PoliticsIs Racism Against Blacks Because The World Thinks Africa Is A Lost Continent? by meavox(op): 2:59pm On Apr 20, 2020
IS RACISM AGAINST BLACKS BECAUSE THE WORLD THINKS AFRICA IS A LOST CONTINENT?

If you go through Asian, American, Canadian and European social media comments relating to Africa you'll see that many of those people see Africans as losers and unable to progress. Or if there is progress it is only with the help of foreigners.

We have only ourselves to blame for our reputation. It's why we have no respect so face a lot of racism.

Those Nigerians and Africans who flee abroad for the money there and for an easier life are not helping matters. They will keep on facing racism there because nobody respects those who run away leaving their house untidy and messed up. I have seen comments saying Africans should return home to join their countrymen to fix their countries, rather than hang about in Europe. We know that is good talk.
Africans are just pretending to be useful abroad when your messed up house needs you. How you will explain yourself to God on Judgement Day I do not know. Rather than use your talents to fix your home, you run away to keep tidy the already tidy home of another man? Anyway, let me leave that one.

Below is a screenshot from an Oyeebo man who says Africa is a LOST continent and that he knows since he worked in Africa.

He also said Africans don't care. He must have seen the great SELFISHNESS in us that cannot be hidden. Look at us with this Coro. At least it costs no money to keep social distance, but we don't care to do it. Not even for the sake of our children whose lives we are playing with.

THE WISDOM OF FOLLY AND THE OUTCOME OF MOPPING WHILST LEAVING THE TAP RUNNING - Tony Nnadi, April 15, 2020.

In a widely circulated video titled: “NIGERIA, A COUNTRY WHERE DREAMS DIE”, a young man narrates how his wonderfully packaged World Class Medical Facility Dream which he had christened “Abuja Medical City” Died suddenly, in 2013 after he had committed so much money to put the Package together and to make presentations to those in Government in Abuja whom he thought would instantly embrace the Project and run with it.

Unfortunately for this otherwise brilliant sounding fellow, he was obviously oblivious of the Dream-Incinerating Unitary Constitution of Nigeria as he put his Abuja Medical City Proposal together.

That costly ignorance must be reason he described President Goodluck Jonathan as “docile” in his lamentation video.

That ignorance must be reason he was unable to see the huge CEMETERY of Dreams that Nigeria had been to tons of other brilliant initiatives and for which reason he was convinced that his brilliant proposition in the Healthcare Arena would fare better than its predecessors in the countless other spheres where Nigeria needed and still needs the injection of the kind of innovative idea and intervention his Healthcare Proposal represented.

As it is with this Dead Dream in health care, so is it with thousands of other dreams in Electric Power Generation, Critical Infrastructure, including Air and Sea Ports, Railways, Industrial Parks, Manufacturing, Housing, and a Long List of other ordinarily viable and desirable ventures that ended up as Dead Dreams.

The Problem is not President Jonathan nor any of his predecessors, or even his dumb, bigoted successor. No.

The Problem is the asphyxiating 68-Item Federal Exclusive Legislative List in the 1999 Constitution which Locks Down and Locks Out the Federating States, Capable Corporations, Institutions and Individuals from a whole range of Economic and Developmental Activities in Nigeria, Centralizing and Exclusively Domiciling the Powers and Resources to deal with all the 68 Subject Matters on that Federal Exclusive Legislative List in the hands of an omnipotent but illicit and totally inefficient Federal Government.

Unitary Nigeria is the Monster that Killed the Dream of the Abuja Medical City.

That is the same Monster that Killed all the other Brilliant and Laudable Dead Dreams across the Economy and the Country.

That is the very same Monster that is now about to Kill the otherwise Great Dream on the African Continent called “Nigeria”

Ask Nigeria what happened to the breathtaking Scientific Innovations of the Republic Biafra between 1967 and 1970. Ask Brother Ezekiel Izuogu what happened to the big Dream that would have birthed an authentic beginning of Made-In-Nigeria Vehicles. Ask Brother Barth Nnaji what his experiences so have so far been in the heroic attempt to erect an Electric Power Plant to resuscitate the Dead Aba Industrialization Dreams. Ask Brother Innocent Chukwuma how close the Dream of Innoson Motors came to being Killed by Unitary Nigeria, but for President Jonathan’s Intervention sought by Peter Obi and Facilitated by Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

As we mark the graves of the innumerable Dead Dreams that were Killed by Unitary Nigeria, we must begin to brace up for the Funeral Procession of the Dream-Eating Unitary Nigeria itself as the MNN Alliance Undertakers put finishing touches to the interment of the Rogue 1999 Constitution and the Toxic Dream-Killer Union it foists. The Funeral Procession for Unitary Nigeria will be heralded by the Constitutional Force Majeure Being Deployed by the Victims of Unitary Nigeria to Take Down the Dream-Killing Monster called “the 1999 Constitution”. Let those who have the capacity to reason join the Inevitable Task of Self-Extrication even as those who prefer the folly of building of building their Nigeria on a Damaged Constitutional Foundation continues in their Obdurate march to another round of Elections in 2023.

Body mass index (BMI) is a measure of body fat based on height and weight that applies to adult men and women.

You can calculate your BMI online.

BMI over 30 means you are at high risk with COVID-19.

We are a FAT race, whether we live in Africa or abroad we eat a lot and eat too much oil and starch. So we are FAT.

FAT/OBESE people are at higher risk.

You say you like your food too much. It's Ok. Keep on overeating. Coro will find you and take you away.

OBESITY IS THE BIGGEST 'CHRONIC' RISK FACTOR FOR CORONAVIRUS HOSPITALIZATIONS, LARGEST US STUDY OF COVID-19 FINDS
By CONNOR BOYD HEALTH REPORTER FOR MAILONLINE
14 April 2020

Old and obese people are more likely to be hospitalised with the coronavirus than cancer or lung disease patients, research suggests.
Two New York University studies looking at 8,000 patients found being over 65 or having a BMI above 30 were the biggest risk factors for COVID-19 admissions.

It found that while age was the biggest risk factor, the health condition that was most strongly associated with serious illness was obesity. The report said: "The chronic condition with the strongest association with critical illness was obesity, with a substantially higher odds ratio than any cardiovascular or pulmonary disease."
A separate study found patients under 60 are twice as likely to need hospital care or ventilation if they were obese, making it the second biggest risk factor.
The researchers said 'surprisingly' there was no association between smoking and an increased risk of falling seriously ill with the virus.

The researchers found is that 'in the decision tree for admission, the most important features were being over 65 and obesity.'
The authors said they were 'surprised' that 'cancer and lung disease did not feature more prominently in the risk models'.

In a separate paper, researchers at NYU Langone Health highlighted obesity as the main driver behind patients under 60 needing hospital care.
The report, which was published in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases, looked at the records of 3,615 patients who tested positive between March 4 and April 4.
It found those with a BMI of more than 30 were almost twice as likely to be admitted to the hospital for acute and critical care.
'Unfortunately, obesity in people [under 60] is a newly identified epidemiologic risk factor, which may contribute to increased morbidity rates experienced in the US,' the researchers wrote in the study.
Studies have shown obese people are more likely to suffer serious complications or die from infections, such as the flu.
Doctors say the immune systems of fat people are constantly ramped up as they try to protect and repair the damage inflammation causes to cells.

Using all its energy fending off inflammation means the body's defence system has few resources left to defend against a new infection like COVID-19.
Obese people also tend to eat a diet with very little fiber and antioxidants - which keep the immune system healthy - such as fruit and vegetables.
Excess weight makes it more difficult for the diaphragm and lungs to expand and inhale oxygen. Starved of oxygen, organs will begin to fail.

These factors may explain why obese people's lungs tend to deteriorate faster when the new coronavirus strikes, compared to a healthy person.
It comes after an NHS report indicated that coronavirus patients from black and ethnic minority backgrounds may be at higher risk of suffering deadly complications.

Despite making up just 13 per cent of the UK population, a third of patients who fall critically ill with COVID-19 are from black, Asian or minority ethnic (BME) groups.
The report, by the Intensive Care National Audit and Research Centre, found 14 per cent were Asian, 14 per cent black and 7 per cent described themselves as other.

The study of 2,249 patients has raised fears non-white communities could suffer a disproportionate amount of deaths during the pandemic.
Members of ethnic minority communities are twice as likely to be affected by poverty, and are often hit the hardest by disease'.
Those living in poverty smoke and drink alcohol more and are more likely to be obese - all of which increase the likelihood of chronic health conditions.

Nigerians and Africans, before we as we like to do, shout RACISM, let's add truth first.

Africans, especially Nigerians who live in China ILLEGALLY have not been able to get COVID-19 test because of fear of DEPORTATION if they go for the test as their passport will show they should NOT be in China.

So Chinese know that Africans, especially NIGERIANS live illegally so won't be tested for Coronavirus, so are risk of disease and infecting others.

It is that same DISHONESTY that is tracking us around the world. NOT RACISM! We can lie among ourselves (while we are alive).

We know that DISHONESTY means NOTHING to the Nigerian as long as he is making money for self.

We Nigerians think it is our RIGHT to stay anywhere on earth illegally if we make money. And our family members back in Nigeria are happy with it because we send them money.

It is NOT always RACISM but is our DISHONESTY. Let's get it straight.

Here is someone's tweet about Nigerians/Africans living illegally in China.

UPROAR AS MCDONALD'S 'BANS BLACK PEOPLE FROM ENTERING THEIR STORE IN A CHINESE CITY OUT OF FEARS THEY MIGHT HAVE CORONAVIRUS'
By EMILIA JIANG FOR MAILONLINE
14 April 2020 |

• A viral video shows a notice which read 'black people are not allowed to enter'
• The store is said to be based in Guangzhou, home to 13,600 African migrants
• The US chain was accused of racial discrimination as the video sparked outrage
• Guangzhou said today that 111 African citizens had tested positive for COVID-19
• Comes as Africans described racism and discrimination from Chinese residents

A McDonald's restaurant in China has allegedly banned black people from entering the store out of fears that they might be coronavirus carriers.

A video recently circulating online showed a customer holding a sign that read: 'We've been informed from now on black people are not allowed to enter the restaurant.' The store is believed to be located in the southern Chinese city Guangzhou.
The footage sparked uproar online after the fast-food chain was accused of fuelling the rising xenophobia, particularly towards African nationals, in the country.
McDonald‘s said the notice 'is not representative of our inclusive values'. The US fast-food giant has temporarily closed the branch, according to a statement.

The incident came after African officials confronted China publicly and in private over racist mistreatment of Africans in the Chinese city of Guangzhou.
The notice, written in English, said the prohibition was established out of concerns for the customers' health.
'For the sake of your health, consciously notify the local police for medical isolation, please understand the inconvenience caused.'
The video, uploaded by a Twitter account Black Livity China, sparked outrage on social media.
'Banning black people is f****** insane. The world needs to know about this. China calls racism all the time, this is REAL racism,' one commenter wrote.

Another one read: 'I feel sorry for what black people are going through in China. I'm Chinese, but I absolutely support you to fight for your rights. No one should be treated like this.'

McDonald's said in a statement today that the Guangzhou branch has temporarily closed due to the incident.
'As a brand, as a company and as more than 2.2 million people serving nearly 120 countries around the world, this is not representative of our inclusive values,' the statement read.

'Immediately upon learning of an unauthorized communication to our guests at a restaurant in Guangzhou, we immediately removed the communication and temporarily closed the restaurant.

‘As part of the temporary closure of this restaurant, we will take the opportunity to further educate managers and employees on our values, which includes serving all members of the communities in which we operate.'

The US company's franchise businesses in mainland China and Hong Kong have been mostly owned by a state-owned company CITIC since 2017.

As China prepares for a second wave of COVID-19 cases to hit their cities, Africans living in the commercial hub 'Little Africa' - found in the Yuexiu district - said they've been discriminated against and faced racism.
A U.S. Embassy security alert on Saturday said that 'police ordered bars and restaurants not to serve clients who appear to be of African origin,' and local officials have launched mandatory testing and self-quarantine for 'anyone with 'African contacts'.'

Some Africans have even described being suddenly evicted from their homes.
Since April 4, Guangzhou Health Commission has screened 4,553 African nationals currently living in the city, according to an official yesterday. A total of 111 residents were found to be infected with the coronavirus.
The city officials recorded 13,652 African citizens living in Guangzhou in December 2019. Less than half of them have remained in the city after the outbreak began, the authorities said yesterday.

'We have provided African nationals with the exact same nucleic acid testing procedures as we do for Chinese and other foreign nationals,' Chen Yongqiu, deputy chief police officer of Guangzhou, told the press.
'We appointed the same quarantine hotels and staff members. There is no discrimination or racism.'

Africans in Guangzhou also claimed they have shunned by others in public and targeted for additional COVID-19 tests without ever seeing the results.
'There is an escalating scrutiny of foreign nationals, but they are targeting the Africans and the African American community. Since last Thursday we saw 114 new cases reported in Guangzhou of coronavirus infections and 16 of those were Africans,' said journalist Sarah Clarke for Al Jazeera.
'We've seen a number of reports from social media from members of the African community in Guangzhou making complaints of mistreatment, arrests, eviction and being denied access to restaurants and hotels, and some students are even claiming to be living on the streets and being denied food,' she added.

It comes as authorities in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou have been investigating a possible series of community transmission of the killer bug after five Nigerian nationals were infected with the deadly disease.
Four of them had recently visited the same eatery 'Emma Food' multiple times, announced the Guangzhou Health Commission on April 7. The restaurant owner, along with her daughter and another child, later tested positive for the contagion.

The coronavirus epidemic erupted in China after dozens of people suffering 'mysterious viral pneumonia' were linked to the same seafood market in Wuhan. Guangzhou is situated 1,028 kilometres (638 miles) south of the former epicentre.

Guangzhou is also one of China's major trading and garment industry hubs, attracting many merchants from around the world. The coastal city is also reportedly home to Asia's largest African migrant population.

Experts have warned that the surge of 'imported cases' and asymptotic patients could trigger a new wave of outbreak, spoiling the nation's progress to curb the epidemic.

The authority has urged officials to step up monitoring 'scattered infections' and possible 'regional outbreaks', triggered by non-native cases and patients with no symptoms.

PoliticsWho Are The Poorest Of The Poor In Nigeria? By Bayo Oluwasanmi by meavox(op): 7:23pm On Apr 14, 2020
WHO ARE THE POOREST OF THE POOR IN NIGERIA?
By Bayo Oluwasanmi
Sahara Reporters, April 13, 2020

The riches of the few in Nigeria are an injustice to the multitude of poor Nigerians. I lay awake in the night thinking of the inhuman conditions in the land. The poor majority stagers to the rest of humanity needing love and facing their own death.

In this part of the world, citizens are not free to share what nature offers here. They are not allowed to explore or maximise their God-given potentials into which they are born. Throughout, their lives have been sealed into laden slums as into living tombs.

Those running the federal, state, and local governments are terrible people. They are cannibals and wolves, who destroyed Nigeria and Nigerians. They treat Nigerians as sub-humans. The distribution of Federal Government’s stimulus package to soften the effects of lockdown on Nigerians as a result of Coronavirus, is yet another example of a government that serves as enemy of its own citizens.

As usual, members of National Assembly abdicated their duty on the stimulus package by failing to initiate the stimulus package bill as to who gets what. Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Sadiya Umar Farouq, said 11 million Nigerians are on the National Social Register, and have been receiving monthly stipends of N5,000 since 2016. Under the program, 2.6 million households are qualified to receive Conditional Cash Transfer payments and for the distribution of food items during the Coronavirus lockdown.

The Federal Government is being run like a feudal administration with archaic system, primitive ideas, and ancient methods. For one thing, there’s no reliable census figures to make projections and economic plans. For another, no available data to ensure equitable distribution of resources and or emergency special programs like the stimulus package. In the absence of these two key planning indicators, the government relies on crude and non-transparent methods to distribute the stimulus package.

It was reported that the stimulus will be distributed among the poorest of the poor. According to Farouq, community based target was used to identify poor Nigerians. She said community leaders were asked to identify poor families in their various communities. This method is not transparent or reliable. It is obvious that the community leaders will register their families and friends and collect money from “outsiders” to be included in the register.

Billions of naira was shared within days without reaching the poorest of the poor. The important questions that beg for answers are: Who are the poorest of the poor in Nigeria? What were the criteria used by the Federal Government to identify and determine the poorest of the poor? What evidence to show that the poor got what we were told they received?

In a country where unemployment is off the roof, where citizens live on average of $1-$2 a day, where average life span is 45, where workers work for months and even years without being paid, where minimum wage is N30,000, where pensioners live as destitute, where 13 million school-age children roam the streets for food as scavengers, where majority live in the slums, where the country is the poverty capital of the world and the saddest place to live, where 99 per cent live on alms. With the exception of the one per cent rich, the rest of the country constitute the poorest of the poor.

Since 99.9 per cent of Nigerians constitute the poorest of the poor, it is fraudulent and wicked on the part of the government to discriminate among the poorest of the poor in the distribution of the stimulus package. In US, Canada, Britain, and other civilized nations, stimulus package was based on different methods. For example, in the US according to USA Today, here’s how the stimulus package is disbursed: “Treasury Secretary, Steven Mnuchin, says those who file joint tax returns will get up to $2,400.

“The payments will be sent via direct deposit to Americans who already have provided the Internal Revenue Service with their bank account information. For those who haven’t, the checks will be mailed. If you've already filed your 2019 taxes, the IRS will use those returns to determine your rebate. If not, your 2018 returns will be used to calculate your check.

“Individuals with an adjusted gross income of $75,000 or less will be eligible for up to $1,200 ($2,400 for joint tax returns) and $500 for each qualifying child.

“Those with little or no tax liability also will get $1,200 ($2,400 for joint returns). The payments will start to phase out for Americans who earn more than $75,000, or $150,000 for a joint return. The amount you receive will be decreased by five per cent of the amount your income exceeds $75,000. For example, a single person with an $85,000 salary would get $700 after subtracting 5% of $10,000, or $500.”

Over N21bn has been donated to the Federal Government by titans of industry and other public figures in Nigeria as their contribution to cushion the economic impact of Coronavirus. But why sending money to a corrupt government? After all, the money will end up in private pockets. Both the Federal Government and donors should have sent the money to individuals via their BVN.

Also, the N20,000 for each individual is too small to make a dent in the economic hardship faced by the poor. At least, nothing less than N100,000 should be a reasonable threshold.

Meanwhile, with pockets of protests by hungry and frustrated citizens popping up around the country due to the lockdown without food, money, water, and light, Buhari may be the guest of the very revolution he fears so much. shocked grin

• Police have detained the 47-year-old for allegedly launching the brutal attack
• Local police say he will be prosecuted when he recovers from the coronavirus

A Nigerian coronavirus patient has been detained for allegedly attacking and biting a Chinese nurse on her face in a bid to escape from isolation.
Okonkwonwoye Chika Patrick, 47, savagely beat up the nurse, known by her surname Wang, after she stopped him from leaving his quarantine ward at a hospital in Guangzhou on Wednesday.

Shocking footage shows the nurse bursting into tears as her swollen face is covered with bruises and lacerations.
Local police said the detained patient is receiving treatment under quarantine with police supervision. He will be prosecuted accordingly to Chinese laws after recovery.

Mr Okonkwonwoye had been treated at the Guangzhou Eighth People’s Hospital since March 23.
He tested positive for the coronavirus after arriving in Guangzhou city of southern China from abroad on March 20.
When Ms Wang asked Mr Okonkwonwoye to take a blood test on April 1, the patient ignored her and attempted to walk out of his quarantine ward.
The Chinese nurse was pushed to the ground and bitten on the face when she tried to stop the Nigerian citizen from leaving, according to a police statement.

Ms Wang is said to have suffered multiple injuries to her face, neck and waist.
Mr Okonkwonwoye is receiving anti-virus treatment under supervised isolation by the police.
The Guangzhou police said they have been investigating the incident and will ‘immediately carry out prosecution once the treatment is finished.’
‘At the moment, the patient still tests positive,’ the police statement read. ‘The hospital has strengthened its security measures in the internal isolation zone.

'The police would like to stress again that all inbound travellers should strictly comply with the relevant laws and anti-virus regulations in China,' the statement continued……

A friend has just said that crabs = the niggaz

That crabs is a more acceptable word for niggaz.

We have them plenty in Nigeria, those who don't like "big grammar" when they see an intelligent Nigerian who speaks well, but they will worship any Oyeebo who is intelligent and speaks well.

It is that Nigerian who boasts of the rough uneducated lifestyle.

We have too many crabs among Black people.

IDENTIFIED - THOSE WHO STOP BLACK PEOPLE AND BLACK NATIONS FROM PROGRESSING

We will get there one day.

Dr Martin Luther King prophesied that just before he was assassinated. He said, “…And I've seen the Promised Land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that WE, AS A PEOPLE, WILL GET TO THE PROMISED LAND!” (From: I've Been to the Mountaintop speech)

But we need to throw away the crabs from among us. The crabs are today the real enemies of the Black Race. Through the crabs, foreigners can enslave us. Because of the crabs our leaders can oppress us and keep our countries backwards.

THE CRAB

The crab: A Black person who shows negative traits that hinder the progress of the community. A crab wants to act "dumb", and be uneducated. He/she wants the world to think Black people live in the ghetto and that Black life is about drugs and violence and sex. The crab is anti-intellectual and prefers a debased existence for self and for other Black people. He/she tries to hide their inadequacies by accusing progressive and enlightened Black people of "acting White". The crab tends to be a non-achiever and prefers that all Black people are that too. He/she exhibits the "crab in a barrel" mentality as a lifestyle choice.

Examples:
1) Dewayne, nobody in the neighbourhood can study so please turn down the volume of your stereo, you noisy crab!

2) There goes Dewayne, he's such a crab and wants to play the "gangsta".

CHADIAN PRESIDENT TAUNTS NIGERIA FOR RELEASING BOKO HARAM INSURGENTS
The Cable
Saturday, April 11 2020

Idriss Déby, Chadian president, has directed his soldiers not to allow their Nigerian counterparts free captured Boko Haram insurgents.

Chadian troops had, a week ago, launched an offensive against the insurgents in the Goje-Chadian area of Sambisa forest, a stronghold of Boko Haram.

Scores of the insurgents were killed and the Chadian soldiers took over their arms’ store in the area.

In a viral video, Déby is seen telling the troops that if freed, the insurgents would come to Chad to hurt them.

“This place will be our zone until Nigeria sends its soldiers. Stay with them for about a month. Do not let them free captured weapons or any Boko Haram terrorists, they will return to Chad and this will just hurt us,” he said.

“So let them just understand. We are not leaving the situation like this. In the next few days, I will speak with the President of Niger. You guys destroyed at least 90 percent of Boko Haram. That I confirm and can tell the world that 90 percent of Boko Haram is destroyed.

“The 10 percent that are left are running everywhere. Some have drowned and some ran to Niger, some to Nigeria but they will never come to Chad again. Chad is no place for Boko Haram.”

In March 2015, Déby said Nigeria was absent from the war against Boko Haram.

In 2016, the Nigerian army had launched Operation Safe Corridor, an initiative for the deradicalisation and rehabilitation of all ex-Boko Haram members, an idea some soldiers kicked against.

HOW THE BASIC NIGERIAN EMAIL SCAM EVOLVED INTO SOPHISTICATED MALWARE ATTACKS ON CORPORATES
Quartz Africa April 10, 2020
By Yomi Kazeem
Africa reporter

Nigerian internet fraudsters, best known for romance scams and infamous business propositions from “Nigerian princes,” are now operating with a lot more sophistication.

Last August, a major bust by the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) offered some insight into the growing scale and capabilities of Nigerian online fraudsters. Federal agents arrested 14 fraudsters operating within the US as part of a prolific network of scammers and named 66 others in a 252-count federal grand jury indictment. The fraudsters had defrauded victims of up to $10 million in one of the “largest cases of its kind in US history.” In total, the ring had attempted to steal $40 million from victims in 10 countries as well as the US.

A new report by Palo Alto Networks, a California-based cyber-security company which says it has researched Nigerian cyber-crime for five years, tries to show how these fraudsters have become a lot more proficient at scams over the past five years, employing more sophisticated tactics and tools to carry out Business Email Compromise (BEC) scams. It’s a long way from the classic “Yahoo Yahoo boys” scams 15 odd years ago.

While Nigerian actors were previously classed as “emerging” with regard to malware attacks, recent evidence suggests they “have evolved to a point where they are demonstrating signs of maturity consistent with established threat groups in their delivery techniques, malware packaging, and technical abilities,” Palo Alto Networks’ report notes. Last year, the firm’s malware tracking service identified around 27,000 samples of malware associated with Nigerian actors.

The researchers note the “dominant proportionality and sheer enormity” of BEC scam attempts from Nigerian actors. Last year, BEC scam attempts from these fraudsters resulted in an average of 92,739 attacks per month—172% increase from 2018.

Here’s how BEC scams work: fraudsters use hacked email accounts to convince businesses or individuals to make payments that are either bogus or similar to actual payments owed to legitimate companies. As part of the scam, fraudsters also learn about key personnel in companies who are responsible for those payments as well as the protocols necessary to perform wire transfers in various companies. They then target businesses and individuals that regularly perform such wire transfer payments.

Around $1.7 billion in losses were attributed to BEC attacks last year, more than losses to romance scams, phishing, identity theft, credit card fraud and ransomware, according to the annual report of the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center.

The antics of these fraudsters have come at a wider cost for most Nigerians, as students, business people and tourists are often subject to extra scrutiny from international payment platforms, potential business partners and embassies for visa applications. While successive Nigerian governments have made significant efforts to curb international online fraud from the source at home by awarding notable powers to its anti-fraud agency, the state of the country’s weak economy and large swathes of educated, unemployed young college graduates means fraud is still seen by some as being worth the risk.

However, while growing sophisticated in their methods, Nigerian online fraudsters still “remain indiscriminate in their targeting” with attacks attempted on small and large businesses, healthcare companies as well US government institutions. However, high-tech companies bore the largest brunt of these efforts recording around 313,000 attacks last year—more than double the number in 2018.

And yet, the digital persona linked with young Nigerians has started to change markedly in recent years given several success stories in the country’s fledgling tech ecosystem over the last decade. Nigerian tech startups, innovating to solve many of the country’s systemic problems—from digital payments to online education—have attracted the most funding across Africa last year from major investors.

Nigerian software developers have also become widely sought after beyond the country’s shores, partly prompting a $100 million dollar bet on African development talent by software giant, Microsoft.

But even in Nigeria, local police have often “profiled” young men with laptops as online fraudsters as an excuse for harassment and extortion. This has led to significant protests and crowdfunding legal aid by the burgeoning tech community.

PoliticsGroup Warns Yoruba Against Political Romance With Sanusi - Punch, 23 March 2020 by meavox(op): 9:16am On Apr 10, 2020
GROUP WARNS YORUBA AGAINST POLITICAL ROMANCE WITH SANUSI
Punch
March 23, 2020
By Oluwatosin Omojuyigbe

A pan-Yoruba group, Yoruba United Front, has called on the people of the South-West to be wary of the deposed Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi Il, saying his antecedents show him as an ethnic bigot and a hater of the Yoruba people.

In a statement by its National President, Alhaji Raimi Ali, and National Secretary, Deacon Samuel Aderanti, on Sunday, the group said it was surprised that Sanusi who had earlier declared the Yoruba as the problem of Nigeria would seek asylum in Lagos.

The group warned Yoruba leaders, especially politicians, to be wary of Sanusi’s antics, saying he had a mission to achieve “otherwise why did he chose Lagos why not Kaduna or any northern city?”

The group said, “What does Sanusi really want? That is the question every right-thinking Yoruba person should be asking and why is he taking Yoruba land as a place of refuge now that he has problem with his kinsmen.

“The Yoruba people will never forget the diatribes of Sanusi who excoriated the icons of Oduduwa land in a 1999 speech where he described the entire Yoruba leadership as an ‘Area Boy’ institution.

“He lambasted the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo and other revered Yoruba leaders in petty, bitter, tribalistic usages. He even claimed that Alhaji Shehu Shagari was overthrown in 1983 because Chief Awolowo lost the Presidency.

“It is rather ironic, sickening and absolutely unacceptable that this same Sanusi will choose the Yoruba heartland, which he once condemned in the most violent language, as a place of succor when his own people have disowned him. We urge our people to be wary of this man whose agenda and purpose are puzzling and dubious.”

The group, therefore, warned Yoruba leaders not “to allow Sanusi who is an ethnic bigot to systematically build a Fulani camp in Lagos.”
It said, “We should be wary and ask him what exactly he wants in Yorubaland. Those Yoruba lackeys rushing to visit him either in form of old school students’ association or whatever form should remember Sansui’s past, his hatred of anything Yoruba and should realise that Sanusi is a rabid, radical Islamist who should not be treated as a pan-Nigerian patriot.”

PoliticsGari War Before The Lockdown - Basil Okoh by meavox(op): 8:47am On Apr 10, 2020
GARI WAR BEFORE THE LOCKDOWN
Basil Okoh
April 3, 2020

Effurun Market and many other markets across Delta State was embroiled in a war of sorts a day before the Government declared lockdown. Youth in their bare chests took the fight to the women selling garri and other local food products to force down prices.

They were not roiled by the price rise in competing imported food items like semolina, noodles, pasta, rice, fish or even beef. They were only angry at the market women who sell garri, yams and other locally grown food.

At the same time as the mayhem was going on at Effurun, Igbudu, Gana, Baleke, Ogbe, Ogbeogonogo and all other markets across the state, the dollar was jumping from N360 to N425 at the exchange markets. Now you ask the question all Ignorant Nigerians ask all the time. What has the price of the dollar got to do with a local product like gari?

You see, glyphosate and paraquat, in their many brand names, are the weed control chemicals preferred by Nigerian farmers. They are imported with the dollar. So are the machinery for processing cassava tubers to gari and the vehicles for bringing the finished product to the lazy youth in the city. So the price of gari is also dependent on the price of the dollar.

A 5kg bag of Semolina jumped from N1200 to N2200, a crate of eggs from N800 to N1400, 50kg bag of rice from N18,000 to N30,000, a kg of medium sized croaker fish from N1,500 to N2,500. And so it went across the food markets.

A hundred kg bag of garri which takes fourteen months and intense labour to produce sold for less than Five thousand naira. Imported rice of same 100kg which takes four months to produce, sells now for thirty thousand naira.

It’s easier to beat up the garri seller lugging a baby on her back than to even meet the rice importers at their lair in Ajao Estate, Lagos. It’s harder yet to meet Dangote and the Lebanese and Indians at Stallion. They are the importers of rice licensed by the Federal Government, to supplement the rice they fail to produce in their local farms.

Our people say when you meet someone you can beat, you get hungry for a fight. The youth of Delta can beat up the market women but cannot go near Dangote or the Chagouri brothers, the well heeled major importers of rice. They actually admire these people. Every slave loves his master.

Ask any youth in Delta what it costs to produce a hundred kilogram of garri and you will be shaken by the answers you get. Most do not even know how garri, their local staple from cassava is produced. Many cannot identify a cassava plant in the farm or bush. One told me “is it not to put the thing in the ground and go back after sometime to harvest?

This is the age of ignorance in Nigeria and the youth are the purveyors of ignorance. For the rest of the world, this is the age of Aquarius, the age of knowledge, of digital science, artificial intelligence, robotics and Drones Engineering.

The youth that go beat up traders at Effurun and other markets for high prices of their food staple all left their villages running from farm work. Youth from Northern Nigeria have become the dominant labour force available for agricultural work in Delta State and most of Southern Nigeria. Northern youth know the nooks and crannies of our farms and forests in Southern Nigeria.

The farmer is a despised and hated citizen who is also derided for being poor by his richer cousins in towns and cities, including the urban poor. His poverty is the butt of jokes and his job offers no inspiration or attraction for the coming generation. And yet he will be beaten up for trying to improve his income and his station.

The farmer, without support from Government or anyone, without a reliable income and definitely without pension to support his old age, must choose now whether to continue to provide for an ungrateful population on his own terms or allow the decadent youth to continue to enforce a price of products they do not make.

For the Farmers children must go to the same schools, he must pay medical bills, have air-conditioners in his house and enjoy the standard of living as the others who don’t work as hard. We are in this world together and no one was born to serve the other.

The farmer is described in Government literature as “peasant” and is required to play the role of poor cousin as self- fulfilling prophesy for Government classifications. You visit the village, he loads up your car with free food. Yams, gari, plantains, egusi and other vegetables. And you give him a few hundred naira and expect him to think the world of you.

The farmers of yesteryears were seen as peasants who deserve no better than pittances because they were uneducated and provincial. But the farmer of today has changed. He is as educated as the civil servant wielding pens for a living in a Government office.

The City dwellers who mostly do not add value to the economy expect to be fed by the farmer at the price they want, to keep the farmer permanently poor and despised. Why should gari cost more than five hundred naira, they always ask? Is it not produced locally? They would wish to fix the price of goods they do not produce. And they do that only for the local farmer. They do not fix prices for Toyota, Samsung, Asian noodles or Vietnamese rice.

Farming in Delta State today, even of the commercial variety, is only marginally profitable. Farmers just get by without any form of support from their Government. From land preparation to seeds quality and crop protection to harvesting and processing equipment, there’s no service, support or subsidy offered by Government.

Every Government in the world supports it’s farmers through various forms of subsidy and subsidy issues form the sticky point in every trade negotiation in agricultural products.

The Delta State farmer invests in a State where N3 billion advanced by the Central Bank for onward lending to Farmers in the state at single digit interest rate, never got to a single famer. No, not a Kobo of the N3 billion. And no, the youth never beat up the officials involved in the heist.

The youth live in the state where since 1991, when the state was created, there has not been any major investment in agriculture or to support farming in the state. Agricultural Extension services have been dead in the state for decades. The aged extension workers who remain idle in their homes don’t know a jot better than the Farmers they are meant to serve.

The youth of Delta live in a state where there were only four (4) half dead tractors in 2015 to service over a million Farmers. Sorry, there were also about ninety knocked down parts also called tractors auctioned off to co-operative groups which when assembled by local mechanics didn’t take six months before all crumbled and scattered in different locations in the state.

Not a single one remains functional in the state today. In contrast, Bauchi state bought a thousand tractors in one year to support agriculture in the state. Anambra bought two hundred in a year. In Omor community in Anambra, the largest rice production community in Southern Nigeria, there are over a thousand tractors serving the farms in the community during land preparation and the harvest season.

Today across Delta State, there’s not a single tractor to pulverize the soil for farmers anywhere. There’s no farm power to bolster the size of farms or support crop protection.

There’s not even state intervention to supply viable seeds as the state agency DAPA has no means of certifying seed on its own. Even the best managed farms do not achieve sixty percent germination rates from the planting seeds as against the 96% germination rate recommended by the Nigerian Agricultural Seed Commission (NASC).
Most of the seeds come from Zaria and are only appropriate for Sahel soil. Low productivity, crop pests, diseases and neglect has defeated farm investments and agribusiness in Delta state.

The Igbodo region which during the nineties was emerging as the hub of tomato production in Southern Nigeria, acknowledged back then by the Nigerian Horticultural Institute (NIHORT), Idi Ishin, Ibadan has fallen into bad times and no more than a tonne of tomatoes is produced annually by a few Farmers in the once thriving market.

The state Government has never tried to find out or research into the cause of such crop failures and economic losses and then provide remedy. The yellow yam, like so many other crops, is going into extinction as outputs has fallen drastically in Delta State and nobody cares to find out why. Plantation agriculture in Oil Palm, Rubber, Cocoa, crops which awarded economic leadership to the area throughout the decades, are all dead.

During the Goodluck Jonathan Presidency, Dr. Alfred Akinwumi, Minister for Agriculture, allocated 32 number 75HP Tractors with all the implements to the Delta State Government at the heavily subsidized prices of N3,500,00 each, inclusive of tractor and implements.

For more than two years, these machinery and equipment lay in waste at Sheda, near Gwagwalada, as no one from the Delta State Government went to take them. The Federal Ministry of Agriculture was forced to sell them off to other states and individual buyers.

Again in the same period, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture allocated through the The Nigerian Institute For Oil Palm Research (NIFOR) three million (3,000,000) Oil Palm seedlings, sprouted and growing, to Delta State at the subsidized price of N3 per seedling.

No one in the Delta State Government claimed the seedlings except for the then Secretary to the State Government who bought off a hundred thousand seedlings for his private farm. This farm of one hundred hectares remain the biggest Oil Palm plantation investment in Delta State, where PRESSCO Farms, Obayantor in Edo State has extended to 45,000 Hectares. And it’s just one of many.

Livestock, particularly poultry farming is just marginally surviving. New investors are opening farms while the older farms are closing.

The state ministry of agriculture lies possum and ravished like an old LovePeddler, wondering how it lost the athletism of her youth and the admiration of the men she once served. There are no new ideas, no enthusiasm for work and the place reeks of years of accretion of rot and sheer lack of curiosity and imagination.

Throughout the eight years of Emmanuel Uduaghan, there was no approval for capital expenditures apart from the purchase of ninety fake tractors that couldn’t work for six months. My friend bought one and on the first day at work, the ploughs couldn’t lift and the pump eventually burst, spilling transmission oil everywhere.

The youth do not know about the rising cost of glyphosate, and paraquat the herbicides for weed control in Delta State. High cost of inputs and the inability to buy them is one of the reasons why the youth of Northern Nigeria have taken over the farms of Delta for manual weed control. There are no extension officers to train on maximizing herbicides use or alternative means of weed control.

Delta with Edo State formed the Midwest region of the first republic and it was by far the richest and most economically viable region of Nigeria all through the colonial era to the first republic. The riches of that period was based entirely on agricultural production.

Rubber, Cocoa, Oil Palm and abundant artisanal fish and shrimp production formed the strong and steady plank on which the wealth of the region rested, ahead of all others in Nigeria. This wealth was owned by the people directly, not the petroleum that has today been seized by a rouge Federal Government.

Today, the region is a net importer of all these crops and products in their manufactured forms.

The two state Governments have never taken an introspective look into their state economies to search out what went wrong and their possible remedies. The international commodity crash of the 1980’s and the scrapping of the rigged Marketing Boards removed all assurances of steady prices to attract investment in the commercial agricultural sector.

The booming crude petroleum trade replaced sense with greed, as state Governments traded the wealth of the people for personal gain and personal political advancement. Surreptitiously, all pretensions to oil wealth, whether crude or natural have been seized by northern pirates parading as Federal Government.

It was not because of petroleum that the Niger Delta was named the Oil Rivers in the eighteenth century. Palm Oil which fed the burgeoning industries of England at the time was the priciest article of trade in the region from the Bini River to River Cross and the Creeks of Calabar. The king’s and chieftains of the region traded with the Europeans on equal terms based on treaties signed by both sides.

But today, even with the rich and vast resources outside crude oil, Niger Delta stands in want of good leadership, in want of a true economic buccaneer who will harness these resources and inspire and direct the people back to work and investment in their region.

As the Federal Government has criminalized most indigenous participation in the petroleum oil industry, the only hope for economic regeneration in the region is either to force the hands of Government to return the petroleum industry back to it’s true owners or begin to take agriculture and agricultural processing more serious as investment options.

The youth of Delta are behaving like the Roman Plebeians who would not work but wait for the booties of war in the form of free grains from Egypt and Carthage and believe dependence makes them important citizens of the Republic because of their capacity for social disruption.

They add no value to life, either for themselves or for their society but have a strange sense of self entitlement to the things that they do not contribute in making. The Delta youth are the ones with the energy for work but choose instead to prey on the weak farmer and trader for free loading.

Our advocacy should be for the availability of food, but we must not accept to take on the burden of determining the price of food we do not produce, particularly in an economy where the price of everything else is freed up and rising. Low prices of farm products is the biggest disincentive to investment in agriculture. @basilokoh.

HealthAfrican-americans And Covid-19: What's Going On? Racial Injustice? by meavox(op): 7:16am On Apr 10, 2020
Before ALL Black people begin to blame Whites or Chinese or Everybody Else for why Blacks are suffering more from COVID-19 in USA, here's something to consider.

From a WhatsApp post:

==========================================================================

AFRICAN AMERICANS SEEM TO BE MORE AFFECTED BY COVID-19

Already a sense of paranoia has entered the Black community worldwide because there is some information that African Americans may be more affected by COVID-19. Some are already looking for a cause for this OUTSIDE of the Black community, and without any evidence at all have begun to say that “somehow” White people have done “something”.

People, people, please let us calm down. And THINK.

Let us use Science not Superstition. We know this scientific and medical fact: that African and African-heritage people do have Sickle Cell. Right? It is a GENETIC condition so people are born with it. Sickle Cell Disease affects the Red Blood Cells in the blood and instead of being round, they become like a sickle, that is C-shaped. Red Blood Cells carry OXYGEN so in those with the Disease there is less oxygen in their body.

Because it is a genetic condition, some people may instead have Sickle Cell Trait but show no signs of the disease. However, when there is low OXYGEN some people with Sickle Cell Trait may experience similar complications as those with the Disease.

Now, COVID-19 causes a respiratory illness which means it affects the OXYGEN levels in the body. So people who may for one reason or another already get less oxygen into their body may suffer more from COVID-19. Sickle Cell is such a condition.

Here are some statistics for Sickle Cell among African Americans:
• Sickle Cell Disease occurs in about 1 out of every 365 African-American births.
• Sickle Cell Disease occurs among about 1 out of every 16,300 Hispanic-American births.
• About 1 in 13 African-American babies is born with Sickle Cell Trait.
(Source: CDC, Atlanta, USA)

I am not a physician, but can we now see, using Science why perhaps COVID-19 may affect African Americans more? Research will be done to provide more information on the various factors that affect the prognosis of COVID-19.

Please forward this post as its aim is to get Africans to apply Science more to daily issues.
