sylvalord: u are a dweeb... U wondering hw i got admission?.. Well i got it by studying and praying.. Not by being a douchebag like u..Did you apply for medical laboratory science yourself? The question you asked and the information you've given so far exposed you as someone who makes a critical decision without being properly informed. That's not a good thing. At the point you made your initial post, your ignorance was inexcusable simply because you should have done some research about the course and asked questions BEFORE applying for it. YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU SIGNED UP FOR. Its very unfortunate you go about insulting people who know better than you. I have told you to familiarise yourself with your books and stop coming online to post rubbish! you go soon get wetin you dey find |
cowleg: Guys please dont mind the naivety of the poster.....am a scientist too but waiting for my graduation and subsequent induction as an associate....please my fellow colleague here, what are common questions asked during internship exam? Its as if you were banned? Lol |
dvdon: Me too. you are not serious at all! |
I thought I was the only one |
mydentist: will be around on Wednesday and Friday of this week, scaling and polishing is just 7k in my clinicJust 7k?! |
Ghyft: i think biology nd plant science are on opposite sides of an issue.....it would avee bin preferable oif i had biology...bt dis biotech, hell noPls let's avoid any misconception here. Biotechnology is actually a great course to study but not in nigeria. Biology, biotechnology, botany, biochemistry, microbiology are just different branches of the same tree. They all overlap in many areas; so in essence, to reject one is to reject all! & to accept one is to accept all! if your parents have the money to send you abroad, pls study biotechnology but as long as you are here in nigeria and nigeria still remains the way it is, pls look for something else to study. Don't get it twisted! ![]() |
Ghyft: and if i get a GPA of above 4.0,will switching b dat easy its uniben we're talking abt here.....and d issue of loosing a year, afta 1st year in PBB,i'll still end up in medicine 100L u mean? You'll loose a year and start again from 100l medicine & surgery. This is mainly because you are switching from one faculty to another and there are some remedial courses you might have to go for. The truth is that it is not easy, but its worth the try considering the precarious situation you find yourself in .Start making enquiries about the change of department/faculty process in uniben, people might try to discourage you but pls forge ahead irrespective of what you hear. |
Ghyft: i went through it...bt talkng abt switching to medicine, how possible is dat?I modified the post you quoted go back & read it again |
ossybluez: My dear as a biotechnologist u have so many areas u can fit in....... breweries, food industries, research institutes, just to mention but a few. Am proud to be one and am not regretting it.*yimu* but seriously if you are proud to be a biotechnologist, can you pls tell us where you are gainfully employed at the moment with your degree in biotechnology? |
Ghyft: d issue here is,hw many of dese brewies do we ave in Nigeria dat are ready to emloy fresh graduatesHope you went through the link I posted? Make sure you get a GPA above 4.0 so that you can switch back to medicine. Avoid unnecessary distractions and focus on your books. You'll loose a year but its worth it. Biotechnology is a no no |
Ghyft: I've just been admitted to studyu plant scince and biotechnology in Uniben, pls who knws anytin abt pple who graduate from dis field?Better switch to medicine if you know what is good for you! |
mydentist: I need to know your location, state so i can give u d right quotation, just call on 08179734105. Or mail info@mydentist.com.ngWhen will you be around so that I can come. By the way, how much is the scaling & polishing in your clinic? |
Nigerian institute for food science & technology offers training in quality control for analysts in the food & beverage industry. They are domiciled at F.I.I.R.O ie the federal institute for industrial research oshodi. Another body that trains & certifies individuals for this kind of stuff is the institute of public analysts of nigeria (ipan) check their website www.ipan.gov.ng and familiarise yourself with what they are all about. Choose the one that suits you depending on the kind of career you want for yourself but I strongly recommend ipan because it seems their certification is backed by law. |
I would not have responded if you had stopped at reinforcing your argument that botanist can work anywhere - it's good to console one's self atimes. But I decided to respond because you chose the common and lazy excuse of knowing people before getting jobs as the challenge botany graduates are facing. Like I said, it's better to be realistic with one's expectation and work hard to overcome expected challenges, than live in delusion and make lame excuses thereafter. To put it in clear times, the reason why you won't see botanists in oil coys, manufacturing firms, hospitals, refineries etc is because they are not needed. How come it is the engineers, doctors, industrial chemists, accountants, pharmacists, etc that always have the ''connection'' to get the jobs? Like I said, I ain't trying to discourage any botanist. Neither am I trying to say they can't work in any particular organization. I'm just saying it's better to know your limitations (as a graduate of botany or any other course) and develop yourself such that you can overcome those limitations. I rest my case.
May God bless you my brother! |

Emzybrown: PLEASE BOSS EXPLAIN TO ME THE LINK IS NOT OPENING ON MY DEVICEOne of the many questions we get about microbiology programme in Nigeria is always which one to choose between Masters in Pharmaceutical Microbiology vs. Industrial Microbiology in Nigeria. Just like in some of our previous articles, choosing the best programme to study or where to specialize in your chosen profession can be challenging and a single mistake can ruin your future career. Getting it right involves a lot but there are many options you have to put into consideration before making your final decision. I will basically focus most of the information around Nigerian universities and working environment. I know it is a well-known fact that most graduates of microbiology do not end up practicing or working within the field or related fields. Remember, by using versus on the topic of this post does not make any of the programs less good. Every program in university has a purpose and the knowledge is required somewhere else. Though some programs might have better employment opportunities than others but still every university program has its own importance. Now let go back to MSc. Specialization in Microbiology. As a first degree holder in microbiology, the question of where to specialize in further studies is vast – Medical Microbiology, Industrial Microbiology, Environmental Microbiology, Plant Pathology, Mycology, Pharmaceutical Microbiology and Medical Parasitology. We will consider Industrial Microbiology and Pharmaceutical Microbiology here . So what is Pharmaceutical Microbiology? Pharmaceutical microbiology is the part of industrial microbiology that is responsible for ensuring medications does not contain harmful levels of microbes- such as bacteria, yeasts and molds. Another major focus of pharmaceutical microbiology is to determine how a product will react in cases of contamination1. Pharmaceutical Microbiologist in Nigeria can work in clinical laboratories, food industry, pharmaceutical industry, and the health care organization such as NAFDAC and Standard Organization of Nigeria. So what is Industrial Microbiology? Industrial microbiology or microbial biotechnology encompasses the use of microorganisms in the manufacture of food or industrial products. The use of microorganisms for the production of food, either human or animal, is often considered a branch of food microbiology. The microorganisms used in industrial processes may be natural isolates; laboratory selected mutants or genetically engineered organisms2. Areas of industrial microbiology include quality assurance for the food, pharmaceutical, and chemical industries. Industrial microbiologists may also be responsible for air and plant contamination, health of animals used in testing products, and discovery of new organisms and pathways3. Since pharmaceutical Microbiology is regarded as part of industrial Microbiology, it means that industrial Microbiology has a bigger scoop of application and will definitely has more employment opportunities in Nigeria. If you are keen to work in pharmaceutical companies, pharmaceutical microbiology will be the best option but for a broader industrials, industrial microbiology might be the best for you. |
@op can you give an me an example of a product ie the name of any dental plaque removal mouthwash I can buy here in nigeria? Also can you recommend any clinic where I can go to for the polishing at an affordable price? |
@op I am a microbiologist and I can categorically tell you that once the microflora of the va.gin.a is destroyed it can never be restored using yogurt therapy. Although I agree that the same bacterium (lactobacillus) present in yogurt is also the predominant bacterium in the va.gin.a being part of the normal flora of that region. This bacterium is important because it successfully competes against other disease causing microbes by the production of lactic acid which inhibits the growth of the pathogens. Women have to be careful when undergoing antibiotic therapy because this can permanently alter the growth & population dynamics of microbes in the va.gin.a to the detriment of the woman in question. Anything that causes a drop in population of lactobacillus will render that lady susceptible to constant va.gin.al infections. YOGURT therapy CANNOT rejuvenate the microflora of the va.gin.a. It does not really work. Please non of y'all should waste your money on this stuff. |
Emzybrown: i need some exposition about what you meanwww.toscanyacademy.com/blog/education/masters-in-pharmaceutical-microbiology-vs-industrial-microbiology-in-nigeria ![]() |
Good people of Nigeria!!! Can a BSc. in Biologica Science (Edu) with third class upper (3.76) qualify to apply for MSc in Medical Laboratory Science? plase, I need your help. Thanks.
Lol! MSc in med lab science bwahahahahaha! there is no MSc in med lab science. Its either you do a msc in medical microbiology & parasitology/immunology, medical biochemistry (chemical pathology) or haematology You read biological science, it will not be possible for you to work as a medical lab scientist in nigeria because MLSCN (medical laboratory science council of nigeria) has suspended, indefinitely, the certification/training programme for individuals that did not actually study med lab science as undergraduates but studied related courses like microbiology, zoology, biochemistry, biological science etc. Without this programme it will be impossible for biologists like you to be licensed for clinical laboratory practice. Licence to practice is the main issue. If you really wanna be a medical lab scientist, it will be better you go back to school and enrol through direct entry, for medical laboratory science. I heard a rumour that the suspension of licensing for biology graduates might be reviewed once a new board is constituted for the council. just keep your fingers crossed but as for now its either you go back to school or you forget it completely afterall there are numerous things that a biologist can do, its not by force that you must do medical. |
b3llo: What is the difference between a pharmaceutical biochemist and a pharmacist? And please what are the possible Job opportunity for a Pharmaceutical Biochemist. Please guys I need your comments, thank you.I would personally recommend pharmaceutical microbiology you would be blown away by what the industry has to offer individuals in that field |
