amberacious: The Ugly Beauty


When she was born she was named Mabel
But in her neighbourhood she was known as Jezebel
People say her way of life earned her this label
Because at every law of modesty she would always rebel


She was just a girl but she was on fire
Whenever she was on the street, boys could not but admire
She possessed what the greedy men desire
If only she knew that beauty fades and hers will soon expire


She used her beauty as decoy
To lure every greedy man and lusting boy
She broke many homes, destroying their source of joy
She was a master player that dealt with her victim as mere toy


Recently i met with Mr Shina her ex
Who will forever remember what she took from him just for sex
He lost his marriage, his job and duplex
And his simple life turned complicated and complex


At age eighteen, she should have being a mother of seven
But all these gifts of union she heartlessly sent back to heaven
Soon her cup became full with sins unforgiven
Nemesis chose it was time to make even.


She didn't know this abortion will be her last
She fought to stay alive but it was her life against the ones she killed in the past
In the end she was banished to the land of the dead as an outcast
Though I knew her time was running out, i didn't know it would be this fast.

TAKING TURNS

The clock ticked tocked with a stammering crawl
Time is slowly unfair to those who wait
Wednesdays and Saturdays' times are fond of doing this to her.
Today is saturday, the market day, thus the new orange gown she is now wearing...
anyway, in a minute's time it would be time, that special time: 7:45...pm.

The last time was wednesday,
she had waited through satuday, so she can't waited any longer
it is beacause she is the 3rd, if she was the 1st, Sunday would have been included
if the days of the week was up to eight, a third day would have been included
if the the time had moved faster, by now..., only if the ifs were in her favour.

She had took time to prepare his favourite; banga soup and starch, 'his' is Deltan
fresh fish and prawns, components of her banga soup, filled the ewere(earthen plate), thanks to market day
she will present it first, the banga soup
she will even kneel while 'his' consume the delicacy, 'his' is very traditional
but she do not mind, she is already on her way, its 07:45pm.

The door was supposed to be left ajar, so she can push it open
but the door was not left ajar, it was always let ajar, why is today different?
It wouldn't cost anything to knock, except for the tray of banga soup and starch on her hand
she carefully layed it down but with an extra rather instintive care;
she cannot afford to spill the content of the product of her effort, not this eleventh hour.

There was no response to her first ra ta ta
so she went for a second and seconds past before she rained a third,
'Chief'!, 'Chief'!!, that is what she calls 'his'
'hold on, wait a minute, i'm coming', that was chief
the door opens ajar, the way it should have initially been, but chief was standing by it.

'Did you forget today is my turn'?
but without a word chief turned inside
cured of her few seconds blindenes she realises he is wearing no pants
'Chieeeeeeef' the voice of another woman echoed, the sole reason her turn was turned down
chief had just taken a fourth wife.

centje: EXPERIENCE

On the crossbar she sat herself;
With broken hand for medical care.
On the road rifle at the ready was held;
Soldiers stentorian orders were blared.
Like a child rent from the mother;
With a start sidled up to the father.
Everybody there was downcast;
I thought the die was the cast.

For the charred jeep by the road;
Villagers were chased like rogues.
Lined in tremor,patches and rags;
With impunity frisked to pants.
Willy-nilly in two trailer trucks.
A Hobson's choice to make tracks.
Through the lonely bushy pastures;
We went down the dreary campus.

Officer goggled at all and sundry;
The batmen behind followed as a duty.
With many in a slum that stank;
I thought that life was at stake.
Barred for three without a draught;
But for seven hunger dropped.
There's more to the event of seventy;
Than meets the eye of the unconcerned.

Red-alert for the worst yet to come;
Immediate release was then the command.
From the prison as dirty as pigs;
From the heavens our dirts were washed.
For years,she was out of sight,out of mind;
But to us unknown that God has planned.

ur dad was a wonderful poet, (*pays tribute*), i could see the picture and feel the emotions, sorry about him though, i'm sure you are so proud of him
