One particular bible verse always presented in defense of trinity is John 1:1. Does this bible verse lead credence to the believe in trinity?

First of all, I have carefully considered the words of the scripture because I very well believe that the identity of christ is a very valuable christian truth. To be a christian means to be christ like. It gets difficult to claim christianity when the identity of christ we proclaim is obscured to us.

This articular desires to answer the question, Does John 1:1 prove that Jesus Christ is God almighty?

Before I proceed, I want to clearly point out that everyone has the right to his believe and everyone should also weigh his believe in the light of objective thinking. Please lets whoever who desire to comment refrain from name calling. There is also no need to be aggressive over others who share a different believe from ourselves. Also atheist amongst us, please respect our right to believe in God. You dont need to comment if this doesn't interest you.

The issue of trinity have been of heated debate for centuries. Here are some bible verses put forward by those who holds this beleive
1. John 1:1 : In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (New International version)
2. Philipian 2:5,6 : You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
3. Isaiah 9:6 : For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Here are some verses by those who oppose trinity

1. 1 cor 11:3 : But I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.
2. John 14:28 : "You heard me say, 'I am going away and I am coming back to you.' If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.
3. Rev 1:1 The revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him [/b]to show his servants what must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John

In order to understand John 1:1 we must first see how the word God is used in the Bible. God is not a person. God is a title. That is why there are many gods. The word god means mighty one.

1 Corinthians 8: 5 For even though there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth, just as there are many “gods” and many “lords,” 6 there is actually to us one God, the Father, from whom all things are and we for him; and there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things are and we through him“.

While one can see the separation of the person Jesus from God the father here in this scripture, I used the scripture to point out that the word God was a title.

Man can be called gods. The True God called men gods.

Psalm 82: 5 “They do not know, nor do they understand;They are walking about in darkness;All the foundations of the earth are being shaken. 6 “I have said, ‘You are gods, All of you are sons of the Most High. 7 But you will die just as men do; And like any other prince you will fall!”.

Now that we know that the word God is a TITLE, we may have greater understanding of John 1: 1

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him; and without him was not anything made that hath been made. King James Version rendered today.


Translations by James Moffatt, Edgar J. Goodspeed and Hugh J. Schonfield render part of the verse as "...the Word [Logos] was divine". Murray J. Harris writes,

[It] is clear that in the translation "the Word was God", the term God is being used to denote his nature or essence, and not his person. But in normal English usage "God" is a proper noun, referring to the person of the Father or corporately to the three persons of the Godhead. Moreover, "the Word was God" suggests that "the Word" and "God" are convertible terms, that the proposition is reciprocating. But the Word is neither the Father nor the Trinity … The rendering cannot stand without explanation."[15]

Look at how this scripture was rendered in some other bible translations
1808: "and the Word was a god" – Thomas Belsham The New Testament, in an Improved Version, Upon the Basis of Archbishop Newcome’s New Translation: With a Corrected Text, London.
1822: "and the Word was a god" – The New Testament in Greek and English (A. Kneeland, 1822.)
1829: "and the Word was a god" – The Monotessaron; or, The Gospel History According to the Four Evangelists (J. S. Thompson, 1829)
1911: "and [a] God was the word" – The Coptic Version of the New Testament in the Southern Dialect, by George William Horner.[17]
1924: "the Logos was divine" – The Bible: James Moffatt Translation, by James Moffatt.[18]
1935: "and the Word was divine" – The Bible: An American Translation, by John M. P. Smith and Edgar J. Goodspeed, Chicago.[19]
1955: "so the Word was divine" – The Authentic New Testament, by Hugh J. Schonfield, Aberdeen.[20].


Knowing that men are called gods or mighty ones, it is no small measure to call Jesus a god, but he is not the one True God. Jesus admits this himself and this is the message that John promoted by writing this verse.

John 20: 17 Jesus said to her: “Stop clinging to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father and to my God and your God.’”. And also is
1 cor 11:3 : But I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.

To say that Christ is equal to Almighty God will be to go against several verses in the scripture such as those above and many others

Congrats to all successful candidates. Congrats too to those who have been sent regret email. At least that gave them some kind of closer. But what about we who made it to d first panel interview at Total but just ignored. No success. No regret. At d panel, I remember been told I d be contracted a week later whether successful or not

Think I answered this earlier. They are currently conducting final stage interviews for all positions (2candidates each for every role).

I believe feedback would be given to some people that participated in the technical interview within the next 10-14days.

My advice is that just be at peace in God, who will settle everyone at the due season.

May I also implore everyone to curb their enthusiasm. This may/ may not be the Eldorado you wished for from your youth. One of the first things they told people at the panel interview weeks ago was "This is not Total E&P. The salary scale is not comparable to that of Total E&P. You will not get the opportunity to convert/transfer to Total E&P".......

How many people are likely to be in the first batch 25-30? How many people participated in the process? Over 1,000. So the probability that someone who was called is active on Nairaland is ca. (0.015*0.03). 2) People are quite guarded with roles like this! This is not a graduate role o. Guys keep quiet all the way till they get the job! If you are ahead in the process, you gain nothing by louding it here.... 3) Very smart guys won't say a word sef! They are aware that people who participate in the later stages are at an advantage! So you are best served not talking (I know of two friends involved in this process... One asked the other for information on the process, and the friend responded saying "I can't remember" standard and smart answer!) And before you say there is croynism, I would ask if you do have 10years experience with a private equity, infrastructure or real estate fund?

@People were further separated into batches.... If you finished with a first class from a federal uni and had a good performance at the tests CBI and technicals, you obviously stood a good chance to be in the first batch. Now CPFA would go through the first batch to pick a candidate before considering the second batch! So do not expect any communication from the company for the next 2-3weeks.

@Mcthewills: bro how can you expect a call for the final stage, when they did not even call you for the first stage? Or did you attend the first panel interview at CPFA last week?

So your prayers would be 1) that CPFA does not like anyone before your batch 2) that your batch comes up quickly 3) that you blow them off when they see you.

@All: Some news...…. CPFA has started scheduling guys for the final stages. Personality test at workforce and final interview at Total. It may be advisable to take your mind off the process at this point.

At this rate, I would assume they have called about 3-5 persons for each role. I would simply make up my mind to prepare like it was a life exam, and go give it my best shot! Can only pray and prepare at this point, any other thing is useless.

I can see that u very well agree with my earlier assertion that top performers have been invited. Its unfortunate but that seems to be d case. As u said between 3 to 5 person. My guess is, they are picking 2 for certain roles and 1 for others. Hence inviting 5 for some and 3 for others

It's my opinion that workforce got it all mixed up from the inception.
They should have started with a role based CBT test and set a benchmark of about 50-70%.
Then the interview should have been technical.
At the end of the day, the candidates who emerged from the process could have been thorough enough for CPFA.

I am undergoing this same role with Interswitch, the CBT test, no be here o..., was purely role based,they took from 70%

Very true. But also know that even if they go that route, its unlikely that they ll send just 1name to CPFA for recruitment per position. They ll send couple of names for d recruitment organization to then narrow down who fits them. I think its standard practice

Workforce have sent list of top performers to CPFA. CPFA is conducting interview to screen them and choose d best amongst them. Let's say Workforce sent 5names for system admin position, CPFA will screen the 5 and maybe choose 2best for d job. In the case that none of d top 5meets what they want which is very unlikely, then they ll ask workforce for more names. Once they get d 2 candidate that they need for each position, workforce will send reject email to d rest.

If u haven't yet gotten email, the odds are very low for u. I have strong intel that interviews where conducted last week Monday and will be conducted today and tomorrow.

I m just assuming that they are looking for 2position for each role. I might be wrong. It could be 1 or 3.

CPFA's pay is not on the same scale as E&P's. People in CPFA have been clamouring for years to make them same. However, there is a high probability that it may be higher than what you are currently taking. So it may not be Eldorado, but it is in the right direction.

Bear in mind that not so many places in Nigeria offer the environment and work conditions that you are likely to get at CPFA.

So Workforce has done a 'technical' interview, but trust me the Total panel would be more relevant and broad as well. The panel would have HR, CIO, Legal and Risk managers. So they may each get to ask you a question and assess your technical competence, ethics and others.

To practice for the Total panel interview, I would advice that you go to threads on Total E&P recruitment. Trust me the format would be the same!

Too many mixed signals.... 1. There is talk of the invitation being in batches... So they invited some people earlier in the day, then invited a few more in the evening. 2. Don't know criteria for who goes first, as a number of guys that were bounced and readmitted got into the next stage. 3. The technical bit seems to have played a huge role, and a few investment analysts have been saying they are not too sure of the competence of the assessor.... (They say he seemed lost on some answers). 4. They interviewed 2 IT guys last week---- this is solid intel! In fact some of the contract staff in Total CPFA's office that applied for the same role were shocked when these guys came in for the interview....

However, if you are yet to be invited, you are still in the race for the prize, and trust me this may be to your advantage! Affords you the opportunity to be better prepared!

Now I am not sure of Workforce's process, but they may just be putting across candidates according to the level of previous performance... I don't think the Panel would be patient enough to see everyone SHA. Especially, as they are saying first and second panels...... But keep hope alive and keep praying.

I was of d opinion that once workforce recommends u to CPFA, then its almost a done deal. But it seems that is not so. It seems CPFA is still heavily screening people out from ur message. There are different roles. 500k cannot be a bench mark for all the roles with years of experience. Why not go through with the process and negotiate when the time comes. If they can match your request, they will, if not, you move on to something else. My thoughts.
