KazikageSama:

Naira will actually suffer for this move Sir.
1. Our banks are not capable of handling the volumes of daily FX exchanges over the counter yet. From experience, I can assure you that banks are still struggling with handling, reporting and managing Form As, Form Ms, BTA and PTA requests.

Hello Sir, sorry to digress. Please I have a question:

What's the present limit on form A payments per semester/quarter as set by CBN. Is it 10k dollar or 15k.

Thank you

Religion / Re: Is God Really Against Taking Alcohol Or Just Against Excess Of It? by mediaX(m): 8:57am On Mar 28, 2021
At the last supper, wine was used, the apostles drank. At the wedding feast at Canaan wine also was used, the guests drank. As a matter of fact, born from proven historical Jewish study, wine formed an integral part of merriment in ancient Jewish culture, a culture the messiah was king of. And those who argue that wine doesn't in all cases mean 'alcoholic wine' are ignorant. Cause wine in itself, and the reason it is called wine in the first instance is due to 'fermentation'. If fermentation didn't take place it is not wine, it is probably fresh juice. And it is fallacy 'petitio principii' to say wine is destructive simply because it is alcoholic; that's like saying 'Timolol' eyedrop should not be used by glaucoma patients to reduce intra-ocular eye pressure; or 'Chloramphenicol' should not be applied to the eye to treat conjunctivitis, cause both contain deliberate levels of alcohol. Need I mention Jesus and his Jewish heritage drank wine for cultural reasons, as it formed a huge part of their culture at the time. Do your research, back in time.

Let me digress a bit, so many things can impair judgement, not only alcohol. Prolonged hunger and self denial of food (total deprival) by itself could impair consciousness and any sane human's judgement yet fasting is never termed sin in christian scripture. Gluttony also is sin when you look at it, as detailed by christian scripture, but not the food in itself, rather the inordinate attachment to food and the greed that fuels such attachment.
Man can get attached to anything, when the usage is abused. And any inordinate attachment is a violation of the freedom of the will, that is what makes it sin. You no longer hold direct control over your decisions. The same way most people are addicted to hustling for money that they neglect time for their children and family: that is sin.

Again, have you wondered why there are different doses for children, adults and pregnant women on medical prescriptions? That goes to tell you that equal measurements do not impact equally in people's bodies. There are no one-size-fit-all definition of tolerance, as tolerance levels differ from individual to individual. 5 pints might make Enoch drunk, but it would require 8 to make Chris and David drunk. So technically Enoch gets the refreshment and no loss of consciousness so long he doesn't go beyond his body limit. And if Enoch does that twice in a month that's beautiful. Self mastery is a skill to be learned, and can be learned, but the underlying virtue is self discipline.

The medication you get at hospitals, contain significant bits of alcohol, and in some painkillers and relaxants you'll find 'clinical marijuana'. Tramadol is a pain killer, many pastors take them after their vigorous all night deliverance service, but in prescribed medical dosage, or possibly overdose, they won't tell you, would they? Codeine which is a potent syrup for cough can utterly cause one to discombobulate when overdosed on it. So you can see two sides of a coin.

The biblical scripture says ' if your hand (wine) shall cause you to sin, cut it off'. Now "if" is a conditional statement, meaning it may cause some to sin (drunkenness) and may not cause some to sin. I am not you, you are not me. The fact that apostle Peter cut off the servant's ear doesn't mean every man would have done same. The fact that peter denied Jesus 3 times doesn't mean every man in the exact same circumstance would have done same. The fact that David slept with another man's wife doesn't mean every man would have done same. The fact say smell of drink dey high you, nor mean say e dey high me, as a matter of fact I reflect better and have more constructive thoughts after a bottle or two. I am not you, you are not me. Your weaknesses are not my weaknesses. As a matter of reality, your weaknesses may be my strength.

For those living in Lagos, you insult people almost everyday in buses, traffic, when driving and when outsmarted. So technically, the intense Lagos life causes you to sin, so kindly leave Lagos please!

For those living in Nigeria, the fraud government causes you to call your leaders bastards. This is sin, and a continual sin because Nigeria's situation would continue to make you call them bastards, so kindly leave Nigeria please!

This thread is funny, there is a condition called 'over hydration', also called 'water intoxication' resulting from drinking too much water. It causes drowsiness and confusion. It is deadly as it causes electrolyte imbalance. So does this mean don't drink water? Hell no.

Nigeria is nothing but a big shame to what she stands for. To think courageous men and women actually gave their life in the past for this country. It's up to the youth now, if the youth don't act now instead of being pussies, in 50 years time nothing would change.

This post is not to sell the British accent/method of speaking English over the Nigerian one, rather for those who seek to modify their speaking for personal, career, travel or business reasons. Everyone should do what makes them feel most comfortable, and speak how best they feel most expressive; pidgin English or posh, whatever rocks your boat. But in truth, whatever language worth learning is worth learning well.

Family / Baby Names: Common Mispronunciations by mediaX(m): 10:19pm On Aug 03, 2019
Hi everyone. Today I would be addressing some baby names which are often wrongly pronounced by parents in homes, by teachers in schools and by friends in the entire social hemisphere. It 'itches' my ears whenever I hear my name mispronounced—My name is "Hilary" often mispronounced as /ee la ri/. Truth is, as Nigerians, English is not our first language, valid. But at the same time whatsoever language worth learning is worth learning well. I'm guilty of some of the misnomers, you may be guilty too at some point, well the bottom line is let's all learn. No one is an island of knowledge.

So here they are:

Mabel -------- may bull (not "may bell" nor "mah bell" )
Mary -------- merry (not "may ree" )
Mariam ----- merry-am (not "may ree-am" )
Marianna ----- merry-ah-na (not "may ree ah na" )
Josephine -------- joze fin (not "jo seh fin" )
Charles ----- charlz (not "Charlssss)
Micheal -------- mai cole (not "mai kell" )
Nicholas -------- nick las (not "knee ko las" )
Marvelous -------- marv lous (not "ma veh lous" )
Jonathan -------- jaw na than (not "joe na tan)
Reginald -------- reh gee nawld (not "reh gee nad" )
Donald ----- dor nawld (not "doe naald" )

Joel -------- jole (not "jo el" )
Noah ------- norwa
Joseph -------- joe zev (not "joe sef" )
Joan -------- jone (not "joe ann" )
Yvonne -------- e von (not "vorn" )
Vaughan -------- vorn (not "vo gan" )
Sarah -------- seh rah (not "say rah" )
Sara ------- saa rah
Jessica -------- jeh sica (not ''jay sica'' )
Rebecca -------- reh beh ka (not "ray bay ca" )
Lucia ----- loo-cee-ah
Isla ----- eye la (not "is la" nor "ice la" )
Alicia ----- ah-li-cee-ah (not "ah li sha)
Alisha ---- ah li sha
Daniel -------- da newl (not "dan yell" )
Joshua -------- jaw shwa (not "joe shwa" )

Glory -------- glaw ree (not "glow ree" )
Kingsley -------- kings lee (not "kin slee" )
Babara -------- babra (not "ba barà" )
Deborah -------- Debra (not "deh bora " ) wink
Marie -------- more reè (not "ma ree" )
Maria ----- ma-ree-ya (3 syllables)
Mariah ---- mah rah ya (not "ma ree ya" )
Donald -------- dor nawld (not "do naad" )
Elizabeth -------- eli za beth or eliz beth (both correct)
Louis ----- loo-ee

PS: If you trip to Native countries (English countries) and pronounce these names otherwise, they would find it difficult comprehending who or what you mean. Or at worse, think you sound condescending or racist. Someone may even call your name just behind you, and you wouldn't recognise it's your name they called. We learn everyday all the same.

Safitu:
I was born and raised in the U.K. and I’m so sorry

We don’t pronounce lecturer as Lek tra

Tutorial as chew to re all or whatever you wrote there.

And what’s even the big deal in the British accent. When I moved to Nigeria in 2010 as a 15 year old britico, I tried so hard to change my accent into the naija one. Till this day I have a mixture of both accents, but I prefer my African roots. Do better please, let everyone be themselves. There’s beauty in Africa.

Well, let me say firstly, that I am delighted to meet you, although in a rather unusual circumstance. Nice meeting you all the same.

* There are alternate pronunciations of the word "lecturer" across the many regional accents of the UK. With the technique called elision, employed in Received Pronunciation RP, "lecturer" becomes /lec tra/. The vowel in lect(u)rer is elided or deleted.

* Tumour, tube, Tunisia, tutor, YouTube are pronounced /choo mor/, /choob/, /choo ni zia/, /choo tor/ and /you choob/ in RP, which is in no disregard to alternate regional pronunciations.

Likewise, "tutorial" could be pronounced /choo toh ree ol/. I said "could" not must.

* You moved to Nigeria in 2010 from your post, and chose to modify your accent towards the Nigerian one, now that's beautiful and I'm proud of you. However, you could do that because of "freedom of the will" and the freedom to choose how you wish to speak or be heard, other people should be entitled to this freedom of choice as well to speak how they please and leaves you no position to judge them, if no one judges you.

* This post is not to sell the British accent above the Nigerian one, rather for those who seek to modify their speaking for personal, career or business reasons. Everyone should do what makes them feel most comfortable, just like you did some years ago. What works for you might not work for everyone, and what works for everyone might not work for you.

Nice meeting you.

Hello everyone, hope y'all are having a splendid day...

It's me again—Hilary Okoh (public speaker, uplifting writer, social influencer) —bringing fresh content(s) to help you refine your speaking as it relates to word pronunciations and speech coherence. My reference material is the BrE (British English) and RP (received pronunciation) to be precise. I'm not a trained phonetics teacher, just a lover of the art and an eloquent speaker to say the very least. I have a Bsc and Msc in pure mathematics and computational mathematics respectively so that says how professionally 'unqualified' a phonetics teacher I am. However, here I am, please do see if you could learn a thing or two from the lesson.

Hypothetical Examples:

• Please gentlemen and ladies, don't endure a toxic or abusive relationship geared towards marriage just because you sense you are soon getting old, outliving your twenties, and your biological clock ticking.

Correct pronunciation:
tug zik // not "tor zik"
gi yed // not "ji yad" nor "gi yed"
be coz // not "be coss"
Bye yor lor gee cole // not "baa-or lor gee kal"

• 'Arise oh compatriots, Nigeria's call obey' chanted by the Ghanaian supporters who visited the stadium.

Correct pronunciation
come pay tree ots // not "come paa shun" nor "come paa trots"
Nai jeh ree ah // not "nine ji ria" nor "nai ji ria"
Gar nay yan // not "gar nyan"
vi zit // not "vi sit"

• Enroute the city, please ensure you don't drive too fast okay, I don't trust the vehicles condition on tarred roads especially, bearing in mind huge traffic this december period, it could be fatal, and caused major concern, says our mechanic.

Correct pronunciation
vee e cool // not "ver hi cole"
tarrd // not "tiled"
de sem bar // not "de zem bar"
fay tohl // not "far tal"
con sen // not "con sign"
serz // not "saze"
awa // not "aaah"

• My names are Kehinde Olufemi Oladipo.

My names 'are' is very often said by many in everyday spoken english, but it is wrong in the context used. The truth is your NAME comprises your first name, middle name (if at all) and last name, which makes up your full name. So when asked what your name is, your full name is expected as the response, and how many full names do you have: one.

Hence, my name is Kehinde Olufemi Oladipo.

• At the market I intend to buy some pineapple, sour sop, vegetables, pepper, salmon, ahmond with my coupons and some fast food from MacDonalds on my way back.

Correct pronunciation

mar kit // not "mar kett"
pyne a pool // not "peh nai pole"
sawa sop // not "shawa shop"
verj tay bool // not "ver ji tay bole"
peh pa // not "peh peh"
sah mon // not "sal mon"
ah mond // not "al mond"
cue pawns // koo pon
mak daw nawld // not "mak doe nald"

• Stop acting like a tortoise, last month you promised to get the job finished wednesday the 5th February, but today makes it thursday the 8th April still nothing has become of your commitment

Correct pronunciation
tor tis // nor "tor tor-iz
Monf // not "mont"
wenz day // not "wed nes day"
pheeth // not "pheevth"
feb yoo wa ri/feb ri // not "eb waa ri"
athe // not "ate"
ay prol // not "ay pray" nor "ay prail"

Other pronunciations:
Divorce ---- dee voss // not "die voss"
Diploma ---- deep low ma // not "deep lor ma"
Nurse ---- nerss // not "noss"
Medicine ---- meh di sin // not "med sin" nor "meh sin"
Oil --- oeeeeel // not "or yeah" nor "or yell"
Google ---- gooo goal // nor "gor goal"
Fasten ---- fah sin // not "fah stin"
Hasten ---- hey sin // not "hey stin"
Book ---- boke // not "buuuk"
Look ---- loke // not "luuuk"
Obvious ---- ob vee yoss // not "oh vyoss"
Souvenir ---- soo veh neh // not "saw veh nia"
Accent ---- ak sent // not "ah sent"

Hope you learned something from this lesson, feel free to make corrections, add contributions or seek clarity on the aforementioned or related subjects. Follow me on instagram http//instagram.com/hilzvoice as I would be posting subsequently videos on various speaking techniques, and also accent tags for many of us who are interested in acquiring the British accent.
