Contd

It is not the "Tell me about yourself" question that sends you home because, definitely there will always be a generic response to "Tell me about your self" unless the candidate is simply special or exceptional and such candidates are quite few.

IT is what comes after "Tell me about yourself" that sends you home...so you have to be smart and watch how you respond to the next question....This question may reveal to you the background of your interviewer, his strengths and weaknesses. It is then left for you to take full advantage and know what to avoid, what to say, and how to say what to say

"I was an observer in an interview where a candidate was asked how do you explain biochemistry to a layman"

This was the second question. From this question you can deduce two basic points

1. The interviewer is not a biochemistry major

2. The interviewer does not have a concrete knowledge about biological or natural science

What will matter most to the interviewer is ur use of English, how you arrange your thoughts and how convincing you portray yourself. Even when you say something "wrong" and is not too obvious don't bother correcting yourself (you may make more mistakes while doing that) just show confidence and convince him you know what you are talking about. Use good vocabulary too. (seriously during my interview the interviewer asked for the meaning of several words, although I had a heavy local accent back then) it makes you look knowledgeable.

If the question is technical based like "why do water have low boiling points"

You can easily deduce that your interviewer has a good knowledge about science. All you have to do is ensure you make use of the appropriate technical terms. Quickly correct yourself if you mistakenly slip and then try to remain focused...

Now You need to learn how to control the Pace of your interview.

You Also need to learn how to set Baits for the interviewer thereby keeping them at a corner where you want them to be and also asking the questions you want them to ask...

To be contd

I might be ignorant, but why? @bolded.

Chemical. Anytime anyday. It's excessively broad.
Looking at the situation it is not advisable to switch. Engineering gives you more chances of being hired...sciences is also cool...but the market is not too favourable for pure sciences. Chemical Engineering is great but we are looking at chances of being hired...

so in terms of mechanical and chemical engineering which is preferable?
they are both fantastic but go for mechanical engineering. If you ever have to choose between them. Mechanical gives you more chances of being hired. In the manufacturing and oil services both are needed. Recently you will discover there are car assemblage factories springing up in Nigeria you may not need a chemical engineer in such field....i hope you get the logic

Weldone Marxxxx.....Kudos!

I'm an aspiring student seeking to enter a Nigerian University via Direct Entry.

I just completed my OND in the Engineering filed - precisely Petroleum Engineering. Now, I want to seek for an admission in the university via Direct Entry and switch over to a Science course - Either Geophysics or Industrial Chemistry or Pure Chemistry.

I believe this your write up will serve as a weiger for me, but will still like to hear your say on these questions below:

Q1. What is your say about me switching from Engineering to Science?

Q2. The labor market today - which of the above listed courses is most sweetable to fit into the Nigerian Labor market easily?

Thank you very much as u attempt the above questions. Please any other person in the house can also help me out.

Thanks and God bless
I don't know if my response is coming in late but please do not switch to science I beg you. Rather continue with Mechanical Engineering. Petroleum is too narrow...A mechanical engineer will perform well in the oil sector as well as the manufacturing sector. Even slumberger will accept you just like a petroleum graduate. But you will not attract manufacturing firms like PG, coca cola, FrieslandCampina etc if you are a petrol major...I hope you get it...Sciences is a no go area...

I like the way you think- even though it's rigidly one-directional, which I suspect is a consequence of your consulting firm's engagement approach, it's satisfactorily holistic. Write s/th Marxx like jare. Dissect s/th other than marriage and relationship. Even how to cut cost while browsing Nairaland sounds fun embarassed embarassed embarassed embarassed huh huh huh

Jobs/VacanciesRe: Why Do Companies Outsource Their Services? by Marxxx: 4:03pm On May 15, 2016
You outsource for three reasons...but let me tell you, there are jobs not meant for graduates. A CCR is not a graduate job. To be frank. A graduate is trained to manage. To be a manager. CCR positions are meant for O'level holders. It is because of the the high unemployment rate that is why you see graduate taking up jobs not meant for them. Same goes for bank tellers and counters. These positions were initially designed for O'level holders....but because graduates are willing to take up these positions...shit happens
To the subject:

When you outsource, you are not liable or responsible for the staff....meaning you do not need to pay welfare packages like housing, transport, furniture, education, lunch etc

You don't think twice if you want to send them packing because you do not need to pay he/she off. No settlement.

With all these off your neck there will be so much profits for the greedy shareholders to share....... cheesy

Hey bro, i think you are in the "Advisory and Analysing" business, not sure though, so let me just speak some mumbo jumbo.

FrieslandCampina paid an interim dividend last year and also a final one recently. (If you don't have money, it is not by force to pay). From valuations, their current price on the NASD Mkt is below their intrinsic value.

I know most firms with exposure to FX issues have been impairing a lot and reducing costs, but taking a few trainees and letting go of some middle and top management hands seems one of the ways they are "reducing the costs". Also, the plan for these new entrants might just be an outsourced one too.

..and I don't post scam jobs. angry
David I just got off the phone with someone from Hr and it's negative. Whrlen FrieslandCampina outsources, you register on the outsourcing company's site...all the same l pray I am wrong but for a recruitment going on at this level and I have no inkling about it is almost impossible ...do have a lovely day
Jobs/VacanciesRe: FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria Plc Young Professionals Programme 2016 by Marxxx: 2:31pm On May 15, 2016
davide470 Are you sure this is not a scam? This is a scam. Please verify this is because FrieslandCampina is not having a good time and from a reliable source (MD) we are thinking of converting some departments to be managed by agencies I can't give give you all other details just know that even some juicy stuffs in frieslandCampina have been revamped although experts have been trying to turn things around so incurring more cost will not go well at this point. Although last month there was a major restructuring that led to the promotion of more than a 100 people (converting some to contract to full staff)...but there was no discussion about recruitment. That site doesn't really look like FrieslandCampina site. The Recruitment going on in FrieslandCampina lately is outsourced by other agencies and you register on the agency's portal...

I am not a staff of FrieslandCampina but I will really love you to check the site....it is substandard and that is not how FrieslandCampina advertise on their site. FrieslandCampina uses real staff of the company to advertise on their site not what I saw up there..

Ur welcome dear.

Well my transition was pretty tough. I pretty much gave up my whole life. Had my kids v soon after marriage. Twins. And there were health challenges. I've pretty much given up my whole life for my kids I've had very little support. Was pretty intense.

I wasn't very prayerful and I really feel that really had an impact on all that happened. So please get more prayerful and closer to God right from now.

You will have to give up a lot eg like free time, socialising time, you know just time to just relax and be. But you will be gaining a lot too.
I learned a lot. Thanks...tell the kids marxxx says hello...I hope you are very strong now? I believe in God. Thanks

You Don't Have To Get Married. It's No Big Deal.
You!!! I thought the spirit of God has made you pass over this topic. I hope your twin doesn't get here. People have a wrong impression about you when you are not married I know what am talkin about from work place to family. As you approach the peak of your career you need a good Network. Oftentimes people are not comfortable with you holding meetings and private discussions with their spouse when you are not married...and management loves it when when you have something to look after.....let me not type much...I know you are joking and troublesome...go joor

Our first year was not easy for us cos we courted for just three months. It was after the wedding that both of us realised that we were hot tempered and so many other imperfect characters.
But we started learning each other's character though it got to a point that we almost called it quit but he was not ready to give up and I too was trying to make it.
But right now, we now understand each other very well that we communicate even without talking just by looking into each others eyes.
Finally marriage is a very beautiful thing if you married the one meant for you.
It's been 7 years and still counting
Don't give up wink
Hmmmmmm...I like this. Truth be told I think if I will ever get married I will need to date for less than a month. This is because we might end up separating before we finally resolve to get married! Lol...So it's possible to just get married and do the patching as we sail....You guys did great! Kudos...

You don't have to give up anything that you don't want to give up but you can gain a lot.

Before you ask, I am 'married ' grin

First of all let me tell you well done for sitting down and thinking about what it is be a husband and father. Many do not and go into it woefully unprepared.

When it comes to marriage I would tell you to be absolutely sure before you take that leap. Compatibility is absolutely key. Date the person well. Less sex, more conversation

No one is perfect but truly make sure you can live with her imperfections. Try to really get to know her, her views on different issues and ideas. If there is a massive deviation from yours then run.

As for kids, you are right to be worried. It is a massive responsibility that we all want to do well. Right now I am sitting here with a scratched cornea cos my daughter poked me in the eye with her toy. And I couldn't break her head grin (though i wanted to ) don't let anyone deceive you its bloody hard work. There are a lot of low moments with kids but the high moments are the most extraordinary ever. When you look at your child's lovely smile. When they say mummy I love you. When they achieve things and you are so proud. It's worth it in the end.

I think you will actually be a good dad because you actually realise the enormity of bringing up another human being. They just think sebi everyone does it, what is there.

I suggest you have just 1 or 2 so that you can be sure to do your best with them.
Awwwww....you made me laugh @ "before you ask I am already married". wow I appreciate your write up. Seriously I do. But what about the transition? What are those things you gave up? Are there things you long for but you can't have/engage in them because you are married? How did you find the "concept of family"...Ensure you take great care so that there will be less poking...I am yearning to read ur post.
