The unfolding story in Taraba state reads like a thriller: the governor survives a plane crash, loses his memory, is replaced in the interim by his deputy who then schemes to unseat him… and the deputy too is about to be unseated before his plan materialises. Meanwhile, Governor Danbaba Suntai, still recovering from the mishap and expected to face a medical panel, has gone “missing”, apparently to escape examination. Speaking to the BBC Hausa service on Monday, the acting governor of Taraba state, Alhaji Garba Umar, raised the alarm that the speaker of the house of assembly, Mr. Josiah Kente, was planning an impeachment against him. Suntai had been involved in an air mishap in October 2012 and has clearly not regained the medical fitness to return to office, having suffered a reported brain damage. But his associates are refusing to throw in the towel, creating the impression that Suntai is on the way to recovery and would soon return to office. Umar, meanwhile, is obviously aware that the governor is not likely to return to office again and has been plotting to take over substantively, sacking Suntai’s appointees and appointing his own loyalists to replace them as soon as he stepped in as acting governor in 2013. Umar’s game plan was very clear from day one. The state was politically fractured as tensions rose: it got so ridiculous that the state effectively has two persons holding the position of secretary to the state government (SSG) ─ Timothy Kataps, loyal to Suntai, and Garvey Yawe, loyal to Umar. MEDICAL PANEL After being snubbed at the Abuja airport last week when Suntai returned from a medical trip abroad, Umar got the state executive council to resolve that a medical panel be set up to ascertain the state of health of the governor ─ in accordance with the provisions of section 189 (b) and 189 (4) of the constitution. Kente promptly set up a panel headed by Bala Shehu. Other others: Ahmed Kara (Suntai’s personal physician, as required by law); Peter Alabi, Shehu Sule and Inusa Samaila. Umar must have smiled to himself that everything was going according to plan until he started hearing rumours that Kente also has his eyes on the governor’s seat. If the medical panel declares Suntai unfit, the house will have to impeach him. And, wait a minute… Umar may not become governor, after all. FINTIRI FORMULA Kente, TheCable learnt, is planning the Fintiri Formula ─ a replication of what the speaker of Adamawa house of assembly, Alhaji Ahmadu Fintiri, did when he got both the governor and the deputy out of the way in order to become acting governor. Vice Admiral Murtala Nyako was accused by the Adamawa lawmakers of corruption and gross misconduct and removed as governor, while his deputy, Mr. Bala Ngilari ─ who should ordinarily have taken over ─ was also impeached. Fintiri, as acting governor, is also the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the October 11 by-election, and there is yet no law barring him from running again in 2015 after completing Nyako’s tenure. Kente has taken his inspiration from Fintiri, and Umar ─ who was hunting his boss ─ is now being hunted. SUNTAI AWOL “I don’t even know what offence I committed that would warrant my impeachment,” Umar told the BBC, adding: “It is 22 months now that I have been acting as the governor. I have never thought of anything like impeachment. I have been obedient to my boss, yet people will always say he is coming back to take over power. That is why we are trying to ascertain his health condition and then inform the world.” But the drama promises to last longer. For the medical panel to reach a conclusion on the state of Suntai’s health, they must examine him. For them to examine him, they must have access to him. Umar… hunting and hunted “As I talk to you, nobody in the panel knows the whereabouts of Suntai,” a commissioner told TheCable, asking not to be named for political reasons. They actually know the whereabouts of Suntai ─ he is in Abuja, nestling at the home of former army chief, Gen. TY Danjuma, who is also from Taraba state. Danjuma is determined to frustrate the plan to impeach the governor. “Will the panel break into Danjuma’s fortified house to examine Suntai? No way,” a former aide to the governor told TheCable, while also expressing disappointment with Kente’s plan of double impeachment. Incidentally, Kente may also end up hunted as Umar is also said to be moving against him in the house. The acting governor is planning a fight back and is already in discussion with some of the Taraba lawmakers to checkmate Kente. Expect more drama in Taraba in the weeks ahead. chucky234: Delta and Edo state has running water since the 60s in the Bendel state, any one around Benin, Abraka, Obiaruku, Eku and Akpor can confirm this. There is no single well in Obiaruku because they were one of the first places to have pipeborne water direct from Bendel water board and now DSWC.Then I stand corrected. Thanks for the info. However, the public water supply in Lagos is very existent though not as good as it could be. |
chucky234: Did I just hear you say lie?Who mistakes borehole water for public water supply? Their is public water supply in Lagos. It is not everywhere but it is in a lot of places. I have lived in two places in Lagos and one had both while the other had exclusively public water supply and the only day it failed it was back in less than 10 hrs. So what exactly is your point? I asked you to mention one other city in this country that has public water supply? I am still waiting. |
chucky234: The fact that Lagos State Water Corporation is a failed entity is an open secrete. The same lagos wey i dey use Water works without fail for the past 2 years? Abi na another lagos? Some of us should lie with some conscience. Tell me another City in Nigeria that has public water works functioning? |
Gboliwe: and his offspring or distant relative is here on nairaland condemning government. Our problems are made and maintained by us- Nigerians.and the govt is incapable of prosecuting the contractors? Or are the contractors too aligned to the men and women in power? |
free2ryhme: Must everything be APC or PDP to you? Dem use arguement swear for you? Can't you have a constructive, intelligent arguement or conversation without recourse to politics? What positive have come from your comment?myopia is a hereditary disease in his clan. So short of a deliverance from TB, he is helpless. Bear with him. |
otokx: Port Harcourt Airport has long been abandoned, the depatures is below 50% with no airconditioning while the arrival is 1%.The work at that airport is an eyesore. In a country where things even pretend to work (not that it works),the woman and the contractor who was awarded that job will be defending themselves in the court of law and on their way to jail. I went to pee in the bathroom a week after the departure was declared open with fanfare and the urinals were leaking, the floor was flooded and two of the urinals were closed to the public as they were out of order. This was barely a week after the launch. |
Vessi: Chill, 2019 is not far away so you can elect your candidate.Obviously no vacancy for stupidity, ineptness and utter cluelessness. We are being served all that in full. How did you this man earn a PhD? In saner climes, the aviation chiefs and security chiefs would have been fired within 24hrs for this mess. This is a worse embarrassment than any thing else in recent times. |
barcanista: I also support you on anything that will be used to fight terrorism must be supported. That is why we need to ask questions concerning this Ayo's deal. For crying out loud blackmarket arms deal is only used by drug lords and terrorists. This weapons may be for BH or Oil bunkerers who knows? It looks too fishyStop making plenty sense in public. The Nigerian govt has banned it. You might be arrested for not being as stupid as the thieves in power. How did we end up with these band of barbarians in power? They can't even steal and launder discreetly. |
Kennyfancy: fool, u want dem to tell u dat dey ar going to buy arms abi ?, so dat u go go tell dat ur boko mallam whn dey stay bush make dem ready abi, gwoza 4 uYou need a brain transplant. In your mind, this is the most discreet way of buying arms to fight the insurgency? |
Forwetinnah: @Kelechi Deca..,The Fear Of America Is Beginning Of Wisdom! You need to take your pills. |
andyanders: What does it take for a T/T through the Apex bank to the receiving bank for such an amount if it was an urgent issue? They wanted to save on the cot that the sour looking CBN govt would have charged on the transaction,so they decided to move it in cash. You know it is public money and they have to make judicious use of it. |
A govt that is so inept that it or its sympathizers get involved in such dubious fraudulent acts is of all inept govt, most miserable. I have long advocated for our armed forces to be outsourced. This proves my argument. If the security chiefs made the sort of comments the article adduced then they should be summarily dismissed and without benefit. Since when did arms purchase become so pedestrian? How come no one catches BH when they purchase theirs but the govt is caught pants down when it goes arms shopping? |
“As the mother of the nation, my thoughts are with you and the entire congregation at this time of your grief,” the statement read in part. Who bestowed this on her? |
A Ghanaian follower of the clergyman, Ebenezer Donkor, insisted that despite the widespread criticism of TB Joshua, nothing would keep him away from the church “Even if another building collapses to kill one billion people, I will still follow Christ through Prophet TB Joshua. My faith is unshakable. God bless the man of God and all those who follow him,” Donkor said. |
Gorrbachev: Since abuse is not argument and is incapable of displacing fact, Oritsejafor may care to answer if the jet involved in the scandal is the same one that was "donated" to him in 2012? Did he register it as a commercial aircraft or is the plane illegally moonlighting as one? Why is he the first CAN leader to provoke pitiful mirth and amusement when he is not being derided as a tragedy, a sort of Ichabod, desperate to separate glory from a revered body? |
i beg make person give me reliable streaming site |
kokoA: CAN and TAN are one and thesame. Thank God the catholic church pulled out of that body long ago.. Nansense! A so called Christian body shamelessly supporting one political party against another in a secular world. Smh.The Catholic church is no better, just different. |
NIGERIALOLoCOM: I'm baffled at hearing of southern christians sponsoring Boko haram to harm pro muslim north. It presents northern leaders in a bad light. I don't think northern leaders are this imbecilic and retar.ded to allow Ayo and Ihejirika to lay north east to ruins.I see your point. However neither of these hustlers can be trusted. Irrespective of their ethnicity (which counts for nothing amongst hustlers). |
ProfCorruption: Of doing whatmillion dollar question |
naijababe: fredoooo, na your post i dey wait to.Dortmund don nack una akpako ![]() |
AlfaSelltzer: Drummaboy, I must say your hate is getting worrisome! You really had to go resurrect a 6 year old thread?same way your allergy to reason is bothering. You did not see the scripture that alluded to God saying "come let us reason together"? This assumption that faith and reason are mutually inexclusive is a lie from hell. While faith supersedes reason, they are not enemies. This a thread that gives room for reasoning and introspection. I struggle to see why the hate is coming from. |
Nigerian Military are utterly laughable. Some of the c.rap they come up with cannot even be imagined as jokes by proper military professionals. If we are serious as a country, we need to outsource our military needs. |
JuanDeDios: I like that Agbaje fellow. But PDP? Hm.I feel your pain |
ibedun: Foolish man which kind Ya wa burst? You are as daft as ever. The Yawa is the fact that he stayed another state of origin in the right up. What stops him from state his Ondo origin himself in order to disarm his detractors? I imagine you are unable to comprehend such simple facts. You have quickly attributed to me an Igbo origin. I don't role in the shallow waters of ethnicity that you thrive in. Go and play elsewhere, little t.wat. |
dustydee: Who do we believe?Maybe he was both. |
superstar1: Story for the gods.Next thing they will tell us that the Chadian president insisted on Sherriff sitting in the same room when he and GEJ talked. I wonder why we even bother with the lies that come out of this govt. One thing I am certain of, the lies they tell will consume them one day. That is always the inevitable end with lies and propaganda. |
r231: lady expert in idiology........I am ashamed of myself. :-) my wife go soon come read this thing and ask me to explain. |
aljharem: Gbammmm, we true Lagosians don't want other Tinubu APC pawn again.Ade Dosunmu ke? You no even talk about Agbaje |

Yet the slowpoke called Ochendo is on his way to the Senate as a reward for his excellence |
Goddex: 1) Tell Okorocha to play his cards well. He should lobby like other governors do. He knows the way to the Minister of works and the National AssemblyYour daftness is incurable. So we need to lobby this daft fellow before he does his job? Do you lobby your boss to pay your salary after working for the month? Do you realize that this road was already in the said state before boko Haram menace? Okorocha might be a clown but your defence of Jonathan on account of the pics accompanying this thread is sickening. |
r231: Happy Sunday All!!!This thing does not look soft from afar. What good is it if not soft? Being big is not enough. Even Common see the thing run. |
