Speaking on the development, Fani-Kayode in a post on his Twitter page, commended Sani for dumping the ruling party.

According to him, Sani through his resignation from the APC has rejected what he terned ‘horrendous plague that Buhari represents’

The former minister wrote: “My good friend Sen. Shehu Sani has left the APC. He has fled the darkness and seen the light.

“He has rejected the horrendous plague that Buhari represents and run from the evil affliction.

Politics / APC Cries Out - How Wike, Abe, Justice Nworgu Are Frustrating Us by Meekdon: 4:39pm On Oct 19, 2018
The Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, on Friday raised the alarm over an ongoing attempt by Justice Chinwendu Nworgu and the Rivers State Judiciary to frustrate the appeal of the judgment handed down by the judge on October 10, 2018 in favour of Senator Magnus Ab’se supporters.

APC alleged that despite having entered an appeal and stay of execution of the judgment, Justice Nworgu has frustrated its efforts to obtain a certified true copy of the judgment in a bid to enable its legal team perfect the appeal process.

A statement sent to DAILY POST by the spokesperson of the state chapter of the party, Chris Finebone claimed that earlier in the week, its “sources” revealed that shortly after the judgment was handed down, a “tripartite accord was struck by Gov. Nyesom Wike, Senator Abe and Justice Chinwendu Nworgu to ensure that Rivers APC is frustrated by ‘whatever possible means” from swiftly perfecting its appeal process through the delay in making available to the party a certified true copy of the judgment.

The statement contained a letter by Lateef O. Fagbemi, SAN, Counsel to the Respondents (Ojukaye Amachree-led EXCO).

The statement quoted Fagbemi’s letter addressed to the Director (Litigation) and copied to the Registrar, High Court of Rivers State, as saying: “Considering the nature of the case, being a pre-election matter of which time is of utmost essence, efforts have been made by the Respondent, prior to this application, to obtain a certified copy of the judgment so as to enable her exercise her constitutional right of appeal against the said judgment in good time, but to no avail. It is now more than 7 days after the delivery of the judgment in the open court, yet all effort to obtain copy of the judgment has proved abortive.”

“We make bold to state that the inexplicable delay to make available the judgment 9 days after Justice Nworgu read it in the open court runs against the requirement that such judgment should be made available to parties within 7 days. Unfortunately, there appears not to be any intention by Justice Nworgu and officials of the Rivers State Judiciary to comply accordingly.

“We cannot but disclose our findings which unequivocally revealed that Justice Nworgu is awaiting directive from Gov. Nyesom Wike on whether to release the judgment to us or not. This is despicable and should be condemned by all who cherish the integrity of the temple of justice.

“As a party, we condemn this underhand scheme to pervert justice and call on the Chief Justice of the Federation, the President, Court of Appeal and the National Judicial Council (NJC) to take notice and swiftly intervene to forestall a resort to self-help in the face of an obvious sabotage of the judicial system by Justice Nworgu, Governor Wike and Senator Magnus Abe working hand in gloves.”

Politics / What Amaechi Discussed With UN Delegation by Meekdon: 7:10am On Oct 19, 2018
The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi on Thursday called for the support of United Nations in establishing stringent punishment for road offenders in the country.

Amaechi made the call when a delegation of the United Nations Decade of Action on Road Safety and Traffic Injury Prevention Nigeria visited him in Abuja.

He said that implementation of stiffer punishments such as going to jail for offenders of the law, then road users, especially politicians, would obey the traffic laws.

Amaechi noted that the emergence of the advocacy from the State parliament, judiciary and the police for enforcement as this will limit the freedom of road users and instill discipline.

“The problem of road safety in Africa, not only in Nigeria, is basically the problem of consequences for action; if every human being can discipline himself or herself, then there won’t be need for parliament.

“The reason there is a parliament is because they have to direct how the society should be governed; the judiciary and police are there for the consequences of disobeying that law.

“So, if you are doing advocacy, don’t tell people not to drink and drive, tell them the consequences of drinking and driving; if they know they will spend two months in prison, they will not drink and drive.

“Go to the state, get the parliament to pass more stringent laws, especially if the consequences include going to jail, no politician will want to go to jail, when you finish with the parliament go to the police to enforce.

“Nigerians are not organised, which is not associated with our population; China, whose population is higher than Nigeria is more organised in obeying traffic regulation,’’ Amaechi said.

Speaking earlier, Dr. Sydney Ibeanusi, Country Director, United Nations Decade of Action on Road Safety and Traffic Injury Prevention Nigeria, said it was collaborating with the government and relevant authorities to ensure that traffic rules and regulations are obeyed, NAN reports.

“The United Nations Decade of Action on Road Safety and Traffic Injury Prevention Nigeria is a multi-sectorial stakeholders forum involving all the key relevant stakeholders involved in road safety issues.

“Injury prevention, which is the mandate of the United Nations, was signed by various countries including Nigeria in 2010 and it was launched in the country in 2011 ; it has been running since then.

“The mandate is to spread advocacy on road safety and injury prevention; a lot of work needs to be done in putting road safety in everyone’s consciousness,” he said.

Politics / 2019: APC Legal Team Threatens Oshiomhole With Contempt by Meekdon: 8:18pm On Oct 18, 2018
The faction of the All Progressives Congress, APC led by Chief Cyril Ogodo in Delta State, has threatened to initiate contempt proceeding against the National Chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

The party faction warned that anyone who violated the order of the Federal High Court, sitting at Asaba for parties to maintain status quo pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit before it by the Ogodo led executive will face the law.

The threat was made in reaction to comments by the legal adviser of the Jones Erue led executive, E.V. Onojeghuo that no order restraining the APC and its chairman (Oshiomhole) was made by the court.

The statement was signed by Fred Olokor Esq., and made available to reporters in Asaba, the state capital.

It said, “Let it be known that anyone who violates the clear orders made on the 17th of October, 2018 stands the risk of having contempt proceedings initiated against them.

“Our attention has been drawn to the erroneous and mischievous interpretation being given to the clear and unambiguous order made on the 17th of October, 2018 by Honourable Justice Toyin Adegoke of the Federal High Court, sitting in Asaba in the suit brought by Cyril Ogodo & 2 ors Vs. Adams Oshiomhole, APC & Ors that all parties maintain status quo pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.

“At the resumed hearing of the case, Counsel to the Plaintiffs (O. J. Oghenejakpor, Esq.) who had filed a Motion on Notice to restrain 1st and 2nd Defendants (i.e APC and Oshiomhole) from submitting any list of candidates from Delta State to INEC other than the list of candidates that emerged from the Cyril Ogodo led executive’s primaries, which was duly served on all the Defendants, urged the Court to hear the motion on notice. But because the Defendants served counsel to the Plaintiffs their processes which included preliminary objections in court on the 17th of October, 2018 the motion was not moved.

“In a bid to diligently prosecute the case, the plaintiffs’ counsel applied for a stand down for a few hours to respond to the preliminary objections filed by the Defendants and served in court. The stand down was granted.

“And before the resumption of hearing after the stand down, the Plaintiffs’ counsel was able to file his response to the preliminary objections and was ready to argue the said preliminary objections and the substantive application. However, because the Defendants main aim in court was to stall the hearing of the case, they vehemently argued that they were not ready to respond on points of law orally. They insisted on filing a reply and applied for an adjournment of the case.

“When it was clear that the Defendants counsel’s intention was to stall the hearing of the case, the Plaintiff Counsel called upon the court to preserve the res in the matter which is to restrain the APC from submitting any list of candidates from Delta State to INEC for the 2019 general elections except candidates that emerged from the Cyril Ogodo anchored primaries.

“The court then inquired from the Counsel to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) if any list of candidates had been submitted to INEC as at 17th of October, 2018. The INEC counsel confirmed to court that no list of candidates for Delta State have been submitted to INEC yet.

“At this point the Honourable Judge ordered that all parties should maintain status quo. The clear meaning and intent of the status quo, therefore, is to preserve the res by ensuring that no list of candidates is submitted to INEC until the determination of the substantive matter.

“This was why the judge ordered for accelerated hearing and fixed November 1st and 2nd 2018 for the hearing and determination of the case.”

“It is therefore pedestrian and mischievous for anyone to suggest or argue that the Federal High Court in Asaba did not restrain APC from submitting any list of candidates for Delta State to INEC.

“The counsel to the 1st and 2nd Defendants (APC and the APC National Chairman) was in court and clearly understood what the order meant. Counsel will thus be unduly exposing his clients to the risk of contempt proceedings if he allows them to be misled by the mischievous interpretation of the Prophet Jones factional Legal Adviser as is being circulated in the media.”

Politics / Akeredolu’s Wife, Betty Has ‘taken Over’ As Ondo Governor – Pastor Giwa by Meekdon: 6:29pm On Oct 16, 2018
Senior Pastor of Awaiting the Second Coming of Jesus Christ Gospel Church, Akure, Ondo State, Adewale Giwa has accused the wife of the state governor, Mrs. Betty Akeredolu, of meddling in the affairs of the state.

Giwa alleged that Mrs. Betty had turned herself to a decision-maker by unilaterally imposing some decisions on the state.

The pastor, in a statement to DAILY POST on Tuesday, alleged that the wife of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has hijacked primary schools’ renovation project and other contracts in the state.

The clergyman also lambasted Mrs. Akeredolu for turning herself to “nuisance” in the social media, especially on Facebook.

“One doesn’t know who is the governor of Ondo State between Governor Akeredolu and his wife. I have carefully observed how governance is being run in the state.

“A situation whereby a governor is allowing his wife to make some decisions is uncalled for. From my findings, Mrs. Akeredolu is the governor of Ondo state not her husband.

“Imagine the scenario of which the governor’s wife dictates what is happening in the state. Ondo State cannot be ruled by a wife of the governor.

“The contracts that supposed to be handled by competent hands are being given to the family members of Mrs. Akeredolu.

“No wonder everything remains stagnant since inception of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu. The wife determines who to be commissioners, Special Advisers etc.

“Also, the rate at which Mrs. Akeredolu is operating Social Media, especially the Facebook is uncalled for. Imagine the wife of the office that supposed to respect her office has turned herself to nuisance?

“This action is nothing, but ridiculous. I hereby call on the governor to address this situation before it gets out of hand,” the statement read.

Politics / Hold Fayemi Responsible For Your Salary Arrears – Fayose Tells Ekiti Workers by Meekdon: 7:48pm On Oct 10, 2018
The outgoing Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has asked workers to collect their outstanding four months salary arrears from the incoming governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.

He said the monies he could have used to pay them as expected had been withheld by the Federal Government for Fayemi’s resumption.

“They paid other states Paris Refund, they didn’t pay Ekiti; Fayemi should help me pay the money.

“They didn’t pay N2.2bn Budget Support Fund; my promise is fulfilled but the money is in the hands of government, they should help me to pay.”

Fayose spoke on Wednesday during the inauguration of a new school he built in his Afao-Ekiti home country as part of his legacies projects.

The governor told the gathering that he did not borrow money from anywhere to fund any of the projects.

“With all these legacies projects, I didn’t borrow any dime. I do not owe any debt, if they say I’m owing; they should show evidence of transaction.

“Besides, no governor can borrow without the knowledge of the Ministry of Finance and the Debt Management Office.”

Fayose urged the incoming administration not to neglect the school or abandon any legacy project.

He said the school named Gifted Academy International would receive students from Ekiti and outside on 50:50 ratio.

“The school is equipped with modern equipment, laboratories, furniture and Closed-Circuit Television for surveillance,” he said.

He urged the people of the town to preserve the heritage and support government in sustaining it.
