Igbo leaders who were at the Igbo Unity Forum gathered in Owerri, Imo State capital to take this decision reasoned that the state of the nation today makes it imperative for the people to look inwards and to build Igboland. The Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo made this possible as it called out those in government and traditional institutions of the South-East states to a think-tank in Owerri tagged Igbo Unity Forum. The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Ogariwy, in his welcome speech said the Igbo group has been striving to be the mouth-piece of the people of the region without being successful. He was, therefore, happy that they had succeed in closing ranks in order to move the race forward. “We have never had it like this in coming together to proffer solutions to Igbo problems,” Igariwey said. He noted that the Igbo are very adventurous and great achievers, pointing out that the Igbo contributed over 30 per cent of the development of Lagos and have helped in developing Abuja too. The president general of Ohanaeze therefore, called on the Igbo to now think home to replicate those things they have done in Lagos and Abuja in Igboland. http://medianaija.com.ng/igbo-unity-forum-igbo-leaders-call-on-the-people-to-build-igboland/ |

The method, described as the point system option, was adopted after an extensive one-week meeting JAMB had with universities and other tertiary institutions’ administrators in the country. According to the guidelines contained in a statement placed on its website on Monday night, JAMB said that the modalities were going to be based on point system. While explaining how the admission process would work for Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination candidates and direct entry students, the organisation stated that universities were going to charge fees for screening of candidates at the end of the process for admission. Governor Rochas Okorocha has ordered payment of three months salary arrears to Imo State civil servants. With the governor’s directive, workers will get April,May and June salaries at once. Okorocha, who gave the directive at the weekend during a meeting with Directors of Accounts, Treasurers and Permanent Secretaries at the Government House, assured that henceforth, salaries of civil servants would be paid as and when due. The governor also set up a committee which would be liaising with the directors of Accounts and the stat’s Accountant-General every month to ensure prompt payment of the salaries of civil servants. However, Okorocha explained that the 70 and 30 percent revenue sharing formula between labour and the state government does not mean that workers would get only 70 percent of their salaries at the end of each month. The governor said they could get more, depending on the revenue profile of the state at a particular month. http://mediamatters.com.ng/civil-servants-in-imo-state-gets-3-month-salary-arrears/

The Catholic Church in Enugu State on Saturday held mass rallies protesting violent activities of herdsmen in the state. The three Catholic dioceses in the state, Nsukka, Awgu and Enugu, staged separate rallies and expressed their anger at the menace posed by herdsmen. Priests and lay members of the Catholic Church turned out in their thousands for the peaceful rallies in Nsukka and Awgu dioceses. However, the Enugu Catholic diocese shelved its plan to march to the Government House, where they intended to deliver a petition to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. The Diocese had earlier announced that it would march from the Holy Ghost Cathedral, through the streets of Enugu metropolis, to the Government House on Saturday. The march was tagged “Diocesan peaceful prayerful protest march.” But the planned march failed to hold after Ugwuanyi and some members of the state executive council visited the church. Our correspondent learnt that the church leadership called off the march after they were informed of an alleged plan by miscreants to hijack the event. http://gistplus.com.ng/catholic-church-protests-against-fulani-herdsmen-attack-in-enugu-state/ |
