It is no longer news that the girl child issue is now on the forefront. The government,the NGO'S and even the social media has turned to the girl child, their plights and how to conquer it.
While this is not a bad thing, I would like to draw your attention to one thing- the Boy child.While we are giving the girl child the attention she deserves we should also not forget the boy child. Forgetting the boy child will create an imbalance in the society and we would regret it sooner than later. While we are teaching the girl child to be more hardworking,industrious, independent, while we are teaching them to be bold and speak against any form of abuse, we must not turn a blind eye to the boy child.
Let me give you an example of what I noticed during my secondary school days, I observed that whenever a male student makes a report he is usually not taken serious but if its a female student the teachers will start reacting like chemicals,at the end the boy child feels left out and what is the result? he becomes rebellious.
Imagine a society where 90%of males are depressed and emotionally unstable that will be a big wahala for us and you know what? that is the direction our society is tilting towards.
A lot of male teens are depressed, no one is lending a listening ear to them,he's neglected, he's not helped to overcome his problems, he's told to bottle it up,he keeps bottling up till he becomes enraged turns to drug,alcohol and other things and trust me if it continues this way the boy child issue will be a bigger problem for us in the future. For example a marriage that has an emotionally unstable man will inevitably crash.If you are encouraging the girl child to go to school, encourage the boy child too,the rate at which male students are dropping out of school is alarming!!!
For those that will say marriage is not compulsory due to the point I raised before, remember you can't run away from men,either at your workplace, street, gym,Church, mosque etc
In conclusion, let me state this again I am not against the girl child movement but I appeal for an all inclusive plan.I Benjamin is only interested in the unification of mankind irrespective of race, religion, political affiliations and SEX and let me give you this final word; the fastest way to achieve gender equality for ladies is to ensure the society is made up of men with right orientation and don't forget a boy becomes a man.If you neglect the boy child and do not give him the right orientation, how will he grow up to become a responsible man?
