spako4:
ABUJA – Old and incoming governors elected on the platform of All Progressives Congress, APC, have accused President Jonathan of running the economy aground, leaving them with an empty treasury.

The governors under the umbrella of Progressives Forum also stated that the president-elect, General Mohammadu would be faced with unprecedented financial challenges as he takes the mantle of leadership from Jonathan on May 29.

Chairman of the Forum and Imo State Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha made the revelation, Imagine coming from someone who is owing some civil servants in his own controlled state for 13 months and is still counting. Tuesday, after the governors paid a congratulatory visit to Buhari on his electoral victory in Abuja
Okorocha said that the non-payment of April salaries by the federal government was an indication that the economy was in ruins.
Details soon.

Some of the comments here make it appear many Nairalanders are slightly older than 6 years of age.

The mere mention of sacrifice precipitates heavy abuse. I really pity the incoming president, i hope he does not come to regret taking on this challenge(though he actually deserves anything he gets on account of the insincere promises that formed the basis of his campaigns).

But seriously, are Nigerians believing we can develop without painful sacrifice? Is change possible if we (all of us) dont change our ways? can we actually continue paying the civil service (who consist less than 1% of our population) over 70% of our National budget? By the way do you know labor is preparing to ask for further wage increases?

Which country in the world has achieved positive change by sitting back and folding their arms and had change delivered at their door steps?

Finally i think we should realize that while GEJ may not have met many people's expectations, 99% of our problems today were there before he came and when the new government comes in after May 29, we will soon understand that it takes more than a wave of hand to address them.

Best regards fellow countrymen.

You’re a bad loser, APC leaders blast Jonathan

By Our Reporter on May 2, 2015 COVER

FROM ADE ALADE AND FRED ITUA, ABUJA

President Goodluck Jonathan has been described as a bad loser who would rather continue to seek public sympathy than asking for forgiveness from Nigerians who rejected him at the March 28 presidential election for bad governance.

This was the consensus of some All Progressives Congress, APC leaders who were reacting to President Jonathan’s claim on Thursday that the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari did not win the last election fairly.

Jonathan, who spoke shortly after receiving the report of the Senator Ahmadu Ali-led PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, said himself and his party had to accept the outcome of the poll as a sacrifice to keep the country together.

According to him “The problem is not whether we lost the elections; that is history, but how do we consolidate our party and move forward? If we are committed and we work hard, definitely the PDP will bounce back.

“The PDP is still the dominant party. If you look at the results, the difference is just 2.5 million votes and if you look at the areas, where it is perceived that the PDP scored so low, the PDP couldn’t have got those kind of scores but the elections are over, so the country first.

“It is not as if Jonathan alone made the sacrifice, it is all of us. I made the pronouncement but some of us are paying the price. Some people pay more price than I do, I know how some of you are already being persecuted and the kind of situation facing you.”

Reacting to the president’s claim, APC National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed said President Jonathan’s recent statements and actions only portray him as a bad loser who is finding it difficult to recover from the shock of defeat.

He condemned the continued blackmail by the Jonathan administration as a result of President Jonathan’s concession of defeat, wondering whether the concession, gracious as it was, has now become a shield for all wrong doings.

‘’We are sick and tired of being blackmailed by the Jonathanians. Gen. Buhari won the March 28 Presidential Elections fair and square, having satisfied both constitutional and other statutory requirements. We have no apology for our victory, and the concession of defeat – while it may have increased the political stock of President Jonathan, the election has by no means diminished the historic and emphatic victory of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress,’’ he added.

Also reacting to the president’s statement, APC chieftain Senator JKN Waku said Jonathan was only crying foul where there was none, adding that “he was defeated by Buhari fair and square.”

According to the Benue born politician, “why did Jonathan rush to accept defeat if he knew that Buhari didn’t have a clear victory? The fact that he conceded defeat early has shot up his public image, but his recent statements are only confirming to the world that he is not the person he was trying to convince the world he is. His claim is shocking. Obviously, he acted contrary to the dictate of his mind, the real him. He should stop being a cry cry loser.”

Also in the fray, National Vice Chairman of APC (North-east), Engr. David Lawal in a chat with Saturday Sunyesterday, wondered why President Jonathan would cry foul after he publicly conceded defeat. He declared that contrary to President Jonathan’s claims, results from South-south and South-east were inflated to favour the PDP.

“The man was roundly defeated. People are praising him for conceding defeat. What was he supposed to do? He was defeated in an election and what he did was not extra-ordinary. He did not have any option, but to accept the outcome of the elections. There is no big deal in the fact that Goodluck Jonathan accepted defeat. Nigeria is a funny country,” he said.

Casting doubt on President Jonathan’s new ‘gentleman’ status, the APC chief called on Nigerians to be cautious in celebrating the president, adding that he only accepted defeat because he did not have any options.

“You lost an election and you are now going round to tell people that you are a gentle man. What options did he have after losing an election? Was he supposed to go to war? Up to the time of collation of results, Jonathan’s men were still busy collecting and inflating results in some parts of the country. There is no debate here. He contested an election and he was squarely defeated. There is no argument about that,” Lawal told our correspondent.

Speaking further, he said: “Jonathan is not a gentleman and people should stop addressing him as such. He lost an election and that is it. The results that came from the South-east and the South-south were inflated, but we kept our cool. We know what happened in the president’s strongholds. If anyone should cry foul about inflation of results we should be the one. Elections did not hold in many parts of the south, except for South-west. We are aware.

“Nigerians should disregard whatever the president is saying. There was nothing the president and the PDP did not do to scuttle the elections. The show of shame at the collation centre was their last card. They campaigned against the use of card readers and did everything to ensure that elections did not hold. He only conceded because he knew the game was up. So, let us not begin to celebrate him as if he has done something extraordinary.

“Let us not forget these things in a hurry before we begin to confuse Nigerians. We cannot forget how they almost sabotaged the elections. The summary of the whole thing is that, Jonathan was defeated squarely and that is it. Whatever anyone is saying should be disregarded.”

When contacted to react to the comments by the APC leaders, PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh declined comment, saying the issue in contention is a presidency matter and not of the party

I hope you will not be missing in action when your party finally takes the mantle of LEADERSHIP come May 29. That is, when GEJ finally bows out.

I hope that for wont of what to write, you don't go disturbing GEJ in Otuoke because 90% of your recent news centres on GEJ.

Underage voters could have voted for the loser in the north. have you thought about that? He got some good votes there compared to Buhari in the south. Majority of places card readers were not used are in the south. It's only in the south and southeast results tweeted on social media did not tally with final announcements. Honestly, I think PDP must be taking Nigerians long time foolishness for granted if they continue to cry this foul and conspiracy thing. If I were APC I will still challenge the results in court and you will be surprised that 12M will be reduced to 5M. PDP is so greedy to the extent they rig even in places they are sure of 100% votes. Tufiakwa! Nigerians need to do a big thanksgiving for doing away with this party.

Now you watch and enjoy this video of a senior PDP chieftain in Delta state Chief Ighoyota Amori confess with pride how they rig elections. Exactly what have been happening since 1999 in the south and southeast.

You people Will suffer in a way that another word will have to be created as to define your suffering; They are used to suffering you people should ask yourself which people patronize your goods & Ware's more? Have you ever heard of trade by barter / self sufficiency / exportation? The Yoruba's as you all sell similar things & if so, who will patronize you? this means you are also in the same predicament as those that seceded. You get most of your agricultural products from the north, tell me how are you going to survive? Leave that to them to sort out. It may be tough but you must have come across the phrase, 'bilateral relationship. I know you will say importation from Cameroon etc, but at what price? Leave the price for them. Their resource can pay for anything, at least for now. Even the case of the south south is worse; let me tell you the truth whenever Nigeria breaks up the Igbo's will fight serious civil war amongst themselves, just like they are fighting themselves now abi? they will try to overran the south south with arms just like the have overrun the regions they presently staying with arms & the North & the West will not border to assist the south south do you mean that the SE are stronger than the SS? Are in Nigeria at all? & neither will they help whenever Cameroon attacks any of you. The West will do better than any other region in Nigeria on her own just like they are doing now abi. No wonder they said that they are starting exploration in 2016. for now, they intend Piping the resources of these regions to their regions? with some influential personnel . & the North will be assisted by Islamic countries. just like they are being assisted now. goodluck to them in their endeavor. The East will be a burden to herself, I would have love to really analyze deeply but I don't need to at this time. No need for the analysis. They have always been known as survivors no matter the circumstance. I wish people can lean from other countries eg Sudan the World youngest nation. You spoke about Scotland, but note that Scotland survives majorly because she is part if UK. Yes, but in their case, the reverse is the case. .

barcanista:
1. Buhari/APC To Pay 25m Unemployed N5000 Per Month
Cost Implication:

The implication here is that the sum of N125billion (ie 25million * N5000) will be spent to service this policy every month, and an estimated N1.5 trillion (ie N125bn * 12 months) will be spent on this policy alone every year.

2. Buhari/APC To Provide Daily Meal for Primary School pupils.
First, the FG has no business with the running of Primary schools. This is the responsibility of States and Local Government. However, Buhari's administration pledged to provide at least one meal per day for Primary school Children, we shall hold him accountable.
Cost Implication:
Osun State reportedly spent N3.2billion in 2014 for the feeding of 300,000 primary 1 to 4 pupils in the state. The Osun state program exclude pupils in Primary 5 and 6. If we are to break it per pupil, we will have N10,667 per pupil(ie 3.2b/300k). Considering that over 35million children are estimated to be enrolled in Primary school across the country, at least the sum of THREE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY THREEE BILLION (N373b) is estimated to be spent on the program annually(ie 35m * 10,667).

Gross Annual Estimated Cost For Both Programs
N1.5trn + N373b = N1.873trn

That means Buhari is to increase our Recurrent Expenditure by N1.83trn.

How Feasible Are These Programs?
Let us take a look at the key component of the 2015 Budget(as adjusted by the Senate).
Total Budget Stand at N4.3trn.
Recurrent Expenditure: N2.58 trillion
Capital Expenditure: N700 billion

From where will Buhari See N1.8trn To Service His Social Programs?
- Remove Subsidy? If he's thinking of scrapping fuel subsidy, the adjusted allocation for petrol subsidy in 2015 budget is N100billion. The adjusted allocation for SURE-P is N21b, while the subsidy for kerosene for 2015 was adjusted to N45.5b. This gives a total of N166.5b.
Even if he should scrap SURE-P and remove the petrol and kerosene subsidy, he still won't be able to get 1% of the N1.8trn.

- Spend All Capital Expenditure + Subsidy? Even if Buhari is to spend all our N700b Capital Expenditure on his Social program in addition to the N166.5billion subsidy funds, it still won't be enough as it will fall short of One Trillion Naira.
N700b + N166.5b= N866 billion

- Money Appropriated To NASS? The total budget for the National Assembly for 2015 is N115b. Even if Buhari is to spend this money + subsidy allocation + Capital Expenditure to fund his program, he won't be able to raise the required fund. As all appropriation combined stand at N981billion(ie N700b + N115b + N166b)

So How Does Buhari intend to raise N1.873trillion to fulfil this social welfare pledge? Does this mean the administration has failed even before starting? Dead on arrival?

It is too early to bring to fore the reality of APC's out-of-the-moon promises.

Allow them to take the hot seat first and after 100 days in office, remind them of the futility of most of their promises.

Is it not clear enough that APC is unpopular in the south south and south east?

What point is Amaechi trying to make by causing violence and killing Rivers people for a role he is not assuming himself?

After Wike is sworn in, and the probe begins and we figure out how much Amaechi spent on Buhari's campaign at the expense of Rivers people, then shall prosecute him adequately

And hopefully, Buhari who should be fighting corruption at that time cannot afford to have such criminal with stolen funds charges hanging around his neck within his cabinet.

Fisrtly, i must say your political credential, to my assesment, is poor. Kindly find out what it actually means to be a grassroot politician-A grassroot politician does not apply violence, threats, intimidation etc, as his basic tool would be his healthy connection to the the people and wide acceptance by same. As a grass root politician, you dont choose yourself- the people choose you, you dont preach hate and doom-you preach peace and unity. maybe you need to know that Wike chose himself through a primaries conducted by a kangaroo state pdp exco-which he controls at the whims of his principal(the first lady). The issues about wike's candidacy continues and i assure you he is by no standard a march for Dr Dakuku Peterside. If you go to the "grass root", the masses are saying they want Peterside, the elite are saying they prefer peterside, strange as it may sound some sections of the PDP in the state have also displayed their preference for Peterside. Peterside has warmed himself into the hearts of the majority of rivers people, not because he was chosen by the APC or Gov. Amaechi, but by the kind, gentle, humane and sincere disposition with which he has conducted himself.

Also, Magnus Abe, as you mentioned already had issues with his kinsmen before the primaries, an issue that made his kinsmen warn the APC that they would vote for anyother candidate should the APC adopt him(Magnus Abe) as her candidate. The choice of the party, i assure you is in the best interest of the party and the state at large.

Long Live Rivers State!
Long Live The Federal Republic Of Nigeria!!

The fonts in bold refers.

I agree with your characteristics of an ideal grassroot politician. But you will agree with me that this has not been applicable to Rivers especially in past elections and this present one.

You will also agree with me that when Amaechi defected to APC, PDP was almost dead in Rivers State. I believe you must have heard about GDI. That initiative is what I refer to as Grassroot Politics. It was virtually everywhere in Rivers State. All of a sudden PDP sprang back to life.

Wike won the primaries, not because it was a "Kangaroo State PDP ex-co....." as you said, but because he was (and still is) a grassroot politician. No wonder the other contestants were no match for him.

Yes some sections prefer Peterside as you rightly said. These same sections of people will vote for Wike because Peterside was handpicked by Amaechi. That is the only grievance they have against Peterside.

You know why?

Peterside will cover up Amaechi's misdemeanors in office. Amaechi did very well in his first tenure but totally messed up in his second tenure. It may interest you to know that most of the said achievements he used as "flash points" in his second tenure were executed in his first tenure, especially those in education and health. As I write this, Rivers Judiciary has been crippled for months now.

Rivers people will vote for Wike come tomorrow (Saturday, April 11) so that Amaechi's gross abuse of power and office wiil be laid bare when Wike finally takes over. No wonder Amaechi has turned into a 'crying wolf'.

Since APC's mantra is "Change" and Buhari has committed to "Zero Tolerance on Corruption", Amaechi's case will be presented to Buhari on a platter of gold.

Note 1: Wike and Amaechi are one and of the same kind. They know each other very well and know their capabilities. Wike will expose Amaechi"s dealings when the time comes. And for this, Rivers will vote for Wike.

Note 2: Tonye Princewill is a better candidate when compared to Dakuku Peterside or Wike. Well, wishes are not horses.

I have been in Nigeria for quite a while and it beats me how a people can be so insensitive, attention seeking and never know when to give up.

I have always tried to stay away from political discus especially when it is difficult to be objective or expect that the other party tries to be, no matter how little.

Oby Ezekwesili is one woman who has had her chance to build Nigeria, how much she was able to impact on the polity is a topic for another day.

She obviously, like most of us, wanted to hold on and remain in the political space and especially considering the fact that her party was still in power. But Uncle Joe wouldn't have any of that and that explains her fighting from the other side (very understandable)

She had done her best in trying to ridicule the Presidency especially using her bring back our girls campaign. Not my business.

She had openly identified with the opposition. Understandable

But she doesn't have the right to choose whom our heroes are.

Our lives are not lived on the TV and might not worth anything to her other than a veiled advocacy which of course would be belated. So we choose our hero who made sure nothing happened to us.

After the conduct of the Presidential Elections, a lot of us, Corp Members, Market women, Christians living in the north (even where they are majority) slept with our eyes open, looked back with every step thrown, left our known residents, closed down our businesses, avoided a lot of places, vowed not to be part of of the elections anymore due to the obvious danger should GEJ do what Oby and those she worked for do just to win an election.

Our lives were in danger, our investments stood the risk of being torched by irate un enlightened followers who do not understand. How a democracy works.

But this man decided not to let all these happen, he didn't use the tools at his disposal to ensure he remains there and when he lost, he didn't cry on national TV wiping up sentiments and threatening to bring down the heavens, he didn't wait for people to act first and cause mayhem which off course would have been replied, he acted first.

He conceded defeat and on time, no protests that would have led to the loss of lives, all the fears were allayed and the known violence that would have followed if the result turned the other way averted.

So GEJ is my hero, and that of a thousand folks whose being and well-being were threatened.
He doesn't have to be yours given that you were made irrelevant in his government, he doesn't have to be yours since your loyalty unquestionably lies the other way, he just doesn't have to be your hero but don't tell us whom our hero should be.

#GEJdnewface of democratic Nigeria

Politics / Re: Jonathan Is Not A Hero – Oby Ezekwesili by mescapee: 8:04pm On Apr 03, 2015
Monogamy:
Leader of the Bring Back Our Girls group and former minister of education, Mrs. Oby Ezekwesili, has said that President Goodluck Jonathan does not deserve the hero tittle for accepting defeat in the just concluded presidential poll.

DAILY POST reports Jonathan, before the INEC chairman could announce the final result of last Saturday’s presidential election, had called General Buhari to congratulate him for winning the election.

Following his decision, many Nigerians have been praising the president for saving the entire nation from disaster.

However, Ezekwesili says if only Nigerians knew the extent of damage President Jonathan has done to Nigeria, they won’t hero worship him.

She took to her Twitter page on Thursday, to air her views on the recently held presidential election.

She tweeted: “When a review of President Jonathan’s administration is done, we’ll realize how much damage sycophancy did to governance. Example? Chibok Girls,” she wrote.

“A leader must be without an inordinate desire to be serenaded with ‘good news’ or their team will never let them know the true state of affairs.

“An environment that rewards sycophancy encourages team to withhold accurate ‘bad’ news (problems) from the leader while serving up ‘good news’.

” When a leader makes hero worshiping costly to those who engage in it, he/she deprives the ‘sellers’ market to set the ‘Mediocrity Benchmark.’

“A critical success factor in governance is for the leader to both in word and deed convey a culture that abhors sycophancy. No hero worshiping.”

Madam, you've already made a name for yourself.

Like Jega said, you were a former minister of the Federal Republic and by extension a states(wo)man. You should be mindful of your conduct (and utterances) in public.

My 2 cents.

this proves nothing malicious.

The decree was SPECIFICALLY targeting those who spread FALSE news about government offivials or government.

In fact, we should add such to our constitution so those lazy 20 kobo journalists that publish whatever news the highest bidder wishes Nigerians to read can sit up.

We need factual news, the likes that have been thoroughly investigated before being published, not the useless akara sellers gossip that passes as news in our tabloids

Is that so?
