Romance / Re: I Told My Naija Parents I Don't Want To Get Married And This Was Their Response by Melonny(m): 4:30pm On May 26, 2023
siofra:
So, I told my parents I don't want to get married. I do not recommend telling your Nigerian parents you don't want to get married😹

My mom put her hand on her head and looked at me with pity lol. She said I don't have a goal in life, she said I'm empty.

My father was even more dramatic. He started praying o. He told me to kneel down and starting casting and binding all the evil spirits and his village people.

Ngl, it was hilarious. It's not like I don't want to get married though, I just wanted to see their reactions.

But why can't parents accept that not everyone wants to follow the way they did things? That I don't want a husband doesn't mean something is wrong with me and I won't be lonely because I plan on having 29 cats, a dozen goats and scores of chickens.

Some of the things we quickly attribute to God are done by our fellow humans, who put in their blood and sweats to achieve them, but get no credit in the end, unfortunately.
Don't mind them. It is always twins. I didn't know of this IVF thing until I audited a specialist hospital. Things dey happen o.

Heffalump:
Naira is still among the worst currencies of the world.
Those beating their chest about Ghana, their currency is still far stronger than Nigerian naira.

How can you compare yourself with a country whose currency exchanges at less than 13 cedi to 1$ and you, who has almost $750 to the dollar? We are not mate to Ghana at all.
Consider political stability, security, social amenities, trade and tourism (Nigerians trooping to Ghana for foreign training like Dubai). Nigeria is still learning and coming from a distance behind.
See the truth and say it. period

You are as dumb and weak as the Ghana Cedis.. You have to read more.

Since Tinubu and more recently, his street urchins, are now omnipresent, it must be them.
They must have traveled from Idumota to go wreck havoc in Anambra.

Largely our Govt is irresponsible, a case in point is the non patronage of our own cars: Innoson, Dangote Peugeot. China took this ISI approach and they are better for it today.
We are still new to it. This is the reason I want continuity of Govt. I believe Buhari may not have done badly in this aspect. Getting someone else will stop all these, we have suffered for 7 years for this, and defeating terrorism will further help us to grow agriculture. Once we can sustain ourselves, prices of products will drop.
For Innoson, I believe they only assemble here.. The main materials are bought from overseas.. The cars are too costly

I am really just curious as to "why can't we just print more money and solve the poverty problem in the country?"

Terms like "inflation" and the "devaluing of the naira" are the usual buzz answers to that question. Also, people give the example that if we were to print more money and just give everyone N5,000,000 for example, then everyone would go out and buy things, thus making "THINGS" more scarce and in short supply and hence driving up the prices of things (simple demand/supply economics). But herein lies the catch for me... With TRUE unemployment rate somewhere around 33% in the country, if DEMAND for "THINGS" rose, then I would think that companies would WANT to hire more people and build more processing plants to keep up with demand and raise their profits. So, the influx of cash (printed money) would seem to solve the unemployment problem.

Again, we have agencies that regulates pricing in the economy: PPPRA, Price Control Board (Ministry of Commerce) etc, with those, can't the likely over pricing of commodities (THINGS) be controlled and gazetted to avoid the story of "too much money chasing fewer goods"?

In the final analysis, a robust and health competitive economy would have been created and underemployment issues largely solved.

Economists and Analysts lets discuss?
Printing more money will not solve the problem. In fact, prices will continue to increase. Let's analyse the cause of Nigeria's inflation. I know sure two things contributed to this..
1) We are too import dependent, we import literally everything. Some days ago, I saw a term on Twitter and I decided to read more about this - Import substitution industrialisation (ISI). ISI is generally stopping the importation of the products we can produce, produce in-house, sustain ourselves and export. To a very large extent, this is the policy Buhari Govt has adopted.
Under ISI, the country looks to more exportation cheaper and importation more expensive. For example, you will see that the Govt shut down the land borders, the devalue the Naira. When you devalue a currency, it is weakened compared to other currencies, someone in the USA may be able to buy a product in Nigeria at a cheap price because Naira is weak. Devaluing the Naira makes us more competitive globally. With this, we can start exporting our product.
Going back to my point, with the Govt frustrating all efforts buy foreign goods, devaluing the Naira in an attempt to stop importation, importing any product is now very expensive because of the weakened Naira. Since we don't produce many of the things we consume in-house.

Sorry to sound like a killjoy about your tax-free "enjoyment", but what your Company is doing is tax evasion and they will pay it all back if they are audited by this revenue-aggressive administration.

Your initial 50% is supposed to be taxed as it is not exempt. But your company is smart to exclude it from the pension calculation base in order to reduce the amount of their financial contribution to your old age by half. So they are actually doing themselves a favour reducing their cost of keeping you in employment while you also get to chop part of your old age money now, making it look like a win-win.

Smart management grin
Yeah. You are right. We are a firm of Chartered Accountants. I have tried to opt in for the normal way, but the company's policy won't change because of one person.
I would rather the big tax now and enjoy the benefits later.

Great, then I like it.

I once worked at an org where salaries were paid twice a month to curb the excessive begging and incessant complaints of some staff about being broke.

For example if you earned 120k, you would get 40% of that on the 14th and 60% at month end, on the 28th or so. I thought it was cool because it kept me liquid and you know middle of the month na when salary earners dey broke pass.

Yet, we still had people burning through cash and complaining before the month ends.

They do this where I work presently. 50% half of the month, 50% at month end. The only issue is the Pension, the first 50% is not treated as a salary. PAYE and Pension remittances will be calculated on the second payment. The benefit is that the employee will pay tax on 50% of his/her salary while the pension will be lower than it should (8% plus 10%) of the 50% salary will be paid as Pension.

NW and NE... watch out how LP go splite vote of PDP and NNPP.
So you think Ondo, Ogun, Oyo and Osun won't vote Tinubu? He would get at least 80% of all the votes in Southwest states. Don't get it twisted. LP won't get up to 5% of all the votes in Southwest.

You shouldn't lower your intelligence simply because you want to defend a blockhead like Bobrisky.
What you are talking about is a mortgage, not a lease.

I know my shit. I don't care if you don't like Bob. Don't talk shit when you don't know what you are talking about.
Bob has should recognised the asset as his own because of the reasons I gave above.

The asset will not his own if the asset is low value. 450 million is high value.
If the lease term is less than 12 months, this will be a rent. Bob cannot recognise the assets
If the term is more the 12 months. Bob will recognise the asset and responsibility
Celebrities / Re: Nigerians Drag Bobrisky Over His N450M Mansion Document He Shared (pix) by Melonny(m): 11:19am On Jun 10, 2022
Has the risk and reward passed to Bob?
How many years is the lease gonna take, If he is leasing the property for the most useful life of the house, then the house is for Bob.
who bears the repair and maintenance?
It is probably that Bob will buy the property after the lease term, then, the house is for Bob.

If the answer to the question is Yes, for Bob. Then, Control has passed to Bob.
He will pay monthly installment and interest for the lease term.

Deserve how? Nigerians accused Tinubu of being entitled, making statements like 'deserve' is a show of entitlement. The last time I checked, there are 6 geopolitical zones in Nigeria. North central and Southeast have not produced a president. Northcentral should also be given a shot at it.
Every region needs to work for it. The southeast has always sided with PDP over time. Strangely, PDP would not give the ticket to the southeast.

There are too many wack stories there... especially from season 2 and season 3...
Only few stories in those seasons are actually worth watching

Just watch episodes 1,2 and 9 of season 3
I downloaded and watched season 1 yesterday, after seeing high reviews here. I am disappointed with the storyline. Each episode had a different storyline, I was thinking every episode is gonna link or makes sense towards the end.
The only episode that makes sense to me is the Milk (diary) episode. It got me thinking. I have download season 2 sha.

That is the problem I have with most Nigerian movies. We have been complaining of poor filming and average scripting , now they are doing quality filming and very poor scripting.

They should take a clue from bling lagosians' a combination of quality filming and scripting: in same film Alex(actor), was even trying to market his on film using well known comic actors against the wish of his client (female) who wanted something a bit classy... All this happening in a classy movie; and same time, the casters would eventually go back to their native languages when serious pressing issues arise. grin The director deserves an award.
I feel that the writer or the director ain't interested in making quality films. They just wanna cast big names, beautiful faces and fine locations.
They should seek expert opinions before and during the production process. Maybe a retired police officer or anybody in that line would have provided expert advice on how to act the scenes. Maybe studying the internal controls in various hotels would have helped.
They need to do more, they should research more.

The thing wey pain me is that, the writer or the producer tried to blame their incompetence on the corrupt Police department and the hotel security guy.

I am rating this low jare. Maybe a 3/10, I am not impressed. I totally like the lead characters, but the storyline gets as it be.
How can you murder someone in one of the most expensive hotels in Nigeria the CCTV didn't capture the act?

- I have not been to many hotels, but I remember the security checks at the gate and the metal detector at the Sheraton hotel at Ikeja. In the movie, it was so easy to get a gun into the event hall undetected.

- How did they get the shovels into the hotel? The story didn't give an account of this.

Dem just dey show girl power all through.
