As Delta North set to announce candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the state governorship election, leader of the party from South West, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu has waded into the issue.

This is part of the success from the consultations being carried out by the Delta North APC, as a consensus candidate may emerged today.

Tinubu, it was gathered, had advised that Pat Utomi, who is contending with Cairo Ojougboh would make a good minister or economy adviser.

It was gathered that when Delta North leadership visited the cabal at the villa for consultation, an alleged member of the cabal, Farouk Aliyu Adamu had advised Pat Utomi to drop his CV for federal appointment in the presence of Festus Keyamo (SAN) and Pharm Otive.

It was further gathered that Utomi is perceived in the Villa as unfaithful member of APC due to his membership of Olusegun Obasanjo reformation group.

The question villa is asking, it was learnt is that people are asking if Utomi is a member of the party.

A source, who spoke with our correspondent said, "he's perceived in the village as unfaithful member of APC due to his membership of Obasanjo reformation group and the question villa people are asking is he's a member of our party.

"The general filler is that if APC truly wants to win the election, the most likely aspirant is Cairo Ojougboh."

The source, however, said that announcement for the consensus is being awaited today for the agreed candidate for Delta North.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and the Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano reached out to residents of flooded Otuocha on Thursday.

After flying over vast areas submerged by flood, Osinbajo, and Obiano, along with Labour Minister Chris Ngige, used boats to reach those most affected.

Osinbajo assured residents that the Federal Government would provide more relief materials to ease their sufferings, even as he directed for the immediate supply of foodstuff and money to the victims to cushion the effect of the flood situation.

Governor Rochas Okorocha, has lamented the high rate of damages rainfall in Imo State has caused his administration.

The governor who said the rainfall has destroyed almost all the road projects in the state, wondered 'if the rainfall are acidic'.

Okorocha stated this on Monday during the swearing ceremony of Mr. Mark Uchendu, as the new Secretary to the Government of Imo state, 9 permanent secretaries and others by the acting solicitor Ministry of Justice, Chinyere Ibeh who represented Attorney General of Imo State.

Speaking during the ceremony, Okorocha said; "let me tell you the remaining 7 months left for me I will do the same I did in 7 years in office".

"I am sorry for some of you who say that I have destroyed all the roads. It is because of the unprecedented rainfall. I wonder if the rains are acidic. I assure you that we will put them in order.

“I want to assure you that my people empowerment programme will kick off. It will start with the first names that will be submitted by the traditional rulers of our communities. My government is a government of the poor. I have come to save the lives of numerous poor Ndimo.

“We are going to begin to let our people know the projects we had done since the inception of this administration. What I am doing is to lay the foundation for any governor that will come into Imo state.

Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, former Abia State governor, on Tuesday, paid a visit to Nigeria's former military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida in Minna, Niger State.

The visit, according to Kalu was to canvass support for the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The former Governor and his entourage arrived at Babangida’s Uphill residence at 12:08pm in three black Toyota jeeps and two Hillux Vans.

He was ushered into the guest room, where he met his host behind closed door.

In an interview with newsmen after the meeting, which lasted for over two hours, Kalu said he was in Minna to explain to the former leader why Buhari must be supported to finish his second term in office.

“I am in Minna to campaign for President Buhari because I have seen a lot of PDP people trooping in to visit IBB and I felt we should not be left behind.

“I have come to have a heart-to-heart talk with the former President and convince him why he should allow and support President Buhari to finish his second tenure”, he explained.

On the reaction of IBB over his quest, Kalu said; “his reaction was blue and white, we have discussed and he said he is thinking about it. February 16 is still a long way to go and we will continue talking; however, it is a positive reaction.”

Kalu, who insisted that President Buhari deserved a second term said the president represents a new hope for the country, adding that his believe in the ability of the president to lead the country out of the wood informed his decision to be in the forefront of the campaign for his re-election.

“President Buhari is already in half time now, he has played four years and in soccer, you have 90 minutes game, he has played 45 minutes and we are appealing to Nigerians to give him another 45 minutes to play. It would make more sense and would be very nice,” he said.

A 400 level students of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, Abia State - Louis Chigozirim Ihejirika has taken his own life.

The sad news was revealed by a Facebook user, Nwachukwu Stella, in a post tagged; THE MYSTERIOUS DEATH OF LOUIS IHEJIRIKA;

"With a heavy heart we the 400L students of B.agric (SIWES STUDENTS) announces the death of one of us by name Louis chigozirim Ihejirika who died mysteriously by hanging himself, at first we taught it was a joke but on getting to the scene ground I saw my man already dead,the whole doors and windows was locked but with the help of the 3 guys who went with me the almaco was forced open and behold Louis on a ceiling fan hook with white polo and his black jean trouser already dead.

"I know we can’t question God but I strongly believe he should have an answer and reason behind this death,as we embark on a prayer we believe God will reveal everything hidden in the eyes of man that propelled this handsome,brilliant and sound young man to take his own life by Hanging.

Hon Esinwoke Mark, aid to the speaker of Abia State House Of Assembly, Barrister Chikwendu Kalu, has empowered a WOMAN with a bicycle.

The empowerment which took place in Isiala Ngwa South, attracted all the members of Kweremee, a personal political structure of the Hon Speaker, Barr Chikwendu Kalu, who gathered in celebration of it.

Although, the celebration of the gesture did not go down well with some people, as they are of the view that such action should not have been brought to social media in order to achieve a cheap political point.

Mr. Chidinma Ubani, who posted the photo on social media, in his reaction, sarcastically, urged Deputy Speaker, Hon Dr Cosmos Ndukwe, Hon Bar Akpulonu Solomon and all other house of assembly members in Abia State who wishes to do empowerment, Chief Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jnr, "to come and learn what confirm empowerment is about.."

He further opined that such actions are the reason why opposition is growing in the zone (Isiala Ngwa South).

According to him; "Some time ago, Comr Ubani Dannie, built 4 new modern houses for 4 widows in Isiala Ngwa south and till date, nobody has been called for the house opening but somebody bought a bicycle and gathered people to do mockery of the word charity and yet had the guts to snap and post it everywhere for sychophantic cheap political gains".

He concluded by saying that "E Go Go Again (an Abia State PDP political slogan) is not for everyone.

Dr. Orji Kalu, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former governor of Abia has said he is working very hard to ensure the party wins all states in South-East (Igbo land).

Kalu stated this on Friday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Umuahia, the Abia Capital.

The senatorial aspirant for Abia North, said he was determined to bring the Southeast geo-political zone into the mainstream of the nation’s politics.

According to him, “I joined APC because it meets my expectations and that is where all Nigerians of note are sitting.’

I am currently working hard day and night to ensure that APC wins the governorship and National Assembly positions in all the states in the zone.

“My ambition is to make sure that I bring the South-east to sit where other Nigerians are sitting and we must achieve it in 2019.’’

Kalu reiterated his earlier position that APC would have a landslide victory in the zone in 2019.

He said APC would score at least, 75 per cent votes in Abia and 51 per cent in the other states in the zone.

The business mogul who spoke on the recent defections across different party lines by some prominent politicians in the country, stressed that the actions were intended to satisfy personal interest and “not in the interest of the people.’’

“Those politicians that are defecting are doing so for their selfish interest because they felt that they would not get the ticket from their former parties.’’

The commercial city of Aba came alive on Sunday as the remodeled Enyimba stadium Aba re-opened in grand style with a novelty match between Ex-Super Eagles players and Former Enyimba football club Stars.

The 20, 000 capacity edifice was packed full as early as 2pm as Aba football fans who have longed for action at the stadium trooped out in their numbers to watch the game.

Abia state Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, who kicked off the novelty match at the stadium, expressed happiness that the project has been delivered to the delight of Abians.

Former Super Eagles Players, including Samson Siasia, Taribo West, Yisa Sofoluwe, Garba Lawal, Mutiu Adepoju, Austin Eguavon, Daniel Amokachi, Uche Okechukwu, Aloy Agu, among others, lost 0.1 to the former Enyimba players after missing two penalty kicks awarded to them.

The stadium is now ready to host Carra Brazzaville of DR Congo in Enyimba's last group game of the CAF Confederation Cup on Wednesday.

Respected elder statesman and Nigeria’s First Republic Aviation Minister, Chief Mbazulike Amechi, has told the Nigerian government to include Referendum to the constitution and let it be conducted to determine Igbos' fate in Nigeria.

Amechi was reacting following the alleged plot for former Lagos State governor, Bola Tinubu to succeed President Buhari, while the party has been promised to shift power to South-East (Igbo land).

He also noted that the moves to scheme out the Igbo in the 2023 electoral calculations were reminiscent of Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s collaboration with the northern military regime in the aftermath of the aborted implementation of the Aburi Accord between General Yakubu Gowon and the late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu.

“What Saraki said is obvious because those who follow the politics of Nigeria know that it is the game that is going on now. We are not surprised. The Igbo have been neglected and not seen as part of the federation of Nigeria, but as slaves in the country.

“I have read in the papers that the military is going to launch Operation Python Dance 3 in Igbo land alone. If they don’t want the Igbo in Nigeria, let the people of the North and the West say they don’t want the Igbo again in Nigeria and Igbo will go their way. We are not equal partners in the federation and the earlier they conduct a plebiscite the better for us, so that the Igbo can go. And that is where the case of the IPOB is justified.

“We are not begging to remain in Nigeria. Let them allow plebiscite in Igbo land and Igbo will decide whether they will continue to be part of this nonsense or not.

“In my own point of view, which is the general point of view, Buhari should be contented with one tenure. He should not contest in 2019. Somebody from the North should contest for the remaining second tenure to enable the North serve out two tenures. Then after that somebody from Igbo land should contest for the presidency in 2023 and should be supported to become the president. Equity, justice and fairness demand that.

“It was the same thing that Chief Obafemi Awolowo did, he hated the Igbo all his life. He fought the civil war against the Igbo and when the war ended he came up with the idea that every Igbo man should be allowed only 20 pounds no matter what he had in the bank when he was the Minister for Economic Development and a member of the federal executive council.

"The Igbo begged him to reverse the policy to no avail. Not only that, it was Awolowo who advised the Federal Government that starvation was the best instrument of war. So, we are pained to remember that,” he said.

The Emir of Daura HRH. Alhaji Dr. Umar Farouq (CON) will confer a Traditional Chieftaincy title on former Governor of Abia State and eminent Businessman, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu.

This was disclosed in a letter addressed to the former Governor on the 8th of August , 2018 signed by the Emir himself HRH. Alhaji Dr. Umar Farouq (CON).

This is coming few months after the former Governor of Abia State embarked on Peace Tours of the Southwest in April and Northwest in June this year. On the 15th of June he visited Katsina State where he was received by the Emir and also met other community stakeholders.

Dr. Kalu had during the tour met with various traditional rulers , community gatherings and other stakeholders where he preached the need for peaceful coexistence and tolerance for country Nigeria to make progress. He also used the tour to promote the achievements of the Buhari led administration and the need for his re-election in 2019.

Part of the letter read:

"I have the pleasure to write and inform you about the conferment of the Traditional Title of "DAN BAIWAN HAUSA" on you, in appreciation of your unwavering support to our son, President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, Bayajida II. Your achievements in Youth Development is commendable and appreciable apart from your contribution to the development of Abia State and the country ".

In a confirmation telephone chat with the Special Assistant on Media to the former Governor Mr.Kenneth Udeh he said: "Yes, I can confirm that his excellency Dr.Orji Uzor Kalu will be conferred with the traditional title by the Emir of Daura which as you know is where the President comes from. This is a great news not just for him but for all Nigerians."

The campaign posters of the 2019 Young Progressive Party (YPP) presidential aspirant, Dr. Kingsley Moghalu has flooded the streets of Aba, Abia State commercial city.

The posters which was sighted by ABACITYBLOG correspondent is written with an inscription (Oge Erugo) meaning "The Time Is Now".

Moghalu, a former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has made it known that he will be running for the highest political office in Nigeria come 2019 through Young Progressive Party (YPP).

But the posters spotted in Aba has generated a lot of fuzz, as many were doubting the pattern of the Nigeria political system if Moghalu can breakthrough by beating the incumbent president, Muhammadu Buhari.

A trader along Aba Owerri road, reacting to the poster said, "It's a good thing that youths are coming out to contest for the 2019 election, but my fear is they may not be able to beat Buhari... Nigeria political system is not the same as France, Mr. Uche added.

He further told our correspondent that come 2019, he will vote Moghalu, not just because of the party, but because he is a youth.

Under the tutelage of Uchenna Onwuamaegbu-Ugwu the CEO of Edufun Technik STEM, the Golden Girls spent five months researching and developing FD-Detector which swept through over 2000 competing applications to get to the finals in San Francisco.

Technovation is a programme that offers girls around the world the opportunity to learn the programming skills they need to emerge as tech-entrepreneurs and leaders.

Every year, girls are invited to identify a problem in their communities, and then challenge them to solve them by developing Andriod applications that would address those problems.

115 countries participated in the qualifiers but only 12 teams from all over the world were selected as finalists for the pitch in Silicon Valley.

Pa Celestine Egbunuche, dubbed Nigeria’s oldest prisoner, clocked 100 last Saturday; August 4, inside the Enugu Maximum Prison.

Egbunuche, from Akokwa, Imo State, was sentenced to death along with his son, Paul, and another relation, now 87, for engaging in a fight over a piece of land and in the process, somebody died.

The convicts have already spent over 17 years in the prison. However, an NGO, Global Society for Anti-corruption (GSAC), is pushing for the centenarian’s release.

Egbunuche is said to have suffered from diabetes over the years. GSAC has appealed to the FG and Governor Rochas Okorocha to use their board of mercy and release him, his 78 years old relation and son from prison.

Former Senate Minority Leader, Obong Godswill Akpabio, has said his decision to decamp from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All People’s Congress (APC) was in national interest.

This is even as he boasted that his exit will mark the end of the opposition party in the Niger Delta region.

Akpabio, the former Governor of Akwa Ibom, stated this at a grand rally in Ikot Ekpene on Wednesday where he formerly declared for the APC.

He said that the nationalist instinct in him also informed his decision at a time the nation needed peace to grapple with pressing challenges.

“I decided to join the APC at this time because I am a nationalist. In times like this, everybody should support to bring peace to our dear nation; to stop the killings and ensure employment for our teeming youths.

“With my declaration, uncommon change has come to Akwa Ibom. We believe that South-South cannot stand alone on its own.

“We need to collaborate with others. I consulted. What I have done today is to take the people of the South-South to the centre.

“Whatever I do is in the interest of of Akwa Ibom. I want to leave a legacy in the national interest.

He also urged his former party to have what he called a reward system.

The chairman of the Ebonyi State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Abas Egwu, has said there is the need for Hausa and Yoruba Muslims to recognize indigenous Igbo Muslims as equally genuine and committed adherents of Islam despite their small population and, therefore, give them robust support in the area of da’wah.

Egwu stated this in Abakaliki when he received the National Organising Secretary of the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria (ADS), Alhaji Ibrahim Kilani, who visited ADS members in the state.

According to Egwu, it is imperative for the Muslims in other parts of the country to help in the areas of establishment of Arabic and Islamic schools and building of mosques for ease of practice of Islam and the propagation of the religion in the eastern part of the country.

He commended what he called the fairness and impartiality of the state government towards Islam and Muslims, describing Ebonyi as the only state in eastern Nigeria which has a Muslim pilgrims board that is independent of the Christian board.

Alhaji Ibrahim Kilani said he was in the state to meet members of the Abakaliki branch of the ADS to rub minds with them on the fortune of the organisation.

Mr. Adeyanju Deji, an activist has allegedly shared a photo of Nigerian soldier, Obinna Onuoha, who died on Monday.

According to him;

“Onuoha was one of the soldiers shot by Boko Haram at Jilli, he died on Monday due to lack of proper medical care by Nigerian Army.

Deji, added that late Onuha called his “wife on Monday that he might not make it but by the time she (her wife) got to Maiduguri, he had died”.

Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Senator Victor Umeh, at the weekend said he has a book which contains the names of evildoers in South-Eastern Nigeria.

Umeh stated this while in attendance at the declaration rally for Dr. Alex Otti, the former Group Managing Director of Diamond Bank Plc who is running for the governorship of Abia State next year.

Addressing the massive crowd of supporters at the Ngwa High School, Aba who exceeded the expectations of the organisers, Umeh, who is also the Senator representing Anambra Central at the National Assembly, said: “When I look at your faces I feel encouraged. I feel that there is hope for Ndigbo, but one thing that is clear and cannot be denied is that your faces also show your dissatisfaction with the situation in your state. I understand that very clearly and we must put an end to the suffering and gloom in Abia State.

“We’ll rearrange Igbo land. And in trying to do so, we must sack some people with questionable records from our political space. We need men who are trust worthy not those full of deceit. We need someone who knows the sufferings of the people and has all the necessary education and experience.

“We need someone who has come to serve not to steal. My brothers and sisters, Ndigbo is suffering because we keep electing unqualified persons. We must put an end to such trend. Alex Otti is an Officer of the Federal Republic (OFR). He has the education and experience in financial and human management.”

Speaking further, Senator Umeh, who is currently in a verbal war with the Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha, assure that Otti will never be like Okorocha and vowed to produce a book that contains the list of evildoers in the South East during the campaigns and expose them for who they are.

He said; “We suffered to enthrone APGA Imo State. We tried it in Imo and wasted our time in fighting for Rochas Okorocha. He promised to unite the Igbos. We gave him the opportunity to touch his people’s life. We placed him there again to help those in Anambra to win our remaining three states so that when we get to Abuja to talk, people will listen to us.

“But Okorocha jumped into another party. We have seen what he’s doing there and how he has been running the affairs of Imo State and we only pray that God will have mercy and save

Announcing his declaration, Dr. Alex Otti, assured the people that he is out to reclaim the mandate that was given to him in 2015 of which he said was stolen by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“I called you here today to tell you that I am offering myself to reclaim the mandate you gave to me which they stole.

“People claim we didn’t protect our votes in 2015. That’s not exactly the truth. What happened was that the party of thieves called PDP went and manufactured fake results when we resisted them at the polling units. They brought fake results from two LGAs of Obi-Ngwa and Osisioma to the collation centre in Umuahia. They brought 82,000 in Obi-Ngwa and 44,000 in Osisioma. We saw all their plans and resisted them and these results were cancelled then.”

A Facebook user, Ehiarimia Precious, has allegedly called out Mr. Tony Ademodi (aka) T.A, a presenter with Magic FM, Aba for impregnating her and trying to push her away.

In a post shared online last night, Ms. Precious alleged that T.A impregnated her and going around rubbishing her name by giving other girls access to talk bad against her.

The post read; This is just the beginning, I’m not bad person but you push me to the wall… you think you can rubbish me…impregnate me and the best thing you can do for me is to give another girl right to insult me…for good 3 years i have been so patients with you.. and the best way you can pay me back… is by rubbishing me…u are wicked…u go around rubbishing girls…your game just ended.

However, Mr. Tony Ademodi (aka) T.A claimed that his account was hacked and that a girl is trying to frame him up.

According to him, someone by the name Vivian Mmecha is trying to impersonate him.

An Aba based lawyer identified as Barr. Obinna Onuoha has reportedly slumped and died during a court session at High Court I in Obingwa Local Area of Abia State.

Information at the time of filing report was sketchy, but our reporter gathered that Onuoha slumped while cross examining witness to the opposing party.

The incident sources said caused pandemonium in court as people who were at the court scampered for safety when the incident occurred.

It was learnt that Onuoha died due to the impact of the fall in an undisclosed hospital shortly after he was rushed to the hospital for medical attention. But a source close to the family told our reporter that the legal practitioner from a medical report died of cardiac arrest.

A lawyer who pleaded not to be mentioned lamented the death of Onuoha whom his life, he said could have been saved if there was any medical or Para-medical staff to administer first aid treatment on the spot when the incident happened.

“I don’t really know the man too well. But I was told that the man is an Ngwa man. It is a pity that such a thing could happen. It could happen to anyone. Lawyers are human beings after all.

“I suspect that it could be stress or something related to heart attack which could have simply been dealt with if there were any medical personnel or even a Para-medic around to attend to him.

“I believe that we should always check our health status frequently which I am sure that will help to reduce incidence of such because constant checkup and visit to our physicians would help to reveal some of the hidden things in our body system.”

Another lawyer however said that they suspected that the colleague died because of an internal head injury as, the “man was said to have landed, hitting his head on the ground.”

The chairman, Aba branch of Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Bob Ogu in a telephone confirmed the incident and lamented the loss.

Ogu stated that late Onuoha was more than a colleague to him.

A group of Nigerian students at Cambridge University in the UK have held a protest against the recent killings in the central Plateu state.

It was reported that 200 people were killed in three-days of conflict which started last week Thursday.

The students urged President Muhammadu Buhari to "end these killings", saying that he has a duty to protect the lives of all Nigerians.

"These deaths from herdsmen attacks have become one too many; it has become regularised, it has become a culture, and we say no to that," the Cambridge University Nigeria Student Society told BBC.

Reports say fighting began when ethnic Berom farmers attacked Fulani herders, killing five of them.

A retaliatory attack on Saturday led to more deaths in a conflict that also divide people along political and religious lines.

The university students said that after they finished their studies they would like to go back to Nigeria to contribute to the country's development.

But they warned: "We have no desire to go back to a country whose street is running in blood."

The Acting Chief Judge of Abia State, Justice Onuoha Ogwe has challenged women to fiercely fight men who try to rape them even if it means pulling out their manhood.

Justice Ogwe who advocated life imprisonment for rapists and men who defile under-aged girls, urged the state House of Assembly to enact such law, assuring that the judiciary would implement such law so as to restore sanity to the society. He also noted that such harsh punishment is the only way to stop the rising incidence of the social evils.

The Acting Chief Judge spoke in his office in Umuahia yesterday when a coalition of Abia women led by the wife of the governor, Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu were on an advocacy visit to him as part of their campaign against abuse of women, molestation and abuse of women’s rights.

Addressing the Chief Judge, Mrs. Ikpeazu whose Foundation, Vicar Hope is championing the campaign, said they were pushing for “more concrete action to protect the rights of the women and the girl-child.

“We particularly request that you look out for cases that are related to human trafficking, ‘baby factories’, obnoxious widowhood practices and give it greater attention. We believe that if justice is done speedily and efficiently, it will serve as deterrence to others who may be thinking of perpetrating similar crimes.

“My lord, another very specific request we make of you is to ask that you create more family courts in the judicial divisions that will handle civil matters in such a way as to achieve justice for aggrieved family members,” Mrs. Ikpeazu said.

Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, former minister of finance has reacted over the incessant killings in Nigeria by the Fulani Herdsmen.

The two time finance minister was reacting following the recent killings by the herdsmen which occurred in Plateau State on Sunday, 24th June, 2018.

The attack which claimed the lives of over 100 people has been condemned by well meaning Nigerians.

However, reacting in a twitter post, the Board member of African Risk Capacity, ARC, called on Nigerians to cry out over the barbaric killings perpetrated by the Fulani herdsmen.

She said; "Devastating to see the killings of innocent men, women and children in various parts of the country. We must cry out! Every Nigerian life matters. How can we protect and value every life in the country?
