Governor Wike’s administration has donated 66 Security Vans fitted with communication gadgets to Security Agencies.

The governor also liaised with the 23 Local Government Areas to donate another 46 Vans fitted with communication gadgets to Security Agencies.

He has enhanced Statutory Financial Support and relevant logistics for Security Agencies thereby strengthening of the State Security Council for responsive performance.

Gov Ambode has donated cars and security bike’s to all security agencies in the state ,
They Include 140 brand new Ford Ranger Pick-Ups & 335 Power Bikes fitted with communication gadgets, Helmets, Bullet Proof vests and other kits.

These vehicles and equipment will be distributed among the 107 Police Stations and Thirteen Police Area Commands in Lagos State and also other beneficiaries like the Nigeria Customs, Immigration Services, the Nigeria Army, Airforce, Navy, DSS, AIG Zone 2, Civil Defence .

According to the Governor the total cost of acquiring these vehicles, equipment and kits amounted to N1.85billion Naira

He also said The items distributed are critical facilities required to address security and emergency challenges faced in the state as it will guarantee a safer & environment for business & leisure.

Governor Ambode has also urge all Lagosians to continue to see security as everybody’s business

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has stated that the successful hosting of the West African Golf Tournament in Port Harcourt further proves that the state remains secure for investments, sports and tourism.

Speaking on Sunday at the Golf Course of Port Harcourt Club where golf professionals from all over West Africa competed during the golf tournament, Governor Wike said despite the sponsored negative media propaganda to discredit the state high profile events’ planners continue to prefer the state.

He said there preference for the state stems from their knowledge of the reality on ground in the state. He said: “I feel so happy that the entire West African region have gathered here in Port Harcourt for this prestigious golf tournament.
“These high profile golf professionals have seen first hand that all they read in the newspapers are merely sponsored propaganda. Rivers State is safe for sporting events and business investments”.

The governor said that his administration has deliberately improved infrastructure to make the state attractive for the hosting of high profile events, which will energise hotel patronage and other tourism related activities.
He noted that his administration would continue to support sports because of its capacity to keep people mentally and physically fit, in addition to creating business opportunities.

Earlier, Mr Emmanuel Okene , captain of the Port Harcourt Club (Golf Section ), commended the governor for his investments in sports. He said the participants drawn from all over West Africa enjoyed the security and ambience of Port Harcourt during their stay in the city. Governor Wike was accompanied to the event by the State Commissioner for Sports, Mr Boma Iyaye.

SUSPECTED vandals on Tuesday invaded Ubima community in the Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, the home of the Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, and stole four transformers that provided electricity to the area.

We learnt that the vandals had stormed the village around 11pm and shot several bullets into the air to cause panic.

A source in the community told our correspondent that the area was thrown into panic because of the heavy shootings from the vandals.

The source said there was no power when the incident happened, adding that the darkness aided the vandalism.

He noted that people of the area thought the shootings were from the rampaging cultists, explaining that there had been cult-related activities in the area.

It was gathered that the vandals had entered the community in a Toyota Hilux, and used the vehicle to take the four transformers away.

“The community had six electricity transformers powering it, but the vandals stole four”, the source said.

The Community Development Committee Chairman of Ubima, Mr. Kingdom Elem, said members of the electricity committee had been arrested.

Elem said the persons arrested on Wednesday were being interrogated at the Elele Police Division, adding that the CDC, after its next meeting, would come up with a plan to reconnect the community.

The Rivers State Police Command spokesman, Mr. Ahmad Muhammad, who confirmed the incident, said the information at his disposal showed that no person had been arrested.

He said,

“The matter was reported, and the police sighted a truck carrying transformers at the Etche area of the state, but when they got there, they did not see anybody.”
