Jehovahs-witnesses give birth through CS, I would advice u read through his narrative instead of jumping to conclusion. CS was never given to him as an option.

Incase you don't know there was the part where he agreed to going ahead with the vaginal delivery when asked if he was willing to take the risks, despite the medical doctor listing them out to him which included: fetal distress, abruptio placenta etc which are all deadly complications that can happen in a vaginal delivery as opposed to a Caesarian section.

In that case private hospitals have to be bound by similar standards as the ones for public hospitals. (if there’s a good standard in the public hospitals)

A certain number of doctors required for a certain number of patients. If a private hospital is found to be in violation, they are fined or even temporarily suspended from operating until they resolve their issue. That’s exactly what will make them sit up

That’s why I said it’s a system issue not the Jehovah witness guy’s fault for his belief. The whole system needs a reboot.

You're requesting for all these things in this same Nigeria?

Are you sure you lived in Nigeria at all, or you lived here by proxy?

It's hard enough doing business in Nigeria which is why most foreign companies despite their hard currencies are still folding up. Private hospitals can only manage with what they have, and one of the training a Nigerian doctor receives in medical school is how to work in resource constrained settings, making do with meagre resources.
Your request is only likely to materialize in the next century perhaps.

When doctors go on strike (which I’ve heard of a few times), what are your talking points in the negotiation besides pay and benefits?

Do you fight for employment of new doctors so that more staffing is available when needed? I can’t tell you the amount of times someone in Nigeria has told me they went to the hospital and there was no doctor. They had to wait for one to come from somewhere. Or if there was one, he or she was usually so busy that they don’t get to see them soon enough.

If you guys don’t already, you really should add it to your negotiation plan. Ask for more colleagues. Nigeria trains a lot of doctors yearly. At least put them to good use before they japa

Well you've chosen to listen to the deafening noise of irate Nigerians whenever we go on strike.

While pay is a part of our demands, adequate staffing and infrastructural overhaul tops the lists of our demands, as he who would demand a better pay must prove to his boss he deserves it, which can only be gotten when he has good tools and more colleagues to work and rub minds with.

Unfortunately Nigerians and the Nigerian government would gaslight you till you turn around and blame the doctors and you'll eventually wonder why your friend goes to the hospital and sees no doctor.

Doctors are tired of fighting cause no one would listen to them. Na to hustle and japa remain now, whoever wants to be Captain save Nigeria like poor Dr. Marcus can stay behind.

This should make me increase the tempo for my japa plans sef.

God has been saving me from stuffs like this since 2011, I shouldn't be testing God too much, cos that's what staying back in Nigeria looks like. undecided

Well I’m sorry for the guy who lost his wife as well

Being a CRNA also requires high level of intelligence similar to what a doctor is expected to have. At the end of the day, neither of them is being spared right now on account of being intelligent.

I wish your doctor friend good luck and hope this was a big learning experience for him.

There are things we call NEVER events in the medical system here and one of them is that you never put a patient on a medication that can have devastating consequences and leave them unmonitored. Pitocin is no joke. To infuse it into a patient by gravity without a pump to measure the amount being given or a monitor to see how it’s affecting the baby and the strength of uterine contractions in the mom is unconscionable.

He broke a cardinal rule by doing that. Maybe it’s the norm for doctors that work in that hospital system to shuffle between hospitals when on the clock, but they need to put their foot down and say enough is enough.

Safe staffing saves lives. You people need to advocate harder for yourselves, your patients and your licenses.

Now they’re going to throw him under the bus and hang him out to dry.

And this is what we go on strike for regularly, however to the ire of Nigerians as you know the only language government understands is strike.

Who will fight for this case in a private hospital?

I thank God I stuck to the government hospital I was working in.

Marcus Mbakwe should have left this country a long time ago along with his fellow friends who were in the best 10 (none of them are still in the country).

He bleeped up big time. Nigeria would only kobalize you, nothing more

Why would you need blood being available as a prerequisite for CS?
Do you even know why blood is needed for surgeries or you think after an operation like CS for example, you transfuse a woman blood as a matter of routine?
Some of the things one reads is just laughable.

Would you have your daughter or wife go in for a CS in a hospital that has no blood made readily available in case of complications?

Or you think making preparations for blood transfusion services readily available is not one of the necessary routines prior to a surgical procedure?

Wow..speechless.

Such a huge baby.

So sorry for your loss. It seems from your detailed narrative that all of these could have been avoided.

At the heart of this painful story is the below from the grieving husband:

He recalled: "Early into the Pregnancy, we discussed with Dr Marcus that we were Jehovah's witnesses and we seek bloodless medical and surgical care which he was comfortable with. We also made a durable power of attorney document available 2 months prior to delivery.

The Doctor and hospital will try to latch onto this to explain away the "alleged" negligence.

This promises to be a very interesting case as the husband in question is very well learned in the field and also very detailed.

Dr. Marcus Mbakwe was among the best 10 graduating medical student in my set at the Obafemi Awolowo University in 2011.

I was among the best 50.

May God help him out of this, cos the Marcus I know is extremely competent to a fault.

I wonder what went wrong.

Left for the Federal Government and Sub Nationals, they can afford to pay 100k from the Subsidy Removal Revenue which majority of the Governors have been chopping in the last one year without nothing reasonable to show for it. But the private sector are to be considered as well because they also have to start paying whatever that would be agreed on.

All these while, the Organize Private Sector are the ones pegging the proposed wage at 60k which they can afford.

This matter just tie wrapper as it is, but let's see the final outcome.

I guess organized private sector can choose to pay their 60k, but state & especially FG should be made to pay nothing less than a 100k.

There is need for more Nigerians to go into Pig Farming. The Market to sell Pigs are readily available in all parts of this Country. So many People love Pork meat.

However, it is recently discovered that, the Chinese expatriates in Nigeria are the major consumers of Pork meat. They also buy their Pigs with more monitory value.
