The hebrew word for heavens is shawmahyim and it literally translates to heaven, heavens, sky, visible heavens, sky as abode of the stars
as the visible universe, the sky, atmosphere, etc

Because shawmahyim is all encompassing, its difficult to translate it to English so English translators try to use the next best words to explain it and they often fall short.

the universe. In addition, the bible states that
god created the sun, moon and stars (i.e. past
tense) when science has proven that the
universe is currently growing therefore more
planetary bodies are being created.
