Simply visit South Eastern states and compare with other states.

Minus the places heavy with Federal Government presence (Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt)

The only partly developed place in the East is Onitsha which is not more than 4 GRAs in Ibadan.
Only Ibadan city is more developed than the entire Igboland...fact.

Politics / FG Promises N36m As Four Scientists Present Solutions To COVID-19. by mercyville: 3:38pm On Mar 08, 2020
FG promises N36m as four scientists present solutions to COVID-19
ON MARCH 8, 2020.

By Therese Nanlong
Following the promise of N36m by the federal Ministry of Science and Technology to any scientist who is able to find not just a cure but a better way of managing the Coronavirus and Lassa fever, four scientists in the country have laid claim to having solutions to the ravaging diseases.

The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu disclosed this at the weekend in Jos.

Speaking on the sideline of the National Youth Summit of the Middle Belt Youth Council where he delivered a keynote address, the Minister stated the claims have been handle over top the Nigerian Academy of Science where a standing Committee has been set up to assess all the claims.

Dr. Onu stressed Nigerians are highly intellectual people with capacity to proffer solutions to world problems hence the need to motivate the scientists to give their best in their researches.

According to him, “I have had occasion to travel round and met with many people, I am convinced that Nigeria has some of the most intelligent people in the world, when we have problems, I don’t want us to be looking at others for solutions. We should look inward for Nigerians that can solve the problems so we looked at the budget of the Ministry and decided to encourage our scientists and motivate them.

“We are very serious, so far, we have received about four scientists who sent information that they have what they believe can lead to a cure. The Nigerian Academy of Science has a committee of the very best in this area that can assess the claims, it is not us at the Ministry that will look at it, the Academy would subject the claim scrutiny and analysis.

“If there are problems in the world, we must make contributions, I am sure all of us would be proud if the cure for these diseases comes from Nigeria.”

I can see where you are going. If we remove subsides, fuel price would be high..and we would suffer.

Sorry, but it is time we removed fuel subsides.

You can't do that without...

1.Removing subsides, because no one is going to refine fuel at a high cost, and then sell it at N140...below cost.
2.Making NNPC a truly private company, not the government slush fund it is right now.

Again, subsides have to go. Otherwise, the profit won't be there to pay for repairs. People sabotage the refienreis because it benefits them. If NNPC was private, sabotage would affect the profits it could make...and thus would be clampred down on.

Not wiothout subsides gone, they won't. Again, no one is going to refine fuel, and sell it at a loss, as would happen under a subsidy.

Okay

Only if you let the local refiners sell at their price, not at government controlled price...which is what subsidy would cause.

But of course.

That's why subsidy has to go. If the APC government is sincere, it has to take that hard decision. So that the corruption around it ends, and we benenfit long term

We are surely on the same page.

Gnaeusmagnus:

The thing is GEJ was trying to take steps to make it less of a paper economy...by removing fuel subsides

If we had removed fuel subsides in 2012...the savings could have been used for better economic growth, and the jobs and investment would have been created well well.

Nigerians said no, and we got stuck throwng money down a big hole.

Also, the borrowing we were doing was largely because the oil price was not high enough to sustain Nigeria...even when prices were as high as $120 per barrel.

That's why Nigeria needs leaders who can get us off oil...and on the way to a manufacturing economy producing things whose prices, we control.

I support the removal of subsidies too but you know what?,it will creep back because we have no control of the price of international oil.

Firstly, government should develop the political will to put appropriate machineries in place to rehabilitate the nation’s four refineries, so that they can produce optimally to meet domestic demands.

Secondly, those sabotaging efforts at revamping the refineries should be prosecuted and shown the way out of the petroleum industry.

Thirdly, government should encourage local investors to establish modular refineries to complement the four refineries.

A body should be set up to monitor and regulate the modular refineries to ensure that they operate within set guidelines.

With this in place, government should then place a ban on importation of refined petroleum products and encourage exportation of surplus refined petroleum products.

If this were done, there would be enough petroleum products at cheaper pump price for Nigerians. Interestingly, this would also bring about job creation for unemployed youths.

At this point, it must be stated that subsidy is not usually adopted as a permanent solution to economic problems.

Rather, it is a temporary or short-term measure, aimed at cushioning economic hardship.

It is quite unfortunate that in Nigeria, it appears government had adopted subsidy as a permanent solution to the problem of scarcity and high cost of petroleum products, thereby completely neglecting the nation’s four refineries.

It should be realised that the longer subsidy regime lasts, the more harm it does to the economy.

This is so because investors and importers of the products will take undue advantage of the situation to control the market and rip off the people for their selfish interest.

This is the current situation with petroleum subsidy in Nigeria. The earlier it is dealt with, the better for Nigeria and Nigerians.

What you presented is only a part of the reality of the situation at the time.

As at 2012, the US, which was the largest importer of Nigeria's crude had cut imports by more than 60%. By 2014, this had dropped to almost 0%.

https://www.africaresource.com/rasta/sesostris-the-great-the-egyptian-hercules/obama-stops-buying-nigerias-oil/

Mind you, of the about 1.7mbpd that Nigeria produced at the time, about 1.3mbpd was purchased by the US...

So contrary to the misconception thrown around about the squandering of the oil boom by GEJ, the high oil prices actually had the reverse.

Also, with oil prices at over $100pb, GEJ still had to keep fuel prices under N100 & the exchange rate under N200 all the while still making Nigeria the largest economy in Africa & one of the fastest growing in the world.

GEJ had his faults, no doubt. But people should do deeper research of issues so as to have a better understanding of matters.

Fastest growing economy that was borrowing money to pay workers, foreign reserve down and recession creeping in

It was all paper economy.

Aunty Ngozi making us proud again! smiley

They should get Soludo on board as well!

Okonjo Iweala put Nigeria in recession while Kemi got Nigeria out within 1 year even with an obstinate man like Buhari.

Africa's richest economy is borrowing money to pay salaries as it struggles through a "difficult cash crunch" brought on by halved oil prices, Nigeria's finance minister revealed.

The news comes as Nigeria prepares to welcome a new government at the end of this month and the country's naira currency remains in a slump, hovering between 180 and 220 to the US dollar. It was trading at 160 a few months ago.

Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala tried to be upbeat in a speech on Tuesday after lawmakers approved the 2015 budget - revised three times because of slashed oil prices that provide 80 percent of revenue for the government of Africa's biggest petroleum producer.

She said "revenue challenges" had prohibited the release of any funds for capital expenditure this year but that food prices and single-digit inflation remained quite stable. And she said the economy still was on course to grow 4.8 percent this year.

"We have front-loaded the borrowing programme to manage the cash crunch," Okonjo-Iweala told lawmakers.

"Out of the 882 billion naira budgetary provision for borrowing, the government has borrowed 473 billion naira to meet up with recurrent expenditure, including salaries and overheads."

That is bad news for the incoming government of President-elect Muhammadu Buhari, who takes over on May 29 from incumbent Goodluck Jonathan.

Buhari acknowledges that constricted revenue and endemic corruption threaten his will to deliver on development and reconstruction of areas devastated by a nearly 6-year-old rebel uprising in the northeast.

He says his fight against corruption should produce the money needed to bring change to a country where oil proceeds benefit a small clique while the majority of the 170 million people in Africa's most populous nation live hand to mouth.

Critics blame the financial crisis in part on the most expensive election ever held in Nigeria, though no one knows how much politicians from both sides spent during their campaigns

Land costs just a fraction when building a house in the East. For instance, here in Owerri, you can buy land in a good location for just 3 million while it will cost you about 30 million to erect a two storey building of 6 six flats.

You can't possibly tell me that cost of building materials is cheaper in Ibadan than Onitsha. You can't tell me that labour is cheaper in Ibadan than Onitsha because we make use abo.ki labourers here who charge low rates.

It's a fact that Igbos control trade and commerce in Nigeria, even down to your OWN TOWNS & VILLAGES!! Go to any timber market, building materials market, drug market, motor spare parts market, general goods market etc in your town and tell me those that run the show there.

Ask yourself why Igbos largely live in the upscale areas of any city or town they reside in while others find it difficult to do so in reverse (check out Lagos, Abuja, P.H, Kaduna, Kano, Jos etc). There is even a general saying that Igbos are often the reason why rents are high in some places simply because they are willing to pay high prices for good houses.

I have been to Ibadan and a few other yoruba cities as well as north, so I know what I'm saying.

USA has slums but very much developed than Britain.

Lagos has slums but million times developed than Igboland.

You are always posting the old part of Ibadan which is not up to 5 percent of Ibadan. It was built when your progenitors were packing their blockoss with their bare hands. It is still better than most parts of Igboland.
.
STOP COMPARING YOUR 5 SE HAMLETS WITH IBADAN.

Do you have any place like these in the entire SE?

Travel and leave that your market place for once.

IBADAN IS MORE DEVELOPED THAN THE ENTIRE IGBOLAND.
Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State, is presently enjoying a serious boom in the real estate sector of the state. There has been an impressive turnaround in the sector unlike before. The obvious evidence of this development is how major players in the industry are now coming to Ibadan, to tap into the limitless opportunities the city can offer because the environment is peaceful and quite cheaper to run a business compared to Lagos and Abuja.

Though most of them have their offices in those aforementioned places but the land seems to be greener in Ibadan; there are so many lands and new areas to develop. That was the potential the likes of Alhaji Tunde Ologburo’s Quikborn Nig. Ltd; Otunba Olumide Oshunshina and his Megamund Nig. Ltd (Carton Gate Estates) and few others saw long before now to have hugely invested in Ibadan real estate sector. Before Adron Homes & Properties and others lately joined the fray, they have all contributed to the development of that sector in building serene, classy estates with irresistible amenities which can be bought at reasonable prices, depending on one’s level and taste. This is in addition to the existing Government Reser ved Areas/Estates and privately owned estates.

We also have other developers in Ibadan apart from the popular ones that are doing wonderfully well in the industry too. Out of these estates however, there are some that are very popular. Those that you don’t have to live in Ibadan to reckon with.

While some of them are old estates built by the government, some are newly developed estates with master piece architectural designs. But guess what? Some of these estates don’t come cheap, they are exclusively for the super rich and influential personalities. In this special report however, City People Correspondent, Dare Adeniran presents to you 10 most popular estates where the rich live in Ibadan and why they are the most talked about. Read on.

OKE AGALA ESTATE

The total turnaround story of Oke-Agala Estate located at the notorious Igbo-Agala Yemetu area of Ibadan which used to serve as hideout of hoodlums, ritualists and men of the underworld, is quite an interesting one. Now it has been fully developed and a plot of land is sold there as high as over 20 million naira. It is a well structured estate with good road network and several amenities.

IKOLABA GRA

This is one of the few government reserved areas where the rich and powerful celebrities live in Ibadan. It is highly exclusive for people who can afford it. This is where we have Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Secretariat, National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and others

.IYAGANKU GRA

Iyaganku G.R.A is exclusive for super rich and powerful people. It is a residential neighbourhood with breathtaking structures. This is where the likes of Chief Kola Daisi, Chief Bayo Adelabu, Senator Folarin and many influential people live in Ibadan. Glo Chairman, Chief Mike Adenuga also has his home (Gold Digger’s Place) within the estate. Many expertrates also live there. In fact, Iyaganku G.R.A is called billionaire G.R.A in Ibadan, with high tech infra structural facilities including a fully armed neighbourhood police station.

ALALUBOSA GRA

It won’t be out of line to describe Alalubo as Magodo of Ibadan. The estate is famous for being a place for the classy people. The selling point of the place, apart from the beautiful landscape, is the fact that it has large coverage areas, which now house many privately-owned estates, thereby making properties in this area a hot cake, as a plot of land is sold as high as 25 million naira, while landed property with structure goes for 35 to 40 million naira.

KOLAPO ISHOLA ESTATE

This is another fast developing estate near Akobo/General Gas axis. Though it was abandoned for many years but the estate has bounced back and it has since become developers’ favourite construction site, due to its location and space. Both land and developed property have turned gold here. Selling point of the estate however is the fact that its main road leads back to Dizzengolf, along Iwo-road. A plot land with C of O Title in this estate can’t be sold for less than 12 million naira.

AERODROME ESTATE

When the former Governor of Oyo State, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, proposed to convert the then abandoned Samonda local airport to a housing estate, many came against the idea but today the place has risen to become one of the most expensive and fast growing estates in Ibadan. At the initial stage, a plot of land was sold for about 3 million. But now the same land goes for between 15, 17 and 30 million, depending on location and sizes. Aerodrome GRA is a hot cake due to its location; it is on a well tarred major road, along Ojo Express road and a few metres away from the University of Ibadan. Privately owned estates are also springing up within the estate almost everyday

JERICHO

This is another government-owned estate in Ibadan and its existence is dated back to the colonial era. But now many new structures are springing up every now and then. In fact, Odua group, in partnership with a privately owned real estate company, recently constructed two beautiful estates within the estate.

ONIREKE GRA

Though it is a mixture of rich individuals living in Onireke GRA but the estate is known to be populated by Lebanese in Ibadan and that has been the case for a very long time now, perhaps because of its closeness to Dugbe (Central Business District) where most of their companies/businesses are located. It is a fully developed high brow/low density residential hub. Land or property here is quite expensive too.

AGODI GRA

Apart from being a residential estate for the powerful people, Agodi GRA prides itself as a clean and serene environment. In fact, it could be best described as the seat and home of power. This is where the Oyo State Secretariat, Governor’s office and house, the Deputy Governor’s house and the Fi
