@smedlab
My apologies for the late reply.Yes,I am familiar with Toonboom Animate Pro.At the momment,I am quite busy as soon as I am done,I will get in touch.Btw,I checked out the link.Really very nice concepts,characters and world.

My latest animations-

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jl4euIROGn0
Used Maya viewport 2.0 to render.Render Time- about 3 minutes.

Using Blender's game engine is really fun.What Blender needs to do is make their animation tools on par with Maya.

I use Adobe Flash,Toonboom Animate Pro,Photoshop for my 2d animations depending on the graphics look I am going for.
3D,mostly Maya for animating,rigging,modeling,uvmapping,lighting,rendering.After Effect for compositing/post processing.Mudbox for details/normal maps/texturing.

New upload-
Decided to re render the 13 vs 7 animation I did with new music I composed using Flstudio.

Btw,if u sent me an e-mail concerning animation related stuff.Pls,kindly send it again.In the process of deleting spam,unneccesary and junk emails(very annoying),I deleted some important ones.I will try to make out time to read them.Again,PLS no spam e-mails.
Thanks.

Art, Graphics & Video / Re: Chicken Core: The Rise Of Kings - Nigeria's 1st Animated Short Film by melvi: 3:17am On Nov 26, 2012
I am very proud of this.I am an animator myself and I must say this probably wasn't easy,drawing the frames,coloring and composition.Must have taken a long time.I am guesing u used Toonboom or Flash?The chicken designs are also similar to african warriors head gears and attires.
Well done.Maybe,u could add slow motion fight scenes,smoke and fireballs.I am guessing that will come with future episodes.
This is what happens when a team works on a project,the overall quality is better.
I liked and faved u guys on youtube.Looking forward to new episodes.
Art, Graphics & Video / Re: How To Make Blinking Text On A Picture by melvi: 11:18pm On Nov 11, 2012
U could use After effects,Photoshop(yep..Photoshop has an animation window),Sony Vegas,Adobe Premiere,and lastly but not least,Windows movie maker which comes with windows vista,xp,
Art, Graphics & Video / Re: How Is The Animation Market In Nigeria by melvi: 11:13pm On Nov 11, 2012
The awesome thing about 2d animation is that u would not require a high end CPU with crazy specs.All u require are good drawing skills,a drawing software,some idea of how movement works(which will improve with practice) and a graphics tablet,especially Wacom tablets.Although one could use a cintiq which is good but it's expensive.Just start with Photoshop or Flash.They don't require high specs.A basic laptop with a good color screen should do but u have to have a lot of patience cause it takes time.

3D is divided into different categories.U have modeling,uvmapping,texturing,rigging(kinda technical,has to do with setting up constriants,driven keys,expressions,nodes e.t.c especially with setting up custom rigs),animation,lighting,rendering and post processing.It isn't easy to master all categories.Most ppl pick one category and work on improving their skills in that area.Most times,generalist usually have categories where they excel and are good at and areas where they are not so good.Thats why 3d animations done solo normally suffer from this.U might see a 3d animation work done with superb animation,rigging is great,models are okay but the lighting is not so good,or post processing wasn't done.
I think if studios are more available here and there are teams working on a project,the final output will look better and require lesser time because where one team member may not be good at,another might be good in.

Thanks,caporegime.Sorry for the late reply.I use a wacom intuos 3 tablet.Its the best brand as far as tablets go.I have used Flash,toonboom,photoshop,After Effects and RetasPro for animations and each of them have their stong features and not so cool features.For now,I am using Retas Pro Paintman and After Effects.

Take care.

Hello guys,been very busy with work.
@sam_hendrickson
So sorry for the late reply.I am too occupied at the moment to do some freelance.I am working on a project but if there are professional projects like adverts that require 2d animation and the pay is attractive,I might be able to work on it at my spare time.Music videos are gonna take too long to animate whereas adverts are pretty short like less than a minute.

Btw here is my latest animation testing different 2d animation apps:

Take care all.
Art, Graphics & Video / Cpu Power Supply? by melvi: 5:04pm On Dec 05, 2011
My present powerbox got fried and I took it to a repair dude who is recommending a 220 volts powerbox for my CPU.My CPU has a quad core processor with an Nividia 9500 GT graphics card and the motherboard can be upgraded to 16 GB(has 4GB presently).Isn't the power capacity of the box supposed to be higher?
Another problem is before it got fried by regular power supply.Whenever I switched on my generator,it goes off,in otherwords my gen can't carry it and it carries my tv,laptop,other stuff.I have even switched only the CPU alone while everything is off.Same problem.I am thinking maybe 400 watts power box is what I need?

@AdamuW.

Do you guys use ToonBoom for your animations?I am learning ToonBoom at the moment and I gather its the new industry standard with series like Fantastic Four,Avatar and some others.

I am working on a fan animation of Dead Fantasy.

You can see my animations here-

Great work with Bino & Fino.It looks like cutout animation with animated bones.I am more into frame by frame.I am thinking of starting something soon with African superheros stuff.
Art, Graphics & Video / Re: If You Ever Doubted Blender: Watch This: by melvi: 1:11pm On Aug 15, 2011
Watch The Making of Sintel on youtube.They went through a lot of difficulties making that film that they had to cut the film to about 14 mins but the movie was awesome.
With the artists using Blender for the movie,the software developers were able to add new features and improve on the capabilities of the software from feedback and recomendations by the Sintel Project team.

I asked some guys at the The Area's Forums and the feedback I am getting are negative.That even after using the hotfix 2 from the Autodesk website.They have been no improvements.

So you are not having any problems with it?
Art, Graphics & Video / Does Maya 2012 Have Serious Bugs? by melvi: 6:04pm On Jun 06, 2011
Hello,

I wanted to ask if Maya 2012 has serious bugs especially with dynamics simulation,ncloth,particles and modelling,among others.Is it worth getting over 2011??
Art, Graphics & Video / Re: 2d Animators Thread. by melvi: 4:44pm On May 22, 2011
New animation I did 2 weeks ago.There are some wobbly movements.That won't be happening next time.I really enjoyed animating the motorcycle part though.Working on a fight scene in my spare time and no wobbliness!!!I think I was trying to be fast and by the time,I realized the wobbliness!!,I had already coloured the frames.Redoing it was gonna take time ya.

Art, Graphics & Video / Re: 2d Animators Thread. by melvi: 3:52pm On Apr 22, 2011
You guys seem to forget there is cloth movement as well.I do agree there is a lot of wind movement in my animations and I think I should dull it down.When I animate,I always feel there should be some sort of movement,even when I showing a camera shot or scenario and damn, is it time consuming.I think I am gonna chop down on wind.Hen, he.

Is just this particular scene,there is bound to be wind and Final Fantasy games especially their scenes,there is always free flowing hair and cloth movement.Advent Children for example.

In a lot of animes,hair and clothes movements are used to keep a camera cut interesting or to keep the eye busy or else it will come across as lazy or boring.
@xothermik
Yeah, I am really working on that,trying to maintain volume and shape across frames.I think that's something you start to perfect after getting animation principles down like how to create movements across frames at a particular frame rate and how may frames you need to make a movement fast or slow.

Working on a new animation.I am using Flash CS5.There is wind movement but really mild.I must say Flash is awesome.

Thanks for the replies guys.

xothermik,Have you ever heard of RETAS Pro?
Art, Graphics & Video / Re: 6th Hokage Naruto Fan Animation by melvi: 3:36pm On Dec 31, 2010
Really impressed with what you came up with.That stick figure looks cool.I prefer the frame by frame animation box in Photoshop though.You can convert timeline to frame by frame animation.Makes arranging layers with reference to frames easier as well as timing.
In truth,other apps might seem easier but Photoshop has a coloring and effects advantage,though some people like using After effects for effects like rain,snow but Photoshop teaches you how to make these effects yourself so one can manipulate effects manually.Like I can create rain,snow,fire,someone controlling water with Photoshop and it looks good.

I did gather that Naruto and Bleach were animated with Photoshop,sometimes even traditionally for certain scenes.Imagine animating in another app say like up to 77 frames,and exporting the frames one by one before colouring.It sounds cumbersome.You have to paint backgrounds in Photoshop and then import into another app and then you find out the background needs to be made longer due to the fact that you have to tween its movement from left to right.Little things like this can be frustrating, so why not just use a software that lets you paint awesomely and animate awesomely,

I completely agree with you though,it really comes down to personal preference.
Art, Graphics & Video / Re: 6th Hokage Naruto Fan Animation by melvi: 5:44pm On Dec 29, 2010
There is an animation window in Photoshop which is frame by frame or can be converted to timeline format if you have the extended version.It has a play button, Most people are not familiar with this window cause they use Photoshop for picture editing,painting,airbrushing and graphics works.Thats what makes it way awesomer for animations cause if you are familiar with its powerful graphics capabilities your animations will look way better than most of these softwares which may be good for animations but don't  give the animator powerful graphical options/features.
Art, Graphics & Video / Re: 6th Hokage Naruto Fan Animation by melvi: 7:19pm On Dec 27, 2010
Thanks xothermik.

Yep,anime style cause its easier and faster.I am working on a new one based on final fantasy xiii.I did have inbetween frames but should have created more frames.I will be working with 0.1 timing for each frame in Photoshop CS3 since I can now colour frames faster.This will make my animations run smoother.
