Hi everyone, I got a conditional offer from Uni of Herts, paid the deposit on the 7th of October and I have been waiting for a full offer since then. Is it supposed to take that long? School starts in Jan! Please does anyone know what I can do. I have been calling the school and sending emails. Will I still be able to process a visa and get in before school starts? |

Good evening everyone. i have a question about the proof of funds for a study visa. Can I show investments in treasury bills or a money market fund as funds for fees? Or must this cash sit idle in a regular bank account for 4 to 6 months? |

Thank you very much bullstriker: 1.No, it will not affect the outcome of your study permit application if you have submitted a strong application. Lots of people go for a one-year program.
2.Both of them are good schools.
3.You can switch to a two-program when you get to Canada. Note that you could lose the tuition deposit paid for the initial program. If you intend to get a 3yr PGWP after your studies, you can study another one-year program after completing the first one and be eligible for the 3yrPGWP. The two programs have to be completed within two years. For example, if the first program ends in December 2023, you can start another one-year program in January 2024 or within 150 days after you have completed the first program.
4.No, you can’t. PGWP cannot be extended. Due to the impact of the pandemic on the Canadian job market, IRCC introduced a temporary public policy that allows PGWP holders to extend their work permits, but this public policy will not apply to you. If you intend to take another 1yr program after completing the first one, please don’t apply for PGWP after completing the first one; as mentioned above, you cannot apply for PGWP twice.
5.Yes, you can move to any school when you arrive. However, you must inform IRCC about it on your MYCIC account(old portal). Don’t move to the Atlantic provinces because of provincial nominee programs; most provinces have PNP that favour students and workers in their region. Moreover, if you are taking a 2yr program, you will have sufficient time to apply for PR. |

will be nice to get a response... Margs: Hello everyone,
i just two admission letters to Georgian College and St Lawrence College for Spring to study Project Management. But I have a few questions: 1. Both are one year courses. Will that affect plans for PPR 2. Is there a better school to choose from between them? Fees are close enough to be indifferent. 3. Can I switch to a two year course when I get to the schools - I am a bit worried about the short length of the courses for a subsequent work permit. But there is the issue of looking suspicious to a visa officer going to a college for two years in the middle of an 'okay' career 4. Can I apply for a new work permit in Canada after the first one expires 5. Finally, can i move to a different school in canada when I get there. i am considering moving to the atlantic region because of provincial nominations
Really sorry about the very many questions |

Wow! I can’t even believe that you took your time to respond to every single point I raised. Thank you very much! I will work on the applications myself and yes you are right about PM and Biz Analytics etc. being sellable on the basis you shared. I will go through all your posts and work on my applications myself. Thank you so so much! Really appreciate you taking the time out to respond. I wish you the very best as well JustMellow: Hello Margs,
The course choice depends on your primary study focus, between the two shortlisted learning areas, and how you wish to relate your story to the officer may be. From what I understand about Project Management & Analytics or Financial Analytics/Information & Business Insights, it stretches across diverse learning fields including the Wellness profession. In addendum, the study can be continued-learning from the teachings of the online MBA, like a buildup of academic work—online vs in-person study and curriculum scope. I believe this answered the question.
Also, it depends on how eagerly you want your son's company. However, I will recommend the study permit. You can always act to sponsor him through school and/or include him in your PR application when you intend to apply, among other ways. If the patience and/or time are available, he can leverage the EE route if he can score high as possible. But work experience and one degree may likely drop his CRS score.
The process is simplified and can be done yourself if you have the time—to handle the process as well as gather the knowledge through researching the IRCC website and this study thread. You can also decide to read through my posts, I believe it will also be insightful. If you can afford the service of an Immigration Lawyer, it is pretty much allowed. From what I know, applications made by immigration lawyers are not treated with special attention by IRCC and it is also not a guarantee that the application outcome would be positive. Sad enough, only a few immigration lawyers know their onions. I will recommend you handle it yourself. My opinion.
Success is all I wish You! |

Thank you so much for responding. Clearly I did not communicate properly. Let me be clearer: I have never applied to Canada and so i do not have any rejections. I was only saying I have started the process thrice (gathering info, writing ielts, applying and receiving admission) but I never got to the stage of applying. Emphasizing that I have been wasting time and now decided this is the last time. I have worked for almost 20 years in finance - mainly investment banking and I am now a VP. I have an MBA almost complete from the UK - online). Also ICAN and CFA L1 (L2 hopefully in September) i have a valid UK and US visa on my passports with some travel history I just started a business in the wellness industry this year I am a divorced mother of an 18 year old son. He is in Year 2 in University. I want to relocate to Canada alone and get my son to join me after he graduates. I am apply to colleges for courses in wellness (because of the new business) or Project Management and Analytics (I was just moved to the Fintech arm of my company and this is relevant now). I need advise on : 1) viability of my choice of courses 2) How to apply for my son 3) Should i use an immigration lawyer? Thank you JustMellow: Hello Margs,
The information provided is limited to getting adequate advice. The reasons for the consecutive refusals should have been stated and maybe upload your GCMS notes.
One essential thing to consider in your reapplication is ensuring your study is a progression of your last and/or your work experience correlates with your study intent. Give a clear purpose and good prospects for the study.
Age can be a factor to be considered by the officer if the demonstration of your intent in Canada is not reasonable. It would be better to consider a sole application without your son given the series of refusals already recorded.
If you think you can respond accordingly to the officer's concerns, as well as have the available budgets for the study, it is worth it to try again.
Success is all I wish You! |

Hello everyone, I have a few questions to ask. This is my third time trying to do Canada in 5 years. Somehow I have never been able to go through with it. But this really is it - no time to waste anymore.
Female. I am working on a student visa for myself. I am applying to become an esthetician and sent applications to a few colleges in Ontario. Background is in Finance - I have worked for over 15 years. First degree is in Physics and I have ICAN and a few certifications. Almost completed an MBA with a UK Uni (online - not sure I can complete with work and all). I started a skin care product line early this year after studying online for two years (plus a few months). Now have a business set up with about 9 products - CAC, NAFDAC, Trademarks etc. Plan to study to scale business to a spa line. School is for 2 years - business can run without me.
Questions: 1. Is this a viable entry point to Canada? I am female and over 45. 2. I have a son who is 18 plus and in Uni in Nigeria. Can I apply with him? I do not want to disrupt his school - uni in Abuja? How can I do this? Or do I have to apply with him coming to Canada with me? 3. Is it worth it trying this route - age and all.
thanks and look forward to some feedback and help. thank you |

Abeg make una answer me naaaa Margs: Hi everyone, been a bit silent here but been following the thread seriously.
I got admissions to RRU and UCW and I am a bit undecided as to which school to take. UCW seems to have bad reviews online but I am also considering locations and the lengths of study. UCW (University of Canada West): Vancouver, 24 months, small scholarship and so lower fees by about $8,000 CAD RRU (Royal Roads University): Victoria, 18 months |

So I guess I have to write the general as well. Arghhh!!! Abby2017: Congrats! You have been advised rightly; read up. Meanwhile, @ bolded, is this result IELTS general training or academics? |

mcobex: EE is cool and your reasons for not liking it isn't enough as via EE you can still study (this time not as an international student which will in turn save you lots of money from tuition), also the time too is more or less the same (that's if you look at some case where some people's trv application take about 6 months and above and still no news from cic). The ball is in your court though but to me I think you should stick to EE and you won't regret it This got me thinking....but I hear EE takes 18 months. At least with the degree will happen in September 2018 (binding and casting evil trv)! But I will explore EE again. |

Hi everyone.
Can someone please give a quick review on UCW? Someone recommended it to me here a few weeks ago and I have been speaking with the school. However, I stumbled on some really negative press on the school from about 5 years ago (2012/2013). Is anyone studying there? What is their reputation like? Can it get you a good job in Canada?
Secondly, colleges and PGD/certificates in Canada? Are they worth it?
Background: I have to take one of these routes cos I has a 3rd class in Uni. I have over 12 years experience but I really want a masters in Finance. Doesn't seem likely with these grades. I am not keen on the EE route for two reasons: timing and I really want to study. Even if settlement is part of the plan.
Apologies for the length of this. Can the gurus please help?
Thanks! |

CPA01: Hello. What's your cgpa for the last two years?. I will suggest you try some schools that offer pre MBA. But have you heard about express entry??. You can get to move and stay in Canada permanently without much stress. I have to check but it was about 3.0. The express entry requires some form of Canadian experience or high uni scores not so? Also, I really want a masters now its not just about the residency...which I want eventually o |

Jejelaye01: Hello mate. Good to know about your interest in studying in canada however your primary concern shouldnt be a thing of concern judging by your profile above. Since you have certifications in management and ICAN and good work experience in the finance sector I will advise you to choose a career in management in any school in your choice and when it's time for visa application please make sure you relate your certified courses with your admission very well.
Please accept as always my warm regards. Thanks for the response. I was worried about the 3rd class but will proceed as advised. |
