A 25-year-old man, John Nwosu, has been arrested for allegedly robbing members of the public armed with toy gun along Iba Bridge, in Ojo area of Lagos.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, confirmed the arrest to journalists yesterday.
He said that the suspect usually operates on the two-kilometre link bridge between 6pm and 10pm alone, using the gun to threaten his victims to hand over their belongings to him.
According to him, the suspect had been on police wanted list since two weeks, after some passengers on board a commercial bus heading towards Lagos State University (LASU), lodged complaints.
The police spokesman said that the activities of the suspect had become so notorious that those who ply the bridge are afraid to use the area in the evening and morning hours.
“The suspect was nabbed by surveillance team deployed to Aratumi/Ishasi on the LASU-Igando expressway,” he said.

A 21-year-old man, Efoghae Friday, has confessed to stealing an underwear belonging to a grand mother, Modupe Adekoya, who lives in a three-bedroom flat on 15, Olorunsogo Street, Basiri, Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital, and selling same for N2,000.
DAILY POST gathered that policemen attached to the Irewolede Police station apprehended Friday, Tuesday afternoon after a report was made by a relative of the old woman whose underwear was stolen.
The suspect and three others arrested in connection with the crime, were later transferred to the New Iyin police station on Bank Road, Ado Ekiti same day.
The suspect, according to police source, confessed to committing the crime by going to steal the undergarment belonging to the old woman, which were hung to dry under the sun.
Madam Adekoya, while explaining her ordeal to newsmen, said: ” I know Friday very well as he usually come to assist me in doing some domestic chores at home. To appreciate him, I use to give him meals but I never thought he could do this.
“I had washed my pants and put two of them out to dry at about 3am on June 10, at the corridor in my house. But when I went to remove it the next morning, I found out that one was missing, then I raised the alarm.
“After series of investigations, a relative who suspected Friday called him and they urged him to confess promising not to be angry with him. He did eventually confessed to stealing the underwear and that was when we invited the police to arrest him.
” When he was arrested, he took the police to the house of some three boys he claimed one of them had asked him to fetch the underwear and promised to give him N2,000,” she said.
The family of Madam Adekoya have since hired a lawyer, Layi Obisesan, to ensure that the matter is pursued to a logical conclusion.
They are also demanding that the police investigate the matter to the latter, charge Friday and others to court and also ensure that Madam Adekoya’s underwear is recovered.
Speaking on their behalf, Obisesan said: “We want the police to charge the case to court since Friday has made confessions that he stole the underwear. He even gave the colour of the underwear he stole which was identified as Madam Adekoya’s. He also gave the location from where he stole it. He said he was asked to bring the underwear by one Enyinma who lives around Irewolede area of Basiri in Ado Ekiti. “

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our fellow musician, sister and friend Nichume.

Nichume was found at a friend’s place last night following an apparent suicide.

She was an accomplished musician and a qualified ophthalmologist. Nichume reached the heights of her fame when she lent her voice to Mobi Dixon’s hit “Bhutiza”. She featured on singles "Daydreaming" by Fistaz Mixwell and Mobi Dixon, as well as “Far Away” by DJ Anda featuring Mobi Dixon.

Following the success of Bhutiza in 2017, she was then signed to Top Chap Media, founded by Mobi Dixon.

The duo had just released a single together titled ‘Thobela’ - which has been making appearances in the top 100 weekly radio charts.

"I'm distraught. I will remember Nichume as a bright light at Top Chap Media where we signed her. She was not only my first artist, but we had grown so close in the past three years that she became my little sister. She truly is gone too soon. May her soul rest in peace," Mobi Dixon paid tribute to her.

“We, as a family are in absolute shock as to what has happened. Learning that your sister has succumbed to emotions and taken her own life can never rest well. We obviously are left with a lot of questions but also know that she had one of the strongest characters in the family. Whatever she was feeling at that moment triggered immense hopelessness.
