Politics / House of Reps speaks on El-Zakzaky and Wife's medical leave by meethumb: 7:07pm On Aug 06, 2019
The Federal House of Representatives through the Chairman, Media and Public Affairs Committee, Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has reacted to the recent release of the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Ibraheem El-Zakzaky and his wife.

It should be recalled that a High Court sitting in Kaduna State, had on Monday, August 5th, granted a leave to El-Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenat, on the condition to go to India for medical treatment.

ABACITYBLOG also recalled that Mr El-Zakzaky has been in detention since December 2015, he was, in April 2018, charged with murder, culpable homicide, unlawful assembly.

Reacting to his conditional release, Hon. Kalu, Official Spokesman of the House of Reps, commended the DSS for confirming the House confidence in their willingness to respect the independence of the various arms of government especially the judiciary.

He said; "You will agree with us that the independence of the judiciary is critical to the success of our democracy. We consider this an indication that the rule of law is prioritised and respected by this government.

"The court ruling was made to ensure the good health of the accused person. It does not stop the judicial arm from tidying up the process of his trial upon his return. Recall, it was not an application for bail that was granted. The matter is still before a court of competent jurisdiction. It will be contemptuous, for us to speak in details on such sub judicial matter.

"Functional democracy is better achieved in a healthy atmosphere of independence yet close partnership among the arms of Government. This was one of the proposals of the 9th House of Representative’s Joint Task of Nation Building - promoting understanding between the arms of government for the interest of the citizens.

"This is a new dawn in our history of democracy, we are determined to work with all the arms of Government to take the narratives to the Next Level and With the support of the people, the effort of the present government to sustain the rule of law will be achieved, Kalu told newsmen.

Politics / VIDEO: Why FG Should Issue Licenses To Local Oil Refineries - Senator Kalu by meethumb: 8:45am On Jul 28, 2019
Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, senator representing Abia North district at the National Assembly, have moved a motion over shortage of refined PMS (Premium Motor Spirit).

Kalu, in his motion suggested that since Nigeria is one of the largest producers of crude oil in the world, there shouldn't be any need for shortage of petrol in the country. To this effect, Kalu urged the National Assembly to look into a means of granting the local refineries licences to enable the surplus of PMS.

He recalled in 1999, during his time as a governor of Abia State, he wrote to the then President (Olusegun Obasanjo) to enforce the oil companies in Nigeria, namely, EXXON MOBIL, CHEVERON, TOTAL and AGIP, to establish refineries in Nigeria rather than refining the crude oil outside the country.

According to him, the President didn't listen. Moving his motion, Senator Kalu said oil thieves, those who refined the products locally, should be given licences, the products and price, to refine, to enable surplus.

He said; "I think that all those people stealing and refining our crude oil, should be recognise and given licenses, they should give them up to one thousand licenses to those boys and give them oil at half price to refine and put an inspectorate department of NNPC to inspect so that we have surpluses with other refineries.

"For example In 1999 when we became governor, I proposed in writing to the then President to force the oil companies, namely, EXXON MOBIL, CHEVERON, TOTAL and AGIP, to build a refinery owned by 80% Nigerian government and then we own 20% and manage it, and after 10 years, the 80% should be offloaded in the Nigerian stock exchange but the then government didn't listen to it".

"Even if Dangote refinery opens today in Nigeria, we are still going to have a shortage of our refined petroleum products in Nigeria", Kalu said.

Politics / Northern Youths Advises INEC Over Issuance Of Certificate Return To Senator Uwaj by meethumb: 8:31am On Jul 22, 2019
Northern Youths Advises INEC Over Issuance Of Certificate Return To Senator Uwajumogu.

By Jacob Onjewu

...tells Senate President to act on subsection 75 (2) of Electoral Act in swearing in Senator Uwajumogu.

A coalition of various groups has advised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to avoid contempt of court by immediately issuing certificate of return to Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu as ordered by an Abuja High Court.

The coalition jointly signed by Dr Amos Shelley of Integrity Africa, Comrade Sani Yusuf Danmasani on behalf of Arewa Youths Movement For Justice and Good Governance and Comrade Idris Abubakar Salanke for Northern APC Youths Vanguard, was made available to newsmen in Kaduna on Sunday July 21, 2019.

"We are disappointed about INEC's refusal to present certificate of return to Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu of the Imo North Senatorial District almost three weeks after a competent High Court ordered same.

"This disregard for the judiciary by INEC can be considered to contempt of court and we advise that the needful be done without further delays," the group said.

They informed that in the suit, an Abuja High Court, presided by Honourable Justice Taiwo O. Taiwo on July 4th, 2019 ordered the INEC in his Judgment Order, in the suit filed by Senator Uwajumogu as Applicant, in Suit No FHC/ABJ/CS/395/2018, said that, INEC under Nigeria's existing laws, lacked powers to review declaration of the applicant returned elected.

"That the Independent National Electoral Commission does not have the power or right under any law in Nigeria to review or otherwise deal with any question related or connected the declaration or return of the Applicant for Imo North Senatorial District Election held on the 23rd of February 2019," they quoted from the Judgment Order.

They further explained that it is incumbent on the INEC and four others joined in the suit as defendants; Engineer Ndubuisi Emenike, Honourable Patrick Nwabueze, Honourable Chibuike Charles Ohirimba and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to respect the order.

The group further said that the INEC cannot claim ignorance to the order, because a copy of a letter from Senator Uwajumogu's Counsel Ewere A. Aliemeke Esq which they got a copy of, was received by INEC on July 5, 2019.

"That letter drew the commission's attention to the High Court Judgment Order in favour of its client, even

Electoral Act 2010 as amended in 2015, gives the Senate President powers to swear in a winner based on subsection 75 (2).

"When commission refuses and or neglects to issue a certificate of return, a certified true copy of Order of Court of competent jurisdiction shall ipso factor be sufficient for swearing in a candidate declared as winner by that court," they quoted subsection 75 (2) of the electoral act.

They therefore, appealed to the Senate President to swear in Senator Uwajumogu based on sub section 75 (2) of the Electoral Act as amended in 2010.

It would be recalled that other groups like the Okigwe Unity Forum (OUF), in Imo North senatorial district, have threatened to protest at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) if it fails within one week to issue the Senator representing Imo North, Benjamin Uwajumogu, Certificate of Return.

Addressing newsmen in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area, National President of the group, Clement Agbaso, accused INEC of daring them by not complying with the recent Federal High Court judgment ordering the commission to issue Uwajumogu Certificate of Return.

Politics / RUGA: Another Fulani Herdsmen Village Discovered In Abia by meethumb: 9:20am On Jul 20, 2019
Reports has it that another Fulani community aside from the popular Lokpanta cattle market has been discovered in Abia State.

The pictures accompanying this publication are pictures of another Fulani community deep inside Owaza, in Ukwa West Local government area of Abia State.

According to Abia Pulse, the settlement is mainly for herders who go out in shifts to graze with their cattle while a group stay back to guard the community.

Recently a group of health workers had to go to the community for immunization but where rebuffed by the Fulani dwellers who told them that they don’t want to be immunized.

A closer investigation revealed that they rejected the immunization thinking that government wanted to kill all of them through injection over the RUGA issue.
It took an interpreter and a lot of persuading to convince them to accept that their children be immunized.

Politics / VIDEO: Hon. Benjamin Kalu Receives Standing Ovation Over Bill To Amend NMA by meethumb: 9:29pm On Jul 19, 2019
Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, representing Bende Federal Constituency, received a standing ovation from his colleagues after reading out a bill for the amendment of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency.

Kalu, in the motion sponsored by him, urged the national assembly to adhere to the bill and  grant the NMA the sole authority to grant approvals and licenses for the establishments of meteorological stations across the nation.

It should be recalled that NMA also known as NIMET Provide weather forecasts and reports for safe operation of flights. NiMet has also been mandated by law to provide weather and climate information, advisories and services to all its stakeholders. This is to enable stakeholders in these sectors such as agriculture, transportation, tourism, water resources management, health, environment, communication, budget and planning etc.

Frowning that NMA isn't living up to standards according to the world's standard expectation, by their forecast, Hon. Kalu wants the agency to be given authority to issue licenses to the private sector to enable more stations established and by which, it will provide jobs.

The bill, which was read out for the first time received a rousing acceptance from other Hon. members as all supported the motion by shouting "Aye".

Politics / Herders/farmers Conflict; Kalu’s Strategic Template Of Success, Worthy Of Emulat by meethumb: 7:43am On Jul 18, 2019
Herders/farmers Conflict; Kalu’s Strategic Template Of Success, Worthy Of Emulation.

By Noble Uche Agbaeze.

Before expatiating on the fact in issue, I humbly appeal that we first allow ourselves to be properly guided by the following positions of the law, first is Section 24 (d) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (As Amended) which empowers every citizen of Nigeria to make positive and useful contributions to the advancement, progress and well-being of the community where he resides, second is that of Section 4 of the same 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (As Amended) regarding a national assembly member which is an obligatory cloak constitutionally on the person of Distinguished Senator Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu and the third is that of Section 39(1) which also fundamentally guarantees freedom of expression, including freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart ideas and information without interference for every person.

Another intrinsic issue is, in followership to Senator Kalu my voice and pen are behind the advocacy for the government to expunge all criminal elements that may have infiltrated cattle rearing by any means possible, the real persons must be separated from the terrorists, bandits, rapists, kidnappers, cattle rustlers and arm robbers, this is a strange trend from what we used to know about Nigerian cattle herders.

Now, on the fact in issue, Kalu’s comments on RUGA, those who are learned in the area of constructions and interpretations of statutes know that they are important rules to apply to understand the true meaning of words as used in a statement, apart from the Literal rule which seem to be the only one applied by the crowd, we also have other rules like the Purposive rule, Ejusdem generis, Ut res magis valeat quam pereat, Golden Rule, Expressio unius est exclusio alterius, etc.

I apply this in my daily living to understand people better when they communicate.

At the extant case we must apply a purposive interpretation to understand Senator Kalu very well, we must look at the intent and the defect he was seeking to cure, I have gone through so many opinions on Senator Kalu’s interview, so frivolous and laughable, few notable persons have also said we do not have RUGA in Abia, however that is relatively correct to the extent that we do not have the same RUGA exactly as formerly proposed by the Federal Government and Senator Kalu never also said he established RUGA as exactly fashioned by the Federal Government.

Anyone saying so is not correct. What is RUGA? RUGA means Rural Grazing Area, and that is what Kalu meant from the sense of the definition of the Acronym and not from the same sense as regards the structure and modality of that as proposed by the Federal Government, it is obvious that he was misconstrued by our people.

With due respect his statement is correct from the purposive interpretation and from the natural meaning of the acronym, he provided Rural Grazing Area, is as simple as that, it is now left for people to verify the details of his own kind of Rural Grazing Area, and see the things contained therein, it does not qualify for the kind of bitterness I have seen, we are not in a state of nature rather in civility.

Some said he only provided cattle market, so long as the cattle graze in a controlled area to live before being sold, it is RUGA, remember some of them stay for months even years before being sold. Read his interview again with unbiased mind you will understand this, you will also see where he differed from the recently suspended RUGA program in modality.

Flowing from the above, Senator Kalu has without equivocations, held his opinion on the herders/farmers conflict with the view to proffering proportionate and perpetual solution.

I have visited, transacted and benefited from the cattle settlement he referred to, in his recent interview, just like very many of our people, most of them are those who have taken to different media platforms to ethnocentrically, unfairly and laughably criticize him on trifles and trivialities devoid of objective reasoning not premised on relativism.

The problem here is that many of us are now getting used to maliciously and acrimoniously holding prejudiced and biased opinions on important issues in our country today, a behavior being motivated by already existing cynicism and animosity we hold against certain persons and when some other persons hold opinions similar to that of those we have already condemned in our minds then we quickly and uncontrollably give vent to our anger on them, otherwise I do not see the worthiness and reasonableness in the kind of nasty and brutish abuses some of our people took to the social media to render on respected personality like Distinguished Senator Kalu.

It is baffling that even very exposed and highly educated persons could allow tribe, religion and political differences override their rational and empirical senses of judgement inherent in the conscience of every human.

In all the attacks on Kalu’s opinion and revelation, I did not see any of them that validly punctured and vacated the facts and truth contained in that interview, which is, that he was able as a governor to guide the herders and farmers in Abia state to love one another, maintain mutual relationship and do their different farming occupations concurrently, for our information there used to be huge presence of cattle herders in Abia state. In all the vituperations and brutish attacks, no one was able to say his assertions are falsehood.

We should be able to control our emotions to hold objective opinions and respect those that hold divergent opinions from ours especially in a democratic civilized society, everyone must agree with you all the time otherwise the person turns to be evil, that is extremist ethnocentrism which is inimical to entire human existence.

I also have where my opinion diverged a little from the structure and modality of the proposed RUGA program which I equally decorously, respectfully and objectively communicated and today President Buhari in his wisdom has already suspended the program.

The truth is that cattle rearing is a good agricultural venture to every nation that is doing it well and I believe the best thing that will work in this country now is Ranching where comfortable shelters with electricity, water and security for the herders shall also be provided but not building separate basic amenities inside the settlement for the herders, that is part of the things causing fear in supposed host communities, believing it means forcefully ceding their lands as supposed overlords.

Building separate schools, hospitals, markets and other amenities inside the settlement would prima facie misrepresent the government as importing a different community into another as a separate segment of it without the fair opportunity for exchange of values like culture, languages, marriages, religion, etc between the settlers and the host communities and such would not have represented the principle of national integration, social integration and shall not promote national unity and oneness, but when the settlers and host communities are conscientized to willfully and jointly use those amenities together, the settlers will then naturally recognize the dictates, rules of conducts and way of life of the host communities so long as they are not repugnant to equity, natural justice and good conscience and not at variance with Nigerian Laws.

The settlers and host communities shall then gradually adjust their ideologies and conducts to accommodate one another, with languages, marriages, religions and cultures being exchanged and the fear of nursing evil against each other assuaged, people empowering each other economically devoid of tribe, this is very close to what I saw at Dr. Kalu’s kind of RUGA settlement and that is why I believe the entire nation should further advance on Kalu’s strategic template of success on resolving the herders/farmers conflict.

I have transacted at the said settlement provided by Kalu, in one of the occasions I misidentified one Northerner to be from the East because of the extent he spoke Igbo language until I caught him when he mispronounced one word. This is what I saw, people in that settlement are happy with each other, some are Igbo, Fulani, Yoruba and so on.

All of us should encourage cattle business with every sense of responsibility, it is not even done by a particular tribe as we are saying, perhaps people from the south also consume beef more than the North because nothing is deemed to have been done well in the south especially in Southeast without first buying life cow including burials and no pot of food is complete without the popular ‘nama’ meat, so anyone from the south who is disparaging cattle rearing is simply hypocritical, blowing hot and cold at the same time.

To those making the laughable argument that cattle rearing is a private business, let me respectfully remind us that cattle rearing is part of agriculture and Nigerian government has been in the business of subsidizing and supporting agriculture, how many of us know that just recently the Central Bank of Nigeria distributed 30 Billion Naira to oil palm farmers across 11 states from the south and currently working with stakeholders to make quality palm seedlings and agro-chemicals available to them for improved cultivation, at the same time placed palm oil under the forex exclusion list to boost the business.

Over 82 billion Naira was invested in farming by the Federal Government through the Anchor Borrowers Progamme (ABP) in 2018 and over 350,000 farmers benefited, 8 new rice mills have come on-stream by this government, the government also in partnership with Morocco have revitalized 12 blending fertilizer plants which produced and distributed over 12 million bags to farmers across the country in 2018, the CBN is also currently working on pumping in Billions of Naira for other crop productions such as cocoa, cashew and cassava.

Fish production is also in progress. These are also part of agriculture just like cattle rearing is, under animal husbandry.

Billions of Naira have also been and are still being released to the south through the Bank of Industry (BOI) and other institutions and agencies to support industrialization and commerce and nobody is talking about them. Please let us stop making wrong and unconscionable arguments.

It is important that we develop the attitude of extricating ethnocentrism and embracing relativism whenever we are holding opinion towards issues of national importance to ensure we are holding the best conscionable objective opinion, we need to search and obey our conscience, we need to support President Buhari in providing good governance to all Nigerians.

Where our opinion differ we need to also respectfully communicate them. That is the way to build a strong comfortable nation.

Abia North Constituent wrote in from Abuja.

Politics / Special Reports: Nnamdi Kanu Reveals The Only Way To End Fulani Terror by meethumb: 3:38pm On Jul 13, 2019
The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has said that the activities of Fulani herdsmen terrorising the Southern Nigeria will only end when confronted with equal force.

The IPOB leader who was reacting to the killing of Mrs. Funke Fasoranti Olakunrin, daughter of the Chairmen of Yoruba Socio-Cultural organization, Afenifere, Chief Reuben Fosaranti, by suspected Fulani herdsmen, commiserated with the Fosaranti family and urged the entire Yoruba nation to act and face the reality.

Kanu berated what he termed Yoruba dominated media for keeping silent in the face of all the murderous activities going on around them, but only get their voices back when it issues concerning IPOB are raised.

In a statement signed by IPOB Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, Kanu called for mass revolution in Nigeria over the murderous activities of Fulani herdsmen stressing that mere Press statements and lamentations will not stop the marauding Invaders from perpetrating their planned jihad.

He added that it is unfortunately true that rampaging savagery of Fulani herdsmen across Nigeria goes to underscore the prediction he made long ago in 2015 about the sinister plan by the Fulanis, but was tagged a merchant of hate speech.

The release reads in full, "The brazen terror attack on Yoruba soil by Fulani terrorists yesterday(Friday), must not go unanswered.

"Let the murder of the daughter of Afenifere Chairman Funke Fasoranti Olakunrin by Fulani terrorists be another sombre, but timely reminder to the great Yoruba race and their media in particular that supporting evil has its unintended consequences.

"I hate to say it, but this sad incident goes to underscore the prediction I made long ago that this government of Nigeria as constituted from 2015 is a murderous Fulani Wahabbi cabal on a Jihadi mission to terrorise, subjugate and enslave everybody unfortunate enough to be part of the British colonial experiment gone mad called Nigeria.

"I specifically warned the Yoruba race and their dominant media that supporting Fulani atrocities against Biafra and suppression of the truth about the true identity of Jubril Aminu Al-Sudani because of Tinubu's 2023 presidential ambition will not only be counter-productive but will turn around to consume them.

"They called me a merchant of hate speech. Today I ask them, what is happening? It is unfortunate that at a time of great peril like this, weak men hand-picked by the same Fulani caliphate that are persecuting everybody today, are the ones in charge of the leadership of the South.

"Fulani terror will only stop when we confront them with an equal force, mere words will not do it.

"An immoral and spineless Yoruba media should shoulder the blame for the death of this prominent Yoruba daughter and the wider rampaging savagery of Fulani herdsmen across Nigeria.

"They failed to objectively report the truth but instead chose to malign and attack IPOB that saw the danger the country was sliding into way ahead of everybody.

"The time for the mother of all popular resistance is now not tomorrow. Only an IPOB led mass revolution will save the day because we are the only ones with a history of resistance against the vandals from the Sahel.

"The sooner the youths of the Middle Belt and South West rise up to join IPOB to dismantle the Zoo and chart a new course for the respective ethnic nationalities that make up Nigeria, the better our chances of survival or else we are all doomed.

"Press statements and lamentations will not stop the invaders, only concrete mass action can and we are ever ready."

While the Northerner who issued a deadline to President to go ahead and implement the suspended RUGA project in 30 days, or southerners will be thrown out of north, is working around free.

Ralph Uwazurike the MASSOB leaders who released a video message yesterday that trended worldwide, where he called on Igbos across the world to rally round against RUGA, has been invited by DSS.

In that video, Uwazurike Kicked against Ohanaeze leader Nina Nwodo reponse to the northern treat. Saying that Nina Nwodo being one of the Igbos biggest masquared ought not be the one to reply the message, while faulting World Igbo Congress position and statements on RUGA and state of the nation too.

He called on Igbos worldwide to reject RUGA and advise Igbo leaders to call for a meeting of all Igbo people to help organize a formidable resistance to the RUGA project in any part of Igbo land.

Further more, he Insisted division, not restructure, is what Nigeria needs and equally revealed how Ojukwu advised him about his renewed struggle for Biafra, when he started MASSOB in 1999, and cautioned him not to do anything that will force the Igbo man to another Civil War.

A Highly explosive and frank video though, but not inciting like that of the northern group that threatened the southerners and gave the President a deadline. This was what earned him an invitation by the Nigerian DSS.

In an SMS made available to us, the message reads, "I'm Samson from DSS office Imo state Headquarters Owerri. You are invited to come to DSS Imo state headquarters Owerri tomorrow 11/07/2019 for a meeting with the State Director. Time 1200 hours. You can call this number if you need additional information, pls".

A further inquiry revealed that his invitation is about his video message to Ndi Igbo Worldwide on RUGA.

Politics / Why Igbos Are The Salt Of The Nation - Senator Kalu by meethumb: 10:50am On Jun 23, 2019
The Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu, has said the Igbo tribe are the salt of the nation (Nigeria), ABACITYBLOG reports.

Senator Kalu stated this during his inauguration party held in his Igbere country home to thank his constituents for voting him during the 2019 election.

According to Kalu, Igbo people have the power and strength to turn the tide of Nigeria for good. He calls on the Igbos to play good politics, he decried the situation, quoting last election where they voted massively against the APC.

"Igbos should learn politics from the South-West, Senator Kalu said. He further noted that the South West voted 40/60, adding that, that is the best way to play politics.

Speaking further, the business mogul said Igbos are everywhere and if come together, they can turn the tide of Nigeria.

He said; "I can see the darkness clearing ways for light, I can see Igbo going where they never believe they will be. I can see the future is stronger with President Muhammadu Buhari. I can see the future is brighter.

"Our land is Igbo, but we are living everywhere, when you talk about the Igbo, we are everywhere, If you go to Lafia today, after their indigene, the next people you will see is Igbo, if you to Kano today, after the indigene, the next people are Igbo, if you go to Oshobo today, after their indigene, the next people you will see are Igbos.

"Nobody can dispute that, I stand to be corrected that Igbos are the salt of the nation. Yes, Igbos are the salt of the nation. We have the strength and we need to come together, to show our strength and turn the tide of the nation.

"We have the strengths and we have everything to turn the tide of the nation through democracy, we only need to come together. We can face the challenges of any type, we can face challenges of today and tomorrow, but we cannot leave the future in the hands of other people to determine where we will go.

Politics / 9th NASS: Why APC Leadership Should Listen To Us - Kalu by meethumb: 2:23pm On Apr 29, 2019
...we shall respect party's zoning on Senate President.

Abia-North Senator (elect) Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu has stated reasons the national leadership of the ruling All Progressive's Congress the APC should re-consider the Southeast zone for the principal positions in the forthcoming 9th National Assembly.

Speaking to journalists after an APC stakeholders meeting held at his Igbere country home Abia State.

Dr. Kalu posited that the if the principal positions were not equitably distributed among all geopolitical zones especially the Southeast that the APC would find it difficult to win subsequent elections in the country particularly in 2023.

Stating further that apart from President Buhari no other person in the APC currently has the followership and capacity to single handledly garner 12 million votes.

In his words: "We are not going to be having another Muhammadu Buhari because Buhari is the only individual in the party who single handedly polled 10-12 million votes alone.

Unless the party can guarantee that we shall be having another Muhammudau Buhari in 2023. So the contribution of every region in the country will very vital to the elections the party will be participating in the coming years. So leaving the Southeast behind will be detrimental and dangerous.

It is very vital to share the leadership positions equitably to give every region a sense of belonging."

On the performance of the APC in the elections in the Southeast Kalu said:

" For me It is erroneous to state that our zone did not vote for the APC in the last election because there was tremendous improvement judging from what we had in 2015 . From 3% to 27% in Abia and some other states so for me we should respect the leadership of our party, and the leadership should also respect our views.

If you have shared the positions and you didn’t share well , include our region in the sharing so that we can be empowered to go out and continue campaigning and mobilizing for the party and soliciting for our peoples vote. These are very simple things to be done and nobody would want the party to loose anything. Yes, we should learn from our mistakes in the southeast I am sure we shall continue to improve. What we had in 2015 is not what we had in 2019 in terms of results.

President Jonathan got 2.5 million votes in this region in last election Period but President Buhari got better results from what he got in 2015 and the PDP this period barely made 1.4 million votes. There is tremendous pressure on the zone and if we continue with this pressure and keep working in harmony with the national leadership of the party and that of the state we would be able to make more progress.

On his NASS leadership ambition

The former Governor said "the NASS leadership struggle is not meant for me alone, It’s not going to be my fight alone it’s going to be our fight once we are ready we are going to involve our traders, our religious leaders and some other people to first of all understand that APC is a national party and it’s a party that has the capability to cover the interest of Igbos.

"The position they are asking for is needed and legitimate to enable us move forward as a nation. If all of us sit on the floor with no one on the table. For me it is a moral thing. If fairness, justice and equity should –be followed what we are asking for is not very far from the truth so I think we should represent, truth, equity, justice and fairness.

We should also represent the diversity of the country. God has made me an Igboman and Christian and its for purpose and he has also made President Buhari a Northerner and a Muslim and it’s also for a purpose. So the purpose should be harnessed in Unity.

"I believe that once we meet with our national leadership and agree on this appeal we are making they will be able to move the party forward and I am sure by the next election the Southeast will be moving to 51, 60 to 70 % votes for the party.

My position on contesting the Senate Presidency has changed and we respect the decision of the party. Except we want to deceive ourselves the Senate President usually comes from the region that produces the President. So when you go back to history and see what it stands for you don’t need to cause more headache for the party. You need to align with the decision of the party."

Politics / 9th NASS Leadership: Abia APC Caucus Endorses Orji Kalu, Onyejeocha by meethumb: 1:11pm On Apr 29, 2019
The Abia State caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday, in Igbere, Bende LGA of the state endorsed the candidatures of Dr. Orji Uzor-Kalu and Hon. Nkiru Onyejeocha for Deputy Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives.

This is coming barely a day that the South East leadership of the party in Enugu called on the national leadership of the party to review the current sharing formula which does not favour the zone.

Speaking on the endorsement, former governor of Abia State and Senator elect for Abia North Senatorial Zone, Dr. Orji Uzor-Kalu said it will be against equity and fairness to deny South East a principal position in the 9th National Assembly.

"I think the party itself should zone the position of the Deputy Senate President to the South East because in the next four years, the only man who brought over 12 million votes alone which is President Muhammadu Buhari will not be there as candidate.

"Therefore, every contribution of all segment of this country is very vital to what we are going to do next. So, leaving the South East behind will not be good. It will be good to make everyone have sense of belonging.

"Our zone improved a lot in the last election. For me, we should always respect the leadership of our party while the leadership should also respect our view.

"It's in two ways; if you've shared and you didn't share well, include us in the sharing so that we can be able to go out there to continue to seek for peoples vote."

Speaking further, Kalu said, "The position our people are asking for is legitimate. If all of us sit on the floor and nobody is on the table, we'll not be able to invite our people to come and eat from the table, because the food will be very far from them.

"But if some Igbos are sitting on the table and our people know that we are already sitting on the table, they'll come. It is a moral thing and centres on fairness, equity and justice. So, fairness, equity and justice are to be followed, then what we are asking for is not far from the truth.

"I think we should reperesent the truth, fairness, equity and the diversity of the country that made Nigeria what it is. God has made me an Igbo man, a Christian and it is not a curse because it is for a purpose.

"God has made President Muhammadu Buhari a Northerner and a Muslim and it is also for a purpose. Let those purposes be put together for the betterment of our great country.

"So, hence we are able to come in tandem with our national leadership and agree on this appeal we are making, then we can be able to move the party forward and I'm sure by the next election, the South East will be going to give huge percentage to the party. We are speaking as a party."

Also Speaking, Hon. Nkiru Onyejeocha thanked the party caucus and all members for their support and went ahead to call for a more united Abia APC that will become a formidable force.

Onyejeocha charged the party leader, Dr. Orji Uzor-Kalu and all other stakeholders to help and ensure that every executive position in the party from ward, LGA to state level will be occupied by committed members who will stand with the party at all times.

Chairman of Abia APC caucus, Senator Chris Adighije said the adoption of Kalu and Onyejeocha is one that is popular and matches the yearnings of all people of the South East.

Adighije stated that APC should not ignore the tripod on which Nigeria stands upon and called for it to be respected by giving the South East what is due to it.

"What we just did today is the right thing to do. Abia State and the entire South East need to be encouraged based on our performance in the last election.

"I believe if we have those positions we'll do better. The adopted candidates by right, are very qualified. Nigeria is built on a tripod; former North, former East and former West and that must be respected.

"Former North has president, former West has Vice President and since we have lost the Senate President, we believe that the Deputy Senate President is our right,” he said.

Hon. Donatus Nwankpa, the APC Chairman in Abia while making his own point said that it neither Dr. Orji Uzor-Kalu nor Hon. Nkiru Onyejeocha that are seeking for the principal positions in the National Assembly.

Nwankpa said it is the collective demand of all APC members in the South East and Abia state. He therefore called on the party national leadership to see their aspirations as a regional demand from the people of South East.

Politics / VIDEO: How Police Arrested A Journalist After Radio Programme In Abia by meethumb: 6:46am On Mar 02, 2019
Obinna Don Norman, a journalist and ardent critic of the Abia State government has been arrested.

Don Norman, was arrested in Umuahia after a radio programme with Flow FM.

The journalist was declared wanted last year by the Abia State police command, over the charge of what they described as "libellous against the state government".

Prior to this, his name and picture was posted in all corners of streets in Abia, where police offered a ransom to anybody that knows his whereabouts.

Just yesterday, he was featured on a radio programme in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, after the show, the Police officers busted into the studio and arrest him. Although, his arrest may be tagged as lawful following the facts that he was declared wanted by the police, but the way, which he was arrested has been condemned by well meaning Nigerians.

Some said the police officers should have waited for him outside the gate rather than bursting into a radio station only to arrest him.
