Leripa: @mcro:Thank you so much Leripa. We will follow ur advice. You are so much on point as regard question 2 and 3. I just came back from the airport and realize the huge difference in cost of tickets just within a space of two weeks. For Qatar for this weekend 11/01/14 it is N325000 and just for two weeks later 24/01/14 it is N154000, almost half of this weekend cost. My advice is for people to book well in advance so as to reduce the cost. Pls does anyone have an idea of the cost of flight from New York to Wichita Kansas and does one have to book in advance or can one walk in and make the booking? Also what is the cost of the greyhound bus from New York to North Carolina? Thank you very much. |

Hello good people, thank you all for your contributions thus far. Pls I have some questions to ask you which I need urgent reply. 1. Our intended host informed us that he would not be able to accommodate us at this time, thus my wife, baby and I have decided to use different hosts when we get to America. She and our baby will be staying with her brother while I wl be staying with a friend who can accommodate only me for the being. The question now is that, can the two of us change our addresses to two different addresses at our POE where our SSN and GC will be sent (for each of us to be able to receive them individually)? 2. We intend to buy a ticket for New York (JFK) and later go to our different destinations from there, she to Wichita Kansas while I will be heading to Raleigh North Carolina. Pls how do we get to these different destinations from New York putting paucity of funds into consideration? Or could you suggest a better different approach/route to this intended flight schedule (funds are of high consideration)? 3. Which of the airline wl provide the cheapest ticket at this time for a family of three; two adults and a baby? We intend to make the journey this weekend. Pls a prompt response will be highly appreciated. Thank you all and God bless. |
Wow. First of all, I want to appreciate that I was acknowledged in your book, sorry testimony . Congrats to you. Go and enjoy prepare to live you American dream. Are you a writer? If not, consider being one, because you are good.Shalom!
You guys are doing a great job here. More power to your elbow. Thanks for the compliments, and for the advice. I just say make I resemble u small ni. It is well my brother. |
And yes for the rest of us that are yet to go for our interview, pls let us give it our best. Preparation cannot be over-emphasized. I had to go over my MSc thesis, MSc courses, BSc studies and was sure of some of my O'level courses that I can easily remember and handle. The cost of pursuing the visa in terms of stress and finance is considerable enough for a conscientious preparation, even if only to say at the end of the day that 'I tried my best'. I remember I didn't sleep that night of my interview; I was busy swotting to the 'amusement' of my wife, cos she 'knew' the interview was going to be easy. Yes the interview was easy but by the power of prayers. None of the things I prepared for was asked. But I had the peace of mind that I have prepared enough. So my word for all those that are preparing for their interview is 'Preparation and Prayer is the key'. I wish you all Godspeed. |
chiwuike20: A very big thank you to all my nairaland efamily, u've all been of great help. I'll just focus on being a good lawyer now when d strike is called offMy guy, I do empathize with you on this. I have suffered so many disappointments that I was inured to them. But I always remain so positive and so sure that they are all working for my good. Pls ensure that your way with God is right and everything will turn in your favour. Everything works together for good to them that LOVE God, to them who are the called according to His purpose. Those are not words of consolation; they are words of faith. I wish I could share my life experience with you. But my testimony remains 'God is faithful'. Cheer up Bros, like somebody up there sang, 'Count ur blessings', pls don't discount them. That you woke up this morning is a reason that God is not yet through with you. You will testify of His Goodness. I prophesy into ur life, you will be going to America as if it is a market. The desires of your heart shall be granted. It is well with you my Brother. Shalom. |
Though I have shared my interview experience on the DV 2014 thread, I still feel I should come here to make my appreciation known since this thread was my first home. I read the thread from the beginning to the end. My only regret was that I didn’t decide to begin from the beginning early enough. Not until I made some mistakes and 'dashed out' some money did I decide to begin right from the start. That decision gave me all the tips and confidence that I needed. Special thanks go to Temmytanny, AdesojiAderemi, Roodboy, Brightmon, Gentiger, Bussyme, Jejelady, Genlion, Neroxp, Leripa, @femo, Godhelpmeooo, obamaobama, Adzovia and a host of others equally important and kind enough to share their thoughts. Your contributions were really priceless. May the good Lord continue to bless you in the land of America. I hope to join you soon. Cheers. |
dahunsiolajide: To God be the Glory , We were interviewed yestarday and the consula approved our visa , this will be picked up in two days time . Let me use this medium to thank Each and everyone Known and unknown in this forum , God will always intervened in your issue.Bros, I am so happy for you and your family. I never knew you even belong here. I was the one that made payment after you. My wife and I were sitting beside you and your wife. Those your children are wonderful. There mother must really be having a full time of them. I wish u well in your endeavours. |
Honestly, I don’t know where to start. Having played the lottery thing as a single for about 3 times without success, I was no longer motivated to try it. But my wife was unrelenting. She nagged and cajoled and entreated me and I finally capitulated but with a proviso: she must foot the bills, my transport fares inclusive. Off we went on circa Oct 28, 2012, just a few days to the deadline of the application. I then forgot all about it. On May 1, my wife called me to inform me that I have won the visa lottery for 2014. It was like a dream. I checked by myself and confirmed it. It couldn’t have come at a better time. Travelling abroad to further my education has always been my desire, but the financial rigours involved coupled with the inherent uncertainty in granting of the visa were most discouraging. And here is an opportunity, not only to study but also to live and raise a family, God is indeed the Lord that answereth by fire. May the Lord continue to bless our women. I owe the visas to my wife. To cut the long story short, we set out by 6:30 am to meet an appointment for 10am. Traffic wasn’t that terrible and we still had time to settle down despite having hitches about locating the car park. We were ushered in by 9:30 am. All the security checks were observed and the payment was made. I witnessed @dahunsiolajide predicament of not having enough dollar to make his payment and I was happy when a dude bailed him out. Window 16 used to be a dreaded window for the DV 2013 Winners with a much dreaded white woman giving people the scare of their lives with more denials than all other COs combined. But the window is now an oasis and was occupied by an elderly white man who was ‘dishing out’ the visas like ‘pure water’. May God bless him. By the powers of prayer, after a protracted wait our number finally bleeped at Window 16. Oath-taking and fingerprinting done, the interview itself was less than 2 minutes. Here we go. co: (looking at our baby) how old is she? Me: sorry, it’s a he not a she. co: (looking at the baby’s form in his hand) oh sorry, I didn’t see the second name. so how old is he? we: three months and twenty days. Co: what is ur highest level of education. Me: MSc in xxxxxxx. Co: (looking at my form in his hands) in xxxxxx yyyyyyy University. Me: yes and that was where I had my first degree too. Co: for how long have u known your wife? Me: for nine years. Co: when did you propose marriage to her. Me: last year January during her birthday. Co: why did it take u dt long? Me: we were both undergraduate when we first met. It was when I was when I started working we now thought of marriage. (All the while, he was holding two sheets of paper and now stretching them forth) Co: ok. You will go to this address….. (for my mind I thought he wanted to say ‘to continue the interview’) Co: (continue) there, you will pick your visas which will be ready by next week. (If he had not added that somebody could collect the visa on our behalf I would have assumed I did not hear him well). Co: congratulations and welcome to America. We: thank you and God bless you. My wife and my baby were even by my side throughout the interview. The Co did not tell her to go and sit down in order to interview me alone. LESSON LEARNT. 1. It is not of him that wills, but of God that shows mercy. Having seen what many are doing to travel abroad by all means and having considered that I never made any spirited effort to consider travelling seriously despite that being my desire, then I have come to the conclusion that only what He wills matter, not my will. 2. By patience possess your soul. I was almost worry when I did not see my 2nl having sent my forms since early June and the receipt acknowledge on June 11. I was current in October but did not receive my 2nl until 3rd week of Oct. So to those waiting for 2nl, it will come. No one on DV 2013 thread was not called for his interview. Urs will not be an exception. 3. Preparation. Opportunity always favours the man who is prepared. Those waiting for their interview should start by reading this thread from the beginning. I started to read DV 2013 when it was around 500 posts. But I later had to go back to the beginning. I regretted I didn’t start that earlier. At least DHL wouldn’t have ‘chopped’ my money. So please if you still have the time, read some of the posts in DV 2013 thread too. You will be surprised at the guru that lies within you. 4. Prayer. The efficacy of prayer cannot be overemphasized. If there was one thing that made my interview very simple, I believed it was prayer. Since I got to know I won in May, I have set aside a day in the week to fast and pray for favour and success in the interview. Despite my deep and intense preparation for academic questions across all levels and marital-based interview, God took all the glory; no question from my preparation was asked. Finally never stop believing. Your own miracle is on the way. My special appreciation goes to Obatide, Madu77, G2Glory, kevwe flex, seubis, femishow, ItyRoyal and all others that have been contributing on this thread. May you never lose your own reward. Also of the DV 2013 thread, my appreciation goes to Temmytanny, Adesojiaderemi, Jejelady, Roodboy, Gentiger, Genlion, Brightmon, Godhelpmeoooo, Leripa, obamaobama, Bussyme, Kemzone 2003, and a host of others too numerous to mention, you guys are the bomb. You won the visa for me a long time ago. May God continue to bless you in the White man’s land. Addendum: I am really sorry for this long epistle, I cannot just keep the joy to myself anymore. For as many that are yet to go for their interview, you will experience this joy that fills my heart and soul. Thank you and God bless. |
Irorun lo ba de. Mine was a very easy interview. God was involved from the beginning. Na God, no be me. The interview proper coming shortly. Pls praise God on my behalf. |
Sometimes I wonder if you were truly an African. Your doggedness, your selflessness, your honesty, your fearlessness, your uprightness, your spirit, I am tempted to say are all unAfrican. Or why is it that only you could demonstrate all of these in a continent that wallows in utter doldrums and despair in spite natural and human resources that have been plundered by the warlord-like leaders that revel in riding roughshod on the rest of us. I am sadder because in looking at the horizon nobody comes close that can give Africa and Africans the hope and dignity that we most needed at this time. But I have faith that the Providence will one day grant us a son that Africans will look up to and be proud of a la Mandela. Rest in Peace, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela The Great. |
bendam: There is no problem with going with car.just ensure you get to the embassy on time cos of the high road traffic.we both know how lagos traffic is.there is a general parking space close to the embassy and is just N300.no matter the time of your interview, i will strongly advice you are there early enough cos of the traffic as earlier said. except you stay around victoria island, and thats why is advisable you go with your car, so even if you get there by 7am,you can stay inside your car until it reach your appointment time, meanwhile being schedule for 10am doesnt mean is 10am, by 9am.they might start calling you for security checks,Our prayers are already answered long time ago.just give HIM high praise with faith....it works as i am a living witnessYes it does help. Thanks for being a buddy. Your words validate my opinion about praise and faith. They both work wonders. Thanks a million times. |
Darhmee: Hi guys.. so here was how it started.. I did the visa lottery for myself as the principal and my mom as the principal back then. So when my mom won, the only the only thing i have was the confirmation number.. i wasnt sure if i registered my dad and my siblings with her but with faith, we continued the processing. My dad didn't want to go with us because he has businesses he is running here in NIgeria and also, my older brother is over-aged. So, i and my mom decided to do the processing for just the both of us.Congratulations. Yes, by strength shall no man prevail. Thank God for His mercies. More success stories await you. Go live your American dream. |
Hello House, pls our interview is next week and I want to ask 1) whether it is better to go by car or by public transport. if by car, what is the parking arrangement like? (2) for an appointment of 10 O'clock, does it matter if one arrives as early as 6 0'clock? (3) your prayers are highly coveted. Thank you and God bless. |
Rood boy, Your case has taught me so many lessons. First, competence and confidence are never enough. In everything, there is alw the God Factor which is favour. The horse may be prepared for the day of battle, but victory alone belongs to God. Second, no situation is beyond redemption. My heart sank when I heard about your first denial. Of a truth I was despondent on your situation as at that time. But thank God who alw rise to the occasion esp when no one else can. Lastly, humility pays a lot. Despite some provocations, you alw keep a very cool head and that has endeared you to many people including yours sincerely. Your humility, esp when you were wrong, accepted and asked for forgiveness, earns my respect over and over again. Your selflessness and willingness to help others are worthy of utmost commendation. I personally and specially prayed for you at your first th interview and I am happy that at last our prayers availed. Go live your American dreams. Never stop being you. Learn the lesson of the whole exercise which is 'without God you can do nothing'. Once again, congrats. Join you in America soon. rood boy: House Praaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaise the lord? |
Timijo: The only question I have is the use of tenses with with this verb, ''bless''.'God bless you' is the shorten form of "May God bless you". The "May" is often omitted but it is generally understood. Thanks. |
I grew up in an environment where corporal punishment was highly encouraged. One common denomination i can see today is dt one of us children of dt particular environment are v responsible citizens 2day. Thanks 2my father of blessed memory, i wud have bn worse off had i bn left 2my own devices. Truth is dt some children need more than mere verbal chastisement 2be corrected. That d child gets immuned 2d punishment is not totally true; he stl dreads d prospect of d sure cane. I am talking 4m experience. Most of my friends 2day seem 2have same story of childhood, they were stubborn & were not indulged and today they are better 4it. As a matter of fact, d real rebels among us when we were young grow up 2love d parent dt stood up against our delinquencies. All we need 2learn is how 2 draw d line btw punishment as a corrective measure or as an abuse. My father knew just dt. |

U see them in d church, on ur street well advanced in age wt no man of their own and u feel like pitying them not knowing it is Karma at work. In a little while she will be visiting all sorts of Babalawo, Alfa, Pastors and all d gamut of divination looking 4 something she wilfully threw away. U need special prayer not 2 be haunted by d atrocities u av committed already. Just let ur fiance knows about ur recent escapade, i bet u 'u go tay 4 d searching market'. U are forwarned. |
LMAO. I was filled with a sense of nostalgia reading this. But honestly with all ur braggadocio among ur friends, when it comes to wooing a girl in those days, ur heart wouldn't skip a bit, it would do ten sommersaults at once. I remember the first girl i 'tossed', eventhough she was my junior in school and probably couldn't 'face' me when it comes to English, yet i couldn't summon the courage to meet her one on one. It was through letter or else i would have hypertension. Of course the girl couldn't reply and her elder cousin couldn't help her out else i made mock of 'their killing english by their gunning grammar'. But i will forever be grateful for such enterprise as that laid the solid foundation for my English and also earned me respect among my folks. "It is with utmost gladness that i am writing my amorous missive to you. I was flabbergasted to realize that your visage paralyzed my thinking and i could not tell you what u mean to me. You are the sugar in my tea and the fish in my pond" I was just too bombastic in those days. And expectedly they fell for me in number. But sorry the girls of nowadays no be by ur grammar agian oh. |
the problem is multifaceted and is really a vicious cycle; the government is parochial and nepotistic and hires mediocres as teachers, the teachers are unfulfilled and shortchanged and are 'exploitable'y the parents, the parents are overwhelmed, undervalued and economically pauperizes by the government and so cannot avoid to pay for exm twice, the students are so lazy, irresponsible and later find themselves in government as croocked politicians |
May you live long to do Second term ( and also 3rd Term) in prison. May it be soon enough so that u will be served by Bode George. May you live to witness a renaissance Nigeria where mediocrities that your lots have encouraged will give way to qualities and excellence. And finally, may you really llive long for Nemesis to catch up on you. And may Nigeria never be so unfortunate again to have your kinds as a ruler(despot) |
