Politics / SGF Speaks On Buhari’s Position In 2019 Election by Meekdon: 7:41pm On Aug 14, 2018
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha has predicted that President Muhammadu Buhari will defeat all opponents in the 2019 general elections.

Mustapha made this known in a statement by Mr. Lawrence Ojabo, Director of Press at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), on Tuesday in Abuja.

He made the statement shortly after receiving a delegation of the Kogi State, All Progressives Congress (APC), including the House member-elect representing Lokoja-Kogi, Mr Haruna Isah.

NAN quoted him as saying that the outcome of the recently concluded by-elections in the three states of Kogi, Bauchi and Katsina was a reflection of the pattern and what would be the outcome of the 2019 presidential elections.

“It’s being predicted that the trend will double and continue into the coming elections. President Muhammadu Buhari will defeat every opposition candidate in their own states and emerge victorious with a landslide.

“I enjoin you, (members of the party) to remain steadfast and to continue with the victory trend in all coming elections,” he said.

Mustapha also assured the senator-elect that the ruling party will record more victories across the country in the coming elections.

Politics / Buhari, APC Involved In Vote-buying – Timi Frank Makes Revelations by Meekdon: 7:14pm On Aug 12, 2018
Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank has accused President Muhammadu Buhari and the leadership of the ruling APC of corrupting the nation’s electoral process through their devious love for massive vote buying.

Frank, in a statement in Abuja, said the Senate and House of Representatives bye-elections held in Bauchi, Katsina and Kogi States respectively at the weekend, have further exposed the desperation of the APC to win local, regional, state and national elections at all cost.

He stated that the ‘vote buying policy’ now adopted by the Buhari-led administration will further weaken the base of the nation’s democratic enterprise and return the country to its inglorious past where outright manipulation of the electoral process to confer undue advantage on the ruling party held sway.

Frank said: “It is a pity that after increasing hunger and poverty in the country through clueless and inept governance in the last three years, the leadership of the APC has now adopted vote buying as a policy geared towards securing fraudulent votes at elections.

“They did it in Ekiti State. Now they have extended their electoral fraud to Katsina, Bauchi and Kogi States. The APC’s electoral corruption which was first publicly applied by the party in Ekiti State, is now on a roller coaster ride across the country.

“Already, this is what they plan to do at the National Assembly where they have increased their budget to induce individual Senators and House of Representatives members from $500,000 to $1million (N352million @CBN rate of N352 to a Dollar) to remove the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, his Deputy, Senator Ike Ekweremadu and Speaker Yakubu Dogara – who they fear may defect from the APC any time soon.

“Corruption is not only about stealing or misappropriating finances as vote buying will not only destroy the integrity of elections in the country, it will bring about people of questionable characters into positions of authority.

“I dare say that compromising an election by deploying huge state resources to buy votes as currently being championed and promoted by the APC is the worst form of corruption that can plague any country.

“One can wager that this evil and wicked policy which was test-runned in Ekiti and freely used in Bauchi, Katsina and Kogi at the weekend with ‘appreciable success’ would be massively deployed to rig the forthcoming general elections in 2019 by the APC.

“With the fraudulent successes the party has recorded in the five states aforementioned, little wonder that the National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, has not stopped boasting that he will remove Saraki as President of the Senate soon.”

He warned that the 2019 elections is at grave risk of being totally hijacked in favour of Buhari and the APC, if nothing is done by patriotic Nigerians and the nation’s allies in the international community to stop the rising anti-democratic trend being orchestrated by the APC to compromise the nation’s electoral processes for their selfish gain.

“The APC is in power today as a result of free, fair and credible elections conducted by the immediate past administration.

“Now that they are in the saddle, they have jettisoned free, fair and credible elections as a way of fraudulently perpetuating the APC in power. This money politics must be checked urgently if our democracy is to survive beyond 2019,” Frank warned.

Politics / Igbos Only Good At Pulling People Down, They Don’t Value Their Own – Okorocha by Meekdon: 3:19pm On Aug 12, 2018
Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has claimed that Igbo are only interested in pulling down people and do not know how to honour their own.
Okorocha said whenever he comes out to contest for president, he gets support from the South West, South South and even the North; but rejected by his own South East region.
The governor spoke while answering question on Igbo presidency when he met with media chieftains in Owerri, the Imo State capital at the weekend.
Okorocha said that any Igbo indigene aspiring to achieve the feat of being the president of Nigeria cannot rely on Igbos.
The governor said “The Igbo do not know how to honour their own. They rather like to run down any of their rising leaders. The pull-him-down syndrome is high in Igbo land. And it is very unfortunate.
“Anytime I come out to run for the presidency of this country, I will not suffer pull-him-down from the North or from the South West or South South, it is only in Igbo land that I will suffer it.
“And they engage in this pull-him-down practice without knowing the overall implications on the Igbos.
“So, it will be out of place for an Igbo aspirant at any given period to think that the Igbo will make him president because Igbos do not value their own. They don’t value what they have.
“But value outsiders. It is in their character. It is in their nature.
“Read the newspapers and go to the social media, all the insults and attacks you get are all from the Igbo. They go to any length to run you down without caring about your good intentions and all the efforts being made to see that things work out fine for the people of the area.
“It is a problem. It didn’t start today. Go down the memory lane, you would discover that the pull-him-down syndrome in Igboland didn’t start today.”

The Police Command in Kaduna State has said four of its operatives died during a gun battle with bandits in the state.
The Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Sabo Yakubu, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna on Sunday.

“At about 0630hrs on August 11, a team of detectives attached to IGP Intelligent Response Team ( IRT) while on operation along Jankasa village of Rigasa in Igabi Local Government Area in Kaduna State was ambushed by bandits.

He said no arrest had so far been made, but assured that all the culprits would be arrested and prosecuted.
Yakubu added that a team of reinforcement had been mobilised to the area in order to bring the perpetrators to book.

“We appeal to the general public to assist the police with useful information toward ensuring that the perpetrators of this dastardly act are arrested and prosecuted,” the police spokesman said.

Politics / Kogi Bye-election: Gov Bello Accuses PDP Of Importing Thugs by Meekdon: 7:53pm On Aug 10, 2018
Ahead of the House of Representatives bye-election in Lokoja/Kotonkarfe constituency, Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has raised the alarm over importation of thugs by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to disrupt the exercise.

He specifically accused two former governors of the state, Ibrahim Idris, popularly known as Ibro, and Captain Idris Wada of spearheading the agenda.

A statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on New Media, Odaudu Joel Minister, alleged that the said thugs were recruited from Toto in Nassarawa State, somewhere in Bayelsa State, and other parts of the Niger Delta.

He advised the public, especially Kogi citizens within the constituency, to be security-conscious and report unusual migration or movement of unfamiliar faces within their territories to security agents who are already on the watch.

The statement read, “The attention of Kogi State Government has been drawn to an ugly development where some desperate elements of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have imported thugs from Toto in Nassarawa State, Bayelsa State and other parts of the Niger Delta into Kogi State to disrupt the Lokoja/Kotonkarfe House of by-election scheduled to hold tomorrow Saturday, 11th August, 2018.

“Former Governors Ibrahim Idris (Ibro) and Captain Idris Wada are spearheads of this nefarious agenda. The Kogi State Government vehemently condemns this evil agenda in its entirety.

“We understand from our deliberate social reforms that if such acts are allowed, it will take our democratic calendar back by centuries.

“We hereby call on all lovers of democracy, friends of Kogi State Government, indigenes of progressive mindset and security agencies to stay alert to their antics.

“We are putting all mechanisms in place from our end to ensure the entire process is peaceful and orderly and safe for every voter to exercise their franchise.”

Crime / IPOB Attacks Biafra Zionists Over Ohanaeze Meeting by Meekdon: 8:27pm On Aug 08, 2018
The indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has vowed that there was no going back in its push to liberate the people of the region from Nigeria.

The IPOB was responding to the claim by the Biafra Zionists Federation, BZF, who had frowned over the on-going peace meeting between the Ohanaeze Ndigbo and the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, describing it as “a sabotage of no consequence.”

The IPOB described the BZF as “stout who masquerade themselves as freedom fighters, adding that Biafran was not about publicity stunts or making laughable childish statements.”

The IPOB said it cannot be a sale out, adding that it was a transparent organisation rooted in the fanatical ideology of Biafra restoration via referendum as preached by their leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
The group, in a statement signed and made available to DAILY POST on Wednesday by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, said, “IPOB does not respond to touts who masquerade as freedom fighters.
“There’s an Igbo adage that says that not every rain that falls deserve to have its water collected. Biafra restoration is not about publicity stunts or making outlandishly ridiculous childish statements to the media to attract attention.
“It is an indictment of character of desperation in some individuals that they feel compelled to meddle into issues that are clearly above their station. IPOB is the largest mass movement in the world, we don’t respond to every passing rant from desperate individuals without any following.
“We recognise the appeal commenting about IPOB related matters may have on any attention seeking individual in order to raise their profile for whatever self serving motive they wish to accomplish.
“There are bound to be in every society, shameless self publicists that will say or do anything to make them feel noticed. It is actually a state of mental disorder. Such individuals are opportunistic, fake and lacking in self confidence.
“IPOB is a transparent organisation rooted in the fanatical ideology of Biafra restoration via referendum as preached by our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. IPOB is not for restructuring and can never be. Our civil disobedience approach will continue until Biafra is restored.
“Agents of Nigerian security agencies, hiding under the cloak of pro-Biafra group or groups are too impetuous, ignorant and naive to understand what is happening between IPOB and Ohaneze Ndigbo.

“At the end of the dialogue between us, Ohaneze Ndigbo will either live up to its obligations of rigorous defence of Igbo Biafra interest or be rendered impotent and irrelevant. Those are the two choices confronting them.”

Politics / Buhari’s Worst Better Than Pdp’s 16 Years – Kenneth Okonkwo by Meekdon: 8:05pm On Aug 03, 2018
Nollywood actor, Kenneth Okonkwo has stated that the worst of President Muhammadu Buhari’s eight year in office, if he gets a second term, would be better than the past 16 years the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had control of power.

Okonkwo also said he owed no one any apology for supporting President Buhari.

The actor turned politician recently came under fire after he stated that people of the South Eastern part of Nigeria will be in the wilderness if they fail to vote for Buhari in 2019.

Reacting to the heavy backlash he got, Kenneth Okonkwo, via an Instagram post on Friday, stated that he owed no one any apology for his statement.

His words: “My attention has been drawn to some negative comments and curses poured out against my person by some ignorant and satanically motivated persons because of my preference of President Muhammadu Buhari as President of this country for his incorruptible and firm character against enemies of Nigeria.

“I have been laughing at their ignorance and wickedness.

“First, these men have not offered any alternative party or Presidential aspirants to challenge Buhari or be compared with him.

“Second, they claim they are Igbos but forgot that in Igboland, it is a cardinal principle and custom that you must respect someone’s personal opinion and must not curse the person, if what the person simply did was to express his opinion and nothing more, “uche onye adighi ya njo”.

“Even if a person says anything you don’t like, provided he did not curse you, you are permitted to throw away his words but restrained by custom and tradition not to do anything to him.

“Third, God himself created man a free moral agent to hold his thoughts and express his opinions as he wishes. He did not even compel man to worship Him.

“So these army of ignorant and wicked men are simply trying to rudely and crudely interfere with my traditional, constitutional and religious rights to freely express myself and hold an opinion, belief and thought as I so wish.

“Let me reiterate that I am a follower of President Buhari and believe in his integrity and good intentions to better the lots of Nigerians and that of Ndigbo and I have no apologies for this. Whoever disagrees with me should produce his own strong reasons and better alternatives.

“Just to remind you but a few. Before Buhari came in, terrorists bombed to pieces, 88 persons at Nyanya in Abuja, bombed the United Nations Building in Abuja, bombed Banex Plaza and even the police headquarters in Abuja killing uncountable number of persons. I don’t need to mention the entire North East that was overun by terrorists with thousands of people beheaded and the video images sent on internet for everybody to see. The terrorists were everywhere and have started forming cells in Lagos and Enugu.

“This Government came and destroyed them across the country. Only their remnants now are going about carrying out criminal activities and you are telling me security is not better now. Our soldiers and officers were sent to fight these terrorists without weapons. They were dying like chicken and when they complained about lack of weapons, they were sentenced to death for mutiny.

“No apologies for supporting Buhari. I respect your views. I not only support him, I pray for him.

“You know the truth, the worst of Buhari in 8 years will be better than the best of PDP in 16 years.

“PDP had 16 years with oil prices very high in-between yet they left us without light (power), without water, without roads, without security, without paying even salaries, indeed without anything.

“Whatever is happening today has its root from that regime. This administration came with bail out for states to pay salaries with the price of oil falling drastically. Tackled security and all that and somebody is telling me I should reconsider the past leaders that brought us into this mess. God forbid.”

Politics / Buhari Replies PDP On Plans To Impeach Saraki While In London by Meekdon: 11:02pm On Aug 02, 2018
The Presidency, Thursday night denied allegation by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that President Muhammadu Buhari’s planned 10-days leave to London was a plot to impeach
the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

The presidency in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu in Abuja, said Buhari is a democrat that does not indulge in any unconstitutional and illegal act.
In the statement titled “Nigerians don’t believe PDP anymore” called on the opposition party to proffer solutions to issues in the country rather than ‘cry wolf’

The statement read: “Claims by the failing Peoples Democratic Party that President Muhammadu Buhari had taken a token a 10-day leave in order to leave the stage for illegal and unconstitutional actions by the administration are both ridiculous and a hollow narrative to garner cheap sympathy.

“That the President, himself a sworn democrat had handed power to his deputy without compulsion is itself exemplary and innovative, something that the PDP failed to produce in their sixteen years of monumental mismanagement and sadistic plunder.

“For the benefit of the doubters, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, the Vice President who acts in the absence of the President is a lawyer of the highest rank and a social rights crusader who had received local and international acclaim before he took the president office.
“It is inconceivable that this is the team to copy the bad manners cast in stone in the PDP.

“We welcome objective criticism and take them seriously and humbly, but Nigerians must by now be tired of a party, the stock in trade of which is to cry wolf where there is none, ostensibly to spread negativity and distract the President’s attention from the cleansing operations he has been mandated carry out.

“The President is carrying out difficult reforms for the future growth of the country, such as the implementation of the ease of doing business, the Treasury Single Account, TSA, the whistleblower process, and hundreds of others, including the massive investment in rail, roads and power.

“If such reforms had happened in 16 years of the PDP, it would have made things much better for the country. “Instead, they seem to be fixated with a desperate quest for power, nothing but power for its own sake because they have nothing to offer. They draw a sadistic pleasure when things appear to be going wrongly, yet they offer nothing by way of remedy or solutions.

“The whole country is fighting corruption and the ordinary citizen is happy about all that is happening. The economic parameters have changed for the better, a clear indication that the administration’s political and economic strategies are working but the opposition is not interested.

“If the PDP doesn’t have anything that would help our farmers, women, the common man and the youth, they should just keep quiet.

“In the end, one thing Nigerians should take away from the cacophonous falsehoods from the PDP and the tenants back in their tent is that they all fear one thing, that their old records will be reopened.”

Politics / Former Oyo Governor, Ladoja Dumps PDP by Meekdon: 11:37pm On Jul 31, 2018
Former governor of Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Ladoja has perfected plans to quit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Vanguard quoted a chieftain of the PDP as saying that that Ladoja’s decision to defect to ADC was not unconnected with alleged plans to impose Engineer Seyi Makinde as the Oyo State PDP governorship candidate in the 2019 general elections.

The former governor is also said to be worried about what our source described as the lack of internal democracy in the management of the affairs of the party by the Oyo state chapter.

The source said, “He (Ladoja) will leave the party in the next four or five days. He is not happy that a governorship aspirant is about to be imposed on the people of Oyo. In 2015, this candidate ran but was not successful.

“I believe the reason for his anger is that whoever emerges as the governorship candidate must pass through a legitimate, democratic process but there is a design to subvert this by ensuring that the person becomes the candidate at all cost.

“Another worry for him is that the party is running short of internal democracy and this would be very dangerous for the PDP in Oyo State. A party that is coming to an electoral contest from the position of weakness needs to know that only by adhering strictly to the rules of the game would it stand a chance of victory,” he said.

On Ladoja’s possible destination, the erstwhile Minister said the ex- governor will not join the All Progressives Congress (APC) for “obvious reasons,” adding that he has his mind up on his next move. Pressed to reveal where the ex-federal lawmaker is headed, he said, “He’s very likely to join the ADC. Stalwarts of that party have been reaching out to him in recent times and I believe they now have their man.”

Politics / Why Nigeria Can’t Cut Ties With South Africa Despite Killings – Ex-envoy by Meekdon: 8:02pm On Jul 28, 2018
The President of Association of Foreign Relations Professionals of Nigeria (AFRPN), Amb. Gani Lawal, has said that Nigerian cannot severe diplomatic ties with South Africa over xenophobic attacks.

Dr Lawal, a former Nigeria Deputy Principal Representative in Algeria, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

NAN reports that killing of Nigerians in South Africa has been on the increase in recent times.

According to Lawal, “we cannot because of xenophobic attacks break diplomatic relations with South Africa because the issue is not between government and government.

”We will continue to work with South Africa to make sure that offenders are apprehended and prosecuted to serve as deterrent to others,” he said.

The former director in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the issue of killings in South Africa was not between government and government but among people on the streets.

“However, South African government also has the responsibility to protect our people and also to advise them on where to go and not to go.

“We have to be able to find a ground to ensure that the attack doesn’t happen by establishing rules of engagement,” he said.

Sports / Arsenal Vs PSG: Emery Reveals Why Ozil Was Made Captain by Meekdon: 7:41pm On Jul 28, 2018
Arsenal manager, Unai Emery, has said he handed Mesut Ozil the captain’s armband for their International Champions Cup (ICC) victory over Paris Saint-Germain, because he believes the German can “take the responsibility”.

Ozil, 29, made his first start for the Gunners under Unai Emery this season on Saturday, and opened the scoring as they thrashed the Ligue 1 champions 5-1.

Emery was asked to explain why he named Ozil his skipper after the game.

“We are working together and giving the responsibility to the player.

“I think he can take the responsibility like a captain, but let’s not forget [Laurent] Koscielny because he is captain as well.

“Petr Cech and Aaron [Ramsey] played as captains in friendly matches. I’m thinking maybe of one more player,” he told the Mirror UK.

Politics / Another Lawmaker Dumps APC For PDP by Meekdon: 7:11pm On Jul 28, 2018
Olusegun Olaleye, a member of the Oyo State House of Assembly representing Ibadan North II state constituency, has left the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking at the Ward 11, Ibadan North Local Government, Olaleye described the switch of allegiance as “a return to Canaan, the promised land”.

According to The Nation, he was received by the PDP Chairman of the local government, Seun Adelore.

The lawmaker, who had on June 28 hinted at his decision to dump the APC, also explained that his decision was based on the “bastardisation of the ideals of Lam Adesina that he believed in, in the current APC in Oyo State.”

According to Olaleye, the leader of the PDP in the state, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, held the “ark of governance in the 2019 election in the state”, describing the PDP as a moving train which boasted of huge followers across the state and good leaders like Senator Ladoja, Chief Sarafadeen Alli and Senator Femi Lanlehin.

He urged the people of the state, particularly the constituency to get their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) so as to greatly determine who governs them in 2019.

Other state lawmakers who accompanied Olaleye to the event include Messrs. Ademola Ige, Fatai Adesina and Niyi Adeoye.

Politics / What APC Said About Gov Ortom’s Defection by Meekdon: 10:07pm On Jul 25, 2018
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reacted to the defection of the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom from the Party.
In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ruling APC described Ortom’s political move on Wednesday as “somewhat surprising.”

The Party recalled efforts made by the National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole to address some of the grievances raised by the Benue State Governor pertaining to the local politics in Benue State.

It said: ”The Governor had left the meeting saying he was satisfied with the assurances given by Party leaders. We are still working on giving effect to the resolutions from the meeting. Therefore, we are somewhat surprised by Governor Ortom’s decision.

“The Party reiterates its earlier position that it respects the rights of every citizen to chose their political affiliation but expresses hope that those who have left the Party will rescind their decisions.

“Even with this development, we don’t think it is too late for reconciliation. We have to continue to talk. As long as people keep their minds open and have the courage to put the real issues on the table, reconciliation is still possible.

“We once again call on members across the country to remain calm as the Party leadership continues to work hard to position the Party strongly for the next general elections.”

Adamawa House of Assembly on Monday said it has no information on the alleged defection of some lawmakers from the All Progressives Congress (APC), to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Information, Alhaji Abubakar Isa (APC-Sheleng), made this known while speaking with newsmen in Yola.

Isa was reacting to Saturday’s claim by the state chapter of the PDP that three serving lawmakers and eight commissioners had joined the party.
He said so far, only member representing Lamurde Constituency under the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Mrs Justina Nkom had informed the house of her defection to the PDP.

Politics / Ekiti: Sule Lamido Attacks Buhari Over Governorship Poll by Meekdon: 8:57pm On Jul 15, 2018
Sule Lamido, former governor of Jigawa State, has lamented the alleged militarization of the just concluded governorship election in Ekiti State.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Presidential aspirant claimed that the alleged militarization was because President Muhammadu Buhari was once a military General.

Addressing journalists in Kano, the PDP chieftain, however, wished that 2019 elections won’t be like the just concluded election in Ekiti State.

According to Lamido, “The election process in Ekiti was heavily militarized; and I know it shouldn’t be a surprise because we are being led by a former military General who was also a former military Head of State, who was known for arresting political leaders.

“Number two, you see, Buhari only says politicians are this, politicians are that, which means he is not a politician.

“So, I think the election in Ekiti, to me, if it is the wish of the people that is announced as the result, I have no quarrels with it. I hope, also, that this is not the kind of thing we are going to experience in 2019 elections because it will spell doom for democracy.

“You see, even before the election, there was this acrimony, the atmosphere was very tensed. You see, sending 30, 000 policemen in Ekiti for a governorship election is very worrisome.

“From what I heard, they said they sent 30, 000 policemen, we don’t know the number of other security agencies and para-military. If in 2019, they are sending 30, 000 policemen to conduct elections in each state, that means 30, 000 times 36, including Abuja—this is very curious.

“If this was how that election was conducted, that means they instilled fear in the people. To me, the election has come and gone, it has been conducted and the winner has been declared, I certainly hope that it is the wish of the people that was declared. Let it be the wish of the people that is being declared, simple.”
