Lol, The vuvuzela may die, but it will resurrect in the very next game :-D Just hope RSA will have a team to cheer for in the later stages and won't become disinterested with the cup. |
South Africa is only out FOR SURE after the France game. Before that it's just speculation. If Mexico and France draw today than South Africa's chances of progressing are very much alive (given they play much better than yesterday). |
RuuDie: I have yet to see anyone on this forum who disputes Uruguay deserving the win. Refereeing aside the Uruguayans deserved 3 points and got three points. Still - 1:0 is not 2:0 or 3:0 and that 3:0 may be key to South Africa's chances to progress from the group. |
what do you not understand in 'highly unlikely yes, impossible no'? Yes. I believe South Africa can win with France, just like Switzerland could win over Spain. I don't expect it to happen, but it isn't unfathomable. Spain was clearly the better side, but just couldn't score. Similarly France might have an off day and South Africa may play the game of their life. |
Don't jump the boat with RSA not advancing. Yes, it is unlikely, but if France and Mexico draw today it is reasonably possible. All (sic!) RSA would then have to do is win with France. If Mexico or France win than we can say it's a done deal, as South Africa would not only have to win, but win with a superior goal margin. |
highly unlikely yes, impossible no. besides if today's match france vs mexico doesn't end in a draw than South africa not only have to win, but they have to win by a superior margin. |
And no, it's not OFF-SIDE if the ball touches you behind the last defender - as long as you don't move behind the defence line BEFORE THE PASSNo.Totally wrong. Pass by Forlan = Suarez starts run, onside Cavani redirects ball = Suarez is offside Cavani touch changed the direction of the ball and counts as a new pass. Hence OFFSIDE. BTW: Today's ref for Nigeria is the guy that didn't give Eboue a penalty 4 years ago against Holland. |
MikeAnsy - the first pic shows nothing, Moment of touch - offside offside offside I do however (after some thought) take back the PK. It wasn't a clear penalty and I don't think every ref would have given it and Suarez is a dirty diver, but the PK call was fine. I still wouldn't call it, but, well,
|
I'm sorry, why the hell do you need lines when you have the above pictures, it's clear as daylight. Again - Cavani a split second before he touches the ball. Suarez is not even close to being onside - Suarez is on border of the lighter green grass, while Mokoena is several feet in front of that border:
|
Again: http://www.d1g.com/video/space/sports/show/?id=3793190 If you stop it well enough you'll get a screenshot where Cavani has yet to touch the ball and Suarez is already offside. And here is the proof: Suarez is already OFFSIDE before Cavani even touches the ball (see PIC no 1). Suarez is even more OFFSIDE just before Cavani passes the ball (see PIC no 2 - Cavani has yet to touch the ball in this shot). Sorry. It's right in front of your face and there is no denying it.
|
Sage: See the clip I put up above. Suarez is clearly OFFSIDE when Cavani touches the ball. You have to be blind to claim otherwise after seeing the clip. |
I'll even let you guys off on the dive no dive penalty no penalty. But it was an obvious offside when Cavani redirected the ball to Suarez. Forlan's pass was not going to go through. Stop this clip at 26 sec. at the moment of Cavani's touch and the offside is obvious for anyone who is not blind. The lines show Suarez BEHIND Mokoena. |
1. Suarez was OFFSIDE. You can go take a look at it again. The ball was redirected by a second Uruguayan player in the path of Suarez. Suarez was offside at that moment. 2. Khune DID NOT deny the last man a clear goal scoring opportunity. There was nothing in Khune's play that hindered Suarez's chance. He only touched Suarez when the Uruguayan was already diving and the contact was so minimal. If every touch was a PK than there would be 50 penalties awarded each game. If the ref had video replay I doubt he would have given the call. |
First of all Suarez was offside, so nothing that Khune did mattered. Second of all Suarez dived and Khune was just unlucky to touch the falling player who was looking for it. Yes. Uruguay deserved the win. Yes. Khune made it easy for Suarez. But no - that should never be a penalty. Khune did not cause Suarez to fall over and did nothing to inhibit Suarez's chances to score. As to Busacca: I suggest a blast to the past and watching the Ukraine - Spain game of 2006 (identical non-penalty and red card). He also never gave SA any of the 50/50 calls. I.e. the call for high foot, where both players were going for the ball. The SA player kicked the ball and not the Uruguayian and yet it was a freekick in a dangerous position. |
well, with the three goals against RSA have to hope for a France-Mexico draw in the next match. Only that result maximises South Africa's chances in the last game, |
a) It was offside. b) The opposing player was diving. c) The GK barely touched Suarez and did nothing that would cause him to fall over. |
the contact was so minimal, that it could not be a foul. |
how the hell was that a penalty? khune hardly touched Suarez and Suarez was diving even before Khune went in. |
sa haven't been deserving. that doesn't explain busacca's poor reffing. |
this must be the first group match in world cup history where the ref is whistling against the host nation. disgraceful refereeing by Busacca. i guess football rascism is just too strong an urge. |
I see Portugal struggling to win their game against Korea. Additionally Brasil only wins 2:1, which means they won't have a good goal difference from this match. And that might cost them later on. (i.e. second place and a Brasil vs Spain matchup?) |
Korea score Brasil very easily broken up ![]() |
Abdulkader Keita did more with the ball in the 10 minutes he played than Dindane did in 90 minutes, Dindane should not start the next match. I think Cote d'Ivoire can at least draw with Brasil and with 2 points they fate is in their own hand in the last game. |
Its a draw or maybe a win! |
CR is so weak even a touch on the back makes him fall over ![]() |
Drogba to come on! Keita in for Dindane and I'm happy! |
On Gervinho's cross: Why didn't the Cote d'Ivoire run to meet the cross? If that was Drogba it would be a goal. |
I hope Abdulkader Keita changes Arouna Dindane. He is a much better winger. |
On Eurosport - lol: "Typical Ronaldo. A few dives and shoot from 35+ yards and hit the woodwork, and then start crying about it. |
Cote d'Ivoire sloppy? What about Portugal? |
CRonaldo's diving skills are World Class. Even the Italians are envious. The ref didn't see a clear yellow card foul on Eboue. |
