PoliticsRe: Woman And Son Confront Fulani Herdsman Destroying Their Farm (video) by MasterTeeUSA: 3:21am On Jun 15
The poor Fulani boy may have been hired by one of their kinsmen and told to go over there. I also doubt if the people attacking him have papers to prove the farm belong to them sef. Most Families just accept tales and assume ownership without concrete proof of ownership. Back to Fulani boy, I am sure he did not come from the North only to enter a farm far from home...Language Barrier is another issue we are dealing with. All Nigerians should be able to speak basic Igbo and basic Fulani/Yoruba so we can communicate respectfully. If something happens to that boy, his family will retaliate...so where does all this violence end? That is what Benue/Plateau is experiencing...Death begets death.

Rapmoney:
An angry woman and her son confronted a Fulani herdsman who usually brings his cows to graze on their farm land.

I sincerely wonder why in these current times when the world is embracing science and technology in Agriculture, people are still moving around with farm animals, destroying other people's livelihood, and we think it is normal in Nigeria.

Foreign AffairsRe: Factory Workers In South Africa Protest: We Want The Foreigners To Come Back Now by MasterTeeUSA: 1:34pm On Jun 14
UK never recovered from BREXIT. South Africa will learn the hard way. If not for immigrants, lots of countries won’t grow as much. Amazon, SpaceX, Uber in America…all staffed by lots of immigrants. UK tried to reverse BreXit by introducing students visa, care worker pathways and teachers recruitment amongst others…if not for those, they will be in serious trouble by now.

By 2026, analysis indicates that Brexit has made the UK economy 6–8% smaller than it would have been otherwise, causing a gradual, persistent drag on growth rather than an immediate collapse.
While the 2016 referendum created prolonged uncertainty, the formal exit in 2020 introduced non-tariff barriers that increased trade costs, reduced business investment, and slowed productivity compared to similar advanced economies.Key Economic Changes Before and After BrexitGrowth and GDP: Before 2016, the UK economy grew at a similar rate to other advanced nations. Post-referendum, the UK began lagging behind this group, with studies suggesting that by 2025, GDP per head was 6–8% lower than a "do-nothing" scenario.Trade: Leaving the single market and customs union on January 1, 2021, introduced new bureaucratic, customs, and regulatory burdens on goods trade with the EU. While a tariff-free agreement was reached, this increased the cost of doing business, causing some sectors to see a significant drop in export volumes to the EU.Investment: Business investment was particularly hard hit, lagging behind comparable countries by 12–18% by 2025. Persistent uncertainty and the loss of frictionless access to the EU caused firms to cut or delay investment.Labor and Migration: The end of freedom of movement changed the labor market. While Brexit aimed to reduce net inward migration, the post-Brexit migration regime has still seen net migration exceed previous forecasts (340,000 per year projected in 2025). However, the immediate impact included shortages in sectors reliant on EU labor, such as hospitality and farming.Productivity: Labor productivity is estimated to be around 4% lower than it would have been, driven by reduced trade openness and lower investment.

nlfpmod:
South African factory workers, mostly women, protested in the streets demanding the return of dismissed foreign employees, warning that factories risk closure without their skilled labour in areas like machining.

Nonsense talk. I save every time I am in Nigeria. Maybe he should learn to buy and cook his own food lol. If you want to keep eating out in fancy restaurants, then expect to pay more than the fast food you buy in LA. I rent self contained in Nigeria...he is probably renting duplex in Lagos and apartment in LA. You buy your own stuff and cook, and eat out occassionally. Fastfood meal is $10-$15 and you will eat twice or three times...would I spend close to N20k daily in Naija...what will I be buying? I spent about 25% of what I will spend in the US on meals in Nigeria.

Most places are close by so even gasoline is not used as often as it is in the USA where you drive everywhere for everything. Cut your clothes according to your cloth...but people want to flex in Nigeria...of course you will go broke lol. grin grin grin

Wike is doing a lot in Abuja...opening up new roads mean better investment in the outskirts and better internet connectivity...I hope you plan to vote for continuity...if not, na you sabi lol

isaiah4life:
For over 28 year, I have had the mentality of Our vote doesn't count and it has made me lose interest in either voting. Every election I always sleep in my place and only followed online. Today, it changed and I decided for the first time in my life I will get mine.

My experience will help those who are like me.

=> How Much It Took Me To Get It. Because I was staying at the outsketch of Abuja. I had to do it at Bwari. From my place to Bwari costed me 2,400 going and 2,400 coming back.

THE PROCESS:

I got there on Friday June 5 2026 and the location at Bwari is Inec office opposite Federal high court Bwari. The bike man took me from where the cab dropped closed to Jamb office to the Inec office for 200 naira.

On Friday, there was no network. It was only one BVAS machine Bwari Inec office had. I was so disappointed and I waited from 7am till 3:30pm and that was how I couldn't do it on Friday. With the frustration and hunger in my face, I was given a serial number. Only few of the staff knew how to calm us down. The rest were trying to discourage us from staying around.

Fast forward till Monday the 8th June 2026. I spent another 4,800 naira to the centre. For money I don't have. The staff resumed at about 8:48am. I was there by 6am and The gate was clocked until when the security guy came to open it. This time around there was two BVAS machine for the registration.

A sensitization was done before 9am a staff told us that if you are for a fresh registration you should do a pre registration with your phone on their website. The only issue is that for those trying to upload their photos, it will be difficult but keep trying and if you can't. When you are allowed inside their office, the staff will do it for you.

After sitting down on a stone for over an hour. My number from Friday was called and I entered. One thing. There is no chairs for applicants to seat at the Inec office.

I showed the man my phone application and he used my number on the slip to enter my information and I did thumb print for my four left and right fingers and thumb. He then proceed with capturing my face with the bvas machine. You will be forced to smile or else it won't go through. Guess what? The network was so so bad. I sat down there in front of the man for close to 15 minutes.

A slip was generated for me which I attached and I took it to a lady within the office and she entered my information from the slip before I was asked to use an ink to thumbprint on a paper. I was asked to go and photocopy the slip for future reference.

This was an eye opening experiencing. I started on Friday and ended on Monday. Some centre might be less but if you are around Bwari Local Government Area of Abuja. This is your case. I am so tired now from the pushing and stress. Please don't give up on the stress. It can be frustrating but try.

Do we have phone towers inside the forest? . Do you know some of these guys use satellite phones and vpn registered in foreign countries?

TravelRe: Update On The Benin-sapele Road by MasterTeeUSA: 3:10pm On Jun 08
That shows you lack foresight. That new highway has more than 10X the values of land in that corridor. Will open more parts of the country to development so the population can spread out. Go and check how many new highways are being built in other countries. You need multiple routes in Nigeria, or you prefer when accident closes the only route, and you have to be in traffic for 4-5hours. Then again, an average Nigerian that complains a lot do not think like a visionary leader.

PoliticsRe: “Edo Is Truly Shining”: Sarcastic Chants As Floods Submerge Benin City (Video) by MasterTeeUSA: 2:57pm On Jun 08
I was watching people ridicule the flyovers in Edo State. Then, I remember most Nigerians cannot think. The first question is why do you have so much flooding in Edo. Drainage issues and would that solve the problem totally...No, because people continue to dump refuses in the drainage system. Clogged drainage destroys the roads, so no matter what the Government do in terms of road repairs, things would go bad...now comes the flyovers...it solves many issues...

1. It decongest traffic
2. It cannot be flooded
3. It also eases transportation for bikes and those walking the streets.

So why the flyovers may not be the end all...watching AriseNews castigate the Governor because they just hate him and their guy in PDP lost is sickening. Then again, I am not surprised because AriseNews play to their audience, and most of them cannot think for themselves.

BusinessRe: I Earn ₦500,000/month But I Am Poorer Than When I Was Earning ₦150,000 In 2019 by MasterTeeUSA: 2:51pm On Jun 08
So quit working for salary and start your own business so other people that need the N500k monthly can take the job and give thanks to God. All these lamentations ignore Covid-19 and inflation all over the world. Even in the US, UK...it is there...but you do not often hear Books of Lamentations because we go ignore that nonsense. If you cannot afford rent, move with your parents. You can rent a room in a 3bedroom flat...or go and marry. Think through solutions and just STOP lamenting. grin grin grin

Ifeoluwadev:
Before anybody calls me a liar or a complainer, sit down and read this first. Because I have numbers. And numbers don't lie.

In 2019, I was earning ₦150,000 per month. Junior staff. I was not rich at all. But I was comfortable. I could breathe.

Today in 2026, I earn ₦500,000 per month. On paper that is more than 3x growth. I should be living large. I should have savings. I should be talking about investments by now.

Instead I am broke before the 25th of every month.

Let me show you exactly why.

THE NAIRA ITSELF
In 2019, one dollar was roughly ₦360.
Today in 2026, one dollar is over ₦1,500.

The naira has lost about 75% of its value against the dollar in 7 years. So anything imported, whether electronics, medicine, baby products or even some food, now costs 4 times what it used to.

My ₦500k today equals roughly $333.
My ₦150k in 2019 was worth roughly $416.

Read that again.

I earn more naira but fewer dollars. In real purchasing power I have gone backwards even though my salary tripled on paper.

FOOD

In 2019, I fed myself comfortably for around ₦30,000 per month. Decent food, market twice a week, occasionally a small restaurant.

Today that same lifestyle costs me at least ₦120,000 and that is me managing carefully.

| Item | 2019 | 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Bag of rice (50kg) | ₦18,000 | ₦85,000+ |
| Cooking gas (12.5kg) | ₦3,500 | ₦18,000+ |
| Groundnut oil (4 litres) | ₦2,800 | ₦12,000+ |
| Tomatoes (paint bucket) | ₦800 | ₦5,000+ |
| Full chicken | ₦2,500 | ₦10,000+ |
| Big loaf of bread | ₦350 | ₦1,500+ |

My food budget went up by 400%. My salary went up by 233%. The food is winning.

RENT

In 2019, I paid ₦350,000 per year for a decent one bedroom in a Lagos suburb. That is about ₦29,000 per month if you break it down.

Today that same apartment, same area, same size, same leaking ceiling, is ₦1.2 million per year. That is ₦100,000 per month equivalent.

I now spend 20% of my gross salary on rent alone. And landlords still want one to two years upfront. So every renewal season I need to drop over ₦1 million at once like I am buying land.

ELECTRICITY AND GENERATOR
In 2019, NEPA was bad but manageable. Fuel was ₦145 per litre. My monthly gen fuel was around ₦8,000.

Today petrol is close to ₦1,500 per litre. My monthly generator fuel alone is ₦45,000. And NEPA is still giving me the same 4 hours they gave me in 2019. Nothing changed on their side except the bills went up.

TRANSPORT

Bus from my estate to office in 2019 was ₦150 each way. That is ₦300 per day, about ₦6,600 per month.

Same route today is ₦700 minimum each way. ₦1,400 per day. Nearly ₦31,000 per month.

Ride hailing? Multiply that by three. I now spend between ₦30,000 and ₦50,000 every month just moving my body from home to work and back.

SO WHERE DOES THE ₦500K GO?

| Expense | Monthly |
|---|---|
| Rent (broken down monthly) | ₦100,000 |
| Food and groceries | ₦120,000 |
| Generator fuel | ₦45,000 |
| Transport | ₦35,000 |
| NEPA bill | ₦18,000 |
| Airtime and data | ₦12,000 |
| Toiletries and misc | ₦20,000 |
| Tithe | ₦25,000 |
| **Total** | **₦375,000+** |

That leaves me ₦125,000 for savings, emergencies, hospital, clothes, sending money home, school fees if you have children, and anything unexpected.

In 2019 on ₦150,000, my total expenses were under ₦90,000 and I had ₦60,000 left. That leftover was worth $167 at the time. My ₦125,000 leftover today is worth $83.

I saved more real money when I earned less. That is not a feeling. That is arithmetic.

THE PART NOBODY TALKS ABOUT
Beyond the numbers, what has changed is how money feels.

In 2019, seeing ₦100,000 in my account felt like safety. Like I had options. Like I could breathe easy.

Today I see ₦500,000 land on payday and my first feeling is anxiety, not happiness. Because I immediately start calculating what is owed, what is running out, what will still not be enough.

That shift from feeling okay to feeling like you are always one emergency away from trouble, even as your salary grows, is what this economy has quietly done to the Nigerian middle class.

We are not imagining things. We are not lazy. We are not bad at managing money. We are just running on a treadmill that keeps speeding up.

MY QUESTION TO NAIRALANDERS:
What was your salary in 2019 and what is it today? Are you genuinely better off or are you like me, earning more and living less?

Drop your numbers in the comments. No judgement for anybody. Let us count together.

SportsRe: FIFA Bans Refillable Water Bottles At World Cup Venues by MasterTeeUSA: 10:48pm On Jun 04
Could be a security concern, so people will not bring chemical weapons into the World Cup by claiming refillable bottles.

spenzdav:
FIFA has banned fans from bringing refillable water bottles into World Cup venues in a last-minute policy change that will force thirsty supporters to pay for bottled water, The Athletic reported on Wednesday.

As recently as last month, FIFA’s official stadium code of conduct included a clause which read: “For the avoidance of doubt, empty, transparent, reusable plastic bottles, up to (1 litre in) capacity, may be brought into the Stadium.”

However, The Athletic reported on Wednesday that those guidelines had now been tweaked to explicitly ban refillable bottles.

“For the avoidance of doubt, reusable water bottles may not be brought into the stadium,” an updated stadium code of conduct reads.

In a statement to AFP, a FIFA spokesperson said the rule change was taken on safety grounds, noting that several World Cup venues already barred the use of refillable water bottles.

“FIFA is committed to protecting the health and safety of all players, referees, fans, volunteers, and staff,” the statement read.

“FIFA made the decision to prohibit bottles to prevent risk and injury to players and attendees.

“Outside bottles are already prohibited at several of these venues for safety considerations, and FIFA is applying this consideration across its tournament stadiums.”

The statement added that misting stations, fans, hydration stations and cooling tents would be available in “the stadium footprint”.

It added that bottled water inside the venue would be sold at prices which “remain consistent with other events held at each stadium.”

The rule change comes despite experts warning fans could face health risks from extreme heat at open-air venues during the World Cup, which is being co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.

A report published by the World Weather Attribution research group last month estimated that 26 of 104 games at the World Cup are likely to be played in conditions where the Wet Bulb Global Temperature (WBGT) exceeds 26 degrees.

WBGT is a measure of heat stress on the human body, which combines temperature, humidity, wind and sunlight.

At last year’s FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, where fans complained of searing temperatures, supporters were also barred from bringing water bottles into venues.
