BusinessRe: Nigerian Fashion Designers — How Do You Reach Customers Abroad? by MasterTeeUSA: 10:22pm On May 17
I do my best to advise people…if you are a fashion designer, reach out. You give to take. I won’t charge you but pls be good and be honest

Wonder2501:
Let me be honest with you all.

I have seen so many talented Nigerian
designers on this forum and on Instagram
whose work is absolutely world class.

But somehow a woman in Houston
or London who desperately wants
authentic Nigerian fashion
still cannot find them.

How does that make sense? 😩

The talent is here.
The customers are there.
But the distance, the payment wahala,
the shipping stress always wins.

For designers who have tried
getting international clients —
how did you do it?
What worked? What nearly killed you? 😅

And for those who haven't tried —
what is the biggest thing
holding you back?

Because I genuinely believe Nigerian
designers deserve a global audience.
PoliticsRe: Tinubu Is A Complete Failure: FG Is Deep In Debt - OBJ (Video) by MasterTeeUSA: 7:47pm On May 14
Very dump thing to say. If that is what Rich people do, they would not excel. How many years before even TESLA became profitable?

Is US not borrowing and in debt? How can you expand economy if you are stuck in paying debts and not expanding. All the debts we are taking in will multiple the economy in folds.

How do you want to invite people to come and see our tourist centers, or move agro produce from North to South without good lasting highways. What should be the focus is what the Govt is doing with the money and the plans to repay.

Obasanjo was there for 8yrs...please what are his lasting legacies? If he has done half of what Tinubu is doing, we would not be where we are but they spend $16 billion on Electricity Failure.

I have debt. I am not paying it off. I am instead investing. In 2-3 years, I will use the revenue from investments to pay off debts while still holding on to my investment. Please fact check to see how many countries carry debt? Are they all stupid and Obj is the wise one?

RomanceRe: She Chose Her Hotel Job Over Her Relationship by MasterTeeUSA: 2:05pm On May 14
Maybe your friend should quit his job and become a cleaner at the hotel in order to monitor the wife after the marriage. The poor girl is probably getting lots of tips and extra income from the hotel job in addition to a nice salary, but here you want her to quit and sit in a supermarket. If you have trust issues, do not marry her or do not marry at all.

Whether it is office job or supermarket or hotel or hospital, you cannot stop someone from stepping out. If you are confident about your skills in bed, you wont even worry lol...cos she would be exhausted before going to work and wont want to do another round. I think your friend worries someone else may take her away doing a better job or is he saying that she is tied to the salary she gets that she does not value your relationship. Please, the poor girl does not want to suffer in a marriage.

Toolegit123:
Good afternoon Nairalanders.

A friend of mine came to seek advise from me yesterday and I only gave him the little I knew I could give.

There's the girl he has been dating for over a year now and things had really gotten serious between the both of them. So, taking the next step which is about going to see her people has been on his mind for some time now.

Now, here's the problem. This particular lady in question is presently working in a hotel and she has been holding a very big position in the hotel. Just like how we are made to believe, concerning ladies working in hotels. Of course, we've heard of various cases of how ladies working in hotels turn out to be promiscuous and render their bodies for men who comes to lodge in those hotels which they're working in. This friend of mine is worried, and has asked his lady times without a number if she would quit the hotel work after getting married to pursue another career. He has even promised to open a super market for her but she didn't obliged to his request.

As a matter of fact,my friend is currently considering walking out of the relationship but I told him to speak with her one more time. And if she should insist on quitting the hotel work, then,he could do whatever he has on his mind.

So,my dear fellow Nairalanders, especially the guys ,how do you guys view this kind of situation?

I am for real. If he can, he does not need to offer N5m and his actions and behavior should be enough to find him a reasonable girlfriend that is ready to settle down. Would you offer N5m for someone to have baby for you? Does the whole thing not sound weird to you?

You meant trash.* Anyways, my point is that if he was serious...he should not have waited till 42yrs old to be offering N5m for someone to have a child with him. He also wants a 20-24yr old and then listed all these conditions for N5m. If you have a daughter, would you sign her up for this nonsense? Birds of the same feather think alike. I could care less about Speed or Velocity Darlington.

I know about some villages not killing snakes...but the story of snake visiting baby and all that seems like a myth to me. Indians dont believe in killing or eating cows lol. I understand trees and sacrifices to them...but if someone told me people were coming out of trees, I would consider that a myth too like medusa with snakes in the head.

Prudoh:
He’s not lying. I’m from Etim Ekpo, an LGA in Annang. What he’s trying to say is "soul affinity". Every district has its own soul affinity, for example, the leopard, snake, or crocodile. The belief is that we have more than one soul. one is within you, and the other is with nature. Some people even have an affinity with trees.
The funny thing is that people do not eat the animals they have an affinity with. The purpose of this belief is that the way you do things is heavily affected by your soul affinity. for instance, those with a snake affinity are very good healers. You don’t kill snakes in most parts of Annang, whether it is someone’s soul affinity or not, and they don’t harm people, just like he said. He’s not lying. That’s why soul changing is very rampant in Annang. one of the reasons is that your soul affinity may be a useless animal, so they change it according to tradition. At some point, it’s like a cult.
TravelRe: Is Air Peace Reliable? Share Your Experience by MasterTeeUSA: 12:45am On May 13
I have shared my experience many times. I am done with AirPeace. I am not the type to complain and I actually hate songs of lamentations about Nigeria...but AirPeace services were way below normal standard LOL. Let me try again here..

1. We were promised NEW Aircraft - AirPeace must have decided to use the Aircraft from Abuja to Gatwick for the Elites. From Lagos, they decided to use one of the oldest aircrafts ever. I dont even remember ever getting on something that old on cheaper airlines within Europe or to Europe. Entertainment did not work for me, and chairs were not comfortable at all. At least, refit the airline and upgrade it even if it is old.

2. No luggage services at Gatwick - Someone took my luggage and that of a Grandma. We went to the airport baggage services and we were told they do not service AirPeace. I called the number on the luggage left and discover who took mine, and I had to take the person's luggage outside the airport to exchange. I was just getting scared...what if that other luggage had drugs? I saw many unclaimed luggages there...on the floor. The Grandma had wedding clothes that was to be used that day...she could not retrieve and no one, absolutely no one to speak to.

3. AirPeace wants you to arrive 4hrs before departure - Flight is 11am, so you must be there by 7am. Leaving London for almost an hr trip meant I had to leave hotel and be at the bus by before 6am. Luckily I got on the 5:30am bus only to get to Gatwick and they didnt even open the check-in till about 8am. Just stayed on the line for nothing and no comfortable chairs.

4. Leaving from Nigeria was no different - same old aircraft, late departure and poor coordination. It felt like we went through 4 checkpoints lol. I was done.

I actually flew from US to UK, so I can support AirPeace but the wahala is too much traveling from London into Gatwick all for an old plane, poor services and no compensation or ways to complain...AirPeace only deflects and we make it tribal. This year, I am flying EqyptAir...Last year, I took Qatar Airways. I am curious to see if EgyptAir is worth it. Trying to support another african airline. I will also take Kenya Airways to Nairobi later. AirPeace MUST do better to win some of us back. That is how I traveled to NYC to support then Arik Air...but they screwed up badly too. I was not surprised they did not survive.

truxperteam:
Following the London Gatwick incident where passengers including elderly people were stranded for hours after a bird strike, many Nigerians are speaking out about Air Peace.
I want to hear from Nairaland — what has your experience been with Air Peace?

Have you experienced delays without communication?

How was the customer service when things went wrong?
Or did you have a great experience worth sharing?

UkoAnnang:

Life is a mystery

One could not believe

Why growing up there was this specie of snakes will don't kill in our community no matter what, and these snakes don't bite even if you mistakenly step on them.

These snakes often goes to people home
Sometimes we can be sleeping on top of the bed while they sneak in under, sometimes they laid the door frame, sometimes down behind the local clay port my grandmother used to preserve drive water water. My grandmother knew but wouldn't tell us until when our eyes eventually caught on it that's when my grandmother will talk to it and they will slowly move out of the house.

There was once my aunt delivered a baby and decided to come home for care, lo we heard my aunt called out in the night we woke up when rushed in behold we see this snake right at the bed frame where the baby laid his head. My grandmother told us to calm down that it came to see the baby and talk to it and rolled back to little hole in the ceiling.

It was like that in every home, even elders will pack their motorcycle and help them cross the the if found on the road trying to cross to avoid it being killed.

There was this shrine in the community where these creatures will come all out in every particular market day, and in such days elders of the community will put palmfront across the road leading to that shrine and the village square so strangers wouldn't take that route.

In such days they will come out in numbers filled the community square where the shrine was located, elders who were fearless enough still walk through there without being bitten by any, but motorcycle, bicycles and cars will not go in there in such days.

Controversial singer Speed Darlington has stirred reactions online after revealing that he is willing to pay ₦5 million to any woman willing to have a child for him.

According to the entertainer, he is not interested in marriage but wants to become a father.

He disclosed that he had previously offered ₦3 million two years ago but was dissatisfied with the people he met at the time.

Speed Darlington added that he prefers a woman between the ages of 20 and 24 and specifically mentioned someone from a financially struggling background rather than a wealthy family.

He also stated that the woman would still be allowed access to the child after birth.

His words in part …

“I was offering ₦3 million two years ago, but I didn’t like the age range of the people I met. Now, I’m willing to pay ₦5 million to any lady willing to have a child for me. I don’t want marriage, however, you can always come and see the child anytime you want. I prefer someone between the ages of 20–24, someone struggling financially, not from a rich family.”

Sir, that is very different. Invasion of Ukraine, leading to sanctions against Russia and Russians can be justified because it is not good for the future of the world for big and strong nations to believe they can arbitrarily invade and dominate smaller nations without consequence.

How can you compare that to xenophobic attacks that is a crime politicians and diplomats (Nigerian and South African) must charge policing authority to deal with? Dude, is Nigeria at war with South Africa? Get a grip bruv.

TELL that to UK and US that forced a Russian Oligarch to sell his soccer team, and seized multiple russian assets in the US and UK. By trying to force takeaway of MTN and DSTV, those businesses will compel their govt to do something which is what happened here. You need to understand how politics work.

WizardOfNG:
MTN and DSTV are businesses. They cannot be held responsible for what ordinary South Africans do. If you build a great business in Ghana, do you want it destroyed when some Nigerians over there attack and kill some Ghanaians?

Your business must be destroyed or taken away from you simply because you share nation of origin with wrongdoers you don't know and do not even approve of their action? This is too ignorant from Oshiomhole abeg.

This your estimate get as he be lol.

We often overlook some vital factors in building construction, such as the building size, type of foundation, level of finishing, quality of materials, location, and many other details. That is why my 2–3 bedroom house may be completely different from your own 2–3 bedroom house. Because of these factors, the construction costs will also differ.

Check this budget estimated cost.

234GT:
Cost of finishing is what brings huge differences in estimates. People put a lot of unnecessary things in buildings to show off.....eg , water heater in kitchen and bathroom, in a country where we dont have 8 hours electricity per day.....If you cut a lot of unnecessary items, you will save a lot of money......another moneypit is parapet and pop ceiling.....

I do not build with water heater, but I like my parapet and POP. Even if you remove that, you cannot complete a bungalow well built for N15m. I have no idea where people are getting this estimate. Cement is now N12,000 per bag hmmm

I do not understand how people get this N15m - N30m to build a house. Let us assume it is half a plot minus land.

You need to dig for foundation, then buy blocks, cement, rods and labour...if unlucky you may need to sandfill ...for a 3 bedroom ensuite, that will easily cost N3m -N4m

Then the Building ...Blocks, Cement and Labour plus Rods will set you back almost N8m - N10m

Then you have Woods and Roofing...unless you are using low cost aluminum sheets....else, be ready to spend another N5m - N7m.

Then your plastering and wall smoothening...and tiles will easily set you back another N4m - N5m

You need to do fixtures, kitchen cabinets, bedroom wardrobes and accessories...will easily set you back another N3m - N5m

Then you dig soakaways, and do iron for tanks, gates and that will set you back another N1.5m - N2m

Then Exterior Doors and Interior Doors -- should set you back another N1.5m - N2m

Let us talking Electrical Work and Plumbing ...Set aside another N4m - N5m

Painting ...good paints and labour - N2m - N3m

Forgot the Aluminum windows, railings lol ...another N2m - N3m

Let us talk about POP - Just add another N3m - N5m for Labour and Materials

So when we are all said and done, expect about N37m - N52m to build a BUNGALOW. I am not sure how people are getting N15m.

samjades:
Hello house,

I’ve noticed many prospective homeowners and "Landlords-to-be" asking the same question every day: "How much will it cost to build a 3-bedroom bungalow in Nigeria right now?"

With the way cement and rod prices are fluctuating, it’s hard to get a straight answer. Some contractors will tell you ₦40M because they want to "chop" your money, while others will give you a lowball quote of ₦10M just to get the job, only for them to start asking for more money once they reach the lintel level.

From my recent research and current market trends, a standard 2-to-3 bedroom bungalow (roughly 120m² - 150m²) on a strip foundation is currently sitting between ₦15 Million and ₦30 Million for a standard finish. Of course, this changes if you are building in a swampy area (pile foundation) or using luxury Italian tiles.

I recently found a very useful tool that helps you calculate these costs based on your specific location and building type. It even lets you choose if you want the price for "Carcass only" or "Total Finishing."

You can check it out here to get a rough idea before you call your architect:

What I like about it is that it includes options for:

Building type (Bungalow vs Duplex)

Foundation choice (Strip, Raft, or Pile)

Finish quality (Budget vs Luxury)

Currency selection (Naira, USD, etc.)

For those who have recently completed their decking or roofing, what are the current prices you’re seeing in your area? Let’s share experiences so we don’t get cheated by "Omo-onile" or dishonest site engineers.

Blessings to everyone trying to own their home this year!

I wrote there that all these happen abroad, but we do not lament about it. It is in Nigeria that we scream blood Jesus when we have to wait, when someone is asking for tips and so on. Let us do the Math. Let's say you are paying an average of N1.2m per month and you get electricity 24hrs a day, 30 days a month. Per day, your electricity charge will be N40,000 per day...and per hour, it will be N1,667 per hour. Now Band A are charged N200 - N240 per KWH so let us use N240, which means you are consuming 6.9KW/hr and that is 6900 Watts per hour. That is equivalent to running 5-6 AC units per hour continuously for 24hrs for 30 days. That must be the bill for an hotel or AirBnB.

Oga, email me your electricity bill. You must be running a factory. I still load electricity for my tenants common meter and they use less than N40k to pump water and light the surroundings all year round ...a building of 8 flats. Even my Mama cannot use N10k per month, so what appliances do you have running that you are using N1m per month.

You talk about fuel price. It is internationally traded commodity. It wont change from country to country. How many people no get cars for western countries...cos they cannot afford it. People like a little at a time in Nigeria...guess what, it happens here too. You talk about minimum wage...try living on US $7.25 per hour...You wont even be able to pay rent...forget everything else. Govt subsidies sustain a lot of people in the West.

No one is saying Nigeria is perfect and you cannot compare Nigeria of how many years old to countries that are 250-300yrs old. I see growth even if I stay for a max of 2 months. Yes, you need money to live and enjoy in Nigeria...same thing in the West which is why some work 2-3 jobs. Before you say it is not possible in Nigeria, I know a friend that installs solar, buy Garri in Bulk, repackages and sell and makes good money as side hustle. I know those that tutor in Nigeria which I was doing before i traveled and I know people making N400k - N500k plus per month and still doubles as agents selling landed properties and houses making money in the same Nigeria. We can lament, but lamentations will not solve our individual lives and the choices we make or choose not to make. Email me that electric bill lol ....idagbaempowermentfoundation@gmail.com

nedekid:
Oga, let me burst your bubble, my electricity bill here in naija averages 1m + monthly which is well over $700, how much is minimum wage in Nigeria compared to the US? And yes your electricity will automatically shut off if it is not paid for. Solar is not cheap, in the US you can get financing for solar, here you buy it. Solar above a certain capacity is outrageously expensive, how much will solar cost to cover the capacity of Eg a 80kva generator, you probably will spend at least 80m.
Fuel is 1350 per liter and higher in other states which is $1 per liter, how much is fuel in the US per liter, just a little higher, look at the attached to see the comparison.
Yes people come for dirty December, come into the country for a week, do good time and leave, that is how holiday all over the world is, does it expose you to the reality on ground, no. Same way we will save here in naija, fly abroad for 2 weeks vacation, stay in the high end hotels apartments, live a fairytale life for the few days, infact you friends there will say chai, naija must be good for you to come and chop life in this kind of place they have not entered in all the donkey years spent abroad, but only us know say na wash.
