Miscellaneous: Pls na these small things dey confuse person pass o....
1. abeg i just logged on to uniben website hoping to see ''final submit'' as u guys said o but wat i saw was ''..submitted..'' o shuo.
2. They said i need to verify my centre 72hrs to d exam. Do i jst need to login myself & c d centre at d bottom or go to cafe and tell them to print it out....shud in case uniben wants d new centre print out (had it been my centre changed) ?
hahaha Bro first attempt na so it dey be. Uniben don open my eyes so tay my eyes don tear well well

that statement that ask u to verify ur centre 72hrs before ur exam day means u should make sure u know the Hall where u will be writing ur exam 3days to the day of the exam. Ur centre has not changed. It is still the same. Check ur acknowledgement slip u will see ur centre u don't need to go to the cafe. I hope the cafe guys give u ur passwrod and username for the day u register o cuz na them u go use to check ur result and admission status when the admision is out.

STORM2: As usual we'll agree to disagree......
I don't know what else to tell u..there is no "rule" to follow. This is simple proportion.
Q=IT.....i.e coloumbs =time x ampere.....so if u have the quantity of electricity u automatically have ur time and ampere...I'm shocked we're still talking about this......
u mean the question we are arguing has Automatical time and current? Not at all

look at that my example, u see that the current is given to u which is 2ampere and the time is 30minutes. Meaning u gotta calculate using Q=It = 2 * 30 * 60= 3600C U will now divide it by 96500

sylvalord question will by no means has automatic current and time.

Kindly give the question to final year Chemistry student to solve or any teacher.

STORM2: @Mcslize and Sylvalord...pls just cool down okay....
How many coloumbs will give 18g of AL3+?
The answer is 2F abi?
This answer simply means that 2Faraday (2x96500Coloumbs) will give 18g of aluminum.
The question now asks how many grams of copper will the above amount of electricity deposit...
Cu2+ requires exactly 2F to give 64g of copper.

This means that 2F (from above) yeilds 64g of copper...
This is a trick question...pls don't fall for it.
Just cool down and u'll see my logic is sound.
sylvalord: hmm.. I jst checked it again and u might be correct..
U are wrong. Pls think of the question. The question didn't give us current and time so u can't use 95600c. U can only use that if the question give u the current and the time it took for the current to deposit the element & thats wen u will apply that method u explain above by using the formular Q = It to calculate the number of Columb.

But the question only ask u to solve directly for the amount of cu deposited.

To support what I said below are two examples:

Example 1:
In electrolysis, a metal cation M3+ is liberated at the cathode. Calculate the mass of M deposited when a current of 2 ampere is passed for 30 minutes ( M= 56, R faraday= 96500C)

looking at this question above, ur above method can only be used to solve problem like this cited example because the current is given and time is given.

Don't mistake this kind of question with the one set by slvalord. They are different entirely.

U were not given the current so why should u be using that method?

That ur explanation can only be used to solve the example I cited above not the one that sylvalord set.
If u still doubt then give the question to a chemistry teacher to solve it he will still arrive at that my answer.

STORM2: Kai! I didn't fail number 2 oh. I no gree for that wan...the question said SAME amt of electricy..u're to solve for 2F not 1F....we go fight oh
sis the question doesn't ask us to use the copper valence to calculate for the amount of copper

It asked us to solve directly for the amount of copper that will be deposited by that 2faraday electricity that deposited aluminium.

If the question had not involve aluminium thats when u can used the valence of copper to calculate for the amount of copper. But as u can see the question involve another element which is Aluminium. I hope u will get it right this time around
Education › Re: NEWLY ADMITTED UNIBEN STUDENTS 2013/2014 SESSION... by Mcslize: 6:17pm On Jul 06, 2013
STORM2: @Mcslize, that number 2 remember the question asked for "the amount of metal deposited by the same amount of electricity that deposits 18g of aluminium" not the amount deposited by 1faraday.
I don catch u! smiley
No argue oh! I don catch u!!!
But u know chemistry sha! That one abt lime water pained me!!!! U good!
sweetheart, the question 2 is asking us to calculate amount of Copper that will be deposited by the same electricity that deposite 18g of Aluminium

Faraday is also known as electricity. Now , from my solving, 2faraday deposit 18g of Aluminium. What amount of copper will be deposited with that same electricity? Thats the question.
All u need to do is calculate the amount of copper that will be deposited with that 2faraday which can also be refer to as the electricity.
So, if 2f deposite 18g Aluminium
2f will deposite 32g Copper

I hope it is clearer now

sylvalord: Now its time 4 CHEMISTRY..
1) which metal has d least tendency to form positive ion a)iron b)aluminium c)sodium d)calcium
2)what quantity of copper will be deposited by the same quantity of electricity that deposited 18g of aluminium (al-27, cu-64) a)64g b)32g c)16g d)8g
3) calculate d oxidation number of chlorine CL2O7 a)7 b)2 c)5 d)1
4)which does nt av decolourised bromine water a)c2h2 b)c2h4 c)c2h6 d)c3h6
5)which of d following can sublime a)ink b)sodium c)hydrogen d)iodine
6) when CO2 is passed into lime water for a short time the product formed is a)CaC2 b)CaCO3 c)Ca(HCO3)2 d)CaO
7) As a reducing agent, aluminium is used in the a)thermite process b)contact process c)solvay process d)lead chamber process
cool Radon is used as a tracer in medical research because it a)is mono atomic b)is radioactive c)is a noble gas d) it produces x-ray
9) The following r metal ores except a)galena b)cryolite c)siderite d)graphite
10)copper and tin r the components of a)steel b)bronze c)brass d)dentist amalgam

Remember.. Dnt use text-book oo.. I will give d correction later.. Gudluck guys
1. A
Explanation: Aluminium, Calcium & Sodium belong to group 3, 2 & 1 respectively making them more reactive cuz they easily give out their outer most electrons making them to form positive ions.

2. B

Explanation:

Note f= faraday

3f of Al = 27g
x = 18g

Therefore 27g/3f = 18g/x

x = 2f

2f deposit 64g of Cu
1f will deposit 64g/2f * 1= 32g of Cu

3. A

Explanation: CL2O7
Oxygen ion= -2, lets Chlorine ion = x

2x + ( -2 * 7) = 0

2x - 14 = 0

2x = 14

x = 14/2

x = 7

4. C

Explanation: All alkanes group does not decolorise bromine water cuz they are saturated. And they have a general molecular formaular of CnH2n + 2

therefore ethane which is two in the group will be C2H2*2 + 2 = C2H6

5. D

Explanation: Iodine will sublime because iodine structure is held by weak intermolecular force

6. B

Explanation: If CO2 Is pass through a lime water for a short time the lime water will turn milky therby forming an insoluble calcium trioxocarbonate iv CaCO3

but if it is pass through the lime water for long time it will form the soluble salt called calcium hydrogen trioxocarbonate iv which when heated will decompose to form CO2, H2O & CaCO3

7. A

8. B
Explanation: Radon is a radioactive element that disintegrate & as such it is used as a tracer in medical research

9.D

Explanation: Graphite is not an ore but an allotrope of carbon beside Diamond. And it is used as a lubricant due to its structure

10 B

Explanation: copper Cu & Tin Sn are the component of Bronze.
Copper & Zinc are the component of Brass

Almagam is mercury with any other element e,g aluminium almagam, zinc almagam etc

Let me throw more light to that of Anaerobic fermentation

all cells retain the enzymatic ability to breakdown glucose without the aid of oxygen i.e Anaerobic

the anaerombic breakdown of glucose is called glycolysis which leads to the production of two molecules of pyruvic acid & two molecules of ATP.

However, Yeast cells use glycolysis otherwise called alcoholic fermentation to produce ethanol, carbon dioxide and energy

thats while that answer is Lactic acid cuz anaerobic respiration do not produce Lactic acid

I think this will help u guys to stop arguing with "Storm".
looking at that sentence critically u will see that the gap to fill is directly in front of the who.......... But in this sentence Ahmed is one of the boys who always. That always in front of who show that the boys did not perform any action. Only Ahmed perform an action thats why it takes does not do.

In ur sentence above u will notice that the women perform an action as a whole which is they sell but one of them has been withdrawn. This show that there is two action in that sentence. But Ahmed is one of the boys who always does good work contain only one action. Check it out very well.

honey, the rule of English does not belong to one. It is the same all over the world. You cannot over ride it because when you do, then people will misunderstand your expression. They will think you mean that when actually you mean this and that will cause commotion.

Thats it, some people don't like taking correction even when they know that they are on the wrong. In every Subject, there are rules that govern them. But when someone decide to over ride those rules then the person must be heading to failure.

By the end of July, I believe everyone will come here to post their post ume score. And that is when the Sheep will be selected from the Goats.

STORM2: Sweety, when u're calm you'll see why I called it a trick question.
Would u say "he is one of the men the PRODUCE good music?"
Or "he is one of the men that PRODUCES good music?"
The same thing applies here...just be calm and see the difference.
u don't seem to agree. Sweety u are contradicting urself cuz u have already answered the question yourself. Tell met the differnce between Do and Does. I think that will help u appreciate it. We are talking of Rule of AGREEMENT. Don't ever say that in public cuz people will laugh at ur expression seriously.

WHO in agreement: The Law states that Who will refer to the noun or pronoun that comes before it & that noun or pronoun must become the subject. In the example of Ahmed , who refers to ''the boys'' but one of them refer to Ahmed thereby attracting does. Follow this simple rule u will find out that u are totally wrong.

Mickey7: simple correction u wont take! Smh ..can u say 'one of you ARE responsible?'
mickey leave them, when someone explain something with detail and they still stick to the wrong one then I gotta leave them. I told them that whenever they see the phrase ''one of'' a plural Noun is chosen but the verb must be singular. Like the example u gave : One of you ''ARE'' responsible seems to be right to them. Instead of is responsible.

Ahmed is one of the boys who always ................. [A. does B. do C. would do D. done] good work

according to majority of them here ,they choose do instead of does.

It is just like saying One of you Are responsible which they know is wrong

I lot of people go maga for English for the post ume the way I am seeing it.

I pray for God to let their Heart be receptive and take correction.

Thanks for that ur example. But I believe they will still stick to that do.

it seems u have not read the said Book u just mentioned now which is the INVISIBLE TEACHER. BRAINEE123: Hello! Your suggested answer is WRONG! The required predicate complements the people who do the work. Among those people, is Ahmed .THE RIGHT PREDICATE IS "DO"
When the question is re-analyzed, it becomes:
One of the boys who do the work is Ahmed.(boys-do)
i strongly believe that all my answers are correct.

Ahmed is one of the Boys. The sentence centre on Ahmed not all the boys. The sentence does not refer to all the boys for which Ahmed is among.so it will be wrong to choose a plural verb do when the sentence doesn't refer to them as a whole but only Ahmed who is a single individual. U can always choose the right answer by looking at the Subject of the sentence then if the subject is singular u must always choose a singular verb but if the subject is plural u must always choose a plural verb. For u choosing do instead of does means u view Ahmed as a plural Subject which is not.
I hope someone will agree with me on this.
