BTW Ideye Brown scored two more yesterday. Will get back on that ASAP. |
Maybe not Obiefule, but why not Anthony Ujah, Derrick Ogbu, Simon Zenke or the resurgent Joseph Akpala. That said I don't think Nigeria's issues are with strikers, the problem is midfield and defence. |

4/11/2011 (Friday) Very good Friday. Watched VVV-Venlo yesterday, although none of the Nigerians scored. I can't really understand the team tactics. Whenever Ahmed Musa (playing on the right wing) had the ball he looked like a goal threat, but the team constantly played the ball down the left flank and Musa hardly saw the ball, German Bundesliga 1st Div. FSV Mainz 05 - VfB Stuttgart 3:1 52' Anthony Ujah (FSV Mainz 05) (1:1) 63' Anthony Ujah (FSV Mainz 05) (1:1) Ujah opens his account for FSV Mainz 05 with two goals (almost had a hattrick) and be named MOTM (this was his second official start). Honestly from what I've seen I think Ujah is Nigeria's best striker in Europe and I am shocked that he has yet to be called up. Thankfully his perfomance means he will probably become a first team player in the Bundesliga. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SEeodwCpZc Turkey SPOR TOTO SUPER LİG Samsunspor - MKE Ankaragücü 2:2 2' Simon Zenke (Samsunspor) (1:0) Simon Zenke is scoring goals, but Ekigho Ehiosun gets called up, nonsense, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8e0qv1vOaI Turkey SPOR TOTO SUPER LİG Sivasspor - Fenerbahce 2:0 37' Michael Eneramo (Sivasspor) (1:0) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMlohzUE3DU (goal at 1:25) Malta Premier League Balzan Youths - Valletta FC 0:2 85' Alfred Effiong (Valletta FC) (0:2) Australia League A Wellington Phoenix - Central Coast Mariners FC 1:2 48' Bernie Ibini-Isei (Central Coast Mariners FC) (0:1) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePdxGFwFVbA (goal at 0:50) |

They have. Clubs from all over the place have started scouting him once he scored 4 goals in 3 games in the Champions League (BTW you are aware the guy is currently leading the goalscoring ranking in the Champions League?). Funny thing is that he has been playing at this level for at least three years and until now none of those top clubs noticed how good the guy is. He's scored 99 goals in 133 games and 1/4 of those he played as a subistitute. If you ask me its a bit of football racism. If he were Brasilian, Argentinian or European the whole of Europe would have been talking about how great the guy is and making him to be the next Pele, Maradona, Cryuff or whatever. He's been scoring 0,76 goals per game in Russia, which is the no 7 league in Europe. Meanwhile ie. Luiz Suarez had an inferior goalscoring record in Holland (which is ranked below the Russian league) and he was already hyped up to be a world class striker. |
Damn! I just finished watching CSKA's match against Spartak Krasnodar. Seydou Doumbia scored three brilliant Cristiano Ronaldo level goals. Has speed, power, the first touch, heading, finishing, intelligence, superb movement, everything. He's been league top scorer for three years running (once doing that despite starting only less than a third of the games). Today he just brought his tally to 22 goals for the season for CSKA. In the last 6 games he has scored 11 goals, including no penalties (8 of those in the last three games). And almost all of them were top-notch. In my opinion the best African striker at the moment. And I can honestly say he looks good enough to be the best striker in the world and have Messi or Ronaldo type stats. |
27/10/2011 (Thursday) Turkish SPOR TOTO SUPER LİG Sivasspor - Mersin İdmanyurdu SK 1:0 21' Michael Eneramo (Sivasspor) (1:0) Had a pretty bad miss at the start of the game, but scored to make up for it. Also had a three penalty claims turned down - 2 were 100% calls (the third a dive) - funny, but if it had flopped earlier in the first one he probably would have gotten the call. (BTW When they finally got a penalty Grosicki missed it and then missed the retake) Worth to watch the whole highlights as Eneramo seems to have been very active throughout. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ej0IJnsRuA4 (goal at 0:30) Egyptian League Al Gounah - Misr Elmaqasah 1:1 49' Minusu Buba (Al Gounah) (1:0) |

Ghana not consistent? WTF! They have been the most consistent African team for years! Consistently good team. They never have an off day when playing a tournament! Didn't you just miss the 2010 WC or the fact that they have 16 points out of 18 in qualifying? You are all forgetting Morocco who has been very strong. I doubt anyone else has a chance, although Mali has an exciting new frontline with Maiga and Diabat |
Just an intro to 2013, as 2012 is a goner for us. The qualifying system isn't the best, but apparently it's the best they could come up with given that there is only one year in between AFCONs and there are also World Cup qualifiers to be played. Nigeria will play a total of 4 games with two teams. In the first leg teams will be drawn against each other from two pools in accordance with FIFA rating. That means Nigeria will probably meet a team like Seychelles or Mauritius. At worst it will be something like Chad or Burundi. But then comes the second leg. Winners of the first leg will go head to head with teams that qualified fr 2012. The draw will be random, so its very possibly to have a draw like: Cote d'Ivoire vs Nigeria, Senegal vs Egypt and Ghana vs Cameroon. Naturally it can also be Nigeria vs Niger, Libya vs Egypt, Sudan vs Cameroon, but still I see a lot of giant killings in 2013 qualification. Expect an even wackier group of teams at the 2013 Cup of Nations! |

To be honest he had no way of knowing it would be enough. That said if all the FA should have done their job (or hired a mathematicain to do the calculations) and they would have known that with 7 pts and a +4 GD they had a ENORMOUS chance of progressing. Especially with Ghana winning in the other game and most results being very beneficial to Nigeria's cause - in the 80th minute someone should have known that no other team could have more than 8 points and almost no team had a chance to have a superior GD. Barring an enormous 4:0 or 5:0 win by an African minnow in another Group Nigeria had a 95% chance of going through with that win. Almost as big a mistake as South Africa, who was actually celebrating for 15 minutes until they found out they had the math all wrong. |
