APC members trying so hard to make Atiku the sacrificial lamb for their humiliating loss on Tuesday in the hands of the PDP. A closer look at the result showed that Atiku played NO role in Saraki's emergence though the emergence appear to "favor" him from "His OWN" perspective (though flawed).
Saraki was elected by 49 PDP Senators, 3 Kwara APC Senators, 1 Kogi APC Senator (Dino) and 1 Zamfara APC Senator (Yerima). Adding the sum will give 54 SENATORS! The other 3 Senators only God knows where they came from.

So which "significant" role did Atiku play? The credit is to PDP Senators and Nigerians.

Politics / Re: Amaechi Counters Wike’s Looting Claim, Releases Government House Photos by mescapee: 10:03am On Jun 06, 2015
senier007:
Former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has countered claims by his successor, Nyesom Wike, that he looted furniture, items and accessories in the Rivers State Government House.

DAILY POST, on Friday, received pictures showing some rooms and offices, which appear to look intact.

However, it is yet to be ascertained if the lootings being claimed by Wike’s camp were carried out in rooms shown in the pictures this newspaper got or elsewhere.
Assistant State Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Sam Nwanosike had alleged that cronies of the past Governor, Rotimi Amaechi were taking the state properties in Lagos and Abuja.

Nwanosike earlier in the week said: “the liaison officer in Abuja, John Enebeli is battling with Coscharis motors to steal the two BMW cars that the Governor uses while in Abuja.

“They are still looting Rivers state Government property both in Lagos and Abuja and even in Port Harcourt.

“If you say Governor Amaechi did not allow for the looting of those items, how come he found it difficult to collaborate with the transition committee?” He querried.
But Amaechi through his media assistant, David Iyofor said that Wike had gone to “ridiculous and absurd” lengths to show his imaginary claims of vandalism and
looting in Government House in his bid to vote billions of naira for renovation of the place.

Amaechi urged Rivers people, the media and the public “to be watchful, vigilant and discern the fraudulent acts” of the new Administration meant to paint him (Amaechi) and the Administration he headed appear evil.

Continuing he said, “As I noted earlier in a previous statement, Nyesom Wike is going ahead with his plan of attempting to deride and discredit me and my administration, by blackmailing and coercing key government officials including DFAs, Permanent Secretaries and others to twist and distort legitimate government transactions in his desperation to cook-up, and fabricate baseless, concocted and unfounded cases of corruption against me and the administration I ran.

“The state bankers and some of our contractors are also not spared in this his mission of tarnishing the reputation of Amaechi. As a matter of fact, Wike has only one agenda as he governs Rivers State – the agenda to portray me as corrupt, by whatever means no matter how ridiculous and phony it looks”.

Amaechi also described as a fraud the video and pictures of the looted and vandalized Government House that Wike has been showing.

“The images are also fraudulent, arranged and executed by Wike to enable him vote billions of Naira from the state treasury to renovate and refurbish the place, while also accusing me of corruption.

“I repeat, this is clearly a game, a grand conspiracy to siphon state funds under the sub-head of renovating and refurbishing a supposedly ‘vandalized and looted’ Government House, while also falsely smear my image.

“Wike said the curtains in the Governor’s residence were looted, but even in his stage-managed images, you could clearly see that the curtains are still intact. I left Government House intact.

“Rivers people should hold Wike responsible if there’s any looting and vandalism in Government House. There is verifiable information that on May 29, Wike stopped key Government House staff including the Permanent Secretary (who’s the chief accounting officer) from entering the premises, only to shout looting and vandalism 48 hours later.

“Why were civil servants, including the most senior civil servant in Government House, barred from entering the compound on May 29? Was it to give him time and provide cover to stage-manage the shooting of the fraudulent video that he’s now gleefully showing?” the ex-governor quipped.

Mr Amaechi, this is just part one.

Watch out for the other parts of the movie. Thought you said Wike is a small boy. Why the response to a small boy even to the extent of picture backup.

Mr Amaechi, I put it to you that because you have sinister motives up your sleeves, you intentionally took pictures of the office while nobody was around.

Mr Amaechi, compare your own pictures to those of Wike and you will see the clear difference. Yours were taken while you were less busy in office and those of Wike were taken after he assumed office. He has witnesses; you don't.

JEGA01:
The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has vowed to unseat the newly inaugurated governor of the state, Nyesom Wike at the tribunal despite his assumption of office.

Wike was declared winner of the April 11governorship election in the state by the Independent National Electoral Commission. He contested on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, but the All Progressives Congress, APC, is challenging his victory.

However, APC chairman in the state, Davies Ikanya, in a statement on Saturday, argued that Wike was unjustly declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Davies counselled Wike not to embark on any long term project, adding that he (Wike) has a short time to stay in office. He also asked the governor not to change the curtains and furnitures in the Government House, because he has limited time to spend.

“Mr. Wike was unjustly declared winner by the state INEC, which never hides its connivance with Rivers PDP.

“He does not have the legitimate mandate of the good people of Rivers State to act as their governor. We remain confident that the Election Petition Tribunal will do the needful and sack him accordingly in view of the materials submitted to them, in view of the immorality associated with his occupation of the Government House and in view of the outcry of the people of Rivers State that he does not have their mandate to serve as their governor.

“As we wait to reclaim the mandate of the Rivers State people, which was wickedly seized by INEC in their desperation to impose Wike as the governor of Rivers State, we wish to state that we will not allow the blood of our members spilled to be in vain.

“We owe them and their families the duty to ensure that a God-fearing governor in the person of Dr. Dakuku Peterside is duly installed in the Government House based on the mandate of the good Rivers State people,” Ikanya said in the statement.

Davies advised Rivers people to endure whatever hardship that may come from Wike’s administration, pending the restoration of the mandate they gave to the party’s candidate, Dakuku Peterside.

Kcinho:
Governor Nasiru El-Rufa’i of Kaduna State, on Friday
said he would forfeit 50 per cent of his salary
pending when the financial situation of the state
improves.

The governor stated this in his inaugural
address, after he was sworn-in by the state
Chief Judge, Justice Tanimu Zailani in
Kaduna.

He said that the pay cut would also affect
the Deputy Governor, Mr Barnabas Bala.
El-Rufa’i also declared that the
administration would “guarantee free and
compulsory basic education for every child
up to JS3, regardless of gender, religion or
ethnicity.”

He said that in spite of the challenges
facing the state, the administration would
also “focus on jobs, security, education, and
healthcare.”

“The fact is that today Kaduna State
cannot meet its obligations without handouts
from the federal government.

“We cannot comfortably pay salaries of our
teachers and nurses and civil servants.
And after struggling to pay salaries, we
can do little else.

“We cannot fix the schools, help our
farmers, repair our roads, or treat the sick.
We have arrived at a dead end. The patient
is sick, and it needs radical therapy.”

El-Rufa’i said the situation demanded for
“difficult decisions”, adding that political
office holders must sacrifice the comfort
of their offices for the greater good of all.
“In recognition of the difficult challenges
we face, our deputy Governor and I have
concluded that the sacrifices that change
requires must begin with us.

“We have decided to take a pay cut and
donate 50 percent of our salaries and
allowances, until our fiscal situation
improves.

“We understand that leadership by example
is the most persuasive way to demand
sacrifices from all of us as citizens.
“We pledge to avoid ostentation and foolish
bigmanism, and to value transparency,
modesty and accountability.

“We will obey the same rules that we
demand of all of you; After all, the law is
the difference between civilization and
anarchy.

“We submit ourselves to the principle that
all are equal before the Law.”
On security, the governor said he would work
with law enforcement officials to
drastically reduce violent crime in the state
including “communal violence, cattle-rustling
and armed robbery.”

“We will reform the administration of
justice to ensure speedy conclusion of cases
and send a clear message that there will be
sanctions for unlawful conduct.”

He therefore solicited for maximum support
from the people of the state to enable the
administration deliver on its promises.

“Four years from now, by the grace of God
and the active support of you all, we will all
be able to say that the leaders in whose
care you have placed your affairs today
have given their all for the brighter future
that we all seek

Politics / Re: Borno Governor Attacks Jonathan, Seeks Amnesty For Boko Haram by mescapee: 10:18am On May 30, 2015
zik4ever:
Newly sworn-in Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, on Friday said his new administration would, among other policies, pursue amnesty for members of Boko Haram who are ready to de-radicalise.

Mr. Shettima, who took an oath of office to serve for yet another four years alongside his deputy, Zannah Mustapha, said he would lobby the new federal government of President Muhammadu Buhari to consider granting amnesty to the militants.

Messrs Shettima and Mustapha were sworn in by the state’s chief judge, Kashim Zannah, at the Ramat Square, amidst tight security mounted by soldiers and police officers.

Mr. Shettima’s second inauguration, although low-key, was attended by guests from within and outside Nigeria.

The governor lamented the plight of the millions of Borno residents squatting at various camps of Internally Displaced Persons at the time he was being sworn-in.

Mr. Shettima said his next four years would be dedicated to rebuilding destroyed and lost communities and also pursuing policies that would create jobs and empower the youths.

“I do not intend to spoil the celebration mood today but I simply cannot ignore the fact that as we are gathered here, looking good and so full of excitement, thousands of our fellow sons and daughters of Borno, old and young, including babies that are few days old, are displaced in their own land and country,” he said.

He added that the sad tales of destructions and the faces of “our displaced sons, daughters, brothers and sisters,” told the true story of Borno today.

The governor, who described his swearing in as “a very special day in the long history of Borno”, said his second mandate was in recognition of the effort his administration made in the past four years, “to touch your lives in several areas of human endeavour”.

He acknowledged, however, that the last four years were certainly some of the most tragic and challenging in the thousand-year history of Borno.

“We have gone through the most savage insurgency of the Boko Haram sect, which massacred thousands of our people; especially destroying the cream of Borno youth and ensuring that into the next generation, we will be faced with a demographic crisis that will challenge our creative ingenuity, to overcome,” he said.

The governor said, in spite of all these, his government still managed to remain focused to build the “basic blocks of development, in agriculture, education and empowerment.”

“And we never for a moment abandoned our people,” Mr. Shettima said. “The people appreciated how we worked with sincerity, with commitment and always defending their best interests.”

Mr. Shettima lambasted the government of Goodluck Jonathan, referring to it as “a hostile Federal Government, which lived in denial about the savagery of Boko Haram and which also saw the insurgency from the most perverted, narrow and irresponsible prism, that somehow, the insurgency had been fuelled against it, by the political and other elites of this part of Nigeria.”

“They therefore did only the barest and most perfunctory, to stem the problem. Meanwhile, our people suffered and our communities were systematically laid to waste,” he said. “Democracy became the saving grace for the people.

“With our votes, we threw out a government at the centre, which did not work in the national interest and have now voted into power, President Muhammadu Buhari, who is also being inaugurated into power today in Abuja.”

Mr. Shettima said the people of Borno now have the opportunity to put their problems before a “listening president, who would be willing to assist us with utmost dispatch, to accelerate our development.”

He said in the next four years, he would need the support of all citizens in the quest to rebuild the devastated communities of Borno state.

He promised an all-inclusive “growth that would focus on reconciliation, rehabilitation and reconstruction – the three Rs.

He also reiterated his readiness to give members of Boko Haram a chance for amnesty.

“Unless we want to engage in an endless war of attrition that will be hallmarked by the continuing destruction of lives and property, it becomes imperative that willing members of the Boko Haram sect that want to come out of the bush must be given the opportunity to be de-radicalized and then rehabilitated to become useful citizens of society,” he said.

“It is never easy to accept back into the community, those who have taken up arms, killed, pillaged, raped and destroyed. But in the long run, society must make very expensive choices for peace, reconciliation and development. We are therefore appealing to the Federal Government of Nigeria and the International Community to assist our endeavour in that regard.”
