basedonbelieff: The hourly minimum wage in Nigeria stands at $0.22, a stark contrast to the US’s hourly minimum wage of $12. That is 60 times more!
The naira equivalent of the monthly minimum wage in the US is about 1.8million naira as against the miserly 30,000 naira in Nigeria
While certain African foods can be quite expensive, they are often consumed less frequently. Conversely, non-African foods such as Milk and Chicken are relatively affordable, especially when viewed in light of a minimum wage comparison.
Fuel pricing further emphasizes this disparity. In the US, fuel costs approximately $1.024 per litre, which roughly translates to around 900 Naira. On the contrary, fuel in Nigeria is priced at 617 Naira. Despite the higher fuel cost in the US, when aligning it with monthly minimum wages, a significant
let me break down the comparative analysis step by step:
**Comparative Analysis of Fuel Prices and Minimum Wages: US vs. Nigeria**
**Fuel Price Ratio:
We're looking at how much it costs to buy fuel compared to how much people earn as minimum wage in the US and Nigeria.
**Comparative Analysis of Fuel Prices and Minimum Wages: US vs. Nigeria**
**Fuel Price Ratio:** In the United States, the cost of fuel stands at approximately $1.024 per litre, equivalent to approximately 900 Naira based on the exchange rate of 1 USD to 900 NGN. In Nigeria, the fuel price is around 617 Naira per litre.
**Minimum Wage Comparison:** Comparing minimum wages, the United States boasts an hourly minimum wage of $12, while Nigeria's hourly minimum wage is approximately $0.22, or 188 Naira.
**Calculating Proportions:** In the United States, the proportion of the hourly minimum wage required to purchase fuel is computed as follows: Fuel Price / Hourly Minimum Wage = $1.024 / $12 ≈ 0.085 (or 8.5%)
In Nigeria, the proportion of the hourly minimum wage expended on fuel translates as: Fuel Price / Hourly Minimum Wage = 617 Naira / 188 Naira ≈ 3.28 (or 328%)
Interpretation: The analysis underscores a stark contrast between the two countries. In the United States, fuel costs account for roughly 8.5% of the hourly minimum wage, reflecting a moderate impact on individuals’ budgets. This indicates that someone earning the minimum wage in the US can reasonably expect to allocate a relatively small portion of their earnings to cover fuel expenses.
In contrast, the situation in Nigeria portrays a significantly higher proportion, with fuel costs amounting to an astonishing 328% of the hourly minimum wage. To put it simply, someone earning the minimum wage in Nigeria has to dedicate more than three times their hourly wage solely to afford the same amount of fuel. This glaring difference underscores the disparity in the purchasing power of individuals between the two countries.
This discrepancy in the proportions of 328% and 8.5% serves as a vivid representation of the financial challenges faced by individuals in Nigeria when it comes to covering fuel expenses. Such a stark difference in the burden of fuel costs relative to earnings highlights the urgency of addressing the affordability of fuel in Nigeria and seeking ways to mitigate this substantial economic discrepancy.
The analysis serves as a foundation for comprehending the intricate relationship between fuel prices, minimum wages, and their consequential effects on individuals’ economic well-being. It highlights the pertinent consideration that the affordability of fuel extends beyond its nominal price, as it intersects with the earning capacity of individuals within each respective nation. Chai, na on top someone's price of Titus fish you come write this long Economic treatise on fuel comparative analysis? Who go read am? If man pikin no fit buy fuel for his car, mek him take keke napep go where he wan go. Shikena! |

Rivers State Local Government Election:
Things to note:
■ No security agency participated. ■ No INEC voters' register. ■ All electoral materials; sensitive and non sensitive, were distributed from Rivers State government House. ■ APP sponsored 23 local government chairmanship candidates and 319 councillorship candidates. LP and YPP sponsored about 30 percent of the required candidates for the 23 local government areas and 319 wards. ■ The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission conducted elections in 2,405 polling units out of the total 6,866 polling units. Yet they declared winners in all wards and local government areas. ■ No use of BVAS ■ RSIEC recruited all adhoc staff from a list submitted by Governor Fubara. ■ Governor Fubara moved all electoral materials; sensitive and non sensitive to the Rivers State government House. And distributed all materials through the APP Chairmanship candidates. ■ The voters didn't use any voter's card to cast their votes. ■ Rivers State has 6,866 polling units. Out of the 2,405 polling units where elections were conducted, the average voter turnout was 8 voters per polling unit. This gives an average of 19,204 voters who voted in the election. Recall Rivers State has 3,215,273 registered voters. ■ No accreditation. ■ No ward and LGA collations. ■ No electronic transmission of results.
And I hear intelligent Nigerians, including Dele Momodu and Atiku Abubakar's aide, say the local government election in Rivers State was the best in the history of this country.
I therefore wish to call the attention of our National Assembly to adopt Governor Fubara's model as strict amendments to the electoral act. And ensure INEC implements it in the 2027 general elections.

casualobserver: My friend the question I ask you is can you read? Do you understand English? I keep saying what I have said numerous times many Nigerians speak English but do not understand English.
Because of people like you who lack English comprehension, I specifically said take away the fame and fortune. instead you are here talking about billions…is that the issue? It is always one scandal or the other from the family and actions unbecoming of a family with such pedigree.
And by the way I know more about the family than you do. If you go through my post visitors I have talked about his grandfather and his uncles.
I said the same thing recently about the Abiola family with all their airing dirty linen in public. Fame success and riches is not the same thing as good upbringing…..that is the subject of discussion not how successful a family is. We are not discussing a family’s success or pedigree we are speaking to upbringing. That is what wizkid is speaking to.
Go for a refresher course in. English and read again!
We are talking about character and upbringing anll you’ve done is talk about billions. Isn’t that what I said that money clouds your judgement? The family is full of examples of broken homes, multiple wives, failed marriages, children outside wedlock etc etc this is what wizkid is talking about…not money! I know everything to you and your generation is money!
What you have posted about the family is what is in the public domain everybody knows about their financial and political history. Go and do some research about the family’s less public issues. When are you going to talk about your own family, beginning from your great grandfathers from both sides? Enough of delving into other people's dirty closets, we are curious about knowing your own family history too. |

We would have been far far better off...
Is it only Nigeria this COVID 19 affected?
But look at other countries at same level with Nigeria, they bounced back almost immediately after the COVID 19 pandemic lockdown ended recording high GDP growth rates of 6 - 9% per annum, while your country was still struggling and crawling between negative GDP growth rate minus (-1%) and 1.5%.
As we speak APC still tanking our GDP down to 250b Dollars from 500+ billion dollars when PDP left and you still have mouth to talk. Though everybody is suffering the economic pain we are going through now, but let the truth be told. Nigeria can no longer sustain the heavy petroleum subsidy regime when Tinubu took over. Also neither could it continue to maintain the double foreign currency exchange rates, which politicians, crony businessmen and other criminals in and out of government were misusing to loot and undermine the nation's economy. The nation was almost bankrupt through successive treasury brigandage by our rulers and their criminal agents over many decades. The country could no more fulfil his immediate and future financial obligations to other nations and financial entities by the time Buhari was leaving, and which was becoming embarrassing. So from which source do you expect Tinubu to see funds to run the country without borrowing and enforcing the current economical actions of tight subsidy removal and foreign currency realignment regime? We are far, far away from being productive because our power infrastructures are in tatters, which if in order, could have helped us by the government heavily assisting strategic companies to ramp up production. We are all in economic funk, and we will be so for a long time, unless a political guru (which is not Tinubu) arrives on stage to hastily and forcefully correct all the anomalies in economic management and governance in the country. |
