The magnitude of the event that took place yesterday sent a serious message to our detractors, and as expected, they will react!

Biafrans spoke with one voice. The whole world saw that the likes of Charly boy and Yorubakwe are but insignificant minorities. The majority of Biafrans want Biafra.

I use to have a learned friend who use to be antagonistic to this Biafra movement, citing the Nigerian propaganda that Igbos can't speak with one voice, he felt that when push comes to shove, that we wouldn't be able to stand as one.

But what he saw Yesterday surprised him. From Owerri to Onitsha to Abakaliki to Enugu to Asaba, etc,the result was the same. Biafrans showed that we value nationhood and freedom more than money( business), that we are more than capable of rising above the petty things that divides us, to hold unto the things that unite us all.
And this realization dawned on him. He made a very long post on facebook yesterday declaring his support for the Biafran struggle to the anger of his numerous Arewa-Odua friends.

This is the truth, all a movement needs is a fire, a pressure, that is well nurtured and made to grow. And then, it's only a matter of time before it sucks in all that are within its vicinity. Ipob and Kanu, no matter how unconventional we think their methods are, have done this.

The longer this struggle goes, the more converts we get, the less naysayers we have. Until all that is left are those amongst us, whose very existence and sustenance depends solely on parasitic attachment to Nigeria as an entity.

And I assure you, these ones are minute minority in our midst, easily disarmed by our sheer numbers and power alone.

Its a good time to be Biafran. Truly, the labour of our heroes past, must never be in vain.

I am (and I believe many minorities groups' leaders are) open to the idea of a coalition of SS and SE in the struggle to liberate the regions from the Northern oligarchy that haunts us all. A coalition that will be discussed and all bodies will agree to terms. Until such a coalition is achieved, it is important that Igbos generally remove non-Igbos from the agitation, so as not to be seen in a wrong light.

I subscribe to the idea of a round table talk between the SS and SE. Like many of you have argued, minorities may have to take a ride with the Igbo agitation in order to push their own interest. But this must be on their terms, not the other way around. I just wish there are some forward thinking and liberal Igbo leaders who would be willing to invite the SS leaders and even Middle Belt leaders for a serious discussion on the state of the nation and the way forward. Whether or not they want to secede, the minorities can combine interests with Igbo to push their demands.

The Igbo also has to be sincere in this and show some form of trustworthiness (not implying that Igbos aren't trustworthy). What I mean here is that Igbos have to be open in its dealings with the minorities. Many of us from minority groups do not differentiate the Igbos, Yorubas and Hausas when it comes to marginalisation. We see all the majority groups as one and same. This is why Igbos must be careful with the kind of words they use especially when minorities are involved. When some Igbos go around saying the SS is Igbo or Biafran territory or anything that appears to be threatening the freedom and will of the SSners, bad blood is built. In the defence of Igbos however, many of those saying things like this are myopic and think there are only three groups in Nigeria (thus anyone who is not Hausa or Yoruba is Igbo. Yorubas and Hausas are also guilty of this too). Others must call them out when they go around spreading false propaganda. These propagandas weaken the will of the minorities when they see them.

That said, I believe SS can work with SE if the SEners can take the initiative, be more open-minded and liberal and finally tone down the hate speech (even though we know Igbos get them too) but if everyone is hurling words at each other, what would we achieve?
