Politics / Revealed: How TY Danjuma Attempted To Use Military For Ethnic Cleansing by meethumb: 9:18pm On Mar 26, 2018
It appears that erstwhile Defence minister, Gen. Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma (retd.), who yesterday accused the armed forces of colluding with bandits killing Nigerians, is living in a glass house yet chose to throw stones daming the repercautions. This is in view of allegations that he "leads the militia wreaking killings in Mabilla Plateau and provides cover for them in such atrocious activities".

Speaking on Saturday at the maiden convocation of the Taraba State University in Jalingo, the state capital, Danjuma, a former chief of army staff, said, “The armed forces are not neutral. They collude with the armed bandits to kill people, kill Nigerians.”

The Nigerian Army, in its reaction, described the above statement as most unfortunate, noting that the elder statesman went as far as calling on the people of Taraba state to take up arms and defend themselves. It pointed out that a gallant non-commission officer of the Nigerian Army was beheaded on March 16, 2018 in Takum, Taraba state by criminal elements.

This reaction was contained in a statement issued by the Army spokesman, Texas Chukwu, who pointed out that "the Taraba State Government, did not cooperate with the Nigerian Army due to the Army’s stance to remain absolutely neutral in the herdsmen-farmers crisis. The Nigerian Army will continue to remain as such."

The highly-influential Danjuma is believed to be the godfather of Taraba politics and has the ears of the state government. As Defence minister, he was alleged to have compromised troops to massacre innocent women and children at Zaki Biam, Benue state in 2001.

He has a history of brutality in his heydays as a military officer. As Rudolf Okonkwo wrote, "Captain Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma came into prominence when he led a group of soldiers to abduct the former head of state, Gen. Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi and his host, the military governor of Western region, Lieutenant Colonel Adekunle Fajuyi, from government house Ibadan on the night of July 29, 1966.

"Under Danjuma’s orders, Gen. Aguiyi-Ironsi was spat on, slapped, kicked and punched. With Ironsi’s hands tied behind his back with telephone cord, Danjuma’s soldiers crushed his testicles with their military boots. Ironsi was then dragged on the ground from a moving military Range Rover, skin torn by gravels on the road, blood oozed from his mouth, face swelled, bones cracked and body parts dismembered. And finally he was shot several times and his bullet-ridden, mangled body was dumped in a forest near Iwo road. And so saw his host, Fajuyi."

It is ironic that it is man with this kind of history is now claiming moral high ground to accuse troops on Exercise AYEM AKPATUMA of conniving with marauders to kill innocent Nigerians.

A community leader in Taraba state, who did not want his name in print, told TheNigerian, "I didn't trust TY Danjuma. I cannot trust him now. He is an enemy.

"TY Danjuma, a Jukun man, as Minister of Defence coordinated the operation that led to what is Zaki-Biam massacre. He ill-informed President Obasanjo about the true situation.

"Yes, there was crisis in Taraba State between the farming Tiv communities and the Jukuns...and that wasn't the first time but the Nigerian Military had never been directly involved in communal dispute at that magnitude. Never!

"At about the same time, there was, again, a communal dispute between the Tiv people of Moon District in Kwande LGA and Jukuns of Kashimbilah, Takun LGA. Danjuma fueled the crisis by drafting a military detachment to Kashimbilah, a very insignificant border town in Taraba. They came with armoured tanks and all sorts of weapons. The detachment remains to this minute...and the Jukuns had severally used them against us. The military detachment there is now in the hands of fulanis.

"When we (The people of Moon District) petitioned the Federal Government through the Presidential Panel on Right Abuses by the Nigerian Military which recently ended their findings, TY Danjuma's name was mentioned. We presented undisputable facts including the picture of the sub-machine gun our people recovered and handed over to the DPO at Adikpo. The army representatives at the hearing couldn't deny the facts.

"TY Danjuma is directly responsible for the sacking of the Tiv communities in Taraba and parts of Benue. He is an enemy."

“The plan to set this academy has been part of my plans, but I have been waiting for the right time, and I think this is the right time. My twin brother Emeka Uche and our friend, Emeka Ifejiagwa, who also played for the Super Eagles are in this together.

“I started my football career with a local club in the Aba called Aba Greater Tomorrow, in the early 80s, it was from that the I moved to a Division 3 club called Falcon FC in Aba, from there I went to Flash Flamingos of Benin, to Iwuanyanwu Nationale of Owerri, before going to Brøndby in Denmark, from where I went to Fenerbahçe in Turkey, where I spent greater part of my football life.

“So when we concluded plans to start up this academy, we decided to revive the name of the club that the three of us started in Aba, that is Aba Greater Tomorrow, but we decided to called it Abia Greater Tomorrow Football Academy. We want to start our academy where we started our football career. We want to give back to same locality that gave us the opportunity to become what we are today.

“We have made necessary contact both here in Nigeria and outside to get necessary partners for the academy. As soon as we are done with the finishing lines, the game will begin.

Politics / Ikedife Speaks On The Kind Of Restructuring That Will End Biafra Agitation by meethumb: 8:16am On Feb 18, 2018
Convener of the South East Elders Forum, Dr Dozie Ikedife, has revealed the kind of restructuring Nigerians need that will end the various calls on self determination.

Ikedife, in an interview with The Sun, said to restructure Nigeria, the people must understand what is called 'true federalism'

He said; "I listened to a Muslim who said that they believe in restructuring, but he stressed that given that Sunday is a day of worship for the Christians and a work-free day, he contended that Friday, the Muslim day of worship, should also be work-free day. If that is the type of restructuring, then I think it is a joke.

"Second point is that if the ruling party, APC agrees to restructuring, it should not be done by the party alone because if the party is conservative, the restructuring will become conservative. If the party is progressive, the restructuring they will foster will tilt towards progressive ideas. If it is socialist inclined, then the restructuring will talk about socialist inclination.

"If they are going to do restructuring, it should be by all comers. It may not just be by only the National Assembly, but we can have committees made up of all contending people to discuss issues involved. And people can prepare position papers and submit to the committees. It should be across party, it should be all-embracing.

"The restructuring may even better be described as drafting a new constitution in which case, we should have a constitution drafting committee made up of experts and whatever they recommend or whatever they suggest will be subjected to ratification by the generality of the population. That is how the thing should be done.

Speaking on how restructuring can end the call for self-determination championed by the members of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Ikedife said;

"There are people asking for referendum but they are asking for it for a different purpose, for self-determination. I don’t think the two things should be mixed up.

"I strongly feel and believe that if there is more visible equity and fairness in the distribution of amenities and patronages, the cry for self-determination will be less.

"This is an opportunity for Nigeria to mend the cracks on its walls before the building collapses by doing proper and meaningful restructuring.

"If they mean to do the restructuring, it must not be a never, never ending exercise. If there is seriousness and honesty in the exercise, there must be a time frame within which the restructuring will finish and be implemented either by presidential fiat, parliamentary enactment or whatever, it should not go beyond 2019.

"Preferably it should be done before the next general election because there are people who are saying no restructuring, no 2019 election. And they are saying it and it is catching up as a song.

"I don’t know whether it is possible but that is just to show that there is need to do it urgently. If it misses before the 2019 election, let it be done soon after but not to be like tomorrow that never finishes.

Politics / Zuma's Statue: Fear Grips Okorocha As He Orders Security Men To Guide Ojukwu Cen by meethumb: 7:37am On Feb 16, 2018
Following the harsh comments trailing the statue erected by the Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha in Owerri in honour of the ex-South African President, Jacob Zuma.

Nigerians and Imo Indigenes have expressed divergent views on what should become of the giant bronze statue, as he (Zuma) on Wednesday, resigned as the country’s president after pressure from his African National Congress (ANC) ruling party over allegations of corruption.

Recall that the unveiling of the humongous statue in October last year happened just as South Africa’s Supreme Court ruled that Zuma should face corruption charges.

In addition to the statue, Zuma was given a chieftaincy title and had a road named after him.

Okorocha also conferred on him the Grand Chancellor of the Order of Imo, the highest merit award of the state given to distinguished people.

Reacting over Zuma's resignation as South African president, The national chairman of the United Progressives Party (UPP), Chekwas Okorie, said erecting of a statue in Imo State in honour of Zuma by Okorocha was an embarrassment to the state and the entire country

He urged the people of the state to reject the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2019.

He said: “I don’t have much interest in the statues that Okorocha erects, but I can tell you that his actions have become an embarrassment, not only to the people of the state, but the entire Igbo nation and the country.

“I am sure that Nigerians, not only Imo people, cannot wait to see the back of Okorocha and it wouldn’t be him that would bring down those embarrassing statues.

“The new government that would come after him would definitely bring down the statues because those things are temporary distractions.

“Rochas has negatively impacted on APC, that no matter who becomes the APC governorship candidate, the people of the state should not allow the person to win.

“Honestly, I admire the ANC and I envy the South African people because they had the unity of purpose.

“The opposition in South Africa has been vindicated because they have been saying the same thing up to the point that the ruling party had to redeem itself.

“I wish our democracy and civilisation has developed to that level, but it has not. Nigeria is not civilised. We are not too far away from primitivism,” Okorie stated.

Also reacting, Reverend Farther George Nwachukwu, Director of Social Communication of the Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri, said Zuma ought not to have been considered for any honour in the state because he was not known to have contributed anything to the state, neither was he an exemplary leader.

He said: “Zuma’s statute is not supposed to be erected in Imo State because he is not known to have done anything for the state and her people.

“He is the personal friend of Okorocha and even his visit to the state was a personal one and brought nothing to the state.

“To make matters worst he was given the highest merit award by the state and his statute erected in the Imo Hall of Fame.

“Now that he has been sacked for plethora of corruption charges the best thing to do is for the governor to immediately remove that statue, which in the first place should not have been erected for any reason whatever.

“If that statue is left to stand it means that Imo people condones corruption, because by the erection of that statue the state was made an international laughing stock.”

Meanwhile; Okechukwu Nwanguma, National Coordinator, Network on Police Reforms in Nigeria (NOPRIN) Foundation said: “That Zuma statue which Okorocha moulded just like many others, was just one of the pretexts to divert public funds.

“Asking him to dismantle Zuma’s statue would be a waste of time because in the first place, he didn’t mean it as an honour.”

Dr. Vitalis Ajumbe who was Commissioner for Information under Okorocha, said the statue should be immediately demolished and the fund used in erecting it be refunded to the coffers of the state government as it was a shame.

He said for the governor to have erected the statue exposed the people of the state to international ridicule.

“My take is that the Zuma statue be demolished. The people of the state should insist that the fund, which the governor expended in erecting that statue be refunded to the state coffers.

“It was a shame in the first instance to even think of moulding a statue for a man whose people have rejected for corrupt practices.

“That is the worst thing that has happened to the state, and as long as that statue is still standing Imo people will continue to be associated with the stigma of Zuma,” said Dr. Ajumbe.

However, Following the angst by the people over what they considered a gratuitous insult, government deployed operatives of the Nigerian Civil Defence and Security Corps (NCDSC) and members of the Imo Security Network to guard the entrance to the premises of the Ojukwu Centre where the Imo Hall of Fame is located, apparently to ensure that the statues especially that of Zuma was not pulled down.

Politics / Orji Kalu: Obasanjo Should Be In Jail By Now, He Looted Nigeria Dry by meethumb: 8:52am On Feb 11, 2018
Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, the former governor of Abia State has lambasted former President Olusegun Obasanjo over his letter to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Kalu, an All Progressives Congress(APC) chieftain was reacting to Obasanjo’s recent statement, where he advised Buhari to shelve his 2019 second term ambition.

Speaking in an interview Kalu said; "Former President Obasanjo is used to writing letters. He is the only angel on earth. When he was president, nobody was criticizing him. If you criticize him you become his enemy. This man does not own this country! His brought corrupting into politics.

"I was a governor under him. I had written him a letter and he has not replied. As governor, I wrote him and said that the corruption that he was talking about is under his table. He has not replied that letter till today.

"He knows that the international security agencies know that he has stolen a lot of money and channeled to some banks and industries. It is an open secret. If he doesn’t know, I know. So, all these his self righteousness should stop.

"Honestly, former President Obasanjo is supposed to be in jail; he is not supposed to be moving around. Jonathan was supposed to put this man in jail; he was lucky because we had already agreed with Yar’adua that he is supposed to be in jail. He spent $16 billion on electricity.

"A man who came into office with only N20,000, go to Otta and see how his farm has been upgraded. Go to Abeaokuta and see his mansions. Where did he get the money from? He sponsored his failed third term but he denied doing so. Should Nigerians continue to trust a man like that!?

"I am surprised that people still greet Obasanjo and open their houses for him to enter! That is the truth! I am very, very surprised! His letter to Buhari is just sheer arrogance. I still insist that he has no moral right whatsoever to have written that letter.

Speaking further, Kalu recalled how he loaned the People Democratic Party, PDP, the money it used in building up the party during Obasanjo's reign, but the former President asked the party not to pay him back.

He said;

"I loaned N500 million to PDP and President Obasanjo said that they should not give me back. Chairman Barnabas Gemade said I should be paid and he quarreled with Gemade, a very honest and gentle man. My quarrel with Obasanjo is not about that loan that he asked the party not to pay me. My quarrel is that he wasn’t doing what the constitution says he should do. After all, he christened me Action Governor of Nigeria in Aba when he came to commission projects.

"So, my quarrel with him is his greed and self righteousness. The only righteous person in Nigeria is OBJ. How do you think a man like that can be useful to this country? He misused an opportunity given to him by God.

"God gave him the opportunity to be an elected president in 1999 and he used that opportunity to acquire so much wealth for himself and left the country that he was asked to take care off.

"He sold almost all government properties to himself and his cronies by way of privatisation. And he thinks people don’t know?

"President Buhari should investigate the activities of Obasanjo to know where we stand.

Politics / Chief Charles Okereke, Composer Of Biafran Anthem Declares For Abia Governorship by meethumb: 11:49am On Feb 02, 2018
Chief Charles O. Okereke, A popular publisher and composer of Biafran Anthem, has declared his intention to run for governor of Abia in the forthcoming 2019 elections under United Progressive Party (UPP).

Chief Okereke who is one of the pioneers of Internet/Information Technology not only in Nigeria but in Africa as a whole with publications such as Nigeria Masterweb and Africa Masterweb, in a press statement made available to Newsmen in Umuahia, decried that Abia, God’s own State, has become a major scapegoat to bad governance, bad choice of leaders and, above all, an atmosphere of nonchalance and passive carelessness from us towards our political future.

“Take for instance, the Golden Guinea Breweries, Ulonna Farm Settlement and several other industries which Abia State was formally famed for: they have all gone moribund through several regimes of government. Different governments have ruled the State but the seeming inherent unwillingness in the hearts of hitherto elected leaders has maintained a policy of absolute neglect. Worst, few places of note, like the Ariaria market and the expressway, are gradually becoming dump sites for refuse. The led (people), as earlier said, are equally culpable due to the ‘I don’t care’ posture we adopted towards politics and governance” He enthused.

Chief Okereke insisted that there is hope for Abia state despite the many years of darkness if the people will embrace the reality, “At this critical stage in our nation’s polity, especially as it affects our dear own state, Abia, and the several unrests and demonstrations of dissatisfaction by our teeming unemployed youths mostly occasioned by vehement, willful and perpetual bad governance and politics of self, there calls for a deeper reflection on the way we, as a people, perceive and react to politics.

Today, thanks to men of good will, democracy which is the government of the people, by the people and for the people has granted us closer access into how we are represented by our elected sons and daughters.

It has also empowered us with our basic human rights and the rights to demand their implementation whenever and wherever we feel neglected, marginalized or threatened either by regional/political rivalry or by our very own elected representatives, he declared.

He speaks further on the motivation to accept the challenge to serve his people, “As a “son of the soil” and true Abian in every sense and having taken time to study both the political terrain of our dear state and the deficiencies occasioned, not by our inabilities and unworthiness but by sheer neglect and nonchalance, I have, this time and finally, bowed to pressure of cries for help from my Abia brothers and sisters to step out and show true, refined, functional, absolutely productive, enduring and efficient leadership.

Chief Okereke declared that his government will be open, transparent with probity and accountability as its watchword. “Reforming Abia and bringing her into the full statue of the State for God takes more than sheer desire to lead, it takes absolute and unflinching resolve to do the needful.

All moribund industries to be resuscitated and every meaningful and meaningless excuse against it removed; Agriculture will have its full place and will run in full capacity to enable us produce enough for ourselves and for exportation.

Abians have full constitutional right to use the basic resources given them by God – resources like land and waterways. We will process the modalities for and begin the dredging of the Azumini axis to enable it grant, not only Abians but Ndigbo access to the sea. To pilot our dear state to full productive capacity, people will be recognized and employed by merit. We will reconstruct Aba to reflect its true nature: The Enyimba City.”

He speaks about the all Hail Biafra Anthem, “By His Grace, I am a gifted poet and composer of Hymns/anthems; my composition ‘God Bless Africa’ won the African Union Anthem Competition and one of my other compositions “All Hail Biafra (Cry of A Biafran Child)” is a household song amongst us. Different oppressed or marginalized groups find solace in All Hail Biafra as anthem. I cried for Ndigbo at the end of the Biafran war and I shed tears as I prepare to lead the redemption of Abia State. I have heeded calls to aspire for the number one seat in our dear state.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the leader of our great party UPP, Chief Chekwas Okorie for giving the people the party platform to choose the best to represent them for posterity. Vote for me as your next governor and you will no longer cry nor suffer in Abia.

Politics / Obasanjo Is A Prophet, Buhari Should Listen To His Advice – T.a Orji by meethumb: 9:13pm On Jan 30, 2018
The Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and immediate past governor of Abia State, Senator Theodore Orji, has described the former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo as a “prophet”.

Sen Orji, representing Abia Central Senatorial District in the Red Chamber of the National Assembly, spoke on the recent letter written by the former Nigerian leader, Obasanjo, where he urged President Muhammadu Buhari to bury his 2019 re-election bid and retire back to his hometown in Daura, Katsina State.

It should be recalled that Obasanjo had written an open letter to President Buhari, in the letter, he asked the president to shun seeking for re-election in 2019, according to him, Buhari has performed below expectations.

Reacting, Sen Orji, in an interview with newsmen said President Buhari should heed to Obasanjo’s advice, according to him, former leaders who failed to listen to Obasanjo, saw the consequences.

He said; “I can only advice the federal government to accede to the advice from the elder statesman and former President of Nigeria. The man has become a prophet and that is why I advise that his letter should not be treated with levity, but with the seriousness it deserves. It is not the first time he has written to a President.

“He has done so over the years and no sooner has the letter been received than those that failed to heed it have themselves to blame. But seriously speaking the former President has performed his role as a former President and an elder statesman. Such a person cannot be around and see things going wrong and keep quiet.

“So for me, there is nothing wrong with what he has done and I also think that there will be nothing wrong for the federal government to take his advice and do the proper thing. There was nothing personal in the letter he wrote and he was merely writing to a friend and brother both in the military and democracy.

“Both of them have come a long way so they owe themselves only the truth and that is what President Obasanjo has done. He should be commended for the courage as he was commended when he wrote in 2013. He should not be villified.

Nairaland / General / Soldiers, State Govt Officials Beat Tailor To Coma In Aba [PHOTOS] by meethumb: 8:56am On Jan 30, 2018
Monday, January 29th, 2018 - was indeed a tragic day in the city of Aba, when a tailor, Mr. Peter Duru, was mercilessly beaten to coma by soldiers and officials of Abia State Vigilante group aka Bakassi.

Duru, a well-known tailor at Number 88, Osusu Road, yesterday, received the beating of his life during a demolition exercise on Osusu Road in Aba South Local Government Area.

It should be recalled that the Abia State government gave residents in Aba whose buildings is close to the drainage to cede at least 10ft space for road expansion.

But confusion trailed demolition exercise on Osusus road yesterday, when the government officials crossed the 10ft space ordered by the state government and demolished buildings that are beyond 10ft far from the drainage.

The confusion led Mr. Duru to be brutalized by Soldiers and Bakassi men, after he tried to enquire the reason behind the extension of the demolition beyond where it was initially marked.

An eyewitness told ABACITYBLOG that Duru was discussing with a member of the demolition team before disagreement ensued and attracted a soldier’s attention. While trying to escape, Duru and the soldier fell into the gutter.

This earned the man the beating of his life.

Duru's maltreatment forced residents to scamper to safety. The road was deserted as passers-by abandoned the road while members of Abia State Vigilante group were hitting people with planks and heavy sticks. They also ordered everybody to vacate the road.

Residents who are close to Duru, said the victim who hails from Amucha in Njaba Local Government Area, survived a motor accident last month before he was beaten yesterday.

The tailor became unconscious and rushed to the hospital. Some residents said they were not against the demolition exercise, but were disappointed that the exercise led to the maltreatment on one of them.

“Before they came this morning (yesterday), this man they almost killed now in conjunction with most of us here volunteered and even helped people to knock down some places. We cooperated with government. We never resisted the demolition. He only asked a question to ascertain if the place marked in his father’s house is not beyond the 10 feet government said we should leave after the gutter.

“You were here; you saw it and heard it all. You saw how that Bakassi man was hitting him with stick and soldiers kicking him? They marked certain buildings last year, but last week, the other buildings which were not included were now included. This created confusion. Duru’s offense was that he tried to get an answer which was confusing all of us here. He is now in the hospital.

"We just pray he survives this one because, this man nearly died in a motor accident last month,” a resident said.

Celebrities / Popular Singer, African-china Speaks Of Going For “sex-doll” by meethumb: 8:46am On Jan 20, 2018
Following the recent worldwide trend of sex-doll, Popular singer, African China, has said that the innovation should be something people should be frowned upon.

Reacting over the innovation and comments the sex-doll trend has generated in Nigeria, the singer said; “I think the innovation of sex dolls should be something we should frown upon because it is absolute rubbish, the singer said.

According to him, “When we don’t have scarcity of women or even men in the land, why should people opt for sex dolls? I know that there are some sex starved people but I doubt that they would stoop so low to the extent of acquiring a sex doll. It is not something for the Nigerian market; it could work in the western world.

“However, on a second thought, it would not even work there as well because their women also need men to comfort them, especially due to their harsh weather,” he said.

African-China noted that sex doll business would not thrive in the country because a typical Nigerian man would get tired of having sex with a doll after some time.

“The market would not thrive in Nigeria simply because whoever buys it would get tired of it eventually. To avoid being tired of the sex doll, a person would need to buy as many as possible and that would be ridiculous. Our women may nag and complain a lot but that is the beauty of a relationship. If a woman complains or nags, it only shows that she still cares about you.

“There are times you would want to touch your woman and she would play hard to get; that is the beauty of the sexual relationship because if you get it easily, you would not value it.

“The sex doll cannot go out with you to parties or events. If it is not flesh and blood, it can never be the real thing,” he added.

Politics / 12 Policemen Stormed And Ransacked Mbaka’s Home In Abuja by meethumb: 9:19pm On Jan 19, 2018
About 12 policcem, armed to the teeth & brandishing a purported search warrant, granted by a judge, based on a baseless & univestigated petition, stormed & ransacked the Abuja home of Engr Emma Mbaka.

Engr Emma Mbaka, for those who may care to know, is the founder & managing director of Platinum Mortgage bank, a foremost real estate developer in Abuja & across the country, Trademore developers, the owner of the largest building structure owned by an individual, Platinum Mega Mall Abuja, a hotelier, Common Wealth Hotels, a great philanthropist, Emma Mbaka Foundations & one of the highest donors to Catholic faith in Nigeria, a Palpal Knight & employer of many thousands of Nigerians to mention a few.

He was alleged to have been accused in a spurious, stupid, frivolous & univestigated petition of being a sponsor of the Boko Haram terror group. That he had spent billions of Naira buying weapons & needs of the terror group.

Mbaka’s home was turned inside out, the cars in his compound & water storage tanks ransacked in search of weapons he was alleged to have stock piled & is supplying to the terror group to destroy the same Nigeria he has invested so much in.

Engr Mbaka, a silent celebrity & top business man, is well known around the country & particularly in Abia state where he hails from & has touched so many lives. Amongst his friends are state Governors, Ministers, captains of industry, the police hierarchy retired & serving military officers, heads of security agencies & the Nigerian clergy. All these people, in ideal, situations & in civilised climes, would have vouched to his character & possibility of sponsoring a terrorist group. These facts ought to have been ascertained or revealed in a thorough police investigation before a judge or magistrate grants a search warrant in these type of situations that have continued to embarrass, attract international hatred & put our country to shame.

Engr Mbaka who is married from Uli, in Anambra state, is said to have on going major issues with his wife & her brother which he alleged to have involved threats to his life, a matter presently before the Inspector General of police. The question everyone seem to be asking is, whether this is part of the battle. Your quess maybe same as ours.

Questions as to why these very ugly things should continue to happen in our country, involving security agencies & the judiciary, who should protect us, are left for the authorities at different levels & sectors to find out.

Politics / Fulani Herdsmen: Orji Kalu Reacts, Says He Was Quoted Out Of Context by meethumb: 3:10pm On Jan 15, 2018
The former Abia State governor, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, through his Media Aide, Kenneth Udeh, has finally reacted on the alleged media report he was quoted as saying that “Those Killing Nigerians are not Fulani Herdsmen”

Kalu was reacting following a statement credited to him while addressing newsmen in his country home in Igbere, Abia State, where he said that “aggrieved Politicians and runaway insurgents (Boko Haram) from Niger Republic might be behind those unleashing the mayhem on various parts of the country in the guise of Fulani cattle herders.

The statement which sparked missed reactions online following the recent killings by the herdsmen in Benue and Taraba States. Some Nigerians lambasted the former governor for defending the killer herdsmen.

Responding to the peoples reactions in a statement sent to ABACITYBLOG – Chief Kalu said he was quoted out of context, according to him, “Fulani herdsmen may have been involved but It would be highly erroneous and irrational to conclude that all Fulani herdsmen who are nomadic in cattle rearing are killers and generally responsible for the attacks.

The full statement reads:

Our attention has been drawn to the torrents of reactions from various members of the public which has since trailed recent interview of Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu with newsmen on the 7th of January in the Igbere Country home of the former Governor of Abia State over his comments as reported by various sections of the Media that Fulani herdsmen are not responsible for the attacks and killings of innocent Nigerians in various parts of the country.

Despite the fact that Chief Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu the former Governor of Abia State is entitled to his opinion as a law abiding citizen of the country as enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, we would like to categorically state that he was quoted out of context with regards his response to the question of what he thinks over the issue while Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu expresses his sympathy to victims of the attacks ,the general public are encouraged to understand that when critical national se issues arises it is pertinent to look at the causes and solutions to those issues from various angles in order to assist the Army and other sister security agencies solve the problem.

It is well known to every well informed Nigerian that the Nigerian Army including the coordinated joint border task force in Nigerian border countries have dealth decisively with the Boko – Haram terrorists in their various enclaves and strong holds in the Northern parts of Nigeria as well as border countries like Niger. Dr . Orji Uzor Kalu from the interview holds the opinion which actually means that isn’t it possible that such terrorist elements may have “infiltrated” the rank and file of the Fulani herdsmen to continue to perpetrate it’s nefarious evil activities of terrorism by killing people in such barbaric manners ?

There may have been a few instances which the Fulani herdsmen may have been involved but It would be highly erroneous and irrational to conclude that all Fulani herdsmen who are nomadic in cattle rearing are killers and generally responsible for the attacks.

Nigeria even before her independence has lived peacefully with the Fulani herdsmen rearing their cattle in various parts of the country. Dr. Orji Kalu’s opinion poses a series of questions that if well answered might just be the solution to the incessant attacks. That after all these years of the peaceful cattle rearing activities of Fulani herdsmen in Nigeria why is it now that the elections are close by that the attacks are on the rise??

Since the inception of the Administration of President Buhari our gallant Nigerian soldiers under the President have been well equipped without it’s funds being embezzled or diverted to enrich a few in the society, unlike the past administration which has led to the nefarious activities of Boko Haram being reduced to it’s barest minimum , isn’t it possible that a few aggrieved from the past administration may engaged in deploying their stolen funds to sponsor terrorists from neighbouring countries to infiltrate the Fulani herdsmen under the guise of cattle rearing and land disagreement to perpetrate these attacks inorder to discredit the administration of the President in his fight against corruption and terrorism which the past administration failed woefully in??

The opinion of Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu remains that of his , he may be right or wrong. What matters most is for the security agencies to live up to it’s reaponsibilties by making sure the those resonsible behind the attacks including its sponsors are caught and made to face the full wrath of the law regardless of their tribe and religion.

While Dr. Kalu commends the Nigerian Media the members of the public and good people of Nigeria are encouraged to be properly guided with statements as we seek a lasting solution these attacks.

Politics / Kalu: Those Killing Nigerians Are Not Fulani Herdsmen, They're From Niger Republ by meethumb: 9:58am On Jan 11, 2018
Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, the former Abia State governor has said that Fulani herders are not responsible for the recent killings in parts of the country.

According to him, prominent Nigerians who are against the anti-corruption war of the Federal Government are the major sponsors of the alleged killer herdsmen.

Kalu who stated this while sympathizing with the victims and families of those who were  killed in Taraba and Benue States, said perpetrators were mostly returnees from Niger Republic who infiltrated the people and pretended to be Fulani herders.

He said these killer herders were mostly sponsored by politicians who were aggrieved because the President blocked the various channels by which the country’s resources were being siphoned.

Kalu said when he was the governor of Abia State, he was  never in good terms with some  rich individuals who were busy milking the state.

He added there was trouble around the country now because President Muhammadu Buhari had ended the old ways of handling the nation’s resources.

Kalu spoke in his country home, Igbere,  during the launch of free interest loan to Abians in Abia North Senatorial District.

Politics / Anambra: Any Herdsman With AK-47 Will Be Jailed - Gov. Obiano by meethumb: 10:30am On Jan 09, 2018
There will be no room for any herdsman wielding AK-47 rifles and other dangerous weapons in the state, anyone caught would face the wrath of the law - says the Anambra governor, Chief Willie Obiano.

Gov. Obiano’s warning came a few days after the herdsmen terrorized a village in Benue State, killing almost everyone in the community both pregnant women.

The governor, who spoke during at a reception in his Aguleri country home after receiving the chieftaincy title of Ebubedike Aguleri from his community, maintained that on no account should herdsmen with dangerous weapons, including AK-47, be allowed in the state.

He also noted that he had been briefed on the update of the Fulani cattle menace experienced in some parts of the state, as the Chief Security Officer, Obiano assured the people that he is on top of the situation and will ensure that the matter is quickly and amicably resolved.

Obiano further said his government has commenced latent actions to forestall any incident that may lead to mayhem or loss of lives.

“Part of the measures taken to address the menace was sensitising both host communities and the Fulani herdsmen, of the existing agreement that any party that destroys either the lives or property of the other will pay and also be prosecuted,” he said.

The governor noted that Anambra people are peace-loving people, who welcome visitors who are seeking wealth opportunities in the state. Obiano, however, warned that those who might want to take advantage of the people’s hospitality will be decisively dealt with.

Politics / 30,000 Nigerian Soldiers Are Homeless – Former Army Chief, Ihejirika by meethumb: 12:00pm On Jan 02, 2018
Former Chief Of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant-General Azubuike Ihejirika (retd), has revealed that about 30,000 soldiers have no accommodation.

Gen. Ihejirika, said the situation had forced army authorities to keep troops fighting Boko Haram insurgents for as long as three years in the North East, whereas they ought to spend between nine months and one year there.

To solve the accommodation problem, Ihejirika told Sun that 50 percent of funds approved for construction in the North East should be channeled into renovating military barracks and construction of new ones.

He said: “More barracks need to be built. Within the three and half years I was in office, we expanded the strength of the army by, at least, 21,000, but we did not build accommodation for the 21,000.

“We built new barracks leading to new accommodations for, at least, 5,000 people; what of the other 16,000? And since I left office, more people have been recruited, so, any fund available for the counter insurgency, a good proportion of that money, if possible, fifty 50 percent, should go to rehabilitation of barracks and construction of new ones, to accommodate the, perhaps, up to 30,000, soldiers currently not properly accommodated.

“Today, they are engaged, tomorrow, they will be disengaged and they will go back to the barracks.

“Due to inadequate accommodation, rotation of troops is difficult. We now have troops in the battle area for two or three years; so, that has to do with welfare of troops generally.”

On the recent order by the chief of army staff to officers and soldiers of the Nigerian army to learn the three major Nigerian languages of Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba, Ihejirika, who said there was nothing wrong with the directive, explained that knowledge of local languages enhanced unity in operations and reduces mutual suspicion between the civil populace and the military that operate in the area.

The former army chief described the extension of tenure of the Defence and service chiefs by President Muhammadu Buhari as “bad business for sponsors and sympathisers of the Boko Haram terrorists” operating within and outside the country.

Politics / Okorocha: If They Call Me 'Okoroawusa', I Don't Care by meethumb: 4:48pm On Dec 25, 2017
The Imo State governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, has finally reacted to the name, Okoroawusa, which people fondly call him.

Speaking with Vanguard, Gov Okorocha said he always enjoys it when people call him Okoroawusa, because it only makes him laugh.

He said; "I think I am one of the most misunderstood Nigerians nowadays. It makes me laugh. I enjoy it, you know why? People do not face the real issues.

"You know too well where I come from. I am from this state. But I was brought up in the North. The North gave me childhood, gave me education. I was born here. My parents were Igbo. They went to the North in search of greener pasture. I was brought up there. But when I went into business it was my contact with the West that made me what I am in business.

"I claim, and I know, that I am a successful businessman. I cannot afford to hate the North or hate my people. Whatever they want to call me – Okoroawusa, Okoroyoruba or Okoroigbo – I don’t care because it does not affect my identity. Out of the 15,000 children I have, about 7,000 of them are Muslims.

"These are my children. They have become members of my family. I can’t love them and reject their religions. These are statements from my political opponents who want to portray me differently to make me look like a jester or a joker.

Politics / Innoson Vs GTB: How Does A Private Commercial Matter Becomes EFCC Case? - Saraki by meethumb: 9:34am On Dec 21, 2017
The Senate yesterday condemned arrest of the MD of Innoson Motors, Chief Innocent Chukwuma by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

To this effect, it mandated its committee on anti corruption and financial crimes to investigate the matter within 24 hours.

The resolution followed a point of order by Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, who said the businessman was arrested over commercial issue between him and Guarantee Trust Bank.

Senate President Bukola Saraki said the arrest of Chukwuma portrayed the country in a bad light.

“That does not speak well of the country. How will a private commercial matter becomes EFCC case? We are just making mockery of ourselves,” he said.

Mr. Chukwuma was arrested by the operatives of the EFCC in Enugu on Tuesday.

Acting Chairman of EFCC, Ibrahim Magu in a brief interview with newsmen at the Senate wing of the National Assembly said he was aware of the arrest but that the commission would issue a statement on it.

Meanwhile, the EFCC released Chief Innocent Chukwuma on bail yesterday. This was confirmed by Wilson Uwujaren, EFCC’s Head of Media & Publicity in a statement.

Politics / PDP Under Jonathan In One Day Distributed $269M & N100bn - Lai Mohammed by meethumb: 7:17am On Dec 16, 2017
Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the minister for Information and Culture, has accused the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, under the former president Goodluck Jonathan, of distributing $269 million cash and N100 billion money, which was meant to fight Boko Haram.

Mohammed stated this while reacting to the PDP statement on the approval of $1 billion from the Excess Crude Account for the fight against insecurity by the National Economic Council (NEC).

Recall that the PDP in its reaction had alleged that it was unnecessary for the Federal Government to get $1 billion to fight a war the government had in the past claimed to have won.

The reaction was articulated by the party's National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan - who also alleged that the funds were some surreptitious purposes claiming that the era of lies and propaganda were over.

Reacting, Mohammed blamed the PDP alleging that the PDP is now rebranding itself with the stolen money that was originally meant to fight Boko Haram noting that in one day, “the PDP under Jonathan in one day distributed $269 million cash and N100 billion which was supposed to be money meant to fight Boko Haram.”

According to him, "the PDP does not know when to keep quiet"

He said: “the sad thing about PDP is that they do not know when not to talk. If they were smart they would know when not to talk.”

“If not for their rapacious corruption Boko Haram would not have metamorphosed into the monster that it became before we came in. If only they had approached governance with honesty transparency, and sense of purpose Boko Haram would not have raged between 2009 and 2015, it was their inept handling of Boko Haram and their corruption that put us in this mess.

“They seem not to understand that the biggest challenge to any government and the primary responsibility of any government is law and order and security. It is because of the fact that we have been able to contain Boko Haram that they were able to hold their national convention in Abuja.

“During their time they were not able to celebrate the National Day openly. Under their watch, Boko Haram not only occupied 27 local governments in Borno State, but was also active in almost ten states. Not that alone, they used to stroll to the federal capital, and three times they went to bomb the United Nations, the Police headquarters and under their watch, the Thisday newspaper was bombed and under their watch, about 200 Chibok girls were abducted,” Mohammed said.

Religion / Mbaka: I'll Take Stern Measures Against My Members Who Do Not Have Voters' Cards by meethumb: 8:27am On Dec 01, 2017
The Enugu Catholic fiery priest and the spiritual director of Adoration Ministry, Enugu, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, has urged all the members of his ministry to acquire voters card ahead of 2019 general election in the country.

Mbaka made this declaration during his ministration at an all-night inter-denominational crusade organised by the Directorate of Inter Faith, National Youth Council of Nigeria, which was hosted on the Adoration Ground with pastors and youths in attendance.

This is as the fiery priest vowed to support youths to take over leadership positions in the country.

Waxing biblical on his ministration tagged: “Nullifying the counsel of Ahithophel,” Fr. Mbaka charged the youths to stand up for leadership roles in the country and stop being used as stooges and political thugs during elections.

“The time of old and incompetent politicians using the youths as thugs was over. It is pathetic that men the youths should be leading are ironically leading them. It is a shame to our youths,” he lamented.

The cleric disclosed that he had earlier charged all worshippers in his ministry to acquire voters’ cards, and warned that he would take stern measures against worshipers who do not have voters’ cards “as that amounts to sin as it paves way for the election of wrong and corrupt leaders.”

He said he was feeling the brunt of evil leadership the more as unemployment and social problems created by bad government hasstretched his charity work.

Mbaka also prayed for the youths against every physical and spiritual inhibition that would stop them from experiencing their breakthroughs and taking the pride of their positions in their families and the society.

Politics / Alleged Fraud: Witness Clears Orji Kalu, Indicts T.A Orji, Udeogu by meethumb: 1:10pm On Nov 30, 2017
A witness of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), John Ejim, yesterday told Justice Mohammed Idris of a Federal High Court in Lagos that a former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, was not a signatory to the Government House Account while he presided over the state’s affairs between 1999 and 2007.

Ejim made the disclosure while testifying in the on-going trial of the former governor and two others over alleged fraud.

In his testimony, the witness said the then Chief of Staff, Dr. Theodore Orji, and the Director of Finance and Account, Jones Udeogu, were the signatories to the account.

While being cross-examined by Kalu’s lawyer, Chief Awa Kalu (SAN), the witness said the report of the investigation carried out by his team on the matter is in the EFCC’s file and that he never had any direct interface with the former governor throughout the period of the enquiry.

“The investigation started in 2004 through intelligence gathering activities. The report about the investigation we carried out is in EFCC’s file. I never had any direct interface with the first defendant (Dr. Kalu),” the witness said.

Ejim further disclosed that he did not know the EFCC official that executed the search warrant on the office of Slok Nigeria Limited, both at Victoria Island and Apapa.

He added that he was also not aware of any backdraft that was raised in favour of Dr. Kalu (first defendant).

He said: “I don’t know the officer who executed the warrant order. I did not see any bank draft made in favour of the first defendant. No draft was raised or lodged in the first defendant’s personal account.”

The EFCC’s investigative officer had earlier told the court that sometimes in September 2005, the commission received a petition dated September 7, 2005 from a group known as Abia Leaders’ Forum. He said his team was later instructed to investigate the allegations raised by the petitioners.

The witness further disclosed that prior to the receipt of the petition, the EFCC was already building intelligence on all state governors and had already zeroed in on those who were accused of diverting their states’ funds.

“It was on this basis that our team was directed to handle the issue of Abia State. We commenced investigation by writing letters to various banks that were identified in the intelligence information. We later analysed the responses received from the banks. Search was also conducted with a search warrant on the office of Slok Nigeria Limited, both at Victoria Island and Apapa.

“Documents recovered in the course of the search were properly documented while principal officers from Abia State Government House, among whom was the then Chief of Staff, Dr. Theodore Orji, were invited for questioning.

"The then Director of Finance and Account, Jones Udeogu, as well as two cashiers from the Account Department of Government House, Romanus Madu and Micheal Udoh, were also invited for interrogation,” the witness said.

Further hearing in the matter continues today.

He was killed shortly afterwards. The NTC initially claimed he died from injuries sustained in a firefight when loyalist forces attempted to free him, although videos of his last moments show rebel fighters beating him and one of them sodomizing him with a bayonet before he was shot several times as he shouted for his life. [This is according to Wikipedia]

Although, after his death, several reports had it that it was the US and UN who engineered the rebels that stands against him which led to his death.

Five years after Gaddafi's death, such evil predicted by Donald Trump has befall Libya, as migrants who went for in search of greener pastures are being sold as slaves, while some were tortured to death.

Trump, who took to his twitter page on August 23, 2011, prophesied that such evil will definitely befall Libya following the death of their leader.
