[s] IgbereBlog: FALANA & FALANA CHAMBERS September 24, 2019
Mr. Eze Anaba, The Editor, Vanguard Newspaper, Apapa, Lagos.
Re: N90 bn FIRS election fund, Osinbajo's problem, not 2023 politics-Frank
We are solicitors to Professor Yemi Osinbanjo SAN, the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (hereinafter referred to as “our client”) on whose behalf and instructions we write this letter.
Our client’s attention has been drawn to your highly libelous story entitled “N90 bn FIRS election fund, Osinbanjo’s problem, not 2023 politics-Frank” recklessly published in the Vanguard newspaper edition of September 23, 2019.
In the story credited to one Comrade Timi Frank, your newspaper informed your large readership that our client’s travail “has nothing to do with 2023 but alleged mismanagement of about N90 Billion Naira (sic) released by the Federal Inland Revenue Inland Service (FIRS) to prosecute the last general elections in favour of the APC”.
The false contextual background and specific untrue and defamatory statement include the following:
"The presidency discovered how Osinbajo allegedly mismanaged N90billion from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
When confronted by the presidency, he confirmed to General Buhari that he indeed allegedly took N90billion from FIRS but it was used for the 2019 presidential election campaign in strategic states of the South-west.
Gen Buhari asked for a breakdown of how the money was spent and he said he gave N11 billion to Lagos state APC leader but when the said national leader and one former APC chairman were invited for an explanation, it was confirmed that Osinbajo gave only N5billion and not N11billion to Lagos state.
'The cabal is asking to know how come they beat PDP in the South-west with less than 60,000 votes if the money was actually spent in the strategic states of the South-west as allegedly claimed.'
The activist insisted that if the information is true, Osinbajo must resign his position as Vice President, adding that such is akin to the characteristics of ‘yahoo boys."
It is clear that the entire publication was a vicious, wicked and reckless ploy to impugn the reputation of our client and lower him in the estimation of right thinking members of the public. Without any scintilla of evidence you deliberately gave the dubious impression that our client colluded with the Federal Inland Revenue Service to divert public funds to the tune of N90 billion to prosecute the 2019 general elections in the South west region.
In view of the foregoing we have our client’s firm instructions to request for the immediate retraction of the offensive and derogatory publication coupled with apology prominently published in your newspaper.
Take notice that if we do not receive your formal retraction and apology within 24 hours of the receipt of this letter, we shall proceed with our client’s instructions to seek legal remedies including aggravated damages in the appropriate High Court.
Yours Sincerely,
FEMI FALANA, SAN

[s] opportunes: It is my pleasure to be here with you to deliver this Keynote Address at this strategic High Level Event on the margins of the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. Let me join others in thanking all individuals and institutions that have worked so hard to make this event a success.
Excellencies, distinguished ladies and gentlemen, it is exactly four years since I joined other World Leaders during the 70th Session of the UNGA to adopt the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). With the adoption of the 2030 Agenda, we set for ourselves ambitious goal of seeing an economically sustainable, socially inclusive and environmentally resilient world.
For Nigeria, and indeed Africa as a whole, the achievement of the SDGs will mean ending poverty and hunger, safeguarding our ecosystem and ensuring that our people live in peace and prosperity by the year 2030. It is for this reason that our government acted quickly in the implementation of the SDGs by establishing the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on the SDGs in January 2016. The Office is charged with the responsibility for strategic planning; horizontal and vertical inter-governmental coordination; multi-stakeholders’ partnership and resource mobilization.
It is also mandated to lead robust advocacy and communications for the SDGs in Nigeria. Excellencies, distinguished ladies and gentlemen, I am aware from Official Statistics that approximately 54 percent of Nigerians live below the poverty line as defined by World Bank. It is pertinent to state that reducing extreme poverty and hunger is one of the cardinal objectives of our administration. It is for this reason that in May this year, we committed ourselves to lifting approximately 100 million Nigerians out of poverty within a 10-year period.
This is a national development priority and in line with the aspirations of the SDGs. We have since established an ambitious National Social Investment Programme (NSIP) targeting the poor and vulnerable members of the Nigerian population. Through the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP), we are tackling and addressing the root causes of poverty in all its manifestations. For example, the Home Grown School Feeding Programme (HGSF) component is feeding almost 10 Million school pupils daily and empowering over 90, 000 local catering staff across the country. The Conditional Cash Transfer Component, is reaching out to approximately 300, 000 poor and vulnerable households across the country.
The Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme component has provided over a million loans to petty traders and small entrepreneurs across the country. Similarly, the N-Power Programme, a youth employability and enhancement programme, has empowered 500,000 youths between the ages of 18-35 with the needed skills for the job market over a 2-year period.
As a government, we have since recognized that to achieve the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs, we must scientifically understand our implementation context; carefully formulate policies and programmes; and judiciously apply human and financial resources. These cannot be achieved with ad-hoc planning. Economic, social and environmental dimensions of the SDGs were integrated into our Economic Recovery and Growth Plan 2017-2020. But this is only a Medium-term Plan designed to restore economic growth following the recession in 2016. It was our genuine desire for scientific planning and implementation of the SDGs that made Nigeria to commence the process of domestication and customization of the Integrated Sustainable Development Goals Model in 2017.
The Nigeria iSDG Model, the Report of which we will officially launch today, will serve as a framework for robust, fact-based policy analysis, planning and implementation at all levels of government. It is expected to be used as a planning tool to complement existing ones currently in use at the national, sectoral and sub-national levels.
The domestication process was led by the then Ministry of Budget and National Planning, and the Nigeria iSDG planning Model is now domiciled in the recently restructured Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning for policy coherence and sustainability. Going forward, we expect policymakers and planners to judiciously utilise this model to guide our efforts towards the achievement of the SDGs and other Internationally Agreed Development Goals.
I would like finally to commend the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, the Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for the strategic collaboration in the development and successful formulation of the Nigeria iSDG Simulation Model. My appreciation also goes to all the resource persons for their invaluable contributions in the domestication of the model for Nigeria. I look forward to seeing the 36 states and the FCT customize this planning tool at the state level. I thank you for your kind attention.

Before building an almighty airport, first upgrade both the curriculum and infrastructure of your school to be world class.
Build more hostels.
Build more 21st Century classes.
Build modern laboratories.
Build premium transportation systems.
After you're part of the top five unis in Africa, then you can funnel your excess cash into an "airport" (which is still VERY Unnecessary) tho.
Building an airport costs a whole buckload of serious money...except the state will partner with the University.

[s] KEVIND: The Northern Elders Forum has said that the North has never agitated for the breakup of the country, hence, it does not have any plan for it. This is just as a member of Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed expressed disappointment in the leadership style of Northern peoples who hold various political offices in the country. Making the assertion on Monday, a former presidential candidate of the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC) party Bashir Othman Tofa, during the inauguration of students’ wing of Northern Youth Groups, organised by Coalition of Northern Youth held at Bayero University, Kano. According to him, “If you look at our population and what we have together is more than what anyone can hope for. So to try to destroy this is certainly a lose-lose situation. That is why we here in the North would never say we want to leave in this country. “ His words “If you examine the situation, you would find out it is only in Northern Nigeria that there is no agitation for the breakup of this country” He said that the unity of the country is sacrosanct, adding that the North has been playing the role of encouraging the unity of Nigeria “That is why we are the root of this country. If the root is uprooted, the tree will not be there. He then added that so we like to be patient, we like to encourage Nigerians to love their country to be united and tolerate one another. So that we can build a kind of country we like to build.”
He then advised Northerners to exercise patience in building the unity of the country, as they are the root of Nigeria’s unity. It is Northern Nigeria that doesn’t have any specific plan of its own, in case Nigeria is divided. This means we have absolute confidence that being together is the best thing for all of us.” Our responsibility is to exercise patience to make sure we guide this country to the kind of unity and progress we need to develop into a better country and even become a nation-state,” Mr Tofa said. A member of Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed expressed disappointment in the leadership style of Northern peoples who hold various political offices in the country. His words Northerners who hold different political positions had failed to address the region’s problems in areas considered to be of paramount importance for the region. “We are disappointed with our northern leaders at all levels. We will be putting pressure on them to correct their mistakes of tackling the problem of insecurity, poor quality of education and health, the problem of economy among others.” Alhaji Baba-Ahmed then charged northern governors to provide shelter for cattle headers in the zone to stop them from wondering about anyhow. However, on the occasion, three regional coordinators for Northwest, Northeast and Northcentral geopolitical zones were inaugurated during the event.

Ugwuoke347: I am disappointed in Ezeife if truly he made those comments. He must be mad to drag IPOB into the filth of useless Nigerian politicasting. For the records, IPOB does not seek the patronage of people who have an eye on Nigerian politics. IPOB has no place for political calculators and projectioners from the East or anywhere for that matter. IPOB is not a political party either, and so seeks no carpet crosser, decampees and directionless whores. If people like Ezeife is hinging his possible support or denial of support for IPOB on the outcome of Nigeria's 2023 election, then it should be clear that he was never more than an overrated ideologue!
And why can't our people learn to be single-minded in pursuit of the collective good? What kind of sickness is that? All these dilly-dallying and shilly-shallying rub us badly. Take a definite stand, and take it boldly ! If you are for Nigeria, go on with your one Nigeria, If you are for Biafra, stand up and straight for Biafra! There should be no middle ground. There should no iffy disposition. There should be no such nonsensical conditional attitude suggesting that if the mother hen fails to quack, then we consider accepting the gobbling of the mother turkey in its place. Real men do not blow hot and cold!
Why should any sane Igbo still be dreaming of Nigerian presidency as though that will bring us to our Uhuru, as though that will correct the manifold anomalies and imbalances of the false Nigerian federation? Nigeria was built to favour only a section. Nigeria is not a country. A country does not raise a section of its populace above the law. Nigeria is worse than a jungle. Let those whose fantasy is fanned by a possible gift of Nigerian presidency from the Hausa-Fulani stick to their lane. They should never include IPOB in their political calculations. you are a true son. I hate politicians with all my life. |

[s] Vision2060: COPIED
Abioye Joshua Oluwadamilare is a young man with a vision and passion to reposition Nigeria as a country all would be proud of by 2060. In this interview with CELESTINE AMOKE, he shares what he has termed Nigeria-Vision 2060. Excerpts: What is your name and your mission for visiting Independent Newspapers? My name is Abioye Joshua Oluwadamilare. I have a message of hope for all Nigerians. Okay, what is the message? I have a message of hope for the good people of Nigeria and that is that by 2060 Nigeria would be among the best economies of the world. Are you a pastor? How come the message now? I am not a “Pastor” but, “Anointed Priest Prophet and king” and “Now” is the right time. God has revealed to me what we are to do to make the country great again. God has heard our crying for help and He is ready to do for us His will. For this reason, a movement is born tagged Nigeria-Vision 2060. Tell us more about this Nigeria-Vision 2060. Nigeria-Vision2060 is a movement set up to streamline and guide Nigerians to build for ourselves a future we yearn for and to give the next generation a land truly flowing with milk and honey and a nation full of patriots. There are many intelligent and vibrant Nigerians who believe that the future is bright for Nigeria. Some Nigerians had been talking about the problems of the country and proffering solutions in wrong ways. However, it's time for us to truly own our country. We all must see the greater future and believe the land we are on is truly not cursed. How are you going to achieve this? We are assembling a team of vibrant Nigerians who truly believe that the country can become one of the great nations of the world. Our target is 2060 when Nigeria will clock 100 years as an independent nation and our major focus is on electricity, transportation, health and education. Our aim is to build the next generation of our country where the aspirations of the people would be realisable; a country where the citizens’ hope is fulfilled. Many Nigerians are ignorantly cursing and condemning the nation God has blessed us with, forgetting that they ought to be the one building the nation. Vision 2060 is all about knowing the truth and pursuing it; it is about building the people and a trusted society. The first step on our program is to encourage all Nigerian to do the following: On Friday, 27th of September, 2019 every Nigerian, young or old, home and abroad, should pray to God for forgiveness of our sins and for Him to grant us the spirit of true repentance. On Tuesday, October 1, 2019, all Nigerians young or old, home and abroad, should come out in joyful mood, put on the color of the country (Green & White or touch of Green & White) to celebrate her Independence. On Sunday, October 6, 2019 every Nigerian, young or old, home and abroad, should again pray, thanking God for His love and blessings for Nigeria and (personally) ask for the spirit of love for one’s country.
Please note that for September 27 and October 6, 2019, the prayer can be by individual group or in religious houses but it is very important to note that no money should be contributed for such. What has brought us to the poor state of affairs in this country? Our soul is hungry for power and wealth but our spirit is not thirsty for righteousness. Righteousness exalts a nation, the Scripture says. On October 1, our movement will kick off with the launch of our first message tagged, “The Future Is Now” to build hope and create awareness among Nigerians. There is one simple but difficult thing that we all must do before we can attain what we yearn for and that is what we will be talking about in the next one year. Our message in the next one year would be: Let the Church go silent on prosperity and come louder on Salvation; Let the political leaders think more of progress of their environment than their families; Encourage the followers to be more patriotic and Let everyone play his part with sincerity of mind in nation-building.

[s] FSU: In the US and other advanced societies, engaging in protests is part of the civic tools at the disposal of citizens. In fact, to become a US citizen, a question on the right to protest is among the 100 questions you get asked. With Nigeria, I hate to say this, the Yoruba are the most civilly responsible Nigerians. They protest what they feel in their mind is wrong. Other ethnic groups mostly join in after the fact, or don't bother at all to protest. In some cases, such protests may be negative, such as the looting of Shoprite stores in the SW following the xenophobia events in SA mostly by Yoruba elements, but also some Igbo and northerners.
The screenshot below from Reno Omokri is a clear evidence of that. See what Nigerians led by the Yoruba did to GEJ. They (mostly young and educated folks) protested relentlessly on the streets of SW, not just in Lagos for less serious GEJ policies. Since then, Buhari has done worse than GEJ, as represented by those things listed in the photo, but no one is out there protesting. Of course, the SW cannot protest now since their son, Osinbajo, is involved. Still, nothing stops anyone else from protesting Buhari's incompetence.
In contrast to the Yoruba, the Igbo are arguably less civilly responsible. We care less about protesting for our rights. That is why our governors are highly irresponsible and incompetent tin gods strutting about like peacocks, with nobody putting them in check. As we speak, Billionaire Arthur Eze is seriously intimidating a local community (Abba, Njikoka LGA) in Anambra with his money and the police over land dispute. Abba is where world renowned author Chimamanda Adichie comes from. She is writing about it online but not protesting formally. I guess writing can also be a form of protest. However, to my knowledge, no one in her town is on the streets protesting Arthur's villainous incursion.
Apart from the fight for Biafra via Ojukwu, IPOB, and MASSOB, which bother on the more serious national issue of citizenship, the last time Igbos led a major protest was during the Aba women's right in 1929. Lol. Don't get me wrong, like the 1929 riots, Igbo women do protest now and then, such as when Fulani herdsmen strike in their communities Lol
So, my question is this: why are Igbo men (young and educated) seemingly averse to protesting bad national and state economic policies that ordinarily affect them? Even, the IPOB struggle is led on the streets mostly by Ill-educated folks. Of course, their leader Kanu is the chief protester and he is educated but he seems to be the only informed person among them.
Please don't start calling me "Afonja". For those who don't know me, please check my profile and my posts to see who I am: a "conc" Igbo man. [/s] |
