2011/2012 Season, Week 1 results:

Dolphins 1 – 0 Sunshine Stars
New man, Adamu Mohammed came on as a substitute to
nod home the winner for title holders, Dolphins five minutes
from time. The champions start off the season in
fourth place while last
season's runners-up,
Sunshine Stars are 16th after games on the opening day.

Enugu Rangers 0 – 0
Warri Wolves
Goalkeeper Ambrose Vanzekin
and Ike ThankGod put up solid performances to stop Okey Emordi's men from picking all points. The result reflects the same scoreline in this
corresponding fixture last season.

Kwara United 0 – 0 Ocean Boys
Ocean Boys have started the season on a bright note. But
coach Samson Unuanel will have to thank goalkeeper Ospino Egbe for his heroics within the stick against Kwara United in this tie.
Both teams find themselves in the top half after this Day One's goalless draw.

Wikki Tourists 1 – 0 Heartland
Heartland's woes on the road continue after Victor Yakubu's 24th minute goal sealed a happy return for Ladan Bosso as head coach of Wikki.
Heartland are in 14th position after matchday one while Wikki sit in sixth.

Enyimba 2 – 0 ABS FC
Playmaker Josiah Maduabuchi scored the first goal of the season when he put former champions, Enyimba in front in the 1st minute of this game. New boy, Nzube Anazemba made the points safe for the Peoples Elephant with 10 minutes to time, as new head coach, Austin Eguavoen watched from the stands with first-team coach, Abdu Maikaba taking charge in the
interim. Enyimba start the season on top of the log.

Kano Pillars 1 – 0 Niger
Tornadoes
.
In this northern derby, Kano Pillars had to wait till after the hour-mark before Nazifi Ammani scored what turned out to be the winner. Ammani ensured that Baba Ganaru's men are in the top five after Week 1 while Tornadoes in the lower half of the standings.

3SC 2 – 1 Sharks
Festus Allen got a second half scare on his debut as 3SC head coach when attacking winger Bright Ejike scored inside two minutes of the restart for the visiting Blue Angels. But new signing from Ijebu United, Talabi Joshua Olamakinde's screamer on 72minutes caught goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa off guard to draw 3SC level. Substitute Osagona Ighodaro, another new boy, punished the Blue Angels on 84 minutes to hand Allen's men all points to put them third on the log.

Other results:

Rising Stars 0 – 0 Akwa
United

Gombe United 2 – 0 Lobi Stars.

Disappointing result, we had the match on our hands and let it slip.

I had said before and I maintain that this year's team hasn't been nearly as strong as last season. The numbers back me up on this: last season we lost 18 points all season (5 at this point in the season), now we've lost 13 already. The difference is even more notorious away from home: last season, we won our first eight away games with 29-4 GD, this year three wins, four draws, one defeat, 12-9 GD.

Apart from the fact that it'd be impossible to sustain such high level and the injuries we've had this season, to me the main reason for this is that we had much more firepower last season. Our attacking trio was the best of the Pep era imo: Messi, Pedro and Villa were all threats to score at any time and Villa and Pedro did a spectacular work pressing and creating space. This current trio of Messi, Sanchez and Cesc is clearly inferior imo, not in terms of talent but functionality. Messi is still the same; Cesc is scoring at the same rate Villa was last season, but he doesn't have the same relentless work ethic, ability to press the opponents when we don't have the ball - besides, without Villa, we have no one constantly making runs behind the defenders, keeping the defenders on their toes and making space for our other forwards. As for Sanchez, although his overall game is pretty brilliant, we can't really rely on him to score 20+ goals a season at this point (surely it's something he can improve). So we now have two players scoring freely (Messi and Cesc) and only one pressing relentlessly (Sanchez). Last season, we had three players scoring a lot and two pressing like mad men. This is why we killed off our games early last season and are struggling to do the same on the road this season. With Messi, Pedro and Villa from last season or even Messi, Henry, Eto'o from the sextuple season, we'd probably have killed off today's game at half-time.

I believe it is crucial that Pep inspires Pedro to regain his confidence and finishing skills. We need the Pedro who was a lock to make the most of his chances again. That version of Pedro would make us infinitely stronger and more deadly. With him, Messi and Cesc on the pitch, we'd have a trio of scoring threats and it could be very functional imo. If Pedro can't get back to his best, we'll miss a third regular source of goals up front (other than Messi and Cesc), which might see us drop some more points.

As for the league, it's not over yet but it'll be pretty difficult.

SportsCSKA Moscow Sign Ahmed Musa From Vvv Venlo For €5m by medjai(op): 1:46pm On Jan 07, 2012
VVV-Venlo have confirmed that
they have sold Ahmed Musa to
CSKA Moscow for a fee of €5
million.
The 19-year-old winger has
impressed for the De Koel outfit
since making his first-team
debut back in October 2010,
and has broken into the Nigeria
senior squad, winning 12 caps.
The news was confirmed on the
Dutch side's official website; the
African winger will move to the
Arena Khimki with immediate
effect.
The teenage startlet feels that
it is an important move in his
fledgling career, and is looking
forward to getting started
with his new club.
"This is the next step in my
career," he told Venlo's official
site.
"When I arrived in Venlo a year
and a half ago, I didn't dare to
dream I would earn this
transfer this soon. I'm very
happy VVV gave me the chance
to show the world what I can
do.
"Now I can do that on a bigger
stage. The club, the people and
the fans in Venlo have always
been good to me. I will never
forget that," he added.
Musa follows in the footsteps of
Keisuke Honda, who traded
Venlo for CSKA in a €6m deal
back in December 2009, and the
Dutch club's president Hai
Berden is proud to once again
have nurtured young talent.
"With his transfer to this
Champions League club he is
making a big leap in his young
career. I'm convinced he will do
even better there," Berden
commented.
"We're glad we were able to
enjoy him and his skills in Venlo
and that our club is once again
a stepping stone towards a big
European club."

There was a certain Adria Carmona in that match. He was our former youth team player and he did very well in that game. Allegri was very impressed with him. I hope he gets promoted very soon.

I was very surprised to see him playing as a left winger and sometimes drifting into the centre to orchestrate play. When he was at Barca, he played as a left back.

As for Messi,he is a gift to Barca from Baba God.
I'm worried about Pedro too. Injuries have not helped. I really hope his form will pick up. If his form improves, he could be our winter signing.

there are lip readers now and there are more than 5 cameras behind man utd's goal where the incident took place.
the fa found this out. . . .
You mean there's video evidence and Suarez has not been banned from football? Racism is a criminal offence and if there were anything concrete like a video evidence to nail him, he'd be or will be on his way to jail right now.

coogar:
388. Our findings of fact which are directly relevant to the Charge are as follows:

(1) In response to Mr Evra's question "Concha de tu hermana, porque me diste in
golpe" ("bleeping hell, why did you kick me"wink, Mr Suarez said "Porque tu eres
negro" ("Because you are black"wink.

(2) In response to Mr Evra's comment "Habla otra vez asi, te voy a dar una porrada"
("say it to me again, I'm going to punch you"wink, Mr Suarez said "No hablo con los
negros" ("I don't speak to blacks"wink.

(3) In response to Mr Evra's comment "Ahora te voy a dar realmente una porrada"
("okay, now I think I'm going to punch you"wink, Mr Suarez said "Dale, negro,
negro, negro" ("okay, blackie, blackie, blackie).

(4) When the referee blew his whistle to stop the corner being taken, Mr Suarez used
the word "negro" to Mr Evra.

(5) After the referee had spoken to the players for a second time, and Mr Evra had
said that he did not want Mr Suarez to touch him, Mr Suarez said "Por que,
negro?".

in my own opinion, suarez should be banned for life in europe.
This is what needs to be proven. There's no other way, I'm afraid. No matter how the case is spinned, it always comes down to the fact that a career/reputation-tarnishing decision was made with no real evidence, "on the balance of probabilities" apparently.

The "It's obvious he did it, therefore he did it" seems to be what the FA has based their findings upon.
Society would be chaotic if real law (and not just the joke FA/FIFA law) worked like this.

coogar:
you're very funny.

suarez admitted he called evra a negro!
what other evidence do you need? this isn't a word of evra against that of suarez.
suarez admitted using the word "once" and not 7 times like evra claimed but he indeed used the word.
Because his version/admission is different and less serious than Evra's accusation, which hasn't been proven beyond reasonable doubt.
Para 182. which is based on Evra's testimony the linguistic experts found the phrase that Evra accuses Suarez of saying to be "slightly unusual" and that perhaps another phrase would have been more appropriate to use if Suarez had intended racism. Interestingly, the panel seemed to ignore this aspect of the experts view.

Para 191 which is based on Suarez's testimony the linguistic experts found the use of the phrase "por que, negro?" sounds right linguistically and culturally. In para 190 and I quote "in Rioplatense Spanish the use of "negro" as described here by Mr Suarez would not be offensive".

So you can throw away the argument that his usage of the word negro is enough to convict him because the proper experts concluded para 194 "if Mr Suarez used the word "negro" as described by Mr Suarez, this would not be interpreted as either offensive or offensive in racial terms in Uruguay and Spanish-speaking America".

Suarez was basically convicted on one man's word i.e. that Evra's account of events were correct even though in a crowded penalty box no one caught Suarez using the word "negro" in a racist manner even though it is alleged he said it a number of times.
In fact, Evra's account of events hasn't been confirmed by any evidence or witnesses.
I want to know what Suarez and Evra said to each other exactly (six different accounts of events aren't helping here) and, more importantly, the tone/intent. The thing is that Evra's version was accepted despite the lack of any concrete evidence and not witness conforming it. Basically, the only evidence that Evra's version is true is that Evra said so.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Luiz Suarez Banned For 8 Matches For Insulting Evra by medjai(m): 8:50am On Jan 01, 2012
There are at least six different accounts of what happened: Suarez and Evra obviously have different accounts, and the four United players all have different accounts as well, and no one confirms Evra's. I frankly can't extract any definite conclusions from that report. What I find odd is that they ruled in favor of Evra based on him being a reliable witness when none of his teammates and no one and no evidence confirmed his version of the story.

We rate him highly and that's why there is a buy back clause inserted in the contract.

I posted this about him in our old thread when Busquets hadn't renewed his contract, here

I think for the right price, we

Oriol Romeu from the La Masia

let him go for £25m
Anyway, yesterday was Fools Day in Spain so I'm sure this was just another media BS. I don't see us going for Romeu anytime soon.
SportsShould The NFF Allow Keshi Take Up Punditry Role With Super Sport For CAN 2012? by medjai(op): 11:18pm On Dec 28, 2011
I'm sure most of us have seen the Super Sport CAN 2012 ad that lists Super Eagles Head Coach, Stephen Keshi, as one of the pundits that will be on parade for their coverage of the event.

So should the NFF allow Keshi take up the job? From what I've heard, the NFF are not very pleased with this and they plan to stop Keshi from going.

Personally, I see nothing wrong with Keshi taking up the role of a pundit with Super Sports while the nations cup is on. I mean, there's no way that's going to affect his job as SE coach. Arsene Wenger, for instance, was a pundit for Euro Sports during the 2010 world cup, so like I said before, there's nothing wrong with Keshi being a pundit.

Hope y'all enjoying the holidays. . . . Meanwhile, City are busy poaching youngsters.

Real Madrid fume as
Manchester City look set to
take 15-year-old Pozo

Manchester City are on the
brink of snapping up one of the
most exciting prospects in
European football - 15-year-old
Real Madrid striker Jose Angel
Pozo.
The Spaniard’s parents have
been in Manchester in the past
few days looking at houses and
schools ahead of a move in
January, which will be
completed in the next few days.
Pozo is very highly rated at
Real but has been swayed by
considerably better wages at
City and the promise of reserve
team football next year.
Looking into the future:
Roberto Mancini
City could have signed him for
free as he does not have a
professional contract with Real
but have instead chosen to pay
the Spanish club around
£100,000 compensation as a
gesture of goodwill.
Chelsea and Liverpool had also
been interested in Pozo, who
scored 34 goals for Real’s
youth team last season but
City moved quickly following the
recommendation of football
development executive Patrick
Vieira.
Real are very upset at losing
one of the stars of their
academy and president
Florentino Perez made a last-
ditch attempt to keep Pozo in a
meeting a few weeks ago.
But the boy’s family believe his
future is better at City and
have been encouraged by City
saying they will try to help
them find jobs.
Signing Pozo is the latest step
in City’s move to bring Europe’s
best young players to the club
so they can cut spending in
future years and fall in line with
UEFA’s financial fair play rules.
