[s] bizme: Those who voted against GEJ did this country a great service; he was taking the country to hell. I know it is easy because of the Pharaoh presently ruling us to forget what Nigeria was like at the time of GEJ. The fact remains that GEJ had to go. Period. And unfortunately for Nigeria Pharaoh was the only decent candidate with enough factors behind him to send GEJ packing. What you failed to mention is the fact that many of the people that later turned against GEJ had tirelessly fought for him when the cabal wanted to eat him up whole. At the beginning, GEJ had the goodwill of Nigerians, and he latter lost it. And as difficult as it is to accept, Pharaoh too had the good will of Nigerians at the start, and he has lost it too. How did we as Nigerians try to respond to our Pharaoh, we went out shopping for someone to send him packing and Atiku was the only one with enough factors behind him to achieve that. Yes, Atiku. Atiku of all people. What did we start to do, we immediately forgot the dangers embedded in the genetic code of Atiku and we started singing his positive aspects. The same thing we did for GEJ that brought him into power. The same thing we did for Pharaoh that brought him to power. The same thing we wanted to do with Atiku... If Atiku had won and had become the president, it would have been a surprise if the story would be different for Nigeria and for Nigerians. The suffering and poverty would simply continue. People like Dangote and the superrich would keep getting richer still. The purse of the nation would change from the hands of APC to PDP. Boko Haram would continue unabated because it is a home-grown and home-sponsored political expediency.
These career politicians and political jobbers like GEJ, Pharaoh, Atiku, and Dangote are the least of our problems. Yes I mention Dangote in the least because he is one of the persons driving policies in this country. Is it a coincidence that the borders are closed to disallow the influx of rice when at the same time Dangote is massively springing up dozens of rice mills across the country? The government is directly creating another monopoly for Dangote, just like the cement. Of course this is an economic monopoly reserved for the top 1 person in the country who can afford it. It is not a coincidence that that one person is again Dangote. Yes, jobs are created and all, but have the past jobs created by Dangote groups elevated the general living conditions and life expectancy in the country?
As I was saying, we Nigerians are the problem. We forget so quickly the ugly lessons each political dispensation teaches. In stupi.d and brutis.h desperation we rush out to seek a replacement. Any replacement. No matter how bad that replacement is, we immediately overlook his past misdeeds and we cloth him with the public appearance of an angel. In essence we cloth wolves with sheepskin and then come back here to lament that our wolves don't behave like a sheep, instead they are having us for breakfast. We refuse to learn as a country. As a people.
Until we start to shop for quality leaders patiently and methodically there will be no hope for political leadership in this country. Until we start electing to offices those who have nothing to lose in a misgoverned nation, our woes will continue. Until we start shopping track record of good, exemplary and democratic qualities, we will never see real progress as a country.
Until we start looking beyond ethnic partitions, we will remain a third world country. I am a Yoruba man but that shouldn't prevent me from accepting that Tinubu and Osibanjo and their cronies are bad examples of leadership and should never lead this country. If my quality of life and liberty as a citizen of Nigeria is improved and secured by an Igbo President, or an Ijaw President or an Hausa President, why should it be difficult for me to go all out to ensure these individuals get to the respected office of power?
How is it exactly working for us, this ethnic sentiments driving everything? From university admission, to national football team, to political appointments. We are simply worse off. [/s] |

[s] sarrki: s Osinbajo’s aides were sacked to save costs
LATEST NEWSTOP NEWS By Leon Usigbe | Abuja On Nov 9, 2019 PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari on Friday declared that he was in absolute control of his government and that there is no one too powerful for him to handle.
He also confirmed the sacking of some aides of his deputy, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, saying it was done as part of the cost-cutting moves of his government.
The president, in his first official statement since the news of the sacking of 35 aides of Osinbajo broke days ago, said on Friday that there was no rift between him and Osinbajo, contrary to media reports.
A statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, confirmed that there was an ongoing overhaul of the presidency which led to the termination and non-renewal of certain political appointments.
It said the office of the vice president had also been shed of such appointees. The statement was, however, silent on who among Buhari’s aides had been equally sacked.
The statement reads: “The presidency wishes to confirm that there is, ongoing, an unprecedented overhaul of the nation’s seat of government, arising from which a number of political appointments have either been revoked or not renewed in the second term.
UPDATED: Identity of sacked Osinbajo’s aides revealed
“The exercise, which has been ordered by the president, is to streamline decision-making, cut down multiple authorities and reduce the cost of administration.
“It is also an appropriate response to the general perception that the presidency has an oversized and bloated workforce which acts as a drag on efficiency.
“As may have been noticed by discerning members of the public, a number of political appointees among the few that served in the office of the president were not returned for the second term.
“The office of the vice president, His Excellency Yemi Osinbajo has, in compliance with the directive of the president, equally been shed of a number of such appointees.

No one is too powerful for me to control — Buhari “In carrying out these exercises, the overriding objective is to save taxpayer money and deliver needed service to the public. As far as the president is concerned, there is no scope for an excuse for administration after getting a huge mandate to run the country for four more years.
“In the light of this, the presidency wishes to strongly deny rumours of a rift between President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. The relationship between the two leaders remains excellent and trusting. Together, they will script a glorious future for the nation.
“The media reports of a soured relationship are originating from the minds and mouths of mischief makers who are desperate for entertaining stories from the Aso Rock Villa with which to titillate the public. This ulterior motive is the basis of the wrong interpretation given to the recent exercise in the presidency.
“There has been a streamlining of staff going on for a while. The president has always had fewer staff than the vice president, and there were always plans to reduce the number of staff at the Villa.
The streamlining was not personal or targeted to undermine the vice president’s office, as the so-called insider sources quoted by the media appear to make it seem.
“The president is in absolute control of his government. The media should stop attributing non-existent powers to some people. There cannot be anyone too powerful for President Buhari to control.”
Names of the sacked 35 aides had emerged in the presidency on Thursday. They are Jibola Ajayi, (SA, Legal), Lanre Osinbona (SSA, ICT), Imeh Okon (SSA, Infrastructure), Jide Awolowo (SA, Oil and Gas), Lilian Idiaghe (SA, Research, Legal and Compliance), Arukino Umukoro (SA, Niger Delta) and Bala Liman Mohammed (SSA, Economy).
Others include Edobor Iyamu (SSA, Niger Delta), Dolapo Bright (SSA, Agro Allied Value Chain), Toyosi Onaolapo (SA, Community Engagement), Gambo Manzo (SA, Political), Bisi Ogungbemi (SA, Political Matters), Edirin Akemu (SSA, Industry, Trade and Investment), Akin Soetan (STA, Economic Matters), Aondaver Kuttuh (Technical Assistant, Rule of Law), Ife Adebayo (SA, Innovation), Yussuf Ali (SA, Power Regulations), Tola Asekun (SSA, National Boundary Commission), Morakinyo Beckley (SA, Off-grid Power), Yosola Akinbi (SSA, NEC), Tochi Nwachukwu (SA, Power Privatisation) and Bode Gbore (SSA, Political).
The remaining are Abdulrahman Baffa Yola (SA, Political), Kolade Sofola (SA, Infrastructure), Ebi Awosika (STA, Community Engagement), Muyiwa Abiodun (SSA, Power), Forri Samson Banu (SA, Entrepreneurship), Bege Bala (SA, BPE), Feyishayo Aina (SA, Community Engagement), Halima Bawa (SA, Community Engagement), Nkechi Chukwueke (SA, Community Engagement) and Ilsa Essien (SA, Media).
In a tweet on Thursday evening, the spokesman of the vice president, Laolu Akande, dismissed the list, saying that it was not genuine and should be ignored.
“Also, a list circulating in the media on d so-called sacked presidential aides is not genuine and ought to be ignored,” he said on his personal handle @akandeoj.
The presidency had begun the implementation of the sacking of the aides on Wednesday.
It was learnt that even when Osinbajo was hoping that the sacking of the aides would be reversed by the president, some of the affected persons on Wednesday had their Presidential Villa access tags retrieved from them as they reported for work.
Some of those who reported for work were said to have been approached at the gate by security personnel who seized their tags upon confirming that their names were contained in the list of sacked aides apparently provided for them.
Some of the aides were said to have left their offices on Wednesday and returned home to avoid being embarrassed.
A source close to the vice president’s office had confided in the Nigerian Tribune that some of the aides who came to work on Wednesday left on their own accord to stave off any incident with security personnel

[s] sarrki: As soon as the Queen of England bestowed one of the country's highest honors upon John Lennon, almost anyone could have guessed it wasn't going to end well.
Along with the rest of the Beatles, Lennon was made a Member of the Most Honorable Order of the British Empire on Oct. 26, 1965, an act of recognition demonstrating the immense pride the nation took in the band's incredible worldwide success. According to Lennon, he had to be talked into accepting the award by Beatles manager Brian Epstein, and true to his customarily flippant and anti-establishment persona, he proved fairly flippant at the award ceremony.
"She said to me, 'Have you been working hard lately?' And I couldn't think what we had been doing so I said, 'No, we've been having a holiday,'" Lennon recalled. "We'd been recording, but I couldn't remember."
Later, joking that he thought the letter informing the band members they'd been selected was a notice that they'd been drafted, Lennon claimed to have tossed it into a pile of fan mail and and added, "We thought being offered the MBE was as funny as everyone else thought it was … We all met and agreed it was daft ... then it all just seemed part of the game we’d agreed to play."
By the late '60s, that was a game Lennon had largely lost interest in playing, but he'd become increasingly savvy about how to leverage his celebrity in order to further his favorite causes. In the fall of 1969, that was a list that included ending British military involvement in global conflicts such as the wars in Vietnam and Biafra, and he decided to use the award he'd never really wanted in order to prove a point.
