Croatia coach, Zlatko Dalic, has admitted he will ask Barcelona midfielder, Ivan Rakitic for ideas on how to stop Argentina’s Lionel Messi in Thursday’s Group D match between the teams. They go into the fixture top of the group with three points, after defeating Nigeria 2-0 on Saturday, while Argentina were held to a 1-1 draw with Iceland. Messi had a penalty saved in that draw and Dalic wants suggestions from Rakitic on how best to frustrate his Barcelona teammate. “Of course, Rakitic will be my assistant for the next three days, and we will certainly look for some advice on how to stop Messi,” he told a news conference. “I always ask my players about such things and about many other things. I love communicating and I am happy to accept every tip. “Ivan likes it too and he will tell me, I will use all the information I can.” Dalic said he would also sit down with Real Madrid midfielders, Luka Modric and Mateo Kovacic, to get their input. “They played against him and [former Real Madrid coach Zinedine] Zidane was prepared for such things,” Dalic said. But the Croatia boss said it was also important not to lose focus on the overall team strategy, adding: “There is no perfect way to stop Lionel Messi. He shot 10 times last night [against Iceland], but we must stop his attacks by compactness. “I think he is the greatest player in the world – but while one excellent player can make a great result, a great team does the job much better.” source: http://www.kendogist.com/2018/06/world-cup-2018-croatia-coach-to-ask.html

Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi has reacted to the team’s 2-0 loss to Croatia in their Group D opening in World Cup 2018. The Super Eagles skipper said he was baffled at the manner the team conceded two goals from set pieces. An own goal from midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo and a penalty from Luka Modric condemned Nigeria to a 2-0 defeat at the Kaliningrad Stadium. Mikel said, “It’s difficult to explain. We talked about it and considering the fact that we trained on it. “It’s four goals conceded now from set-piece. We have to keep going to try to improve on set pieces.” Mikel was also quick to play down talk of his teammates’ inexperience against the star-studded Croatian side. “I think the young guys did well but we just have to keep going and trying to get better,” he added. http://www.kendogist.com/2018/06/world-cup-2018-why-nigeria-lost-2-0-to.html

Leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, Chief Edwin Clark has spoken on how former President Olusegun Obasanjo supported the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015. He said Obasanjo’s condemnation of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan played a part in the latter’s defeat. “My disagreement with him is that he alleged that some people are corrupt and I know that he is also corrupt. He was one of those who made President Muhammadu Buhari to win in the last election by condemning the former President (Goodluck Jonathan), who he also made President”, Clark told Punch. “He made him (Jonathan) governor because of his hatred for Alamieyeseigha. He (Obasanjo) made Jonathan vice president and contributed to his becoming President. “So, I don’t know what went wrong. Jonathan became like somebody that was carrying leprosy and because of that, Obasanjo started abusing the Ijaw. “Obasanjo is still my friend. We have always been very friendly. Recently, somebody said we will meet. I am ready to meet with him at any time. “He is not my enemy. When he says things that are true, I praise him. When he says things that are bad, I condemn him. That is politics.” http://www.kendogist.com/2018/06/obasanjos-campaign-against-jonathan.html

Former Nigeria striker, Victor Ikpeba, has warned supporters not to insult players and coaches of the Super Eagles, following their 2-0 defeat to Croatia in their opening Group D match on Saturday night. Oghenekaro Etebo’s own goal and a Luka Modric penalty, ensured that Gernot Rohr’s men began the tournament on a bad note. But Ikpeba, writing on his verified Twitter account, insisted the Eagles are not out yet. “Criticism is part of football. But our people should desist from insulting our players and coaches. “We are not out of the World Cup yet,” he tweeted. Nigeria take on Iceland in their next group game on Friday, needing to win to remain in the competition. http://www.kendogist.com/2018/06/nigeria-vs-croatia-ikpeba-warns-fans.html

The Senator representing Delta North senatorial district, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, has provided the real reason for the face-off between the executive and the legislature. According to the lawmaker, the fight between the two arms was as a result of the National Assembly’s resolve to resist the emergence of a dictator in the governance of Nigeria. Addressing reporters in Asaba, Nwaoboshi noted that the country cannot relapse into dictatorship again. He also insisted that, “The trial of some Senators particularly those opposed to the dictatorial views of the executive was politically motivated. The Senate Committee Chairman on Niger Delta lamented that, “The allegation being levelled against the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki that he sponsored armed robbers was the height of persecution.” source: http://www.kendogist.com/2018/06/why-national-assembly-is-at-war-with.html

Tundun Abiola, daughter of the late Chief MKO Abiola, the presumed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, has slammed Kogi lawmaker, Senator Dino Melaye, over his earlier criticism of the posthumous award of Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (GCFR) bestowed on her father. We recalls that Melaye during plenary in the upper legislative chamber of the National Assembly argued that Abiola cannot be awarded GCFR because he’s dead, and therefore no longer a Nigerian. “A dead man is not a citizen of Nigeria and can’t receive the award,” he was quoted as saying. In reaction to Melaye’s statement, Tundun, while speaking on Channels TV, described the lawmaker’s comments as ‘laughable’ , saying her father gave his life for Melaye to enjoy democracy which allows him to say whatever he wants. She further called on the lawmaker to make arguments that are sensible and logical, rather than talking ‘rubbish’. She said, “I thought it was a laughable statement, but I’m really happy that Dino Melaye can stand in the Senate and make laughable statements. People like my father gave their lives for Dino Melaye to stand in the Senate and talk such rubbish, quite frankly. “If we were still under the military, would he be able to do that? This is the beauty of democracy. Any honour that can be given should be given, and he is a Nigerian. It holds no water, Dino Melaye’s argument. “He has every right to make an argument, this is the role of the opposition in a robust democracy and he’s doing that, but, for goodness’ sake, let the argument be logical and sensible. “Is he going to propose that somebody like Awolowo who’s also a GCFR holder should be stripped of his title because he’s died? I mean, it’s ridiculous “Moral indignation is also a part of human nature but that’s not what I’m hearing from Mr Melaye; he’s just being petty in the guise of moral indignation.” http://www.kendogist.com/2018/06/my-father-gave-his-life-for-you-mko.html

The kinsmen of former president Goodluck Jonathan are now rooting for the All Progressives Congress, APC, come 2019. The people of Jonathan’s Bayelsa East senatorial district have thrown their weight behind the APC ahead of the 2019 National Assembly elections. The people declared their support over the weekend during the formal declaration of a two-time former Commissioner for Finance in Bayelsa State and chieftain of the APC in Bayelsa state, Dr Silva Opuala Charles. Charles declared to run for the Bayelsa East senatorial district presently occupied by Senator Ben Bruce. The senatorial district seat has been rotated among Ogbia, Brass and Nembe local government areas since 1999 on a one-term of four years basis. With that arrangement, someone from Nembe is expected to mount the seat in 2019. The leaders from Ogbia, Brass and Nembe lamented the lack of effective representation at the declaration ceremony held at the Civic Centre, Opu Nembe. They vowed to ensure the election of Charles to attract adequate development to the oil-rich district. Among the leaders were HRH Ralph Canon Sambo, the Ama Dabo 1 of SamboAma, Twon Brass, HRH Otonye Efebo Shidi, the Amadabo of Shidiama, Chief Augstine Okpu, HRH Consul Oluku, Chief Austin Aye- Martins Gboro, Mingi Yai Gboro 1 of Nembe, in their separate remarks expressed optimism that Charles would restore the lost glory of the senatorial district which is one of the live wires of the Nigeria economy. Charles in his address said that the APC remains the best hope to transform Bayelsa East and solve its current challenges. He said it is time for Bayelsa East to get quality representation in the Red Chambers which would be commensurate to the huge contributions of the area to the Nigerian economy. According to him, “We are suffering from huge developmental challenges. There are quality representations in other climes that have brought meaningful development to their areas. “If we profile our contribution against the projects from the federal and state government, here is a huge disparity that needs to be addressed urgently if we must grow sustainability, and I have come on a rescue mission with the theme: Making Bayelsa East to work.” source: http://www.kendogist.com/2018/06/2019-goodluck-jonathans-kinsmen-dump-ex.html
