Every time new players are integrated, it takes time to blood them. We saw that with Rasheedat, Payne and even Nnadozie. We need to exercise patience and let the process take its course. The right players have been identified to make the team better - we just need to blood and integrate them into the SE.

The two coaches appointed Tuesday by the Nigeria Football Federation to assist Super Falcons Head coach, Randy Waldrum, are of the view that the team need to be overhauled for improved performance,
The coaches, Justine Madugu and Edwin Okon, told Completesports.com in separate chats Tuesday soon after their meeting with the President of NFF, Amaju Piñnick and other chieftains of the federation, that their assignment include scouting and training young, quality players, home and abroad, for the Super Falcons

Okon, a former coach of Super Falcons who is now the Chief Scout, is saddled with the responsibility of scouting for players from the domestic league and the leagues abroad. He insists that the team must be overhauled for Nigeria to maintain her dominance of the women’s football in the continent

“I am optimistic that the Super Falcons will still dominate women’s football in Africa for long if we overhaul the current squad with the introduction of young and very good players in and outside Nigeria. We need to beef up the team to maintain our position as the best team in Africa,” Okon who is the coach of Nigeria Women’s Football League champions, Rivers Angels, stated
We have to go to work immediately to help fish out players who take over from the ageing and out of form players in the Super Falcons. We cannot afford to miss qualifying for the World Cup in 2023, so we would recommend the players that will help the coach in moving forward.”

On his part, Justine Madugu is now the First Assistant Coach, agreed that the Super Falcons needs strengthening up with the gradual injection of younger and hungrier players, adding that the team still has the quality to conquer Africa again

“The process of rebuilding a team has to be a gradual process. We cannot just throw away the ageing players, we need some of them around to help the young one develop. We shall allow them to compete with the older players for places in the team. We have to ease them off gradually,” Madugu stated.

He added: “We know these players and we know their capacity and mentality and we know our strength. It is those strengths that we work on so that we can get the best out of the players.

“When European coaches arrive Africa, it always takes them a while to settle down and understand the players and the time is not there. That is why they need coaches who know these players to guide them,” Madugu stressed.

Morocco 2022: Super Falcons commence camping for Ghana in Lagos on Sunday

Nine-time African champions, Super Falcons will intensify preparations for their 2022 Women AFCON qualifying fixture against the Black Queens of Ghana when they arrive camp in Lagos on Sunday.

Nigeria and Ghana clashed in the Final match of the inaugural edition of Women Africa Cup of Nations in 1998, which the Falcons won 2-0. However, both strong stallions in the African women football race-course have been drawn to play each other for one slot at the next edition to be held in the summer of 2022 in the Kingdom of Morocco.

As part of their preparations for this potentially –explosive qualifying fixture, the Super Falcons featured in the USWNT Summer Series in the United States of America in June, testing their might against Portugal, Jamaica and USA senior women teams, and then featured at the six-nation Aisha Buhari Invitational Tournament hosted by the City of Lagos in September. They had earlier taken part in and won all three matches at the Turkish Women’s Cup in Antalya in February.

For the clash with the Black Queens, which first leg holds at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Wednesday, 20th October, Head Coach Randy Waldrum has invited goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, defenders Onome Ebi and Osinachi Ohale, midfielders Rasheedat Ajibade and Regina Otu, forwards Asisat Oshoala (captain), Gift Monday and Vivian Ikechukwu, and 15 others.

There are also defenders Glory Ogbonna, midfielders Rita Chikwelu and Toni Payne and forwards Desire Oparanozie, Uchenna Kanu and Francisca Ordega.

The return leg is scheduled for Sunday, 24th October in Accra.
