Ojukwu saved the Igbo from extermination by the hausa/fulani/Tiv and to a lesser extent the Yoruba (willing collaborators). That alone is enough to deify him. Only an ungrateful people will do otherwise. Those asking what poverty Ojukwu has alleviated in Igboland should be reminded that Ojukwu has not been a gov, except during the war and the war time could not give an indication of how he would have faired in that regard.

Make no mistake, people, if Biafra had succeded, I believe, personally, that Ojukwu would have been a dictator of some sort, because such was the trend back then, cheking out countries like Angola, CAR among many others.

Politics / Re: Because Ojukwu Was Involved. by mekuszyx: 6:31pm On Feb 07, 2010
Ojukwu is the head of APGA. Did anyone truly expect hom to abandon his party man and campaign for another candidate? Moreover, Obi has done quite well so far and it is only fair that he completes his term. It is also instructive that Obi is the first Anambra gov to get a re-election. I had wanted Soludo to win but I guess Anambra people have spoken. Ngige has no chance to win because AC is an Yoruba party.

Exams scandal: LAUTECH suspends lecturers, recalls students from NYSC • Oyo, Osun meet on its future

Written by Idowu Adelusi and Banji Aluko

Myriads of financial and examination scandals rocking the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, have been uncovered.

Irked by the development, Sunday Tribune gathered that the institution has consequently recalled some of its affected graduates who are currently participating in the National Youth Service programme.

Four lecturers (names withheld) in the Mathematics Department allegedly awarded fictitious marks to about 100 students to enable them graduate from the department.

When the deeds of the lecturers leaked, the shocked university authority and immediately set up a committee which investigated and affirmed the scandal. The lecturers involved have been placed on suspension.

The registrar of the university wrote the Director-General of the NYSC to recall the students involved from the youth service scheme.

Similarly, two staff (names withheld), a graduate assistant and a non-teaching staff of the institution, caught tampering with students grades, have been placed on suspension.

The two staff in the Agric Economics and Extension Department allegedly collected money from some students to alter their marks and grades, while, three bursary staff, who duped the university huge sums of money, have also been placed on suspension.

Discrepancies in the bursary department were uncovered in the students’ ledger book. Investigation by the head of the unit confirmed the allegations.

The university had, since, set up a panel, while the affected staff and the students who were recalled from the NYSC will soon appear before it.

Confirming the scandals, the Vice Chancellor of LAUTECH, Professor Benjamin Babatunde Adeleke, said since there were evidences to prove that the deeds were indeed done, the affected members of staff had been placed on suspension.

He added that a panel had been set up to look into the allegations, and that the affected staff would remain on suspension until the final report of the panel is out.

The VC who stated that no system was perfect, addedthat, these things happen in every tertiary institution.

“The management won’t condone indiscipline. Our certificates are so valued, our students are doing very well, the reputation of the university is high. Anything that will tarnish the name of the school we don’t want to condone. Anybody who has violated the laid down rules will face the music.”

He confirmed that some of the students already on NYSC have been recalled to find out the truth. “They too will face the panel,” he assured.

“What is most unfortunate for the Nigerian university system today is that quite a number of people who are lecturers are not supposed to be in the university because they don’t know the dos and don’ts of the profession.

Meanwhile, the Oyo State Governor, Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala, and his Osun State counterpart Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, on Friday met to discuss the joint ownership of (LAUTECH) and the processes of handing over the institution to Oyo State .

The meeting, which also included the governing council and the management of the university, was held at the institution’s Senate chambers.

Briefing the press at the end of the meeting Governor Oyinlola disclosed that the two states have agreed to set up a joint committee to look into the issue of the continued joint ownership of the institution.

According to him, the issue at stake involved charting the way forward on the review of the joint ownership of the institution to pave way for the taking over of university by Oyo State .

“The review will be done on a brotherly basis considering the fact that the two states belong to the same family and that the issue will be resolved amicably, he stated.

Jos Crisis: Yoruba, Igbo, S-South Communities Allege Marginalisation

Written by Isaac Shobayo

The Yoruba, Igbo and south-south communities in Plateau State have frowned at the composition of the Chief Solomon Lar-led panel, set up by Vice President Goodluck Jonathan to find a lasting solution to the persistent crisis in Plateau State, saying that the panel is not all-inclusive.

The observation of the communities was that the composition was lopsided and did not embrace all the major stakeholders in the troubled Jos North Local Government Area of the state.

According to the Yoruba Community, in a statement signed by its president-general, Chief Toye Ogunshuyi, and the Oba of Yoruba, Plateau State, Chief Solomon Olugbodi, the community averred that it deserved representation in the panel, having settled in the state for over 200 years with diverse business interests.

The Yorubas, who commended Jonathan for his wisdom and vision for appointing the 15-man-committee, said they felt sidelined and marginalised for their exclusion as major stakeholders in the socio-economic and political development of the state .

“The Yoruba believe the selection or appointment of a-15-man committee under the leadership of Chief Solomon Lar is a good decision and strongly recommend that the interest of Yoruba, the Igbo and South –south communities and others be considered and included in the Federal Government committee for a permanent solution to the incessant crises in the state,” the community said.

It therefore suggested, that the 15-man committee be expanded to accomondate the interests of the Yoruba and other ethnic and tribal groups residing in the state.

An Igbo political pressure group christened ‘Igbo Democratic Forum’, in a statement signed by its national president, Chief Chidi Ndu, expressed disappointment that the composition of the panel left out the Igbo, Yoruba, south south and other ethnic groups in the state who are also major stakeholders on the Plateau.

According to the Forum, the Igbos population in Jos stands at about 300,000 with strategic business hold on the electronics, household wares, and petroleum and haulage business.

Politics / Will You (a Nigerian) Willingly Hand Over Power To Another? by mekuszyx: 2:27am On Feb 05, 2010
We have all been crying ourselves hoarse about Yaradua handing power to his VP. This is the right thing to do, constitutionally speaking? But wait a minute. How many of us, Nigerians, can do so willingly?
What did Obj do when it was time to go? Remember third term agenda
How many times did IBB dribble us in handing power back to civilians?
When Abacha was sick to death, did he agree to relinguish power?
How about Andy Uba, the 17-day gov who did all he could to nullify the Supreme Court judgement?
There are many more examples of such, even in corporate and public service
Can we, as Nigerians, be truthful to ourselves for once, that the inability/unwilingness of Yaradua to hand over is not unfamiliar and is, indeed, our collective heritage?

A yoruba man came to America several years ago and got married to an AA. They gave birth to a son (names witheld) and lived happily thereafter. After some years, the AA woman became seriously sick and the Naija man left her for another naija woman. The product of that marriage is a college student at Michigan State university. bk/babe90 are you there? grin

Staggered elections in Nigeria (such as Anambra holding it before other states) might well turn out to be the panacea to our election problems. All the arsenal of law enforcement will be amassed in that one state, bringing about a freer and fairer election than when every state is holding it simultaneously, given our limited law enforcement capability

Rigging, violence and false claims are not unexpected in Anambra election. Not when Anambra is still part of Nigeria. The only situation where I will be worried is if people are killed or gravely maimed, taking Anambra to the level of Yoruba states where people are traditionally killed at the slightest political imbroglio.

can you prove to me that the entire yoruba are juju worshippers? but i can tell you that no matter how religious an igbo man can be,he still has a small corner in his bedroom as a shrine and must travel at the end of the year to make sacrifices.

Yes. I can proooooooooove it. The fact that all your pastors, bishops, imams, politicians, students and business men do juju to survive, to the extent that they exported juju to the carribeans is a sure proof. Now tell me, what is Ogun, sango, gbomogbomo, ogboni? Tell me about Jesu of Oyingbo, about TB Joshua, about Guru maharaji, about Adeboye and the heretic accusation from Bakare. Tell me about Solarin and Soyinka (self-confessed idol worshippers), tell me about Ifa. Tell me about Yoruba women giving birth to tortoises and being pregnant for 7 years. Tell me about the kidnappers den in Osun and Ogun. Tell me about the posts I have shown here detailing Yoruba penchant for voodoo. Tell me more. Bloody illiterate

okija has a long--------standing reputation in juju considering the calibre of men patronising the shrine.
The entire Yoruba has a longstanding history of juju. Ogbono, gbomogbomo and those Ogun house member naked photos in shrines are just few examples.
