no wander people think Nigeria is crime ridden country, people in here ready to commit crime in the name of God to leave Nigeria, believe i can understand the frustrations but least leave your criminals plans outside this forum |
I have worked with Sarbanes oxley at some implementation in 2004, most companies these days need to be Sox complaint |
Absolutely, imagine last year, i was in Beijing doing a hand over to our SAP 3rd line support team, in front of class of 15, many who never seen a black man before haha, was quite interesting, gave me a good feeling though must say, worked at diffrent companies where they value your input, sitting with project managers to work out costs of an SAP mini implementation ( we talking millions of pounds here) Its hard work though, eventhough i did not come through the certification route, i can certainly hold my own in the SAP world, the ERP industry is ever evolving, new processes are implemented by SAP to stay on top of the ERP game, there is so much to learn, can remember from the day of SAP version 3.1, 4.0, 4.6, 4.7, ECC5, now ECC6, MySAP ERP, SCM, HR,SRM,CRM, the world of SAP is so much to take in when i started, i went through modules FI CO SD MM bits of HR, SRM, i just wanted to find a module i was comfortable with, now i specialise in SD MM I have introduced a few of my friends to SAP and now it seems they have rewarding careers, quite suprised many Nigerians dont look into the SAP world but i guess to make in roads, you need years of dedication and what not |
may i add i take no personal offence if anyone does not agree with me, end of the day, we are here to share ideas and what worked for me might not necessarily work for you but it seems there is a general consensus that at entry level in to SAP, a certificate might be required unless you get lucky and your company decides to invest in you with regards to training and what not so far it has been an interesting career for me though, SAP has allowed to travel to places like China through work to perform some training, dont think i will swap my career for anything until the next better ERP system comes out |
Of course agree with your points as well, Certification is important, especially for entry level consultants, quite hard to break in these days without some certification of sorts I just gained my experience the old fashioned way, worked my way up, guess this does not apply to every consultant as the opportunities for SAP experience is far and between I equally know the likes of accenture and some other big consultancies insist on certification, i will possible take it one day, just dont have the time now, i have done so much in house training that gives me an ''on the job skill'' others will die for , even for certain implementations i have taken part in, sometimes it is required that you take a series of tests to show your suitability for the roles But like i said, with the ERP, seems SAP are heading into a new direction when other core skills will be needed rather than configuration skills amongst other things, surely you must have noticed this as well As you pointed out, still suprised some people have not chosen SAP as a career, i guess its a difficult career to break into but getting the certification is surely one proven method of getting a foot in |
To the last threads, if your background is more server based, network, then i think SAP basis will be a good headstart Training simulations for SAP online?? you will be lucky to get the odd old training materials, SAP materials cost a fortune, a good simulation module online will knock you back at least 1000-3000 pounds, if its an official SAP simulation guide, then you probably talking higher figures |
HI all well i have worked with SAP for 10 years, i am not certified yet, whiles certification is nice to get, it does not guarantee you a job these days, believe i know that much, prospective SAP employers will take experience over certification any day, back in the 90s, certification was the ''in-thing'' consultants earned an arm and a leg as someone pointed out, when the SAP market for consultants entered a difficult phase in the late 90s, early 2000s, rates went down, only the experienced with multiple implementations stayed on to top with regards to earnings I can remember when i became an independent contractor in 2004 ( having worked 5 years in an in-house SAP group) i did not have a lot of Config experience, that really affected my chances, then i got a luck break, i have been working in my 5th contract now and its been quite long ( over 2 years) in Sweden, I do a lot of Configuration but its not rocket science, whats important is you tailor your config skills towards your clients business process and apply it Thats clearly where SAP is heading to, business process expert, these days, most SAP packages come pre-configured, so basically not a great deal of config is required, only difference is if the client are implementing an in-house solution different from standard SAP Config skills are still essential but ERP is moving in a different direction, so far, i have been lucky in my SAP career, i have worked for the top players in all industries, it takes a lot of hard work and dedication as someone pointed out For entry level SAP consultants, the certification is probably essential as these days, its so hard to break into the SAP market, sort of a closed society, but once you get in, the rewards are very great I have worked with FI CO SD MM HR ( travel management ) a bit of SRM ( EBP) these days, my strong modules are SD MM but you always stand out from the rest if you understand the integration points between SD MM FI and CO and HR go check www.erpgenie.com thats one of the popular SAP websites out there |
most used modules in the oil industry are SAP for oil & gas, sort of tailored solution for that field, also telecoms industry use a lot of SDMM( sales and distribution, materials master) also FI and CO, all depends though, most i work with one of the top players in mobile communications, we use a lot of SD, not much MM, because we do not manufacture our phones |
Hi markos, I read your post and I think there's no harm in seeking a second opinion. I have working experience in the Telecommunications industry and have also worked with relational databases (Oracle and Sybase). I'm interested in pursuing a career in SAP. I would like to know if starting out with SAP Enterprise Portal and combining it with the SAP Supply Chain Management (SCM) solution would be a good start. What do you advise? Also would you be so kind as to provide me with any training materials you may have. Regards, sedeagu all depends on your background, have you got a business background?? its very good to choose a module in SAP and try and become an expert with it rather than trying your hands with portal and SCM, maybe both have similar attributes have a look at this website, you can get so much information including the right modules to choose from http://www.sapdb.info/ let me know if you have further questions |
any questions about SAP, pls feel free to ask, i have access to loads of training material online as well |
I have been working with SAP for 10 years, used all versions from 3.1 to ECC5 and 6, right now i work with SDMM for one of the top 3 mobile communications network in the world, any questions you need to ask, feel free, i have access to loads of training materials i have been contracting now since 2004, been quite difficult must say, but the rewards have been very immense to say the least, my job has taken me round Europe, China getting to where i am now has not bene easy, it takes serious dedication and hard work if you ask me, i have also used the FICO, SRM, bit of HR, travel management modules and have done a few implementations in the UK, there are several SAP courses in the Uk that dont cost that much, like time i checked, it was 2000 for 8 weekends wandering myself why many Nigerians dont look into this angle of employment, i know its hard to break in, in fact very hard, training courses by SAP are over 10-15K pounds well i have managed so far to get a few friends working with SAP but must point out, you need a business background to work with modules like FICO SDMM HR SRM |
China, well what can i say, been there with work for 3 weeks last year in Beijing, nice place but can never live there unless on business trips, like someone pointed out, there are far too many, seems some Nigerians will travel anywhere to get that ''overseas status'' |
ive been to China with work, was bored after a week, wanted to get out, fair enough a lot of good things are happening there, but damn can never live there |
Taken from China times Mr osuba- why did you perform woefully at the olympics, well as you know i am the Nigerian, African champion and record holder, i am also the world indoor 60M holder the Olympics is another ball game, we were starved of funds right up to the olympics, we did not get training grants, our corrupt officials took us to Libya to get used to the Chinese weather I mean, what country sends its top athelets to Libya who are not even competing at the olympics?? Mr osuba- At the olympics, we left Nigeria with 80 athelets and 120 officials, all sorts of Nigerian low lifes joining the olympic bandwagon posing as officials, i could have sworn that i saw our local butcher and fuckaniser parading as boxing and swimming coach respectively That culture of excessiveness has to be stopped, In Beijing the officials went AWOL as soon as they touched down, apparently some were seen at the popular red light district of salitun, others were at silk street and ya show market and pearl market buying all kinds of fake goods some other unnamed athelets shamelessly joined in the charade, most were so unfit, can you imagine, one of our male swimmers looked like he was in the shot put event, weighing over 15 stones, he will drown ke!!! apparently in the heats, the other swimmers had to stop him from drowning, this is supposed to be our national champion Mr osuba- Do you know we had a shooter as well, first he could not even handle the special air rifle, apparently he nearly shot the judges of the contest!!! Mr Osuba- Our boxers did not have any gloves as well, i heard one wanted to fight with his bare fists, can you believe that? Well you seem to be criticising the other athelets, you did not fare well in your event Mr Osuba-- well i prepared to the best of my ability but this year we had a killer squad from jamaica, Bolt and Powell I was training with them , can remember, one heat, we decided to run between ourselves, can you believe Bolt performed 9.72, after that i lost hope, i said to Asafa and usain, i am only competing for third o!!! In one heat, i was racing against Bolt, can you believe, he jogged after 20 metres, the rest of us were running so hard, he made a mockery of our efforts, he still led a gap of at least 40 metres, now tell me Nigerians, how on earth are you supposed to catch a man like that After the finals, we went out to celebrate with him, we exchanged emails, hotmail, facebook, he invited me to jamaica, i am even considering to ask him to be my new coach or change nationality to jamaican, its not like Nigerians will miss me ke!! On our way home, can you believe 50 officials, did not make the flight back to Nigeria, apparently they did not know the olympics was over that just sums up Nigeria for you!! Chinatimes@2008 |
was in Beijing couple weeks ago with work for 14 days, beijing is littered with high rise buildings, seems like capitalism has crept up so fast, the country only practices communism only in name, saw a few Nigerians in the ya show market, silk street buying all the fakes you can get on earth, got a few myself haha, Chinese are very enterprising, how they manage to replicate all the fakes is amazing also Beijing has a prostitution problem, during my stay at sheraton hotel , me and work colleagues were harrased by pimps and prostitutes, the hard rock cafe near by is even worse, all the ladies in there are prostitutes and this is not an understatement!! went in there and every girl was like, i like black men, yeah right!!! the nearby Salitun bar area is a no-go for decent people, its just littered with bars full of prostitutes funy enough i saw the Nigerian embassy, quite close to the hotel |

Hausa men in Nigeria are known to be one of the best Night guards in the country or is it mere fiction I can remember we had quite a few Hausa night guards, there was one we had in particular, All he did was come over for duty around 8 and start sleeping in his mat in the small hut we built as the security post My dad will wake up sometimes at 12 or 1 and he would be sleeping, even snoring, he had his bow and arrow next to him for protection one unfortunate night, our neighbourhood was visited by robbers, when he heard the usual shouts of ''OLE'' he suddenly got up and ran to our door asking us to let him in that there were robbers around My dad shouted from the window that his job was to protect the family from robbers and he should go use his bow and arrow to fight the robbers he just kept banging the door, my dad said he will let him if he can produce the 9 months salary he had been paying him because all he seem to do was sleep on duty, My dad even offered to pay for his funeral, i even shouted that if he fought the robbers, i will buy him a drink on my neck!! needless to say the Megida ran towards the fence and scaled our high wall like Javier sotomayor from cuba, damn never seen a man jump almost 10 feet, we never saw the man ever, we still have his bow and arrow as a souvenir anyone had any similar experience?? |
