LBanks: Please someone should help me. Since yesterday, if i click on the wireless network icon on my laptop, it doesn't pop up (the way it usually does before, to display various available wireless networks). Does it mean i can't use wireless on my laptop again?

My suggestions is;

1) Be sure that ur wifi is on. Your pc might have a external switch to turn it on or off

2) If its on, Check device manager to see if the wifi network adapter has any issues. (To get to device manager: Press "windows key+R" to open run. Type "devmgmt.msc" and click enter. Locate the wifi adapter under network. Do two things: check if it indicates a fault or open its properties and ☑ if it is disabled. If it is enable it. If its fault probably missing driver you can click update to download it.

Get a windows xp cd and run installation. Simply Downgrade

Yes, you have the option to accept update when shutting down your pc as against windows 7 that will start automatic update without your consent, the updates that often makes me to put on my gen to stop the system form going bad.

Windows 8 is faster when booting and the interface is beautiful.

I hardly use my windows 7 this day.

You want a new pc, go for windows 8 and understanding how to use it is very very very easy.

As long as you can use windows 7, 8 will not be a problem.

Very true my brother. Mostly nigerians, it would take many of us a long time to get use to it. Still great interface, faster and more exciting. The best part...it makes windows 7 look so 2001 lol.

Get a windows 7 setup cd, insert, follow instructions and do an upgrade.

It should work fine. Though 1GB RAM is the minimum recommendation ans so you might experience a bit slower system. And Also wat is your processor config?

Just comsumes your harddrive space over 1gb most times.
Also have heard its not so advisable to do it frequently if you are using windows vista. Causes it to become slightly slower.

My Dell D610 is having this problem, if I turn it off and want to turn it on it will show the normal green light as if it will boot then make a small click noise and turn off. I've tried all solution.. Draining static power still it won't boot. If I remove battery and plug power direct it still won't boot. It is charging when I plug it but to boot is wahala. Sometimes after many tries it will boot and work fine I will be using sleep method till whenever I turn it off then to bott again is wahala. Please help.

Like onegig has said mostly your RAM or VGA (video card).
First thing, if you can check your RAM. If you have more than 1, remove one and then restart to test. If same problem happens switch off and replace d prev memory and remove the other 1 to test. Just 1 of d RAM might be bad. If problem still persist you need to check your VGA and possibly other devices like processor.

Few things could have caused this. One I believe is improper shutdown of your pc either by you or probably thru power outage.
What you will need to do is:
1) If your computer has a recovery partition, you can run recover.
2) If it doesn't, Try get a bootable cd of your particular windows, insert into your cd drive and run it. You might need to set your computer to boot from cd drive thru setup. When the computer boots, use the "repair windows" function to try repair your windows. Follow the instructions.
Do not format the drive if not you will lose all your files!

The only problem I have is that the cursor dances very erratically on it own accord and hide and refuses to respond to mouse. clicks . This makes using the system very difficult. I showed a technician, they did not have a clue. I learnt is a known problem with dell, any solution for this?

Most likely you need to change your charger. In correct power supply can cause the system (and cursor) to drag. Check the volt and amp on your charger to Make sure it corresponds with what is written @ the back of your laptop. Also try finding and using another charger for your same model.

sleeky8: The fan is not making any unusually noise and the base of the laptop is hot. It does not restarts itself, it just shuts down and there is no error msg. If I turn it on, it works for lak 45mins and then shuts down

Your system is over heating most likely that's why it goes off. Which means your fan can't do the job well anymore. So take so preventitive measures.
1) Don't place your laptop on any stuffy surface like your bed
2) Support the pc by raising it above any flat surface you place it on. You could use a book for instance. This will allow more air.
3) Either change the fan to a more powerful one or buy an external fan. Regular ones cost like N1500

Also if you can get your hands on a diagnostic software to check the temperature of your board that will be good. Recommended temp for pc is btw 40C - 55C during usage. Anything above means problem!

electromag: I am using Lenovo L430 laptop and I'm having internet data issues with it. When I plug in my modem to connect to the internet, even without opening any browser my data usage is unbearable. A program is downloading on the background I don't seem to get. I have disabled windows update and check startup prog yet can't figure out what is consuming the data. Please I need urgent help on how to disable this program.

Have you disabled your anti-virus? Also might not be a startup program instead an installed program like adobe reader which has been allowed to check and download updates once internet is available. So do:
1) When you disable any program including windows update be sure to select "never update" or "don't check for updates".
2) next time you enter the internet, open your task manager (press ctrl+sht+esc) and goto process tab. You should be able to see the programs that are running and end the one trying to download updates.

Some of Your old drivers might not be compatible with windows 7. Go to sony website, search for your computer model and then locate the missing hardware drivers for windows 7. Download them and install, then restart your pc.
2) Or you can go to your device manager, select the not working device and right-click for properties. When the pop up menu shows go to the driver tab and click update driver. It should take you to the website to download the driver. After download, install and restart.

You might have mistakenly deleted or replaced your hibernation file. Which if you have the option I know is to either find it online and download it (alwayz over 1Gb in size) or use your system restore to back date your pc to a time before the update you installed.

v3: Block? How?
I don't think an Antivirus disables your internet connection, rather it blocks selected apps from connecting to the internet which you can disable if you know how to go about it. If you're still having trouble getting online, disable the AVG and use Windows in-built utility (Windows Essential). It's not a full-blown Antivirus but it
doesn't block your internet.

Better still it might be your firewall program that's blocking your internet connection not your antivirus. Antivirus catches and blocks only viruses and malwares. But the firewall is what give permission to any program on your pc. So check your firewall program.

You might have installed a wrong software. Try going thru safe mode and uninstalling the drivers and then restart to see if it works. If it doesn't, if you have a bootable cd throw it in and try 2 repair windows.

Wat is the exact error code? One of your hardware is surely bad. Most likely your ram (memory) or hard drive. Or if you installed or connected any new device lately disconnect it and restart.
