SportsRe: AFCON Qualifier: Nigeria Vs Guinea Conakry (2 - 2) On 8th October 2011 by marutimon: 11:34pm On Oct 08, 2011
Its almost official: Were it not for that late minute eqaulizer Nigeria would have qualified as a second placed team. Honestly, Guinea didn't even need the draw to progress! Even with the lost they would have won the group!

So far the pots are as follows:

POT I:
Equitoreal Guinea, Gabon, Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire

POT II:
Burkina Faso (TBC - awaiting CAF ruling), Senegal, Morocco (TBC), Tunisia

POT III:
Libya, Mali, Guinea, Zambia

POT IV:
Angola, Niger, Botswana, Sudan (TBC)

Looks like Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire should be strong favourites to win. With Egypt, Nigeria, Cameroon and South Africa out, Senegal and Morocco are the only real competition. Zambia and Mali could be a dark horse, but I can't see them beating either Cote d'Ivoire or Ghana. If Burkina Faso and Morocco don't qualify than this is this easiest CAN ever to win,

Worst thing is that had Nigeria not lost that injury time goal they would have gone through as second best team,

Siasia should have not risked the win by taking of Joel Obi.

For those interested: Uganda tie Sudan as the second placed team. If this stays the same than they will be playing to get the second spot.

Now it is official we are out. Sudan and Libya will take the best loser spot. Libya-- 12 points; Sudan-- 13points+
No. Libya is through. Sudan still has to wait for results in other matches. At the moment Uganda is tied with Sudan (unless goals are scored) and there would be a rematch.

Akainzo:
Libya and Sudan figures are wrong!  To normalise things, CAF would remove the points for the last p,aced team, that way ALL teams would be judged against 3 teams. You therefore have to normalise Libya and Sudan's figures.
Nope. They are right. Libya has 8 points, while Sudan has 7 points and a +1 GD.
SportsRe: AFCON Qualifier: Nigeria Vs Guinea Conakry (2 - 2) On 8th October 2011 by marutimon: 4:19pm On Oct 08, 2011
Interesting but Uganda and Sudan have the same nr of points, same GD, same nr of goal scored. Could be a rematch for them to qualify for 2012.

AFRICASON: Libya has qualified as second best team, Sudan still has to wait.
SportsRe: AFCON Qualifier: Nigeria Vs Guinea Conakry (2 - 2) On 8th October 2011 by marutimon: 4:15pm On Oct 08, 2011
Nigeria are out. Libya and Sudan are already above Nigeria in the hunt for the two qualifying spots, so Nigeria is not going to Gabon and Equitoreal Guinea.

Guy, you are behind time. b4 this match, Guinea had 13 points, while Nigeria had 10. Pls check your record
The points won with the last team in the table don't count. If the score remains the same Nigeria has 2 wins, 1 loss and a draw against Guinea and Ethiopia = 7 points and GD +4
SportsRe: AFCON Qualifier: Nigeria Vs Guinea Conakry (2 - 2) On 8th October 2011 by marutimon: 3:56pm On Oct 08, 2011
Libya draw with Zambia to finish second in group. Since no other team is capable of finishing with 8pts Libya qualify as the best 2nd placed team.

ONLY ONE SPACE UP FOR GRABS!
SportsRe: AFCON Qualifier: Nigeria Vs Guinea Conakry (2 - 2) On 8th October 2011 by marutimon: 3:52pm On Oct 08, 2011

SportsRe: AFCON Qualifier: Nigeria Vs Guinea Conakry (2 - 2) On 8th October 2011 by marutimon: 3:48pm On Oct 08, 2011
If the score remains the same Nigeria has 7 points and a +4 GD. They could still qualify from second place. They are still in for now (Libya has 8 pts, Nigeria is 2nd with 7 points and the best GD).

And honestly it looks like no other country is likely to beat that GD and point total.

Good thing is that Guinea is fully aware that even if they lose they are almost 100% sure to qualify as a second best team (unless Madagascar beat Ethiopia in Addis Abeba). That should ease the pressure on Nigeria should they go ahead.

Classic hattrick + he scored with his left foot, right foot and his head. The first goal is nice, the other two are predatory goals. I believe this is Chrisantus's first career hattrick and hopefully its a sign that he is finally fulfilling his promise. That puts his tally up to 5 goals for the season.

The FIFA formula actualluy gives African teams less points for wins. If i.e. Germany beats England in a friendly, than Germany gets more points than Nigeria would. That's how messed up these rankings are.
