6 years ago nigeria had a so called new "golden generation" of players, lead by coach yemi tella, the nigerian U-17 football team had just conquered the world, playing a brand of exciting and sleek football the team featured the likes of top scorer chrisantus macauley,the creative rabiu ibrahim labeled the new "jay jay okocha", the tireless king osanga, at defense the likes of kingsley udoh did a great job, the team also boasted of promising young talents like ganiyu oseni,ademola raphael,mathew edile,lukman haruna. But six years on non of them excluding lukman haruna has been able to flourish for either country or club side. Chrisantus macauley made a dream move to hamburg but failed to make any impact he was loaned out on several occasions to cut the story short he is now languishing in the spanish second division with UD las palmas. Rabiu ibrahim got snapped up by portugese giants sporting lisbon but failed to make any appearance for their first team since then he has been somewhat of a journey man with spells with PSV and celtic, making little or no appearance for either of the two, he is currently at kilmarnock fc of scotland still yet to find his feet. These are just to mention a few of the stagnant careers of the world cup winning team,non of them has been able to make it to the super eagles. The question is why the lack of progress of members of that particular team, could it be because most of them rushed to top european clubs without taking their carriers one step at a time or could it be because of the controversial issue of age cheating, maybe they where all in their prime as at 2007 and have gone past that phase now..the issue remains a mystery. But we were all thrilled by the promise and excitement they showed in 2007 and can only mourn now and think of what they could have become.

American R&B star Brandy Norwood got a gig as a guest performer for the Mandela Sports and Culture Day at the FNB Stadium in South Africa last Saturday…but it wasn’t a performance to remember. The venue which holds 90,000 people was filled through out the day but the 34 year Boy is Mine singer met an almost empty stadium as soon as she was scheduled to perform.

Eccentric singer and friend of MsYouTV, Goldie Harvey tragically passed away in Lagos last night.
Her record label, Kennis Music has issued an official press statement on the tragic passing of Susan “Goldie” Harvey.

“With a deep sense of loss, we announce the shocking death of our darling music star, Goldie Harvey. Goldie, 31, died on Thursday after she complained of a severe headache shortly after her arrival from the United States where she went to witness the Grammy Award. She was rushed from her Park View, Ikoyi, Lagos residence to her official hospital, Reddington, Victoria Island, Lagos, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival at exactly 7:30pm in the evening. We consider this period a gloomy moment forus and the entire Nigerian music industry in view of the circumstance in which she passedaway; the abundance of talent she exhibited in her short but eventful music career and the various opportunities her trip to the United States of America would have availed her.

She is survived by her father, step- mother, brothers and sisters. We deeply sympathise with her family and fans all over the world and very grateful to all and sundry, especially, the vibrant Nigerian media for their concern and prompt reportage. We shallkeep everybody informed as events unfold aswe are devastated by the sudden loss.” Meanwhile, the remains of Goldie who hails from Ekiti State has been deposited at the mortuary of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos.

Goldie represented Nigeria at the Big Brother Star Game in 2012.Her latest effort, she described as three nawtisingles from her forthcoming African Invasionalbum are “Skibo”. “Miliki” and ” Got To HaveIt,” presently enjoying heavy rotations on radio and TV stations across the continent.

Fabrice Muamba admits he is still 'far away' from returning to the pitch but remains hopeful he will be able to resume his career with Bolton.

The midfielder was at the town's Victoria Hall this morning to receive an honorary doctorate from the University of Bolton at their graduation ceremony.

Muamba was presented with the award to honour both him and the doctors who saved his life when he collapsed with a cardiac arrest during an FA Cup tie against Tottenham in March.

Muamba was rushed to the London Chest Hospital and doctors took 78 minutes to restart his heart, with his eventual recovery described as a miracle.

Speaking at the ceremony, Muamba said: 'I'm getting stronger every day. I'm far away from being back on the football pitch.

'I really, really hope, by the grace of God, that I'll be back on the pitch but I'm just grateful to the university for this doctorate and I receive it on behalf of everybody who helped me to survive the cardiac arrest.'

Muamba and his family fled war in the Democratic Republic of Congo, seeking asylum in the UK.

Despite arriving in London aged 11 unable to speak English, he went on to achieve 10 GCSEs and three A levels and joined Arsenal FC's youth academy in 2002 before moving to Birmingham and then Bolton in 2008.

The England international, who denied the charge, was alleged to have made the comments during a Premier League game at Loftus Road last October.

Delivering the verdict Chief Magistrate Howard Riddle said: “The issue for the court is not to decide whether Mr Terry is a racist - I have received unchallenged evidence he is not.

“The issue is whether Mr Terry uttered the words as an insult.“

However, the judge then went on to add that: “The only verdict the court can record is Not Guilty.

“Even with all the help received, it is impossible to be sure exactly what were the words spoken by John Terry at the relevant time

“It is a crucial fact that nobody has given evidence about what Mr Terry said or how he said it.”

The Chief Magistrate went on to describe Ferdinand as “brave” to give evidence and added that:  “Overall I found Anton Ferdinand to be a believable witness on the central issue.”

After the verdict was announced the Crown Prosecution Service stated: "The very serious allegation at the heart of this case was one of racial abuse. It was our view that this was not 'banter' on the football pitch and that the allegation should be judged by a court.

"The Chief Magistrate agreed that Mr Terry had a case to answer, but having heard all of the evidence he acquitted Mr Terry of a racially aggravated offence. That is justice being done and we respect the Chief Magistrate’s decision."

Terry, who was stripped of the England captaincy over the affair, left court without a word for the assembled media but Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck added: "Chelsea football club notes that of course we respect the  decision of the magistrate today.

"We are pleased that John can now put his mind to football and go back to training and do what he has done for many years.

The Chief Magistrate went on to describe Ferdinand as “brave” to give evidence and added that:  “Overall I found Anton Ferdinand to be a believable witness on the central issue.”

After the verdict was announced the Crown Prosecution Service stated: "The very serious allegation at the heart of this case was one of racial abuse. It was our view that this was not 'banter' on the football pitch and that the allegation should be judged by a court.

"The Chief Magistrate agreed that Mr Terry had a case to answer, but having heard all of the evidence he acquitted Mr Terry of a racially aggravated offence. That is justice being done and we respect the Chief Magistrate’s decision."

Terry, who was stripped of the England captaincy over the affair, left court without a word for the assembled media but Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck added: "Chelsea football club notes that of course we respect the  decision of the magistrate today.

"We are pleased that John can now put his mind to football and go back to training and do what he has done for many years.
