RSG Suspends Principal Over Illegal Fees

Rivers State Government has suspended the Principal of Government Secondary school, Borikiri, Mr. Ella Ewoh for collecting money from 61 external students in place of the bonifade students, thereby denying the legitimate students the opportunity to write their examinations.
Speaking to newsmen during monitoring of the on going Senior Secondus School Examination in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Prof Chinedu Mmom added that the suspension would serve as deterrent to others.
He explained that the Rivers State Government, under the administration of Governor Nyesom Wike, has paid all WAEC fees for students both indigenes and non-indigenes, adding that any Principal caught collecting money in any form will face the full wrath of the law.
“Information reaching me is that some schools, the Principals and some of the staff forced the students to pay certain money for what I do not know, this is illegal and we frown at that. Any principal, any supervisor, any invigilator, any teacher that is caught will be shown the way out.
“I want to re-emphasise that students are not to pay any money to be admitted into any examination hall. The examination hall has been paid for by the Rivers State Government, so, we are sending our people to monitor this examination across the State on daily basis, so, any person or group of persons that are culprits will be handed over to security agencies, so they are disciplined according to the law,” Mmom said.
The commissioner while encouraging students to remain focused and committed to their studies, and work hard said, there is no short cut to success.
“I started the way you are today, but today, I am a Professor and the commissioner for Education and I am sure some of you want to be Commissioner in the state as time goes on, but know that there is no short cut, so all that is expected of you is to work very hard. I encourage you to study very assiduously, do your assignments and read your books.”
The Tide reports that the schools visited included Government Girls Secondary School, Rumueme, Community Secondary School, Oroworukwo and Model Secondary School, G.R.A., Port Harcourt.

PORT HARCOURT – SIR Siminalayi Fubara, Governor-elect of Rivers State has assured Rivers civil servants of a cordial relationship and due benefits in the task of moving the state forward.


In his 2023 Workers Day message Sunday ahead of the celebrations on Monday, Fubara said as a civil servant himself before running for governor, he understands the feelings of the state workers and would be committed to their needs and welfare.

The Governor in the statement by his Media Assistant, Bon Onyedi said, “As a Civil Servant, I was part of you and will always remain so. I will always identify with you and work with you to improve the system.


“Although no society can adequately pay for your sacrifices and loyalty to the state and the nation, I will ensure that you get the right benefits.


“There is dignity in labour, so you ought to carry on with diligence and dedication as usual because excellence will be rewarded.”

Field functionaries at the LGA level would be trained for 12days. 7days for building numbering and household listing and 5 days for enumeration of persons. Fieldwork would be for 10days, 5 days for building numbering and household listing, and 5 days for enumeration of persons. As it stands, census would not hold as initially planned for 2nd to 7th of May. It will be moved by 2weeks, but it will still hold before the swearing in of the new government to power

The so-called pay rise is in the ALLOWANCES and not in the BASIC SALARIES, thus is to show you that government is wicked.

It is better to have a pay rise in your salary than your aloowances, thus is because allowances can be withdrawn by Goverment or not even paid at all, but salary cannot, and salary is what is used in your pension calculations not allowances.

Government is wicked ooo! Federal government may implement, I don't truat state (rivers state) to implement it. After all rivers state is not paying minimum wage. Correct me if I'm wrong.

This pay rise may be for federal civil servants not for states. Government increases teachers retirement age but up till now, states have not done anything about it.

The Federal Government, 36 States, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and 774 Local Government Areas of the country, shared N722.677 billion in February as allocated by the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC).


This was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) meeting for March 2023 in Abuja yesterday.

The N722.677 billion total distributable revenue comprised distributable statutory revenue of N366.800 billion, distributable Value Added Tax (VAT) revenue of N224.232 billion, Electronic Money Transfer Levy(EMTL) of N11.645 billion and N120.000 billion Augmentation from Forex Equalisation Account.

In February 2023,, the total deductions for cost of collection was N27.449 billion and total deductions for transfers, savings, recoveries and refunds was N109.909 billion.


The balance in the Excess Crude Account (ECA) was $473,754.57

The communiqué confirmed that from the total distributable revenue of N722.677 billion; the Federal Government received N269.063 billion, the State Governments received N236.464 billion and the Local Government Councils received N173.936 billion. A total sum of N43.214 billion was shared to the relevant States as 13 per cent derivation revenue.

Gross statutory revenue of N487.106 billion was received for the month of February 2023. This was lower than the sum of N653.704 billion received in the previous month by N166.598 billion.

From the N366.800 billion distributable statutory revenue, the Federal Government received N178.683 billion, the State Governments received N90.630 billion and the Local Government Councils received N69.872 billion. The sum of N27.614 billion was shared to the relevant States as 13 per cent derivation revenue.


For the month of February 2023,, the gross revenue available from the Value Added Tax (VAT) was N240.799 billion This was lower than the N250.009 billion available in the month of January 2023 by N9.210 billion.

The Federal Government received N33.635 billion, the State Governments received N112.116 billion and the Local Government Councils received N78.481 billion from the N224.232 billion distributable Value Added Tax (VAT) revenue.


The N11.645 billion Electronic Money Transfer Levy (EMTL) was distributed as follows: the Federal Government received N1.747 billion, the State Governments received N5.822 billion, the Local Government Councils received N4.076 billion.

From the N120 billion Augmentation, the Federal Government received N54.998 billion, the State Governments received N27.896 billion, the Local Government Councils received N21.506 billion and a total sum of N15.600 billion was shared to the relevant States as 13 per cent mineral revenue.

According to the communiqué, in the month of February 2023, Petroleum Profit Tax (PPT), Companies Income Tax (CIT), Oil and Gas Royalties, Import and Excise Duties all decreased significantly while Value Added Tax (VAT) and Electronic Money Transfer Levy (EMTL) decreased marginally.

My principal went to my zonal director, took and photocopied the form, gave to us(me and my colleagues, then we submitted it back to him.
He in turn by 1:00pm submitted back to the zonal office.

Barring any further extensions, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reached a decision to postpone Saturday’s governorship and state assembly elections to March 18, 2023,

the postponement was due to the commission’s inability to promptly commence reconfiguration of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines utilized during the February 25 presidential election to enable their use in the state elections.

INEC was earlier restrained from tampering with the information embedded in the BVAS machines until due inspection was conducted and Certified True Copies (CTC) issued to candidates who are challenging the outcome of the presidential election.
