Technology MarketNigerian Oshi Agabi Makes A Computer That Can Smell Explosives, Illness by meethumb(op): 1:13pm On Aug 29, 2017
Mr. Oshi Agabi, a Nigerian, has unveiled a computer that can be used in airports or other commercial areas to detect explosives.

Unveiling the computer at the TEDGlobal conference in Tanzania, Agabi said the device is based not on silicon but on mice neurons.

According to him, the system has been trained to recognise the smell of explosives and could be used to replace traditional airport security.

BBC report revealed that the modem-sized device could provide the brain for future robots.

However, Experts said that making such systems mass-market was challenging.

But Mr Agabi has already accomplishes this function with a fraction of the power which would take a silicon-based processor. "Biology is technology. Bio is tech," he says. "Our deep learning networks are all copying the brain."

Mr Agabi launched his start-up Koniku over a year ago, has raised $1m (£800,000) in funding and claims it is already making profits of $10m in deals with the security industry.

Koniku Kore is an amalgam of living neurons and silicon, with olfactory capabilities — basically sensors that can detect and recognise smells.

"You can give the neurons instructions about what to do - in our case we tell it to provide a receptor that can detect explosives," says Mr Agabi

He added that the device is not only for bomb detection, it could be used to detect illness by sensing markers of a disease in the air molecules that a patient gives off.

Speaking with BBC after the prototype device was shown off at TED - Mr Agabi said, the pictures of which cannot yet be publicly revealed - has partially solved one of the biggest challenges of harnessing biological systems - keeping the neurons alive

"This device can live on a desk and we can keep them alive for a couple of months," he told BBC.

PoliticsBuhari’s Directive Against IPOB, A Hate Order - Says SERG by meethumb(op): 7:11pm On Aug 27, 2017
The South East Revival Group (SERG) has described as hate order, the marching order issued by President Muhammadu Buhari to service chiefs to crush the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Decrying the order issued by the President, in its reaction to the directive, the group in a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Chief Willy Ezugwu strongly condemned the order, saying it was part of plans for ethnic cleansing in Igbo land.

The reaction came at the Weekend after an emergency meeting by the central executive of the socio-political organisation in Enugu.

The statement added that "it is worrisome that a non-violent body like the IPOB should be included in an order to crush violent groups and criminal gangs.

"For us in the SERG, this directive is clearly a hate order, targeted against the people of South East and part of a plot to begin ethnic cleansing in Igbo land.

"Rather than support the on-going effort of South East Governor's Forum to address the development challenges in the zone, the President Buhari administration has again openly displayed its hatred to the people of the zone.

"Unarmed Igbo people of the South East have been killed, many more injured under the president government for holding an opinion. That is war against humanity.

"We call on the federal government to urgently address the development deficit in the South East region, which is the reason for the renewed agitation in the region.

"The South East is the only zone in Nigeria with the five states and the only part of the country with little or no federal presence.

"We also urge the President Muhammadu Buhari administration to order the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing to begin massive rehabilitation of federal roads across the South East zone.

"We believe that it’s time to end the shedding of innocent blood and sowing of seeds that fan the embers of disunity to preserve the country as one indivisible entity", the group stated.

PoliticsBiafra: Anyone Who Tries To Arrest Me Will Die - Nnamdi Kanu by meethumb(op): 5:35pm On Aug 27, 2017
The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has dared the federal government of Nigeria over attempt to re-arrest him. This is even as he vowed that anyone who attempts to arrest him will die.

IPOB leader stated this on Sunday at Boys Technical College (BTC) located along Faulks road which is a major link to Ariaria International Market Aba in Aba Abia State where members of IPOB Faulks road Zone I and over 20, 000 supporters of the group received him.

He also seized the opportunity to reiterate that there won’t be election in Anambra come this November or any part of “Biafra Land” even in 2019 unless there was a date for referendum which the group has been clamouring for.

IPOB leader who paid tribute to those reportedly killed at National High School Aba by security agencies in his words said “Here we are, is Biafra Land. Aba is the spiritual capital of Biafra land. We started in Aba in 2015 at CKC (Christ the King Catholic Cathedral). That day, heaven authenticated our move that IPOB will restore Biafra and that's what we've come to do. We died in Aba; At National High School.

“They shot and killed us in other places in Biafra land when they were protesting for my release. As our people rest in the grave, we'll never rest until Biafra is restored. I don't care what they say in Abuja. I don't give a damn what they say in Lagos.

“I'm a Biafran and we are going to crumble the zoo. Some idiots who are not educated said that they'll arrest me, and I ask them to come. I'm in Biafra land. If any of them leaves Biafra land alive know that this is not IPOB. Tell them that's what I said.

“Tell buhari that I'm in Aba and any person who comes to arrest Nnamdi Kanu in Biafra land will die here. I'll never go on exile I assure you.

“Some people talk about restructuring, are we doing restructuring of Nigeria now? Are we doing fiscal federalism? Are we doing devolution? What we want is Biafra!

“Forget all the nonsense they write about us. We are not slowing down and no man born of a woman can stop us. They thought we are joking and God gave us a simple message that no one can stop us. The movement to restore Biafra is unstoppable.

“The message of heaven is what I bring to you. Don't be afraid. The plans of our enemies are not going to be actualized. The enemies are planning, but we are formidable.

“We are going to boycott Anambra State election. After Anambra 2017, in 2019, there'll be no elections in Biafra land. Signed and sealed. My message is that there'll not be election in Biafra land ever again until they give us date for referendum.”

PoliticsIn Nigeria, We Should Be Talking About Correction, Not Recession - Frank Nneji by meethumb(op): 1:48pm On Aug 15, 2017
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ABC Transport Company, Mr. Frank Nneji has said that Nigeria's economy is not in recession, but needs a total correction.

"In Nigeria, we should be talking about correction, not recession, says the business mogul.

Mr. Nneji stated this on Saturday, in Aba, while speaking at the 2017 International Youth Day Conference held in Leadership Center in Aba, Abia State.

The event is a commemoration of world annual international youth day, which came every 12th August, powered by United Nations (UN), brought to Aba by Vision Alive Foundation.

Addressing the event, Mr. Nneji who came prepared told the youth who graced the event that the only problem in Nigeria is because the youth is not willing to see opportunity in every corner of the country.

He further stated that, though, the way the country is structured is killing businesses, especially those in the South East - while pointing out the lack of good roads, seaport, and lack of steady power supply in the country.

He added that in Nigeria, opportunities are everywhere, and the youth should engage their selves in something meaningful.

Narrating how he started his transport company, Mr. Nneji said, the youth should not cease to take a risk whenever they see an opportunity for good.

According to him, "while growing up, I wasn't expected to own a transport company, rather as a student I gave all my time in my studies. - I never dream that I could own a transport company, but I just did because I saw the opportunity and took it.

Speaking on the Nigeria's economic recession, he said, to him, the country is not in recession, but it needs correction by those at the helm of affairs.

He advised the federal government to look backward in the late 90's when the country was flourishing.

The ABC transport boss said the federal government should stop the dependence on oil in order to generate revenue, rather provide an enable environment to engage the youth in like Agriculture, Technology and Automobile.

Mr. Nneji said if proper correction can be done on the country's economy, we won't be talking about recession because the resources are there, it only needs to be harnessed.

Meanwhile, Prof. Pat Utomi, Sam Hart, and other dignitaries were present at the conference.

BusinessMade In Aba Goods Get A Global Marketing  boost by meethumb(op): 2:24pm On Aug 14, 2017
The recent campaign on the promotion of made in Aba goods by both the Abia State government and some members of the National Assembly representing the state has taken a new dimension as a Californian based firm, Comfort Stevens LLC has entered to give a global boost and make the dream a reality.

Speaking during the grand launch of the company in Aba, the CEO AF Comfort Stevens LLC Dr John Nwankwo said the establishment of the firm in Aba is a dream come through for him and that the new move was to create value and economic empowerment through online media marketing e-commerce methodology.

According to him, "this is an online driven technology platform that connects, artisans, manufacturers, producers, entrepreneurs and exporters together to sell their goods and brains for profit. This is a global brand.

"Our record shows that, Aba produces about one million units pairs of shoes everyday. Now, buyers from other parts of Africa and the world, don't need to be here in person to buy. They can order for made in Aba products in the comfort of their homes and business premises and it will be delivered to them.

"This platform is not open for people to sell whatever they want. We've made several announcement on several media and we sent out about eight thousand e-mails to vedors(those who have products to sell) be it food, electronics, agric produce, shoes, belts etc. Through the e-mails, when people respond, they'll be told when to bring their products for inspection. We must make sure that whatever will be sold under this platform is verified and found to be of the best quality before such vendors will be permitted to sell on this platform."

"The distinguishing factor between this move and other online shopping platforms is that we have product lines. We have our factory here in Aba and our branded accessories that are proudly made here in Aba with world class standards. Our technology is cloud based and cannot be interrupted. This platform will take our youths off the streets as we are collaborating with about five universities where we intend to draw one thousand, two hundred and sixty youths within the first six months that will be empowered to sell our products.

"We have secured about fourteen ninety capacity buses each, which will be fully branded to be used to convey these youths within the designated cities in Nigeria for direct sell to consumers all over our country. It will grow from there. I tell you, Nigeria is a virgin land for business. I don't see why people should be unemployed here in Nigeria.

Adding her voice to the beneficial aspects of Comfort Stevens LLC, Director General, Abia State Marketing Agency and Quality Management, Chief (Mrs) Uwaoma Olewengwa disclosed that this new move will uplift made in Aba campaign to a greater height.

CelebritiesKcee Sponsors Three Abia Students Through Secondary School by meethumb(op): 4:33pm On Jul 22, 2017
Music star and the boss of Five Star Recording Label, Kcee, has approved the scholarships of three graduating primary school students in Abia State.

The "Limpopo" crooner announced the kind gesture earlier today on his social media page.

According to him, “Exactly four years ago, I was on my way to Abia State for an event when I stopped by a community in Bende local government to visit a long-time friend and brother.

"We exchanged pleasantries and on my way out he told me about a certain foundation which he was using to provide free Nursery and Primary education to his people and we all went there."

“On getting there, I was highly impressed and really inspired by such a kind gesture. Fast forward to 2017, a few weeks ago to be precise, he sent a message and video clip showing the first set of the primary schools pupils that are graduating into secondary school and I decided I was going to support them with writing materials, band sets and all that...

...but on getting to Igbere on Wednesday, after seeing how brilliant the kids were, I had no other option than to take up the responsibility of training the three best graduating students throughout their secondary school stage as my own little way of encouraging early education in our society.”

“We all can always help in making our society a better place regardless of how small it is”.

PoliticsMessage To Nigerian Youth, Home And Abroad: Call For Youth Dialogue With Nigeria by meethumb(op): 3:04pm On Jun 24, 2017
The state of our dear country needs urgent intervention of all youth both home and abroad. My today’s message goes to those of us that live outside Nigeria. We need to wake up to the responsibility of finding a lasting solution to the consistent problems in our country.

The exposure and experience we have all gathered in various developed countries we are should be used to develop our country. Recently, seven Nigerians were selected and elected as Member of Parliament in Britain and that shows the impact Nigerians are making in various countries they are.

Check most government parastatals and big private companies all over the world, Nigerians are known to be one of the best. We are doing great outside our home country because we are given opportunity to contribute and display our talents. Nigeria leaders need to have a rethink. Capable youths need to be given opportunity to contribute in the smooth running of the Nigeria system of government.

It is high time we allowed fresh blood to be part of the system because this recycling process of government needs to stop. Youths are now being recognized across the countries and they are being given opportunity to rule and assume leadership positions. Nigeria also needs to follow suit. And to my fellow youths, let us go back home and develop our land. We shouldn’t wait until other countries refuse to give Nigerians the right to become citizens of their countries.

Let us all come together and rescue our country. Let us stop talking and walk the talk. Let us have an open meeting with our leaders. The glory of Nigeria should be our pride. Let us make it work so that we can be bold enough to be called Nigerians anywhere we find ourselves in the world.

Also, to my fellow youths in Nigeria, I know you are all fed up of the situation and how to help the country is the major challenge. We can do this together. We want all youths to join us in one voice to make an impact. Let us have Youth National meeting with our leaders to demand our rightful positions.

To the Nigeria Leaders, give opportunity to the youth. Start showing us how you have been running the country for over 60 years, maybe our little knowledge can help. Every position in the country has vice or deputy. They need to start giving those deputy positions to the youth so as to show us around and see where we can contribute. We can all make Nigeria great.

PoliticsSen Dino Melaye Recall: An ILL Wind That Will Blow Nobody Any Good - Group by meethumb(op): 5:32pm On Jun 22, 2017
The forum of Civil Society Organizations in Nigeria view with alarm, disgust, trepidation and consternation the attempt by Governor Yahaya Bello to use the agency of the office of State Governor of Kogi to embark on the misadventure of the mistaken and ill advised political move of the Distinguish Senator Dino Melaye Recall process, a reactionary move which insults the collective intelligence of all Kogites and all well meaning Nigerians.

Senator Dino Melaye has distinguished himself as a fearless, bold, patriotic and noble Nigerian Legislator, who by his unwavering insistence on best legislative and best governance practices has carved a special niche for himself in the collective Nigerian psyche.

When it was unpalatable, Senator Dino Melaye gave undiluted support to the Right distinguished Senator Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki by seriously canvassing and insisting on the constitutional imperative for the independence of the three coordinate arms of government by insisting that the three arms of government must not conspire against the people of Nigeria and that the legislative arm of government must be allowed to carry out its prescribed constitutional functions without dictation from extraneous quarters.

The people's Senator, Dino Melaye has given all in the defense of all Nigerians irrespective of creed, party affiliation, status and must be allowed to continue the good work and to take it up to the next level.

Senator Melaye was, is and remains an important bolt in the political effort to stabilize our democracy and give it the extra dimension of permanence if deserves commendation and not condemnation, that is why Nigerians are in ferment and demanding to know the reason for the unpopular and anti people efforts by Governor Bello Yahaya to distract Senator Melaye from carrying out his mandate which was freely given.

In the foregoing, we wish to formally appreciate Senator Melaye's unprecedented sense of loyalty to the presiding officer of the senate as well as for refusing to succumb to blackmail and intimidation.

"We are thus very shocked that the young Governor Yahaya Bello who entered the Guinness book of records as the first Nigerian Governor to owe workers salaries for more than fifteen months that is almost two years is embarking on the satanic project".

"We chuckle that this inhumane Governor who does not care for the welfare of his people is wasting scarce resources of the state to witch hunt, blackmail and further impoverish the good people of Kogi State".

"We warn and formally put Governor Yahaya Bello on notice that we are fully prepared to mobilize the teeming millions of Nigerians who totally identify with the patriotic trajectory of the Distinguished Senator Dino Melaye, and to March on Lugard Government House Lokoja to let all genuinely motivated Kogites and Nigerians know that we really mean business".

"We direct him with all due respects in the interest of peace, harmony and amity to desist from evil move forthwith failing which we shall without further recourse to him make Kogi State which has been criminally mismanaged under his tenure ungovernable....A word is enough for the wise".

Lastly, we call on the Kogi State House of Assembly to call Governor Yahaya Bello to order for the grossly unpopular move, which is designed to make the confluence State to join the league of States facing internal State collapse, we so advice.

Signed:

Comrade Friday Maduka

Chairman.

PoliticsQuit Notice: Igbo Are Not Cowards, We Are Going Nowhere - Ohanaeze Ndi-igbo by meethumb(op): 8:11am On Jun 08, 2017
The Ohanaeze Ndi-Igbo Youth Council (OYC), and other Igbo groups has condemned the October 1 ultimatum issued by the Coalition of Northern Youths (CNY) to South-easterners living in the North to move out.

Reacting to the order, yesterday, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council (OYC) said with over N44 trillion investments in the North, Igbo were going nowhere.

It said Igbo must be ready to defend themselves, in the event of any provocation and attack.

Speaking to newsmen after an emergency meeting, tagged: “Igbo mandate against genocide,” OYC National President, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, said the ultimatum was a declaration of war and should be treated as such by security agents.

“This is a sad development, considering efforts being made to unite this country; this is a sad commentary, considering the sacrifices Igbo have made in this country. We, however, wish to state unequivocally that Igbo are not cowards. We are not afraid of Alhaji AbdulAziz Suleiman, Yerima Shetima and their cohorts.

“Ndigbo want to make it categorically clear that we are ready; we cannot be intimidated by their ranting. The era of taking properties belonging to Ndigbo by force is gone. We won’t let that happen again.”

Meanwhile, Abacityblog recalled that various youths groups in the North had on Tuesday, in what it called ‘Kaduna Declaration,’ ordered Igbo to commence relocation out of the northern states before October 1, over the agitation for a sovereign nation by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

PoliticsIPOB Dares DSS: Release Ifeanyi Ubah Or Face Our Wrath by meethumb(op): 4:28pm On May 27, 2017
The Indigenous People of Biafra has condemned the continued detention of the Chairman and CEO of Capital Oil and Gas, Ifeanyi Ubah, saying should anything happen to him those keeping him in detention should be prepared to face the wrath of the group.

IPOB said, “We want the DSS to know that an attack on Ifeanyi Ubah is an attack on Biafra; the DSS should know that we are watching on this matter and must continue following it until it gets to its logical conclusion”.

The claimed that the arrest of Ubah was part of the plots to frustrate Igbo businessmen.

In a press statement issued by IPOB’s media and publicity secretary, Emma Powerful, the group claimed its intelligence unit had uncovered a grand plot to kill businesses in Igboland.

It said such actions were indicative that the people of the area were no longer needed in Nigeria.

The group wondered why a court of competent jurisdiction would order the release of Ubah yet the Department of State Services would continue to hold him.

The statement read in part, “We have been informed by IPOB intelligence unit that this Ifeanyi Uba arrest by the DSS was the perfection of hard economic policies against our people and strangulation of Igbo businessmen in Nigeria.

“The ground plan to stop every business controlling by our people in Nigeria is eating deep in Nigeria economy because our people are the major businessmen in Nigeria today.

“Arresting Dr. Ifeanyi Uba because of his legitimate business proves to all and sundry that we are no more needed in the contraption called Nigeria.

“In line with this, we warn that Ifeanyi Uba should be released before it is too late or they will see the power of IPOB under Nnamdi Kanu all over the world; we cannot afford to watch them continue to humiliate and intimate him for no just cause.”

PoliticsAbia Governorship: I’ll Challenge Appeal Judgment At Supreme Court – Ogah by meethumb(op): 12:14pm On Aug 20, 2016
Dr. Sampson Uchechukwu Ogah whose Certificate of Return as the Governor of Abia State, issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), was nullified by the Appeal Court sitting in Abuja, on Thursday has vowed to challenge the verdict at the Supreme Court.

Ogah, through his organisation said that it still has confidence in the judiciary and believes that the Supreme Court will look into the judgment judiciously and correct the anomalies.

But, the Traditional Prime Minster of Umudiawa Kingdom, Chief Okezie Ezigbo in his reaction, said that the judiciary has proven that they are transparent.

He said; “Now that the legal battle is over, all hands must be on deck to move Abia forward, as the governor is out to deliver dividends of democracy to Abians.”

Ezigbo, who doubles as the chairman of Umuhia North LGA, said that now that the battle is over, the governor will double his efforts to ensure that he arrives at a very good result in serving Abians at very good record time”.

Meanwhile, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Enyinnaya Apollos said that Ogah has the right to appeal and that the governor is ready to meet him at Supreme Court.

“The court gave a thorough examination of the matter before delivering the judgment, the five justices unanimously agreed on that judgment. Majority of Abians are happy and rejoicing over the judgment, that is the reason why the governor said that he is reinvigorated to serve them more”, the governor’s spokesman said.

PoliticsArmy Arrest One, Launches Manhunt For Biafra Newspaper Publishers,Vendors In Aba by meethumb(op): 7:45am On Aug 17, 2016
Newspaper vendors in Aba are now living in fear as to not sell pro-Biafra newspapers, likewise the publishers. According to sources, Soldiers have launched a manhunt for publishers of pro-Biafra newspapers in Aba, Abia State.

The source, who is also a vendor, who spoke on the condition of anonymity revealed that a group of soldiers accosted him and some of his colleagues demanding them to disclose the identity of the publishers of the Biafra newspapers circulating in the city.

It was gathered that one of the vendors identified as Emeka is suspected to have been arrested by soldiers.

Abacity Blog recalls that same incident had taken place in Aba on March 14 2016, as soldiers attached to the 144 Battalion Asa, Ukwa West Council area, confiscated unsold and new editions of Biafra newspapers; New Republic, Vesym, Freedom Journal, including copies of Authority newspapers in Aba.

Ever since the incident, Some of the vendors have devised strategies to conceal and sell the pro Biafra newspapers and magazines which are in hot demand in the city. Biafra newspapers sell more than national newspapers in Aba.

A publisher, who declined to be named for fear of reprisal, condemned the action of the military, and denied that pro Biafra newspapers incite hatred among the people, stressing that they only publish Biafra stories as some national dailies do.

“We are publishing only reports about Biafra like other national dailies do. Let the military go and close down all the media houses because they are carrying Biafra stories, after all, we are not the only people publishing stories on Biafra.”

As at the time of filing this report, efforts to get the reaction of the Army Public Relations Officer, 14 Brigade Ohafia, Major Sidney Mbaneme, proved abortive as his mobile number was unavailable.
