Former president Olusegun Obasanjo has come under attack following his recent comment that the National Assembly was filled with rogues and armed robbers. Obasanjo had after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari given his opinion on the alleged padding of the 2016 budget in the House of Representatives. He said the budget padding crisis rocking the House of Reps, vindicated his position on the conduct of the lawmakers. Olusegun Obasanjo said the National Assembly was filled with rogues In a swift reaction, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Culture and Tourism, Senator Matthew Urhoghide (PDP, Edo South), said the Senate deserves and demands an unreserved apology from Obasanjo for casting aspersions and denigrating their individual integrity. READ ALSO: There are no men of integrity in National Assembly – Obasanjo “I believe former President Obasanjo has premised his denigrating comment on the on-going sordid accusations on 2016 budget between Hon Abdumumuni Jibrin, the erstwhile chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations and the leadership of the House of Representatives. What is going on in the media is indeed disgraceful if actually the mentioned House members did the padding of the 2016 budget ,” he said. On his part, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha, the Senate deputy minority leader, said the former president had no moral right to speak on corruption or condemn others for corruption. Also speaking, Joan Onyemaechi Mrakpor, the member representing Aniocha/Oshimili federal constituency of Delta state, said if the lawmakers were rogues as Obasanjo claimed, they would have collected his gratifications and amended the constitution for his third term bid “They would have taken the benefit of what would have come to them for amending the constitution for our father to remain in office for 12 years ,” she noted. Reacting to Obasanjo’s comment, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, said the way the former president was going about the whole thing was not good. He described Obasanjo as elder statesman and a father and should act as such. “With this position in the society, he should invite the leadership of the National Assembly, raise issues with them and advise where necessary. He should be able to manage the situation by advising both the Executive and the Legislature. He is a father to all, he should not blow up issues at the moment. We all need one another for the development and growth of this country,” Anyanwu explained. On his part, Ehiozuwa J. Agbonayinma, the member representing Egor/ Ikpoba federal constituency of Edo state, said calling members of the National Assembly thieves was Obasanjo’s personal opinion. He said: “I will want him to face the real issue which is that under his watch, Chief Bola Ige and Chief Harry Marshal were killed .” Agbonayinma asked the former president who allegedly parades himself as a saint to account for the $16 billion power project fund and numerous tax payers money that were allegedly wasted during his administration. “It was under his watch that money meant for us to have constant power supply was wasted and Nigerians were shortchanged. Nigerians can attest those that are criminals, rogues and thieves and those that are not. “The former President had all the ample opportunity to make Nigeria among the leading nation but unfortunately he didn’t use the time that God has given to him to ask for forgiveness that during his time thousands of Nigerians were killed ,” he added. The House of Reps has been entangled in crisis over the alleged 2016 padded budget. Following his removal as the chairman of the House of Reps Appropriation Committee last week, Adulmumin Jibrin, has been hurling accusations at the leadership of the House . He revealed how 10 standing committees secretly injected constituency projects worth N284 billion into the 2016 budget without the knowledge of the House. He also claimed that the speaker, Yakubu Dogara; his deputy, Yusuff Lasun; the whip, Ado Doguwa and House minority leader, Leo Ogor, supervised the insertion of N40billion into the budget at a secret location. Nairalanders please kindly advice me on a urgent situation. I travelled to my sisters place to spend the sallah break with her family, from the very first day of my visit I sensed that things were not normal; they were virtually faking every smile and obviously waiting for me to go back. I pretended not to care. . .. . .na family issue. Just this morning at exactly 5:50 a.m, hell let loose, they were raining insults at each other. The major problem was that her husband posted a DP on WhatsApp that got her angry and she refused to cook for 3 days insisting that he must apologise. Please don't mind the typo error's I typed it in a rush and with a sleepy eye. I was dreaming of my dream man when they woke me up. Please what's the best way to handle this issue. Please treat as urgent . See picture below

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, on Monday revived a controversy surrounding the role played by Aisha, President Muhammadu Buhari’s wife, in the messy bribery scandal involving U.S. Congressman, Williams Jefferson. Mr. Fayose distributed a link to the U.S. Department of Justice Web site holding court documents where Mrs. Buhari was alleged to have transferred suspicious funds to a convicted former American congressman, Williams Jefferson. In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, Mr. Fayose said President Buhari was far from being a clean man. “Even the President cannot claim to be an angel,” the governor said, in reaction to the freezing of his Zenith Bank account by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. “The estate he built in Abuja is known to us. His wife was indicted over the Halliburton Scandal (sic). When that American, Jefferson, was being sentenced, the President’s wife was mentioned as having wired $170,000 to Jefferson. Her name was on page 25 of the sentencing of Jefferson. We can serialize the judgment for people to see and read.” The governor’s Special Assistant on New Media, Lere Olayinka, later circulated links to and copies of the court document detailing Mrs Buhari’s mention in the scandal. The documents showed that in some of the exhibits tendered in convicting Mr. Jefferson of bribery, a Mrs. Buhari was mentioned as transferring $170,000 to the American politician using a firm as proxy. “Government Exhibits 36-87 (6/26/02 $170,000 wire transfer from account in Nigeria in the name of Aisha Buhari to an account in the name of The ANJ Group, LLC, identifying “William Jefferson” as Beneficiary),” the U.S. Government Sentencing Memorandum said on page 22. Mrs. Buhari could not be reached for comments. And Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, declined comments, saying he would need to check the documents himself before issuing an official statement. Mr. Fayose’s comment sparked a recollection of how Mr. Jefferson, between 2000 and 2005, used his position as member of the U.S. House of Representatives to offer illegal services to private companies for cash rewards. Mr. Jefferson and his family, according to U.S. authorities, received about $367,500 through through his firm, ANJ Group, for services rendered to iGate, an American broadband technology provider. An indigenous firm, Netlink Digital Television, had signed a joint venture with iGate to set up digital satellite TV and broadband Internet services in the country. NDTV was owned by Oyewole Fasawe, a PDP chieftain at the time. Mr. Jefferson was contracted to help promote iGate and NDTV partnership in Nigeria. Following a lengthy trial, Mr. Jefferson was convicted in 2009 and sentenced to 13 years in prison. Although Mr. Fasawe was arrested in 2005 by the EFCC, he was never convicted. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar were also said to be a person of interest in the allegations. A report released by the EFCC on June 22, 2006 about the bribery scandal indicated that the commission investigated accounts held by Mrs. Buhari, including one she had with Citizens Bank. A 2007 New York Times’ article detailed how Mrs. Buhari told an acquaintance in Washington that she was a daughter of a former Nigerian head of state and a friend of Mr. Jefferson. “As the pair struck up a conversation and subsequently became friends, Mr. Assiba, then a security guard, said she told him that her father was the former military ruler of Nigeria, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, and that her American friends included politicians like Mr. Jefferson of Louisiana.”

Burning incense, also known as ‘Dhukkhan’ or ‘Turaren Wuta’, is increasingly becoming popular among ladies in Borno State, especially the Shuwa Arabs and Kanuris who use it to attract men. Burned in a charcoal fire in a metal or ceramic burner to warm their body, the ladies believe the scent attracts men. The popularity of the incense has risen to the extent that even non-Shuwa or Kanuri women use it often. The popularity has seen even married women getting on the trend’s boat. In fact, it is difficult to see them not using Dhukkhan, as Hajiya Ashe Al-Amin, a Shuwa Arab civil servant in the state, put it: “Dhukkhan or Turaren Wuta is part of our life and we cannot do without it.” She added: “If you want to marry any Shuwa lady in Borno State or Chad you must be ready to provide Dhukkhan as one of the necessary requirements for the marriage and the man must be ready to provide same, for as long as they remain together.” When asked if Dhukkhan has any power to attract men, Hajiya Ashe said there is no magic in it. “Every person likes good things. It is the sweet scent that attracts the men. Dhukkhan is of different types, and so also the unique fragrance. When you burn a good combination, your husband would like to sit near you, eating his food and enjoying your company because of the nice fragrance. His friends will be waiting for him outside, but he won’t want to leave you. That is the reason why we do not allow young girls to use Dhukkhan before they marry. Men will attach themselves to them and that will be another problem. No man can resist the power of Dhukkhan, unless they did not mix the right combo for him,” she said. Miss Adama Tom, a Shuwa Arab from the University of Maiduguri, said Dhukkhan incense is a combination of selected scents that come in form of sticks, mixed with other fragrances, originating from the Arab world. “It is imported from Arab countries, as well as Egypt, Sudan, Chad, Saudi Arabia and others. The combination possibilities are endless,” she said. She added: “That is why when a Shuwa woman passes by, you will know her class from the scent she’s wearing. It’s when [Kanuri women] realized that they were losing their husbands to Shuwa women because of the power of Dhukkhan that they also started using it. Now Hausa - and even Igbo women - are using it.” Our respondents said when a Shuwa family is marrying out a daughter, the dowry is the first major requirement, closely followed by money to buy Dhukkhan. “Without money to buy Dhukkhan, you can never marry a Shuwa Arab girl,” said Miss Adama. The incense is housed in beautifully-decorated vessels, arranged in a cupboard or showcased in a glass case for wedding guests to see on the special day. Even after giving birth, Shuwa women use Dhukkhan to treat themselves. Miss Adama said after giving birth, “They will put a small amount of Dhukkhan in hot charcoal and sit close to it and cover up with a cloth so the incense vapours would cover them up, with the belief that it will make them healthier and look younger, and also heal them quickly from the effects of childbirth.” Barrister Aisha Wakil is an Igbo lady who uses Dhukkhan, as she said both Islam and Christianity encourages the use of fragrance. “It can be used in the bedroom, sitting room, on clothes and on one’s body, to smell nice,” she said. Barrister Aisha explained that when the incense is burned and it fills the air with sweet fragrance, it means a lot to a Kanuri man. “It attracts your husband to you. It also brings joy to a Kanuri man, as even if he doesn’t have appetite for food, the fragrance of Dhukkhan triggers him to eat,” she said. Adam Saleh is a Maiduguri-based businessman who told Daily Trust that he regularly gives his wife money to buy incense, because he likes it. But he added: “That is why men should not allow their wives to use certain types of Dhukkhan when going out, as that will attract other men.” At the Monday Market in Maiduguri where the incense is sold in large quantity, Chairman of Dhukkhan traders at the market, Alhaji Basiru Usman said it has been popular for over a century. Though it is largely imported, a substantial part of it is locally produced in the state, with patrons from all over the world. Alhaji Usman also said: “We sell Dhukkhan in kilograms ranging from N1,000 per kilo depending on the type. People from other states, including the South, all come to buy Dhukkhan. We have the trees used in producing Dhukkhan here in the state but we import the perfume we use in mixing it from countries like United Arab Emirate, Saudi Arabia, Chad, Sudan and Senegal. We have a big market for it here though insurgency is slowing down our business.” Fatima Bukar, 30, a Dhukkhan trader in Gwange, also produces the incense locally, including types used as room freshener, body ointment, oil, hair cream, and for clothes. “Young ladies that have identified men that they like will come and I will mix Dhukkhan that they will use to ‘catch’ them. There is power in Dhukkhan,” she smiled. Source - http://www.dailytrust.com.ng/news/feature/how-borno-ladies-use-local-incense-to-catch-men/149679.html?platform=hootsuite
