Politics › Re: Atiku, Ambition And The Endgame, By Louis Odion by meccuno: 1:12pm On Sep 11, 2019 |
[s] cyrilamx: By Louis Odion Premium Times September 11, 2019 Atiku, Ambition and the Endgame,
So, after all his thunderous imprecations and venomous profiling of the Wazirin Adamawa as “hopelessly corrupt”, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo (OBJ) could not resist the temptation of a N50 million “egunje” from the same tainted hand. Perhaps, our ever sanctimonious patriarch never reckoned the secret would leak.
No less amusing was the explanation offered by the giver when the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) hound uncovered an assortment of fingerprints and footprints of beneficiaries of a staggering €150 million (N60 billion) moneybag that Atiku allegedly laundered ahead of the 2019 polls, of which a consortium of local and foreign marabouts were said to have assured him, with oracular certainty, of a landslide victory. If the last hurdle to Aso Rock was cash, the free-spender from Jada was ready to break the bank, whether in local or hard currency. Without the least regard for logic or shame, Atiku’s spin doctors told us the strange N50 million found in the account of Obasanjo Library was only “a donation” to a “non-profit organisation” involved in humanitarian work.
The gods are surely wise.
Of course, only kindergarten pupils would buy that. Coming after OBJ had literally declared war on the All Progressives Congress (APC) and virtually parlayed any forum available to hurl personal insults at President Muhammadu Buhari (PMB), it must have finally dawned on the more discerning why prescient Professor Wole Soyinka chose to christen Obasanjo’s mammoth Ota edifice “a Laundromat” at its founding more than a decade ago.
How tragic then that those who now wish to be looked upon as the harbingers of Nigeria’s ethical rebirth are, alas, still unable to prove to the nation they had in any way outgrown their old vice of money-sharing rackets.
Well, the danger of astrology is its addictiveness. In his most recent autobiography entitled My Watch, OBJ had, on the basis of stated “research and observation”, characterised his deputy (while president for eight years) as both perennial captive and slave to sorcerers.
So, once assured of the presidential crown by fortune-tellers, it would appear that Atiku has become rather obsessed with becoming king, even if that means sedating himself into a nirvana and dreaming up a magic-realist kingdom in which he is both lord and lone inhabitant.
Only such fixation could indeed explain the desperation, lately, of Atiku and his enablers – mostly lurking in the shadows of cyberspace – to foist the fable of a coming coronation, not on the basis of facts but sheer fantasy.
This psychosis partly manifests in the juvenile twisting of facts by a mob who, apparently scarred by the prospects of languishing for another four years in the political wilderness, now conveniently choose to not only inhabit that fantasyland, but also luxuriate in its numbing make-believe.
It explains their desperation last weekend to exhume the light-hearted words uttered by Lai Mohammed in 2015 as APC spokesman on the needless controversy around Buhari’s certificate, package and re-present this in a totally different context, just to prop their lame argument, which similarly failed to fly five years ago.
It is also the reason the Atiku people would lie shamelessly before the election tribunal that the otherwise thoughtful and compassionate TraderMoni and MarketMoni schemes, initiated by the Buhari administration, was a bribe to induce voters ahead of the 2019 polls.
Apparently failing to do their research properly, they even declared, with a ring of authority, that the funds being disbursed to market women and the vulnerable in our society were extra-budgetary spending. Seriously? But the last time I checked, the twin programmes were approved by the Federal Executive Council and duly funded by the Appropriation Acts of 2017 and 2018.
To be sure, it is quite within the democratic rights of the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party to contest the outcome of the February polls, which gave APC 15,191,847 votes as against his own distant 11,262,978. But it is debatable if the arguments marshalled so far in the past few months by his legal team are convincing enough.
Given the cold letters of the law and legal precedents, it would be herculean indeed to prove the claim of electoral malpractices in a presidential poll. That means the petitioner is saddled with the arduous task of producing witnesses to give testimony proving such infraction in more than 100,000 polling units where the exercise took place.
This requirement is already well stated in the decision of the Supreme Court in Buhari v. Obasanjo (2005) thus: “The very big obstacle that anyone who seeks to have the election of the president or governor upturned is the very large number of witnesses he must call due to the size of the respective constituency. In a country like our own, he may have to call about 250,000 – 300,000 witnesses. By the time the court would have heard from all of them with the way our present law is couched, the incumbent would have long finished and left his office and even if the petitioner finally wins, it will be an empty victory bereft of substance.”
So, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s present case at the presidential election tribunal is anchored primarily on two main legs viz: the INEC server and Buhari’s “lack of school certificate”.
But rather than persuade, the argument on the server has been most amusing. From the outset, no one disputes that the entire polls were premised on the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended). Relentless pressures mounted on President Mohammadu Buhari to assent to a raft of amendments proposed by the Bukola Saraki-led Senate seeking electronic transmission of results did not succeed.
The president’s action was informed by the superior argument that for the purpose of the 2019 polls, much as desirable as electronic transmission would conduce to the sanctity of the ballot, the sad reality was that a considerable ratio of the over 100,000 polling units in 774 councils across the federation and Abuja was yet to be covered by digital networks to experiment with such innovation.
What’s more, an authority no less than the nation’s chief electoral umpire himself did attest, beforehand and without ambiguity, that only a manual transmission of results was applicable in the exercise.
Despite all these unassailable facts, it remains a big puzzle why the Atiku people still chose to gamble with the theory of the electronic server. By the curious calculations of the fictive server, PDP polled 18,356,732 votes ahead of APC’s 16,741,430.
Fine. But the devil is actually in the details. It turned out the Kenyan the petitioner had touted as possessing the “smoking gun” himself admitted, under cross-examination, that the data he tendered was gleaned from the website created two weeks after the results were announced by a faceless “whistle-blower”.
Worse, it was discovered that the IP address of the website is a commercial one patronised by all manner of businessmen in many countries across the world.
More comedy. Again invoking the same “server” like a talisman, the Atiku people had pooh-poohed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) results announced in Borno in favour of Buhari on the grounds that the high numbers were unjustifiable given the ongoing Boko Haram insurgency in the area. But wait a minute – it turned out that the figures allocated to Atiku in the same Borno by the all-knowing “server” are far higher than those of Buhari, which they had faulted vigorously as impossible because of the security issue!
However, the “server” was not bold enough to discredit the figures from Atiku’s own polling unit in his native Adamawa where Buhari entered a symbolic victory by polling 186 to the former’s 167.
On the issue of Buhari’s academic credentials, it is perhaps a measure of PDP’s infinite capacity for mischief that the bogey of “no school cert” is still being retailed till date, having failed woefully to gain traction back in 2015. To begin with, isn’t it amazing that a nation could even be beguiled into entertaining such a doubt about a man whose records clearly confirm had not only attended numerous official courses conferring higher academic status during a career spanning over three decades, but also had the uncommon privilege of leading the country as head of state between 1984 and 1985?
Perhaps the easiest way to validate history is to cite witnesses. Luckily, some of Buhari’s classmates at Provincial Secondary School, Katsina in 1961, are still alive. To prove doubters wrong, the president has even gone the extra mile of making public a black-and-white photograph showing him then in company of classmates, including now retired president of the Court of Appeal, Justice Umaru Abdullahi.
This truth has not been disputed, nor has Justice Abdullahi denied.
On the contrary, it is open secret today that, in their last-ditch effort to rake up muck but in abject ignorance of the confidentiality principle of the English system, PDP’s agents had approached University of Cambridge in the U.K. to ascertain whether Buhari actually sat for school certificate. But seen as “busy-bodies”, the authorities at the British institution declined the applicants. The request was only granted when Buhari’s representative duly applied for the results which was later tendered before the court.
Against this overwhelming backcloth, the rationally minded cannot but wonder what may be giving Atiku and his crowd confidence. Maybe, it is the metaphysics of the marabouts.
Louis Odion is senior technical assistant (media) to the president.

With regards to tribalism, Igbos are not different from the Ijaws. Many Igbo people won't marry from Mbaise. Don't ask me for proof, because if you are not an Igbo impostor, you already know who and why.
There is the recent news of a catholic bishop being rejected because he is not from Mbaise despite being an Igbo man. We haven't forgotten the Umuleri and Aguleri conflict.
Even some minority Igbo clans are suffering politically in various Igbo states.

The deputy has lived his entire life in Bayelsa and is a Niger-Deltan, yet they don't want him.
Not even people within the proposed Niger-Delta republic can tolerate one another. The above is proof that the secessionist who wants Nigeria divided are flatly wrong. and when has there been any time the minorities indicated or are agitating for a separate state like the Igbos? So because of this incident now those who want to chart a course for their path cannot because of what a minority group wants? The Igbos and the Ijaws are very different people. Your logic is wrong. |

I have lived in SA for almost 20 years.
What you see as pure xenophobia is actually community Vigilantism gone wrong or hijacked by criminals.
Some of the shops looted and destroyed are actually covers for a serious crime.
Some of our brothers take over entire areas and turn them into drug markets. But because the law in SA does not allow police to arrest criminals unless with evidence or unless shot at, so what happens is the drug guys hide these drugs in shops, restaurants etc and use as a face. There are up to 30 public "drug" markets in Joburg alone. These are areas where 50 to 200 Nigerians converge on street corners to sell drugs. That's just in Johannesburg, and excludes other places. The community knows and they try to inform the police. Sometimes these guys get arrested and bribe their way out when it fails the community takes laws into their hands.
Nigerians are not being targetted per se. The target is street drug dealers and yahoo boys who are mostly Nigerian.
Personally, in an area of Johannesburg, some years ago, drug dealers almost took over my property. We bought it and in the process of renovation, they invaded it and turned it into a drug hotel. It took God to evict them without being killed. It was led by Nigerians. In that property, there were families with women and children.
One strategy of selling drugs is to befriend young secondary school.Girls and introduce them. They get hooked and they start stealing and prostitution to feed the habit. Soon the entire area deteriorates. Now, why I am sharing this with you is that the drug dealers are distracting attention. They are trying to make the Nigerian Government arise in anger and defend "Nigerians" ie defend drug dealers. if they succeed, they'd have staged a powerful coup. They'd have entered an official mafioso level, protected by Government.
Please see the article below: The Nigeria ambassador to SA said the majority of killings are perpetrated by fellow Nigerians. It's a drug turf war. he is right. I know some who've been killed.
So how can we accuse others of killing us when we are perpetrating it?
Those videos and pictures circulating of Nigerians in SA- how is it that we are shown only in the light of guys on the street? I know top Robotics engineers in SA, I know people in Top IT firms, developers, in Amazon, Google etc, I know top bankers, property company owners, many doctors, Superintendent of hospitals, professors, Pastors, etc.
So in summary here are my thoughts
- A vast majority of upright Nigerians in SA are very comfortable. They are doctors, teachers, business owners, etc. If we don't get the right story, we can set off a diplomatic war, everything collapses and these guys become targets. Currently, they are not being targetted by anyone. many are married to South Africans. Some head Government agencies and private companies.
- Yes, there are some xenophobic South Africans, but just like we fought against stigmatizing Fulani, we must also fight against stigmatizing South Africans. There are VERY many good South Africans, who don't buy into any form of oppression. Let us encourage our government to join with the South African Government and carry out a security raid on drug dealers.
If the Government announces this, you will see they will flee because they'll know the cover is blown! xenophobic attacks will reduce 95%.
The biggest donation event in the history of SA was in 2007 when people gave to victims of xenophobic attacks. The amount given was a record. It shows that the nation is not buying into that mindset.
- Please use your powerful platform to create a voice for good Nigerians in SA. You will be surprised. Many are afraid to talk because even Nigerian organizations in SA are infiltrated and even controlled by drug dealers and kingpins. No one wants to be killed. These guys are very powerful.
- Communities fighting to save themselves should not be hushed but helped to do it in a better way. Not jungle justice. - Yes the SA Government must not also be left without responsibility in the matter, they should be tasked to step up their game too. While Nigeria targets drug dealers and yahoo buys, South Africa should target miscreants and criminals in a joint operation. SA Government also needs to purge bad eggs in its police force who are compromised. It Also needs to take its own share of blame for unemployment, poverty and economic challenges and social issues that allow drugs to be demanded.
I close with a prophecy by Pa Elton
"Africa is like a gun, Nigeria is like a trigger, South Africa is like a barrel
South Africa will be free. It will partner with Nigeria.
When that happens, Africa will arise and lead the world in many ways."
This prophecy was given in the hight of apartheid when it seemed impossible. Today it is half done South Africa has more bilateral agreements with Nigeria than any other nation on earth. We MUST NOT allow miscreants and criminals on both sides to hinder it, because if our national relationship fails, Africa will fail.
This is Buhari's "Mandela" moment. Will he rise up and shake off the pain and anger and mobilize Africa to unify or will he take a position that reverses the building of unity? I think he will do the right thing by God's grace, but I also believe publicizing the truth will help him and citizens.

The major reservation of natives in South Africa is Igbos…. Others are only guilty by association because of the generic view that they are all foreigners…. While other cultures celebrate acts of kindness to each other, The Igbo community celebrate the quest for wealth by any means necessary. If you climb the ladder in Igbo land, you are celebrated, when our fathers tell us to remember the son of whom we are.. theirs told them to make wealth by any means necessary…. Lots of stories abound in history….. The first Igbo scammer was Nwafor Orizu….. he did not care that he was of noble birth ( son of Eze Ugbonyamba)… he scammed his people by opening a fake travel agency to prey on parents who wanted to send their kids to schools in the United States for further studies. He took the scam to the united states and got a pan African who was in the struggle for African independence by the name Horace Bond who was the President of Lincoln University to award scholarship to Igbos…. He did not tell his people about it and still charged them the full amount , many of them left for the university and was stranded when he did not send the balance of the fees…. The president of Lincoln was totally disappointed that any sane person would exploit his people and leave them stranded like Orizu did. His scam was to the tune of 30,000 pounds. A big amount at the time. In 1953, he was jailed for 7 years… Zik and NCNC went on a campaign against the British and insisted he must be released… shortly after his release, Zik singlehandedly nominated him to represent Igbos in the federal legislature and he would emerge to be the first senate president. Our first senate president was a convicted Igbo felon that scammed his people and was rewarded with a position to represent them….. If you don’t find that twisted…. Then ‘you are a nonsense’ Of recent, a woman by the name ‘Amaka Anajemba´ was a part of the crime syndicate that defrauded a bank in Brazil for $242 million. From part of this proceeds, the scammers bought Union Bank and invested heavily in Lagos real estate…. very much as the Igbo guys Tobechi and Ezenwa who defrauded banks in the US for $42 million and invested the money in Lagos.... Amaka Anajemba was prosecuted by Ribadu and sent to Jail…. The day she was released from prison, her community came with drums and music to receive her. She became an instant hero among her people for being a con artist that pulled the biggest bank heist in Africa. Much later, Governor Ieanyi Ugwuanyi appointed Amaka Anajemba as director of Enugu Waste Management Agency. He literarily gave a convicted fraudster an important political appointment just as Zik had done earlier with Orizu. Nwude. On why Southern Cameroon refused to be a part of Nigeria….. Igbos infiltrated their economy and took to vandalism and chaos in the towns and villages. They showed a display of imperialism and treated the women immorally. So much the people of the southern Cameroons organized counter resistance against their immorality and corruption. Three second world war veterans known as Johnny, Walka led militants to attack Igbos at the Kumba market and and at night through vigilante groups. The nso people of southern Cameroon as a group refused Igbos land tenue privileges. In spite of it all, Igbos remained arrogant and overbearing to their hosts. These series of events at the time led to the determination of the people of Cameroon to extricate themselves from Nigeria. After the plebiscite, they forced the Ibos to migrate back to Eastern Nigeria. An uprising politician called Nerius Namaso Mbile was expelled from the Southern Cameroon and his KUNC party dissolved because he chose to retain links with NCNC after the vote of Southern Cameroons to break away. It is the same story in Malaysia, Australia, Thailand and China. A people with no values do anything for money from drug peddling to robbery… use the proceeds to front legitimate businesses in host communities and then beat their chests as developers of the land… throw lavish parties and disrespect the women of their host ….. At a point, the people have enough and fight back and then you give them fancy names…. Call them xenophobics and jealous people…. No… you are infiltrating their lands and they are pushed to the wall. Leave South Africa and leave Yorubaland. We are tired of yoru fake drugs, disrespect and constant siding with the enemy to frustrate Yoruba people. when I talk of division this is one reason why I make that statement. |

[s] Astark: I remember those years when the rest of Nigerians mostly Yoruba' Igbo's were laughing and mocking Edo people because of human trafficking and prostitution abroad. Even on facebook newspapers pages and YouTube comment sections, you'll see them telling the world that they are not Nigerians but from Edo state.
What did Edo government do? They started looking for solutions and it worked, both the oba of Benin and the present governor plus the speaker have been seriously working to stop it, they came up with various means of stop trafficking. Every time the Libya returnees return home, they will laugh and mock at least they are home.
When will say Igbo's are the majority in crimes abroad and destroying Nigeria image, they will call it tribalism and hatred for Igbo's. From morroco to Saudi Arabia to Indonesia's, India,USA,China, south Africa, Ghana ,Kenya etc there are thousands of Igbo's there in prison and most are awaiting death penalty. They will never see home again.
The worst of it all is their leaders are busy looting and enriching their pocket while their people are in jail and getting killed abroad. They need to do something and they needs to do it fast. [/s] a very senseless post. |

[s] Sanchez01: Nonsense! If this useless human think the best time to play politics is now, then I say to blazes with him and his home! What prevents him from leading Nigerians to closing up South African companies here in Nigeria?
This is a national issue and it honestly can't be tackled or resolved using threats. While I condemn the acts of these guys, Nigerians are not the only nationals affected. Plus, this is a ripple effect of the massive criminal activities of majority of Nigerians living in South Africa.
Where was Reno when reports emerged about 'Nigerians' caught in the act of trafficking Ghanaians and even South African teenagers? What were his responses or reactions to daily drug reports of Nigerians in Asia and Africa at large? What was his response when 77 Nigerians were apprehended by the FBI for a massive fraud of over $1 billion? Has he ever mentioned anything against or concerning the influx of Nigerians in Ghana doing nothing?
Buhari is a disaster and a disgrace to Nigeria but he is not responsible for the many crimes Nigerians commit abroad. And as much as there are unfortunate Nigerians caught in the cross fire, it is inevitable given the crime culture and the get rich quick mentality of some persons.
No one would tell me that most Nigerians in South Africans are legit business folks. This is what happens when crime is being reinforced with titles and recognition. The unfortunate part of this whole thing are the innocent Nigerians who have been true to their hustle in South Africa.
The so called Xenophobia didn't start today. As a matter of fact, it gained prominence under Jonathan till it died a while. Where was Reno then?
The FFK I know would have published a four-paged article laced with superfluous words on why Nigerians are disgracing the country abroad but he is quiet today for obvious reasons while this serial loser of a human with beards like a he-goat thought to make this an ethnopolitical affair. Nonsense! [/s] |
