our generation will be something to watch out for in the next 20 to 30 years. be a bunch of ol ass nigerians all over american nursing homes demanding for eba and pomo cheesy

@ those sayin I can't leave my so called "COMFORT Zone"

if somebody didn't build up the so called "COmfort Zone" and made it what it is today. . . what mouth would u use to talk, and i bet u wudn't line up all day in the sun to get any visa. . undecided

please nobody is forcing u to come to Nigeria. . . but why blab about a problem if u  don't intend on giving a solution ( and being apart of it). . .   wink

But remember a day would come when Nigeria becomes "Your Standard". . . don't think u can just come and enjoy what other people worked for and contributed to make better. . . Because u were not apart of the history. . .   angry

Go and read the book of Nehemiah in the Bible perfect example
Up NIgeria  cool

I AM Coming back to my God given country Nigeria, I am soooooo happy , YEeeeaa

@ topic
if they like they should come home, if they like they shudn't, that is their own loss. That means more ideas for me to contribute and more resources for me to enjoy in Nigeria, no more being a foreigner, no more being an immigrant, no more deceiving myself grin

I guess some people abraod are waiting for one "mighty hero" to come and miraculously improve Nigeria, ha ha ha, dreamers. Then i guess they would come home, but that is if Nigeria would allow them back in. cool

let me go and finish packing grin

@ madamkoko and lepashandi
don't waste ur breath any longer the future would tell, we can talk and talk but majority never listen, God knows the faithful ones who are ready to sacrifice anything to improve what He gave them (Nigeria).

ferdiii:
Come back nao!!
Do u think it is that easy to come back to nigeria once u get to the US. It takes the miracle of God,  the only thing u can really do is come and visit in nigeria and half the time it is on credit that people buy their ticket,  And when they come back from their one week vacation, they have to work their butts off, taking shit from their bosses to pay their credit card debt. Some people are craving to come back to Nigeria but no money saved up because they are paying bills and taxes most of the time.

Well i am coming back to my homeland Nigeria after 10 long years,  Thank u Jesus for saving me from disguised slavery.  grin

Sky Blue!!! Hey, it always seems a sunny day when i read ya posts!!!
Thanks for more input on the matter of one like myself coming back home to try a piece at personal and national wealth.
I have researched my market, it is actually a market that is virtually demanded by everyone everywhere, the location has developed and its not in the middle of nowhere so my stocks of supplies will go but the thing is to think bigger after 1-2 years of doing it.
Besides, I have other talents that can come in handy like Office working or IT Contracting but I'm really trying to focus on the last thing EVERYBODY is doing, like something that has been ignored or needs attention of very few willing to commit to making it a biz.
Yeah, i did go over board putting my personal b.i in respponse to a post but its a true thing for people to check ones oathes to COME BACK TO AFRICA.
Europeans have scared us into not wanting to return to THE DARK CONTINENT and good or bad meaning brothers and sistas will utter words of encourgement or discouragement as the case may be about coming back after many years to a land that is either VERY BEAUTIFUL/BOUNTIFUL or PLAIN SCARY!!!
My assertion of Naija is the former (Beautiful etc) and it's also my right as a proud black westernized soul to return to Mother Africa to see what his destiny will be in a land they say is truly our home. I've been a traveller of sorts in the past 2 decades, why not travel back to Africa instead of Spain or Italy? Why not have another life adventure somewhere I can call home away from present UK home?
It just sounded funny hearing/seeing a 'joke' that I wouldnt last 2 years or so, it takes at least 12 months to see if your biz is doing good numbers and another 12 months for it to to fail with bad numbers/returns even if you put your back into it and it still failed.
All I know is I'm treating my return as my life in my own hands finally and totally so my future for the next 5-10 years depends on that return.
Best believe this JJC is going to fight life a rat backed into a corner to survive in good ol grimey Nigeria.
I really, really can't wait to come home!!!

Stay blessed, Sky Blue and the rest of the crew, man tummy dey rumble, feeding the dog has made me hungry, LOL!

Peace,
A prayer for HolyMic

May God Continue to bless u, and whatever u lay ur hands on will prosper in the name of Jesus, because u see treasure in what everybody else calls trash. No matter what, do not give up Jesus is behind u 100%. continue to rely on God and he would show u the way, I am on my way back to my God given country (Nigeria) also to see what i can contribute ( mosquito or no mosquito, Nepa or no Nepa).

So I'll see ya ther wink

@ matured
i feel this topic forreal, a lot of peeps in nigeria don't wanna take care of there country because they think a platter of gold is awaitin them in another so called developed country, and until they get there they would find out that all that glitters is not gold. may we Nigerians one day realise the treasures we have in our own country and use it to our advantage. And lets stop using the government as an excuse plsss, WE are the government.

landis:
You are joking, right?

If those people did not create, will you be there now? NO.

Matured,

Thats why I said in some other thread, that we don't identify with Nigeria.

We may be Nigerians, living in naija but deep inside, we don't identify with that country anymore.

It is also same reason why BANK PHB would give LOANS for Nigerians to have UK EDUCATION, so what about NIGERIAN EDUCATION?

grin cheesy grin
