PoliticsNnamdi Kanu: Why I Will Not Support Or Contest Any Election In Nigeria by meethumb(op): 9:14am On Feb 14, 2019
Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has said he will not contest or support any politician in Nigeria as long as the political system remained the same.

Kanu, who feared that what happened to the late Biafran warlord, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu might also happen to him.

ABACITYBLOG recalled that Ojukwu failed while contesting for Presidential position in Nigeria in 2003 under the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA. This, according to Kanu, was a planned trick to ruin the struggle for Biafra restoration.

Speaking recently in an exclusive interview with BBC Igbo, Kanu said, people have accosted him several times to contest for a political post in Nigeria, with the facts that he controls millions of followers in the Old Eastern region of Nigeria.

But Kanu said he turned them down because it's a bait, "they are only trying to ridicule me just as they did to Ojukwu".

"Ojukwu failed in Anambra, Kanu told BBC., "If Ojukwu could fail in Anambra, who are mine to be compared to Ojukwu. If he (Biafra warlord) could fail in an election, how sure are you that I would even win an election in Nigeria.

"I looked deep into what they did then and I said no! The way they did it then, cannot be the same way it will be done now.

"All they want to do is to make jest of our struggle. I'm a learned man and I know all their tricks. All I'm asking for, is for them to do the right thing.

"Even If I want to support any election in Nigeria, I can't come out in public and tell people who they would vote for, I will only tell them to vote for the right candidate who have the people in mind and who will be ready to work for the people.

"I don't want to be seen an Ahmed Bola Tinubu of Igboland", Kanu concluded.

PoliticsOshiomhole Is Unreliable, That's Why I Call Him 'oshi And Ole' - Okorocha by meethumb(op): 9:05pm On Feb 05, 2019
Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha, has regretted his support for Adams Oshiomhole to emerge the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Okorocha, who doubles as the Imo West APC senatorial candidate bared his mind yesterday at the Orlu Township Stadium, while flagging off his campaign.

Speaking about the APC national chairman, whom he christened “Oshi and Ole”, Okorocha said the latter has shown unreliable character.

“My finishing governor as is not a full-stop. It is a comma because after every comma, a sentence will follow. Those who are afraid of me politically have ganged up to fight me, including the person I supported to become the national chairman. That is why they brought Hope Uzodinma. He is not running for any election, but was only recruited to fight me in my Orlu zone.

“I am also running for the Senate election to attract a lot of things for Orlu people. You have seen what I have done as a governor. When I go to the Senate, there will be a massive difference. Nzeribe, Izunaso and Uzodinma had wasted the position for years, as there is no project they can boast of in Orlu zone. They were only interested in their pockets,”

“Please, ask Osita Izunaso what he has been able to attract to Orlu zone for the four years he spent in the House of Representatives and four years he spent as a senator, not even a bungalow was attracted to Orlu zone. So, he should go and sit down.

“I am very grateful to you all. I have never seen in my life a senatorial rally taking the shape of a national rally. The crowd here is intimidating and has humbled me. What I understand is that you are saying to me Rochas carry go; you are saying to me, go to Abuja.”

Meanwhile, Senator Osita Izunaso, is the Imo West All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), senatorial candidate.

PoliticsVIDEO: Ohanaeze President General Reveals The Only Way To Get Biafra by meethumb(op): 9:03pm On Jan 31, 2019
Following the agitation for Biafra referendum, championed by the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief John Nnia Nwodo Jnr, has revealed the only way Biafra can be achieved.

Nwodo, was reacting over an order by the IPOB leader, which he (Kanu) directed his followers to boycott the 2019 election.

Recall that Mazi Kanu, during a live radio broadcast ordered his followers (IPOB members) to boycott the 2019 general election; according to him, "boycotting the election will be like a total referendum".

Reacting to Kanu's order, Nwodo, in a video by BBC Igbo, said Kanu's move and tactics was wrong.

"Those that have no clue about Biafra, said they want a referendum, where did it happened? How can we get this country working should be the question we should ask ourselves.

"How else can we change Nigeria, let the Igbo people get what they deserve and have a sense of belonging in Nigeria? Should we go to war?

"Talking about the referendum, even if United Nations talks about it, it will not hold unless the Nigerian National Assembly agrees with the United Nations, accept the law, amend it and implement it, then there will be a referendum.

Nwodo who frowned at the spate of clash with the IPOB members and the army, said; "standing on the road, clashing with the army/police, is not the best way, rather, knowledge is the best way to get Biafra, Nwodo said.

PoliticsI Am Pained By Your Situation, Atiku Tells Igbo Business Community In Aba by meethumb(op): 9:11am On Dec 20, 2018
The PDP presidential candidate at the 2019 general elections, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, was in Aba, the business hub of Abia State and the entire southeast, to hold a Town Hall Meeting with the business community of Igbo extraction.

Atiku who arrived the Enyimba city with his running mate, Mr Peter Obi, the national chairman of PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, former governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel et al, was received by the executive governor of Abia State, Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu.

In his welcome speech at Town Hall which was filled to capacity, Governor Ikpeazu described Atiku as one man who has the needed experience to positively impact on businesses in Nigeria since he has been a businessman himself for many years.

He further said that he trusts Atiku's presidency will also help to revitalise the numerous moribund industries in Abia State.

Responding to the concerns raised by the business community soon after, Atiku expressed great joy at the governor’s untiring efforts in the promotion of “Made in Aba” goods some of which he inspected before the Town Hall Meeting commenced, saying he looked forward to his presidency partnering with the governor in further promoting SMEs not only in Aba but also in the entire country. He praised the Igbos for being pacesetters when it comes to business anywhere in Nigeria whether in Port Harcourt, the north, the southwest and the southeast. He hailed their resilience for continuing despite the harsh environment they operate in, promising to do everything within the law to address their concerns and challenges as they affect the Igbo business community.

On the congestion of Lagos ports that the business community said hinders their businesses greatly, the former vice president lamented the fact that “Nobody in APC understands the workings of the ports so how will they be able to solve the challenges there? You have no business voting for this (APC) government. With my experience, I will make the ports functional including the ones in the eastern part of the country as this will make businesses grow, create jobs and make the people prosper”.

Earlier, the PDP vice presidential candidate, Peter Obi, had extolled the virtues of the Abia State governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, saying that he was the kind of visionary leader Atiku would like to associate with for establishing the Enyimba Economic City which will create jobs. He told the crowd who cheered him on as he spoke that Atiku has shown his genuine concern for their interest by being the first candidate to come to the Igbo business community specially to ask them what their challenges are and what he can do to solve them if elected president.

On his part, Prince Uche Secondus described Atiku as a highly detrabilised Nigerian who has travelled far and wide and is the most prepared person to rescue Nigeria.

Those who also spoke at the event included Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, Rtn Andy Ubah, Mrs Ify Okolue, Chief Frank Jacons, Chief Ajaegbu among others.

One of the highlights of the event was the commissioning of MCC Road, a road of strategic importance to all Abians especially the business community, by Former Deputy Speaker of the house of Representative and PDP gubernatorial candidate in Imo State, Chief Emeka Ihedioha.

PoliticsA Sad Tale Of A Super Copper by meethumb(op): 9:58am On Dec 13, 2018
By Ojioforgana Ifeanyi Eri

For those of us that had the opportunity of serving our fatherland for one year, we were privy to the taste of a different world all together. I could still hear the danming military Bugle aborting our sweet sleep in the early hours of the morning. It was usually presaged by torchlight and commanding voices from soldiers urging us to go to the assembly ground.

I still remember the ceaseless drills that made me believe that everything about soldiers has to do with parades. They were never tired of it! For us that have no military friends or relatives, it was impressive to realize how humane, funny and normal these warriors can be especially in this part of the world where they are like gods. I am smiling now as I regurgitate the words and actions of our RSM at Awgu NYSC camp. He is the funniest man I have ever come across!

After the 3 weeks camping, we were posted to our various Places of Primary Assignments(PPA). In these places, we were introduced to Community Development Service(CDS), which is a none compulsory platform that Corpers (as we were fondly called) could extend hands of fellowship to their Host Communities.

Charity works like Boreholes, safety road signs, equipping secondary school laboratories and libraries, campaign against disease outbreaks, and so on were usual. Corpers were advised to undertake in small projects due to limited time and resourses.

It could be recalled that in 2015, President Goodluck Jonathan awarded about 100 outstanding Corps members with a scholarship to pursue post graduate degrees abroad. What Mr. President didn't know was that among all the awardees, the most worthy of them all was left behind at Cottage Hospital Iji-Nike in Enugu East local government area in Enugu state due to late completion of the daring project.

Around July, 2014, I had gone to see a friend's wife that had a baby at the hospital when I saw a very pretty girl serving concrete to Masons in a building site therein. Concerned, I was compelled to find out about her. Could it be her way of offsetting some hospital Bills? I was rather amazed when Miss Agunwa Juliet narrated her story.

Hear her: "I am a medical lab scientist posted here alongside 6 others by the National Youths Service Board. On getting here, we had no apartments available, so we suffered in various degrees before getting good footing. I am from Nachi in Udi Local Government here in Enugu state, so I operated from my village for over one month.

It was a more harrowing experience for many that are from remote parts of the country. It's no longer news how especially girls have encountered all sorts of evil in the past due to lack of accommodation.

Some have even been sexually harassed. This hospital equally needs medical personnel around to attend to emergencies, so that's why I took it upon myself to build a house for upcoming corpers. Both friends and family initially discouraged me due to the huge sum of money involved. NYSC urges me to complete it on time so I may benefit from the federal award but this project is big and people I hoped would assist me have all stood aloof.

However, I have remained undaunted since I don't do it just for the awards. I mean, award is good but what I am doing here is fundamentally humanitarian. I am equally from this state(she beamed a childlike smile), so let me do this one good thing."

On how she got her funding, she cheerfully said "First, I approached the Igwe of Nike(my host community) HRH Igwe Dr. Julius Nnaji. He gave me his blessings and some financial support, and has kept on assisting till date.

When all the politicians in this Senatorial zone refused to assist me, I ran to churches, corporate establishments, and some kind hearted individuals like Mr. & Mrs Jerry Ugwu and Mr. & Mrs. JC Ugwu. Building Materials Market(Timber Shed) in Trans-Ekulu also supported with some materials. I spend my monthly allowances here, and I also serve concrete and do all sorts of work here when I lack money to pay my workers as you can see."

When I asked her about challenges she encountered on the course of fund raising, she beamed her usual faultless smile and replied, "You know how animalistic some people can be. Can you imagine a man keeping 100, 000 naira on his office table, asking you to give yourself and have the money? It was so disgusting!"

I was personally moved how rare and compassionate this girl was. She could have diverted all the generated funds to her personal needs. She could have joined other of her colleagues that saw this time as a makeup for all the "lost" years in their parents' cage.

Rather, she gave all her time and money to this godly course. I supported her with 10 bags of cement and urged her to continue the good work. The project was finished months after she had passed out. The commissioners of Health, Youths & Sports and NYSC officials commissioned the elegant 6 roomed Bungalow with modern toilets and bathrooms. They promised to inform the state governor, Mr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of her rare gift to the state.

My heart bled when in November, 2018, I stumbled on Juliet at Shoprite Onitsha. I was excited to hear news from her NYSC project but she rather broke my heart. She said that she had still not gotten any job, and that all her calls and text messages to Mr. Ugwuanyi have been ignored. The only one day the call was picked bathed her with abuses by the governor's aid, asking if she knew she was disturbing the state governor.

It could be recalled that during Big Brother Naija, some state governors exhibited what I describe as mating an already pregnant elephant by pouring more millions of naira on the runners up and winners of a whopping sum of 25 million naira.

I am not against supporting entertainment(even as such a platform has met a wide range of criticisms bodering on its profane nature); I am only saying that people like Juliet deserve more honours.

Best graduating students in our federal and state universities deserve better awards than those so called entertainers. Secondary and Primary school students should be encouraged through inter school quizzes.

Why it is so sad is that this girl spent more than 4.5 million naira on that project; an amount that could have helped her further her studies in any part of the world. Even as she did not get the federal government Award, it would have just been fair if her own state offered her a good job in appreciation.

It is worrisome since Enugu State governor, Mr. Ugwuanyi, unlike his predecessors, is loved by all his subjects due to his kindness. Why then is it difficult for him to honour this rare heroine? Even if he lacks funds for a big recognition, a handshake will go a long way to make her feel appreciated. It will also encourage other intending patriots.

Anybody that knows Mr. Ugwuanyi should please plead with his usual compassion. Philanthropists like Prince Arthur Eze, Chief Emeka Offor, DSP Ike Ekweremmadu among others that are known for their kindness should please help appreciate this good Nigerian.

PoliticsEXPOSED: How Peter Obi Funded The Foiled Impeachment Of Anambra State Speaker by meethumb(op): 6:30am On Nov 14, 2018
Reports have emerged about the series of meetings and lobbying that took place at the Onitsha GRA residence of Mr Peter Obi, the VeePee candidate of the PDP in the 2019 general elections, for the immediate impeachment of the Anambra State House of Assembly Speaker. And subsequently, Governor Wille Obiano.

It was gathered by close sources that the PDP, through former Governor Peter Obi, has concluded plans to turple the smooth flow of governance in the State.

According to sources, this move is coming on the suspicion that Governor Willie Obiano will work for the All Progressives Congress Presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, in the 2019 election.

The meeting which took place at the instance of Mr Peter Obi, targeted 15 of the incumbent State Assembly members who were unable to secure the Reelection ticket of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the just concluded primaries.

These legislators led by the Son of a former Commissioner in Peter Obi's administration, Hon Ikem Uzozie were said to have received 10million Naira each from Mr Peter Obi. The first trench of 10million was for the mobilization to impeach Rt Hon Rita Maduagwu, who is considered to be strongly in support of Governor Obiano.

The next phase of the impeachment charade was to be targeted at Governor Obiano if they had succeeded in removing Madam Speaker yesterday.

Eyewitness reports confirmed that the 15 lawmakers headed immediately to the Onitsha residence of Mr Peter Obi after their impeachment ploy was botched by members of the house loyal to the Speaker.

Further reports have it that funds have been voted by the PDP VeePee and other opposition elements to cause serious unrest in the legislative arm that will supposedly trickle down to other critical areas of the State.

According to an anonymous source, the PDP is doing this to create an inroad to Anambra where it is currently expected that Mr Peter Obi may fail in 2019 if these upsets are not put in place.

HealthSAD! 5 Months Old Baby, Mother, Others Stranded At Aba General Hospital Over Bil by meethumb(op): 9:55am On Oct 02, 2018
Below is the sad story of patients who are stranded at the Aba General Hospital, although, they have been treated and discharged, but they are yet to pay off their hospital bills.

According to reports, the patients who narrated their ordeals are pleading with well meaning Nigerians to come to their aid as they have no one to turn to.

When newsmen approached the patients, each of them has one peculiar story to tell, but their conditions are similar. Their bills differ, the illness that brought them to the hospital differs as well, but they are in the same boat. One thing, money has suddenly turned them to friends as they are often seen close to each other watching and waiting for the messiah that is yet to come.

One of the patients, Mrs. Chizoba Joseph - mother to the 5 month old Emmanuel Joseph,  who hails from Orlu in Imo State, but married at Isiagu in Ebonyi state narrated her ordeals, she said, “God will bless the hospital management for their kindness so far. I came here on 11th of September. My son suddenly developed swollen body.

“I brought him here for treatment and the Doctors here did marvelously well even when we didn’t have anything to offer. He is well now, but I cannot afford the bill given to me that is why I am staying here morning and night begging God to remember me and my child.

“Our bill is 44,000 naira and we cannot afford it. My husband is alive. He is a welder and since then, he has been struggling and trying his best to raise the money. We heard workers are on strike, but I am begging for mercy. We have not eaten anything since morning,” she said.

Another patients, Mrs. Amaka Ukaegbu had a different story to tell. She is a 29 years old woman from Ohaozara in Ebonyi and is married to her husband who is from Umuahia, the Abia State Capital.

Narrating her story Amaka said, “I came here on the 1st of August but was operated upon for child delivery on the 2nd of August. My child died and this is my first pregnancy. My husband is a Corp Member and he is on his compulsory one year National Youth Service in Enugu State.

“Before my husband left Youth Service, he dropped 20,000 naira to take care of myself after delivery. When the issue of child delivery started, I went to some midwives and they gave me hot injection which practically caused me swollen legs. I was brought here under emergency, but after treatment, there was no more money to settle the bills.

“We only made small payment of 40,000. The country is too hard and my husband said they have not even paid them there where he is serving. I learnt they are usually paid 19,000 naira, but I have not seen any money since. I survived the pains by the grace of God after the death of my child.

“I don’t blame my husband because he loves me and if he had money he would have paid for it. I am begging government and anybody who has enough to please remember people like me. I am not an animal, I am human like every other person, but sickness and unfortunate situation has turned me to a leaving corpse. I beg people not to cast me away. I am a creature of God, but circumstances have made me a debased person.”

Another stranded patient, Gift Monday, a 16 years old SS3 boy from Akwa Ibom State said, “I stay here in Aba with my aunty. I was brought here with the case of ruptured Appendices. I was told we were charged 250,000 naira. My aunty said she has paid half of it, but remaining half. I just beg people of goodwill to come to my aid.

The story of Mrs. Mercy John is another pathetic one. Narrating here own story,29 years old Mercy John said she is fade up with life and doesn’t know what to do with her life anymore.

She said, “I am from Akpaa in Obingwa here in Abia State, but I was married in Ebonyi State. I was brought here to be delivered of a baby through operation. They did their best, but my baby actually died. I have been here since 2nd August. I was told my bill is 233,350 naira and we have paid close to half. My husband does handwork, but specializes more in fixing Almaco glass.”

Meanwhile, reacting to the above narrations, when contacted, Dr. Uko Samuel, Head Clinical Services General Hospital Aba, he said the hospital is well known for rendering services to Aba people first before asking for payment, which has been a problem as many patients who have been treated in the past go home without paying anything.

TravelAba To Port Harcourt; A Journey Of 45minutes Now 4hrs As Motorist Hike Price by meethumb(op): 8:36am On Sep 22, 2018
The state of Aba to Port Harcourt expressway is typically what is defined as "Death Trap", or can be described as a Nightmare to travellers plying the road on a daily basis.

From Aba to Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, is a journey of 45 minutes and on a normal day, motorist charge the sum of 300-500 depending on someones destination as Transport fare - But of recent, reverse is the case as motorist charges passengers the sum of N1000-N1500 per each person.

The road has been in a deplorable state over the years, starting from the past administration of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, to the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Although, the APC led federal government have claimed to have started work on the said road from Enugu, but the work as one may see is at the speed of snail.

Coming to Aba or going to Port Harcourt, one has to get up early in other to get to his/her destination on time.

The situation has caused a lot of business stagnation as many buyers and traders, especially those coming to Ariaria International Market, Aba - has decided to boycott the road, but is there any alternative route?

That is the question travellers have been asking. Do you think the federal government has forgotten the road really exist?

ABACITYBLOG recall that the expressway is a long road that link directly to the Northern part of the country, but why would the road be abandoned?

Motorist, both trailers conveying containers coming from Onne wharf also ply the road, on a daily basis, trailers fell on the road, goods worth billions of naira are being wasted.

This is a wake-up call, it's time the federal government should urgently intervene.
