Religion / Re: Pastor Kumuyi And The Limousine Ride, Why Religion Needs Civilization by Maworry22: 1:24pm On Sep 26, 2021
Maybe you only read part and left the rest.
The article is talking about doctrines people inserted into religion because of emotional feelings. They go against some things because they feel that is how it should be though not written in the bible.
For example, the same Deeper Life that sees technology as evil tool is using it now to propagate the gospel

'We are in the world but not of the world', therefore though some things may seems of this world but we can use same thing in the world to the glory of God

Kobojunkie:
Who wrote this bullsheet! undecided

The Gospel, God's New Covenant Law, as taught by Jesus Christ has not changed - not a dot of the Word of God has changed - in the last 2000 years. Jesus Christ's teachings never set His followers against civilization or technology to begin with. He didn't even send His followers to fight against the world nor stand against them. undecided

But because this Kumuyi's doctrines flips with the times, Christians should also flip with the times? Is this a joke? Or is this some reporter error of some sort? undecided
Religion / Pastor Kumuyi And The Limousine Ride, Why Religion Needs Civilization by Maworry22: 12:59am On Sep 25, 2021
The founder of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor William Kumuyi during the week arrived in Abuja for a 10-day crusade tagged Divine Solution.

To the surprise of many, the reverend man of God and his wife were seen to have arrived with private jet while waiting right at the tarmac was a white stretch limousine, that took the couple into town. The man of God and his wife were heartly welcomed by members of the church with sounds of music and jubilation.

The recent show of wealth and exotic wordly materials by Kumuyi has once again laid credence to the fact the religion is practised by time while civilization also plays a role.

Once upon a time, the church is known to frown at the use of exotic things which they termed worldly and to the extent that the use of television was seen as allowing a devil's box in someone's house but recently, the church has moved away from the past doctrines and principles to embrace the reality on ground that civilization and technology are tools needed to properly propagate the gospel of christ.

Jesus Christ exercise royalty in the bible Matthew 21:1–11 during the triumphant entry, ''As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples,  saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.”

People have argued that if it was this period of time, Jesus could have also used Jet.

While there are bad sides of civilization and technology, we can as well pick the good side as christians to influence our world. While there was no speaker and microphones during the time of Jesus, we are all using it today in all our gatherings to communicate to the world and that did not stop those having worldly parties from using it too.

As Pastor Kumuyi has spoken silently against previous doctrines, it's important for christians and denominations to sit down and check the old doctrines they are practising to know which one was inserted through human emotions and make the right adjustment

Let it be known that religion, civilisation and technology will always work together

The Deeper Life crusade at the Papal Ground, Kubwa, will begin on 24 September and end 3 October.

Apart from Kumuyi, other officiating ministers are Nathaniel Bassey and Ron Kenoly.

Romance / What is Next After Weddidng? by Maworry22: 8:32pm On Apr 07, 2021
Please, I have been having a personal thought with this issue of marriage and what is next after two people have been declared husband and wife. So I ask: What is next after Wedding?

Before thinking much, I know most of the people reading this, including you, might have said it is a “child” before thinking of other things.
Yes, children are blessings in marriage. In fact, children are regarded as fruits of marriage and this is to show how significant children are the union.
In Nigeria, the pressure of getting married especially for the ladies is more than what some can withstand and this has made many people choose wrongly and regretting it. Marriage they say is sweet until you realize you’ve picked the wrong one, and then you experience hell on earth.
In another way, the pressure of getting married cannot be compared to the pressure of expecting a child 9 months after marriage. No thanks to the parents who are always eager to become grandparents. “ it is 12 months after you got married, what is happening?’’ they would ask.
Shade got married 12 months ago and after 9 months she got a baby. Titi got married 2 years ago but has not had a child.

The latter though didn’t complain, her mother couldn’t imagine her child married for 2 years without a child so she would keep calling her to hasten her husband to make things happen. The bigger pressure is the one from Titi’s mother-in-law; she has already been tagged infertile.
In these two contexts, there are things we need to know and it’s about individual differences, what they desire and what they want.

Shade had a baby just 9 months after her wedding and she is having a happy family and Titi who got married 2 years ago without a child is also happy with her husband but because people think on her behalf, they think she needs one so they keep pressuring her and interceding for her without her consent. Most times the pressure to get a child immediately after the wedding by the parents is for selfish gain; they want to become grandparents.

After the wedding, we should be able to ask the question of what do they really want. Some married because they need a soul mate and confidant not because they need a child immediately after wedding, they don’t want to be lonely and believe getting married will make them focused and together achieve more but outsiders don’t see this bigger picture.

In Africa or Nigeria to be precise, there is always a pressure to have a child within a year after marriage. In fact, they begin to check the tummy of the woman expecting to see a baby bump but we forget to ask what the people want. Are they happy with it or we think they are not happy with it?
Some couples got married within 6 months of meeting each other. They never slept in the same room to know who snores during sleep, they have not eaten together to know who doesn’t have table manners, they have not really known themselves and while the marriage affords them to be close and know each other more, bringing third party would definitely affect the way they live if not properly managed.

While I understand no marriage is perfect, even those who have been married for 10 years still have disagreements, we still need to understand that we can’t expect everyone to think the way we do. Marriage is about agreement and until we understand that why two people come together to get married is beyond having children instantly, we would continue to sow a seed of discord between the two.

So I ask again, What is Next After Wedding?

Agriculture / Experts Proffer Solutions To Improve Food Production Through Cold Chain, Subsidy by Maworry22: 6:21pm On Dec 08, 2020
Agricultural experts have come together to put forward a lasting solution to the low supply of food and loss of agricultural produce due to lack of solid cold chain practice in Nigeria.

The call was made during the 8th Annual Conference of the Brand Journalists’ Association of Nigeria which was held recently at Sojourner By Genesis Hotel, GRA Ikeja. with the theme Consolidating Nigeria’s Agricultural Revolution: Challenges, Opportunities and Lessons

While declaring the event opened, the president of BJAN, Princewill Ekwujuru said the body decided to shift slightly from core issues in the world of brands and marketing to an area the association felt it can stir up the possibility of jump-starting the much desired industrialization Nigeria needs, for her economic development, especially in this times of recession.

In Ekujuru’s words, “Our focus on Agriculture this year is motivated by the passion to deepen discussions in an area we believe can extensively provide answers to the endless calls for the diversification of our economy and create big brands across all touch-points of its long value chain.

Speaking on the importance of cold chain system, Mr Tunde Okoya, president, Organisation of Technology Advancement of Cold Chain West Africa OTACCWA in his presentation titled Developing Blue Print for Advancement of Cold Chain in Nigeria outlined the reasons why cold chain is the escape route to the loss of food production and wastage in Nigeria.

According to him, over 15 million metric tons of Nigeria perishable farms produces are lost annually due to poor logistics infrastructure and high cost of transportation which leads to spoilage. He maintained that cold chain which is a series of action apply to maintain produce within a specific low temperature range from harvest to consumption is one of the reasons his organisation, OTACWAS is established to reduce post harvests loss, poor nutrition, poor hygiene and poor food safety. He added that over 14 million malnutrition children are in Nigeria due to poor food hygiene and safety

In his words. “According to FAO, post-harvest loss of many agric product in Nigeria could be as high as 50% so invariably, a lot of production by our farmer goes into waste along the value chain and that cannot be a very productive way for any country. So, the result of this is poor earnings for the farmers, poor nutrition for the children, and poor hygiene for the country. Nigeria is ranked 98 out of 107 countries in the global hunger index majorly because of this.

“The problem is that, even though we are producing a lot, a large percentage of the production is going into waste. With an effective cold chain policy, Agriculture in Nigeria will soar to greater heights”.

He said with the availability of cold chain, there will be reduction on post harvest loss, good earnings by farmers, increase in food nutrition and food safety.

Also speaking at the event, Mr Segun Atho, National Deputy President, Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria said that farmers in Nigeria are facing lot of difficulties either from the government or the community. In his words, ‘’This year is another disaster in history. From Coronavirus to bandit, we are facing a lot of challenges’’. He added that farmers have ran away from the farm due to insecurity especially in the northern part of the country where bandits are requesting money from farmers before they harvest their produce.

Mr Atho who was displeased with some government policies said government are mostly concerned about data without implementation,. ‘’it is time Nigeria move away from data presentation to proper workshop, enough of paper works’’ he said.

He called on the government to involve farmers in making their policies, give farmers access to finance and help in production technologies.

Also commenting, Mr. Sakin Agbeyewa, Deputy Chairman of Lagos state All Farmers Association of Nigeria, who represented his chairman Femi Oke stressed that Nigeria’s agricultural sector needs a lot of subsidy, not just in form of cash to farmers but through the provision of a conducive atmosphere.

In his words, “The subsidy we are calling for is not in form of cash to our members. The subsidy we want is ready- to- plant lands. By clearing bush for our members, by helping us interface with all types of land owners who gather to disturb during planting and harvesting period. In the northern part, farmers are being preventing from going to farms to harvest their crops by terrorists that are forcing them to heavy dues for them to access their farms products, subsidy is also in form of provision of bulldozers for land, swamp-dozers for swampy areas, provision of food preservers for perishable products.”

On the issue of bother closure, Mr Sakin said it wasn’t the right time for the government to open the border when Nigeria farmers have invested heavily on planting their product which will spell doom for them because of prize war with imported rice produce. He advised the government to protect the local people even if the border is opened.

He maintained that agriculture is a multi-million dollar investment if the government focus on it.

Another speaker, Mr Richard Mark Mbaram, Senior Special Adviser to Minister of Agriculture on Communication called on journalists to hold government accountable to the citizenry.

Mbaram speaking through a representative,Mr Steve Ogboko said there is need to challenge government policies which they have made but not put into practise. He wondered why media practitioners often accept things without making efforts to get into details of such announcements in order to make government stand firm on their policies.

Describing Anchor Borrower programme introduced by Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as one of the programmes which journalists should bring their interrogative minds to bear, he reminded journalists that the general public often rely on what journalists feed them.

He said, “most of those programmes on agricultural developments are only heard on pages of newspapers or on the television screens while the direct farmers are not aware of such funds or any subsidy released for farmers.

“Who are the people that benefited from all those things announced by government for farmers?” he asked.

The 2020 conference which was the first hybrid event by BJAN was moderated by Kayode Olagesin, Managing Director/CEO, TownCriers Ltd.

Also at the event, awards were given to deserving brands and individuals who have contributed to the growth and development of the marketing communications industry

Nairaland / General / Atunya, Businessday Editor’s ‘parting Shot’, Publisher Keeps Mum Despite Damagin by Maworry22: 5:50pm On Dec 08, 2020
A series of frontal allegations and damaging comments published by the departing editor of BusinessDay, Patrick Atuanya who resigned his appointment with the media company effective November 30, 2020, may create a web of complex crisis for the leading Nigeria’s business and financial publication.

The departing editor alleges corporate malpractice and inept management against his employers. According to Atuanya in his “Parting shot” to his editorial team members at BusinessDay shared on the staff WhatsApp group platform, “the spirit of #EndSARS which is a fight against injustice, corruption and an older generation who relishes putting their feet on the neck of the young, must compel me to let our young reporters know a few truths”.

Atuanya who has put in a total of nine years with the company, rose through the ranks, got to the peak of his career in January 2019 when he was appointed editor of the publication.

Although Atuanya could not be immediately reached, the staff of the company we spoke with Media Careerng.org confirmed reading about the editor’s resignation which they said caught them unawares.

“It was shocking and sad to read about his resignation and the allegations he made. He was indeed a very hard-working editor who is always looking out for reporters. He will be greatly missed,” a staff who prefers to be anonymous told Media Career.

In a bid to balance the story, consistent efforts by BrandCrunch to speak with the Publisher, Mr. Frank Aigbogun as regards Atuanya’s damaging allegations, proved abortive.

For instance the first text message sent to his MTN line on Wednesday night read, “Good evening sir. My name is Lekan Babatunde , I cover Media & Marketing. Just want to get a bit of your take on your Editor, Atuanya’s resignation and the series of allegations he levelled against the management. Please, excuse my barging in on you this evening. Professionalism demands I don’t publish a one sided story. Thank you for your understanding”.

Similarly, a call was placed to the same line on Thursday afternoon. This was also followed up with another text message which is also reproduced below.

“Good afternoon, Publisher. Just called your line but it rang out. Just to follow up on the text message I sent to you yesterday as regards Atuanya’s accusations which are antithetical to the Frank Aigbogun we know. If would like me to call you again let me know. Or you could respond through text message”.

As of the time of filing this report, the Publisher was yet to respond to our messages and phone call.

According to findings, while the BusinessDay management is yet to officially respond to Atunya’s weighty and frontal allegations, the deputy editor, Lolade Akinmurele has selected as the Acting Editor for the time being.

Atuanya’s resignation message is reproduced below as shared on the Business Day staff whatsApp platform.

PARTING SHOT

I have today resigned as the Editor of BusinessDay.

I began crafting this letter to my Editorial staff months ago however because I believe in the end that the spirit of #EndSARS which is a fight against injustice, corruption and an older generation who relishes putting their feet on the neck of the young, must compel me to let our young reporters know a few truths.

I have been here 9 years (since January 2012), in that time I have helped to build up BusinessDay into the brand that it is today.

Whether as, Head of the Analyst Desk, Chief Economist, Companies and Markets Editor, News Editor and finally Editor.

Publisher

If EndSARS had a picture you (the Publisher) would be the poster child to all that is wrong with Nigeria and how the older generation has arrogated themselves to power.

You recently had the audacity to tell your workers you don’t bring hope to them.

How could you though? As you can only give what you have. Fake piety, Love of money, greed, inability to manage your little business.

You owe the taxman and you owe your workers their rightful PENCOM PENSIONS, stealing from their future and breaking the law shamelessly.

When last did you remit workers’ Pensions … Howafter deducting it from their salaries?

Do you know that is a Federal crime?

How much is taken from the company on a weekly basis in the form of dividends?

Are the Board of Directors aware of this? Yours is the only company that I have ever seen that pays a weekly dividend to its CEO, again it is the symptom of a bankrupt moral code that exists deep in you.

70 – 80 per cent of your workers and managers would leave today if they could.

Many are actively looking for another job as we speak and you can’t recognize the crises you face but instead choose to continually chase shadows.

You and the MD a failed economic adviser to GEJ, that ran a failed economic consulting firm) are running a failing ship but are too blind to see.

The leaders of Rome too were feeding fat just until it was sacked by Vandals and Germanic tribes.

The Roman emperors lived fat while the citizens had little. You are now an emperor without clothes, not realizing the rot and the sandcastle you have built will collapse any minute.

I wish you both Good luck because you are going to need it.

You both have destroyed whatever sense of camaraderie left in the company.

Your MD goes from department to department sowing confusion like one who is sad when things are peaceful and smooth.

Frank (Publisher) you harass your female employees on a daily basis to the point that you make them cry, in the process ensuring a toxic work environment.

You come on our editorial platform and bully your workers.

That is a very cowardly act and I have called you out on this face to face in July 2020, in the presence of Deola and the so-called MD.

I told you to point-blank that this must stop and offered to resign back then (July 2020). I have our WhatsApp conversations saved and stored so you cannot deny this.

In Editorial you appointed a clearly unqualified person as Deputy Editor and in the process sowed great discontent among the Newsroom staff all across the country.

You made the decision without consulting me.

That is how low you have sunk as you seek imaginary friends and allies to fight imaginary battles with your Editor.

TAYO

Tayo called me on September 27, 2020 to tell me you (Frank) have been speaking with him regarding him becoming Editor from January.

I laughed and reminded him that I will be leaving in December or January like I had earlier informed him (in confidence), plus he has been here for long (on and off before me) and will do well to make his own decision on the matter as I am not in a position to advise him on it.

But a curious thing is that Tayo just resigned earlier this year. That is how confused you guys have become in your battle to get rid of me.

It’s so funny Frank.

Perhaps the best way to get to the top in BusinessDay is to RESIGN like your Deputy Editor and Editor (Tayo) have now done and then get rewarded with a higher position.

Maybe I will come back as MD in 2 years with my own resignation (Not in your life though).

You seek that which you can control, which is what has brought you to this sorry pass. 4 Editors (Phillip, Osae-Brown, Patrick, Tayo) in 5 years, and the turnover will continue as I cannot see Tayo lasting more than 2 years with you before as usual you turn on him.

EDITORIAL

For my editorial staff I am leaving behind I urge you if you are young (20 – 40) to seek your future elsewhere as this is one of the worst companies you can ever work for.

I reached the Zenith of my media career at the age of 39 as Editor so there is frankly nothing else for me here.

For those of you left behind though know that there is no plan, the company is so badly run that it has zero reserves.

After 20 years, salaries are still being paid only when Advert can bring money in.

The Publisher (and not the figurehead MD) is the one in control and usually takes away all money that flows into the company.

It is a sad state of affairs. That is why you don’t have a Staff bus for workers, why your Pensions are not remitted and why many have not been promoted for 20 years.

There are many factors of production, land, capital, labor, plant and equipment, etc, however in an intellectual property sector like the media labour is the most important factor.

However, in BusinessDay the morale of the labour (especially in Editorial) has been reduced to zero by mindless politics.

The person that was made Deputy Editor is highly reviled by 99 percent of the editorial staff.

That is the reality and they are unhappy because the said person is highly unqualified for that role.

It is a big joke and you the Publisher are the one to take sole responsibility for this decision done without consulting me.

The yes man MD may or may not have conveyed my opposition to the appointment to the Publisher, but I told him bluntly in the presence of Deola (HR) that it was a wrong move.

After 10 years in BD I know my people, I know who is good and bad, who has leadership skills and who is a disruptive element.

Furthermore, my experience in living and working on two continents (North America and Africa) has given me the insight on markets, people and so on.

You coming have a major crisis on your hands, it is really unfortunate.

But here is some friendly advice.

BusinessDay needs to begin to remit the pensions you deduct from the salaries of your workers.

It is a crime in Nigeria not to do so, but more importantly it is morally reprehensible.

These young people that work for you largely own no homes, no cars, no stock, nothing.

The only thing they can accumulate right now is their Pensions which hopefully in 10 years would have compounded handsomely.

But not remitting is stealing from their future while they slave away for you today.

Improve your worker’s welfare, set up a housing scheme for which they can benefit, have staff busses, stop favoritism and nepotism.

Finally, I will tell you that if you die today BusinessDay will come to an end. It will be sad but that is how you have chosen to run the organization.

Nobody has any allegiance to BusinessDay.

Go back to promises you made to your pioneer staff.

How many have you fulfilled. Where are they today? Do you think any young staff in BusinessDay dreams of a future there?

They all can’t wait to jump ship. It is a sad state of affairs.

Why is it so hard to make payroll monthly for a 20-year plus old company?

Why are there no remittances of Pension obligations to employee accounts even after deductions from payroll checks?

How can such a dishonest company ever hope to attract and retain top talent?

How many of my journalists have won awards after awards local and international on all subject matters, yet they are never respected but the bloggers at Nairametrics or upstarts at Stearns are constantly being held up as a false standard.

Let it be known that no other editor in Nigeria will take the constant harassment bothering on disrespect I receive from you The Publisher.

As Editor I am expected to run around chasing digital subscribers, what happened to the Customer Acquisition Specialist hired and paid big sums of money monthly?

The Publisher will disrespect me the Editor in the midst of my Juniors and subordinate’s and thinks he is scoring points not knowing he is damaging the company as most people don’t expect that kind of behavior from a so called Publisher.

The dysfunction engineered by the Publisher, MD and lack of company structure, culture and systems at BusinessDay has ensured that there is an inability to hold down talent young or old, to the extent that the company is now a revolving door for hiring jobless people, people looking to make a quick buck and leave, people that have resigned in the past and looking to come make some more quick money (Tayo, MD etc) and leave and so on.

Nobody will say with a straight face they are trying to build a career in BusinessDay.

That is the tragedy of a Nigerian run one-man business.

I hear that when BD South Africa ran the place it was much better structured and run.

I don’t know cause I wasn’t there but I guess that is food for thought for those like the MD whose goal is to play politics with everything with one eye on only how to please the ‘Oga.’

Institutions are not built in Nigeria, because nobody has the courage to tell the truth to power.

Everyone cowers and looks at their own personal bottomlines.

I am proud in writing this letter that I have told the company some hard truths in addition to the message I personally told the Publisher over the past 7 months’ even if I doubt that anything will change.

The problem with businessDay is that it seeks to be a Financial Times, but is no better run and managed than a Motor Park Garage.

Since 2018 I have lost over 15 Reporters and Analysts (all of whom I personally trained) to the dysfunction.

I will name those I can remember.

Emeka ucheaga 2. Segun Adams 3. Fikayo Owoeye 4. Segun Olanikoyekon 5. Israel Odubola 6. Sobe Eze 7. Cynthia 8. Oghogho 9. David Ibidapo 10. Phd Economist guy 11. Olalekan Ipele 12. Watemi Ethel
Going a bit futher (2016) analysts I trained that left include 13. Yinka Abraham, 14. Dozie Ifebi 15. Daniel Ojabo.

The reporters and analysts were all personally trained and mentored by me as a News Editor and were supposed to be the future of BusinessDay.

Why did they leave? Because they saw an organization without structure or culture of professionalism.

Late salaries. Lack of Pension deductions being remitted and so on.

There has to be soul searching on why the brand can attract talent but cannot retain them.

It is largely because we sell a good façade outside but once they come inside they notice it is quite a dysfunctional place to work.

If you add the research (BRIU) of which I had begun to get to work closely with editorial (for instance I was the head of the team of Editorial and BRIU analysts that authored the first and only MTN pre-IPO research by any media house or investment firm), then the turnover of young people is even more alarming as everyone (Balkisu, Uju, etc) that worked with me and Innocent (then head of BRIU) on the MTN project have all resigned from BRIU.

The Publisher of such an organization should go beyond shouting at reporters and know that this is a failure from his part and of his doing.

The publisher and MD to a smaller extent have enshrined a culture of politics, managers being sidelined in key decisions being made, poor or zero communication, no structure or professional culture, greed, no employee welfare, favoritism, complete collapse of morale across the organization, mismanagement of resources etc.

Take my case for instance. 2020 will make it 9 years I have worked in BusinessDay rising to the top.

I have poured my soul into this work since joining first as an analyst in 2012, then Chief economist, Companies Editor, News Editor and finally Editor.

The position of Editor is the height of one’s career in a media organization.

It is equivalent to being an MD/ED in a bank or GM.

However, despite this I have less than N1.5 million remitted as Pension contributions.

My calculations (which my lawyers and accountants will be sending in) shows a minimum of N25 million due which has been deducted and not remitted including the mandatory 12% for employers and unrealized capital gains (18% per annum).

It is imperative for the organization which I have given 10 years of my time to immediately settle all entitlements due me to avoid any embarrassing situation for its carefully built up facade.

For instance, it is in fact the law in Nigeria that no firm that violates the PENCOM act shall benefit from any contract with the Federal Government.

Yet BusinessDay has benefitted to the tune of over N80 million from numerous contracts from the CBN.

It has also benefited from contracts from various Ministries Departments and Agencies of the FG.

With many proposals lying in Abuja as we speak. It is immoral that these Government funds are funding the profligate lifestyle of insiders at the helm of the company while the Pensions of workers are not paid.

There are other troubling issues of tax evasion, auditing of the books and so on, however like I said earlier it will be unfortunate if these issues get into the public domain or social media.

Once again to all my reporters I leave behind. You have the assurances of my highest regard.

Sincerely

Patrick Atuanya

Nairaland / General / I Can’t Breathe! A Collective Call For Help by Maworry22: 5:27pm On Jun 09, 2020
Somebody should help me call the police, a man is being held down by some armed men and he’s struggling for his life; he can’t breathe. Oh sorry, I can’t call the police because it’s the police that is strangling the victim. I can’t call cops on a cop.

I watched with saddened heart the struggle till death of George Floyd days ago as a Minneapolis cop strangled him with his kneel and gazed comfortably as the man begged for just a space to breath till he lost his life. Sad!

If you know how hard it could be for someone to die in such a circumstance, use your hand to block your nostrils just for a minute as see how your body would forget all your worries but ask for just a breath for survival.

The murder of George Floyd has sparked protests around the world, with many calling Floyd an HERO even in death because through him, there seems to be light to the revolution in the treatment of Blacks. However, beyond racism which was considered the cause of Floyd’s death, we have many things to contend with as human and until then, most protests will only be vicious cycle.

Injustice anywhere is threat to justice everywhere. Police brutality isn’t just about countries now, it’s everywhere whether an organised society or not.

This is what Nigeria experience almost daily and when this happened, we would be quick to say it can’t happen in sane society but alas no one seems to be sane anymore. Just the same week of George Floyd’s death, a stray bullet by a power drunk police officer killed a 17-year-old girl, identified as Tina Ezekwe, in Lagos state.

What is the problem? Human nature is the same everywhere; black or white. The position of authority boosts their ego, they show their innate desire to dominate and rule and when the law is on their side, they can be more vicious and ferocious. A vivid examples showed by the Minneapolis cops and their counterparts in the Nigeria police force.

As all humans have the inherent desire to go against the law or engage in social delinquency just for their selfish craving, it is in the purview of rules, regulations and laws to checkmate them.

In another scenario, I was watching people in Nigeria went on protest, carrying placards in solidarity for the black lives matter movement in US. In as much as I see this as a brilliant idea to fight against racism in other countries, I can also say most people are just hypocrites or just doing that to chase clout.

Some days ago, the Ondo State governor appointed a lady from Imo State, Ngozi Ugochi as a Special Assistant on Gender, Research and Documentation but it was followed by hue and cry that it was wrong for the governor to appoint someone outside the state to enjoy the state benefit. Alas! This happened inside the same country but we’re quick to shout racism.

How many Yorubas have enjoyed political benefits in the north or how many Igbos have been given equal opportunities in the north?

I can’t breathe! This thing is suffocating me, it’s making me fell like an outcast in my country. In Nigeria, it is tribalism, in America it’s racism. What is the difference?

I can’t breathe! I need help, my parents do not want me to marry outside my tribe. I can’t breathe! My Hausa landlord do not want Igbo in his compound. Please I can’t breathe, the only job I can get as an Hausa man in an Igbo company is gateman.

God created human race but human created racism, He created tribes but we generated tribalism.

I can’t breathe!

If nothing is done, we may all be suffocated with hatred…

Nairaland / General / We Are All Casualties by Maworry22: 9:39am On Feb 04, 2020
Because I didn’t witness the Nigerian civil war (1967-1970), I wasn’t able to get the clear picture J.P Clark was trying to depict in his poem, The Casualties which I read as part of my literature poems in secondary school. With all the explanation by my teacher, I was still doubtful but little did I know that what is more than civil but heinous war will ensue in this same country and I will be able to have an undiluted experience that will paint the picture of death, hunger and insecurity the civil war brought.

While the poem was telling us the effect of the war, it didn’t sound real to me because I was only imagining the event that I didn’t witness. The poet talked about how people died while those who buried others were also waiting for death to strike them because it would always come unexpected, how lives and properties were destroyed and people left with kwashiorkor.

The first four lines of the poem say “The casualties are not only those who are dead. They are well out of it. The casualties are not only those who are dead. Though they await burial by installment.“

Our nation is in total chaos and comatose, drifting to the edge of a deep pit. It will be hypocritical to keep shut and say nothing is happening or we should say it’s the problem of the north and not the east or west just because of religious or political affiliations.

If you had not lost anyone directly to the insurgency ravaging the country, you probably could have heard of story from someone who knows somebody who had had his share of it
This problem recently became the bedrock of the prayer walk embarked by RCCG, led by Pastor E.A Adeboye, telling the government that every life count because none of us can sleep with two eyes closed. This shows that everyone is affected regardless of political or religious affiliations

The inhuman and gruesome killings have become bothersome and incommodious. I wake up every day with the fear of reading any blood shedding related news and if I see one; my heart would bleed and weep for the country. Neither the rich nor the poor is safe, whether you are religious or chronic atheist, your life isn’t guaranteed. Gone are those days when we say the rich are protected, everyone now walks with precarious life just because of the insensitivity of our government. We are casualties.

Herdsmen killing, kidnapping, bombing, now become a regular story in our dailies. The security of the country is threatened everyday without hope of recovering or grease to soothe our pains. Indeed we are all casualties.

We can’t forget Leah Sharibu who was recently confirmed to have a baby at the Boko Haram camp, the gruesome killing of CAN Chairman in Adamawa, the killings of abducted seminaries in Kaduna and more.

The insecurity problem facing the country can only be the blame of the government and government alone. The first duty of government is to provide security for its citizenry and to protect against internal and external aggression but Nigeria is missing it.

Just like the poet added, “the drums overwhelm the guns…Caught in the clash of counterclaims and charges…” Instead of our government to come out and accept responsibility and provide a solution, they will, however, come with lengthy letters sympathizing with Nigeria with frail promise of finding a solution to the killings.

Even if we are to all leave this country, the lackadaisical action of our government towards security and other issues has made a country blacklisted Nigerian from seeking solace.

Its high time government woke up from slumber and savages the country from sinking in this deep ocean of insecurity.

We are all casualties already, kindly relief our pains

Nairaland / General / We Are All Marlians by Maworry22: 1:09am On Jan 30, 2020
Days ago, I put up a clue online, asking if it's possible to be a good Marlian. Coincidentally, the entire responses showed that dirty bottle cannot produce good wine; a bad seed cannot bring out good fruits.

The Marlian is a movement championed by a Nigerian hip hop artist Azeez Fashola known as Naira Marley with a mission to deviate from the social standard, creating new trends and ready to defile the norms.

But what are we going to do? The menace of Marlians is sweeping away our morals and ethics. Our children and youths are now lost in the euphoria of being Marlian and never responding to the call of societal values again.

If you have been oblivious to the new trend or what Marlians are, these are some of the characteristics.

1. Marlian don't use belt: this really got me, as they say, Marlians use 1000 trousers no belt. You are not loyal if you have a job interview and you use belt.

2. Weed Addicted: you must be a heavy smoker; the leader once called himself igbolabi (Born to Smoke)

3. MAFO: this slang means never afraid of anything.

4. No manners: Marlians are to deform the rules and regulations, you're to be rude. You're to climb the fence even though the door is opened else you're not a good Marlian.
All these may sound strange but it’s what we see every day in our society which someone now made popular through a movement, using music as a tool and media as the channel to influence the youth. In fact, the Marlian movement has been in the society for long.

Who is at fault? The purveyor of Marlian movement? The followers? The media as the channel or the society?

Years ago, I was listening to a debate on a TV station where two people were debating on Societal Decadence, The Fault of Parents or the Media? After various arguments in support and against the topic, one of the speakers finally said “the society cannot teach you anything good, it's the duty of the family to bring up a child in the right way". This submission really struck me and I continued to ponder on it.

The society is polluted and there is no iota of good things out there to tap if you're not really fortified with morals and serious home training. The media is a conveyor belt, pushing what is already in the society that hibernates or shrouded. It's just a channel to elaborate the hidden and covert societal decadence to the world. Therefore, the media has little or no fault in the lost of societal values because it doesn’t create but only activates.

Pause! Let’s think of this. Is society an isolated formation? No. Society exists only as a mental concept; in the real world, there are only individuals. The combinations of families become a society, therefore, we can say that moral decadence is a product of poor family upbringing which spreads like a virus.

Nobody fell from above, we all came from one family but the family has relegated its duty to the larger society and because it’s easy to pollute than to purify, the bad suppresses the good.

Family has the larger blame for the societal ills.

As for me, I have burnt my Marlian uniform, now wearing “Churchian” regalia

Foreign Affairs / Donald Trump Calls Justin Trudeau “two-faced” For Mocking Him by Maworry22: 5:41pm On Dec 04, 2019
Donald Trump has cancelled his final press conference at the NATO summit in Britain and stormed home after Boris Johnson, Emmanuel Macron and Justin Trudeau were caught on a hot mic mocking him.

The President had already slammed Trudeau as 'two-faced' on Wednesday after the Canadian Prime Minister, Macron and Johnson were caught on video at the Buckingham Palace NATO reception Tuesday evening, appearing to gossip about Trump.

Later in the day the President was caught on another hot mic bragging about his put-down of Trudeau. He said: 'That was funny when I said the guy's two-faced.'

Trump then tweeted about an hour later that he would leave the summit without holding a scheduled press conference, bringing an acrimonious end to the gathering that followed Macron's criticism of NATO as 'brain dead' and Turkish President Recep Erdogan's invasion of northern Syria.

In the video from the reception, which appears to be edited, Trudeau makes the most cutting comments, laughing about Trump's lengthy Q&A sessions with reporters and saying even the president's staff was shocked at some of his actions.

It shows PM Boris Johnson ask: 'Is that why you were late?' as he stoops down and chuckles in disbelief, before Canadian leader Trudeau, swigging from his drink, shoots back: 'He was late because he takes a 40 minute press conference off the top.'

The video then cuts to a later clip, which is without context, and sees Macron pointing furiously before Mr Rutte exclaims 'fake news media' and Trudeau adds: 'You just watched his team's jaws drop to the floor.' He then motions as if his jaw is dropping.

At the press conference today, Trudeau explained his remark about Trump's team jaw dropping was at the president's announcement next June's G7 meeting, which will be hosted by the United States, will be held at Camp David.

'We were all surprised and I think pleased to learn that the next G7 will be at Camp David. I think that was an unscheduled announcement and I think everyone's team, everyone different leader has teams that every now and then have their jaw drop at unscheduled surprises like that video itself for example,' Trudeau said.

He said that came up because his fellow G7 leaders wanted to know the details about their next gathering.

'As we talk to G7 leaders there is an interest in where the next G7 meeting is going to be and I was pleased to share with them the story of how that came about, that we are going to be gathering, apparently, at Camp David,' Trudeau said.

Trump today said during his meeting with Trudeau that next year's G7 meeting will be held at Camp David.

Originally Trump announced it would be held it at his Doral, Fla., golf course but he reversed that decision when even some Republicans criticized it as inappropriate.

'We'll do it at Camp David,' he said. 'It's nearby. It's close. We're going to give good access to the press. ... It will be at camp David which is a place that people like.'

.Trudeau repeated at his press conference Wednesday that he has a strong relationship with Trump.

'The relationship we have with United States is very strong and I have a very good relationship with President Trump and his team,' he said.
But the president did not look amused when reporters asked him about the hot mic video during his meeting with German chancellor Angela Merkel.

'Honestly with Trudeau, he's a nice guy,' the president added after a long pause.

He then explained his theory on why Trudeau said what he did, arguing the prime minister mocked him because he gave Trudeau grief during their sit down on Tuesday about Canada not paying enough in fees to be a member of the NATO alliance.

'I find him to be a very nice guy but you know the truth is that I called him out on the fact that he's not paying 2 per cent and I guess he's not very happy about it,' Trump said.

'He's not paying 2 per cent, and he should be paying 2 per cent. It's Canada. They have money. And they should be paying 2 per cent.

'So I called him out on that, and I'm sure he wasn't happy about that, but that's the way it is. Look, I'm representing the U.S. And he should be paying more than he's paying. And he understands it. So I can imagine he's not that happy. But that's the way it is,' he added.

The pair exchanged words at a photos session for NATO leaders on Wednesday morning but it is unclear what was discussed.

At their Tuesday meeting, Trump noted Canada is 'slightly delinquent' in its NATO payments but added: 'But they'll be okay. I have confidence.'

'When today's meetings are over, I will be heading back to Washington. We won't be doing a press conference at the close of NATO because we did so many over the past two days,' the president said.

Trump had lashed out at Justin Trudeau over video of his jocular discussion with Johnson, and Macron video filmed at a reception attended by The Queen and Kate Middleton at Buckingham Palace last night.

In the clip, Trudeau makes the most cutting comments, laughing about Trump's lengthy Q&A sessions with reporters and saying even the president's staff was shocked at some of his actions.

At a press conference today Trudeau wouldn't answer whether he apologized to the president for his remarks.

He said: 'Last night I made a reference to the fact that there was an unscheduled press conference before my meeting with President Trump and I was happy to take part of it. But it was certainly notable. I've had a number of a good conversations with the president over today and yesterday.'

Health / Meet Bose Okeowo, The Unorthodox Female Artist by Maworry22: 8:51pm On Nov 30, 2019
Sitting gently on a wheelchair in a corner of that compound that has become her studio, with a pencil beside the chair, Bose Okeowo though disable and confined in a wheelchair didn’t feel disturbed or inferior to others even with her inability to use her legs and hands like every other ones around her.

Incidentally, Bose is a self though artiste, whose ability is well beyond the average and she improves with every work she embarks upon. While short of the use of her legs and probably the fingers, she is usually full of smiles to welcome you to her world and studio especially when putting the usual finishing touch a work.

Born in Otun-Ekiti, Ekiti State in 1994 as the fourth child in the family of eight, Bose is the daughter of a school teacher (mother) now retired and a tailor dad. Like her older siblings at the time, and as teacher’s daughter, the dream of everyone around was that she’ll grow normal and attend school.

However, a few months after birth, the story took another turn. According to her, a rare birth issue began to manifest. Doctors said she has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), a genetic condition characterized by progressive weakening of voluntary muscles. This has kept her in a wheelchair like forever.

Much as the parents wanted and did try through a lot of difficulties to ensure she’s formally educated, the efforts were aborted as both parents and herself had to abandon the lofty but impossible idea as it became totally impracticable in Primary 2. The debilitating nature of the sickness put paid to the efforts.

However, people wouldn’t know Bose didn’t progress beyond Primary 2 in formal schooling. Her ability to read, write and communicate fluently in English language and solve mathematical calculations remains a wonder to many.

Strong willed and determined never to be a perennial liability, she began to lay the foundation for a productive life. “I am physically challenged and I don’t have the privilege to go to school because of my condition, but with the little, I can do and with help of my family I am able to read, write and communicate in the English language effectively.” She said with some dint of satisfaction in her voice.

In a society where some “able body and physically fit” become lazy and idle away, Bose despite her challenges, finds inspiration to be creatively productive and looks forward to contributing her quota to the society.

Like the popular axiom, “when life throws lemon at you, use them to make lemonade”, Bose wasn’t happy to stay alone at home whenever her siblings are off to school, most of whom are now graduates, she went ahead to learn bead making. Now with ease and so much dexterity, she makes bead bags, purse, shoes, flower vase and more.

In her words, “I have a very inquisitive personality which is always willing to learn and to acquire more knowledge”

As a proof of this, Bose, surprisingly is an artist, her deformed limbs notwithstanding! Hear her on her foray into the world of drawing and painting. “I fell in love with painting since I was young but the year 2010 was when I discovered I can truly paint and draw very well. At first, I was using crayon and watercolor to paint abstract and nature in my book and when my parents and siblings saw that I really have the talents, they support me and encourage me”

Within a few years, she develops so fast that she uses pencil to draw pictures and images to amazing standards. “I am always happy when I am making use of my talents in drawing and painting”.

Numerous works that litter Bose’s studio include portraits of Davido and Chioma, Dolapo Osinbajo, Dj Cuppy, Taraji P Henson and others.

Satisfied with her consistent progress and finding expression for her talents, Bose feels pained and sometimes depressed for lack of platform to showcase her talents. “I have done a lot of works but I don’t have the platform to show the world. Some have seen my good works and promised to help me but I didn’t hear from them again. I will be so glad if my work can go as far as it can, beyond my confine in Ekiti”

Bose who says she wants to be an inspiration to others, is a reflection of the truism, “there is an ability in every disability”. “I believe that there is always ability in every disability and there is a purpose for my being alive and my condition shouldn’t be a barrier to achieve something greater, I want to be a source of inspiration to my fellow physically challenged individuals out there”.

Bose, the unorthodox artist hates to be pitied but will gleefully accept support in patronage or by giving her platforms to showcase what she describes as her budding talents to the world.

funny answer

Ayeni faith should shut up.

Everybody's now a political pundit, and trying to be relevant by saying things they know nothing about. Ambode's problem is a party problem, as he has offended the leadership of the party in
Lagos State.

How difficult is this for the Faith's of the world to understand?

And who are the people that will ask questions? The ibo or the calabar people?because the Yoruba's that have a stake in the matter have already asked and gotten their answers, and that is why you see them voting for Sanwo-Olu today.

Unless of course you Faith, want to say you are smarter than the whole Yoruba's in Lagos, and that they lack sense.
