May her soul rest in peace. We have a government that have no respect for rule of law. No soldier or policeman has been prosecuted for crimes against innocent citizens. From shiit massacre, to ipob executions, to this present uniport indiscriminate killings. Their Oga Buhari old soldier no send "abiding by rules of engagement". They may be encouraged to be more unruly in the future, after all, "nothing mega ". In the face of boko haram, they become meek cats while in the presence of unarmed citizens they become roaring lions. Restructure Nigeria Now!
PoliticsA Restructured Nigeria - How Will It Look Like? by mesoprogress(op): 5:16pm On Apr 17, 2016
The only way to get the best out Nigeria is by restructuring. Our fundamental problem is federal allocation and crude oil money sharing. To keep records straight, I'm not from oil producing community so I may likely lose out on oil money if the sharing stops.

But how can my state develop if it continues to be breastfed by federal government? No way! All regions in Nigeria need to be weaned from oil curse syndrome. There would have been massive and genuine agricultural and industrial revolution across mainly non oil producing regions. Government would have been more accountable, there would be no need to inflate census figures. Merits of restructuring cannot be emphasized. It will help everyone. We would not have felt the oil slump as much as we do now, unemployment rate would be low. The people I pity most are jobless youths from certain region of the country that support the "Commonwealth sharing". The truth is the shared money doesn't get to masses. It ends in the hands of their regions elite. That's why every meaningful nigerian would support restructuring.

In the event Nigeria state fails to restructure, I fully support self determination movements through proper channels. For there's no equity in the system we are practicing presently, it's counterproductive. People are not happy, tension is high.

Finally, I would advise Igbo self determination groups to separate themselves from so called Niger Deltans unless they willingly join the cause. Or else, you have another mini Nigeria loading. I strongly believe that Igbos are the only group that desperately want out of this Union and they will survive if successful!

I hope for a better Nigeria not built in inequity, we are all Africans. But if we cannot make progress together, the most logical step is to go our separate ways.

Peace!

If God willing Nigeria breaks up, I would advise Ndi Igbo to form a country of themselves. They understand themselves and would do wonderfully well. Two or three Inland seaports are what they need, Aba, Uwana / Ndibe, Onitsha. Watch and see African power house unloading... ... ...
Christianity EtcRe: Can Drinking Alcohol Stop A Genuine Born Again; From Making It To Heaven? by mesoprogress(m): 2:24pm On Apr 17, 2016
Peritus:
Bible does not condemn taking of alcohol, but condemns and forbids drunkenness.
To your question, yes, it can lead one to hell. If you walk in the spirit, you will discover that alcoholism fights against the spirit because it makes the mind volatile and weakens the body, thereby making it susceptible to sin. You have to avoid, not only sins but circumstances that lead to it.
Proverb 14:12 says that there are ways that seem right but the end is destruction. 1Cor 10:23 says, all thing are lawful for me but not all things are expedient: all things are lawful for me but all things edify not.
The question is: are you at you best behaviour and well positioned to worship God truly in spirit when you take alcohol?
The sole reason one can take one bottle, then add another and another is simply to get high. That getting high is where the problem lies.
Don't get me wrong, you have not committed any sin just by tasting/taking alcohol.
I stopped drinking beer, not because of sin, but because my spirit repulsed it while my body yearned for it.
Good points. I do take alcohol but very little at a time. A glass or two of red wine, not more than one can of beer. No spirits! As a Christian, I even do this sparingly and socially not to appear holier than thou. God bless you.
BusinessRe: Interest Rates Will Still Go Up — Emefiele by mesoprogress(m):
Sorry sir, our economy will continue to dance for a long time unless crude oil prices rise. It's not rocket science, we are an import dependent country with less dollar to meet up with our purchases. I'm pretty sure you may be printing more bills to meet up with national recurrent debt as well. With these two, inflation is bound to happen.

Simple things that can help - strengthen infrastructure! Remove roadblocks in our regulations! Build a formidable road network , we have all materials needed. Decentralize electricity production and distribution, build multiple micro turbines in flow stations where you flare gases, small rivers, allow easy contribution from private investors. Encourage building at least five Modular refineries in each state. Support ingenuity of Igbos, make a very conducive environment for them to manufacture and trade easily. They are your only hope of breaking free from oil dependence!!!

Joke of a nation. Nigeria should at least build at least five Modular refineries in each state, while waiting for white elephant refinery projects. Modular refineries will take less than 12 months to commission. These refineries will be fed with crude oil tankers as against pipelines that can be easily sabotaged by militants. This will shore up naira as these amount of dollars spent daily will be made available for other useful businesses.
PoliticsFRSC Fails To Load Old-style Plate Numbers In Their Portal by mesoprogress(op): 10:59am On Apr 14, 2016
FRSC has failed to load some plate numbers on their sms / web portal authentication. Recall FRSC was prevented by a court order not to force motorists to get their latest number plates.

To enforce their new number system despite court order, FRSC has proceeded to load their online authentication system with only their new number system.

Policemen has has been harassing motorists especially at Imo / Rivers state (rivers state side) boundary along PH - Owerri extorting huge amount of money from motorists on account of this. Whoever does not pass the sms authentication will be told he has a fake plate number, that his car may have been brought in illegally or stolen. Those who try to circumvent the route and follow Ubima expressway get robbed or kidnapped by hoodlums. This begs the question if there is a connection between these Policemen and kidnappers.

Old style numbers have this format : AB12FST, New :FST12AB with Nigeria flag embossed.

SleekMallam:
Nigeria today currently generates and evacuates zero MW of electricity after pumping billions of dollars into the power sector. Nigerians have accepted this given and resorted to self help of generating power through their various I better pass my neighbor generators. Now, Nigeria is amongst the biggest producers of crude yet imports fuel which is currently scarce andselling as high as 500 per liter! people are queuing and sleeping over at petrol stations to even buy at any given price yet nothing!

until we as a people sit down and tell ourselves the truth and eliminate all structures that were deliberately put in place to keep this geographical expression from getting even the basics of things right, there can be no meaningful progress even if Obama is made our president.

It is time we as a people use dialectics of thesis, antithesis and synthesis approach to solve our national problems.
Restructuring and true fiscal federalism is the solution.

If Buhari will make good his campaign promise of 40 Naira per liter of petrol, Nigerians through their various generating sets would surpass the UK in terms of power.
I love your post or at least line of thinking , however portable generators are very inefficient in fuel to power conversation. Solar farms can be built in far north, wind farms at our coastal regions. Individuals can in invest in grid-tied solar schemes. We burn millions of cubic meters of gas daily in flaring. We can build micro turbines and tie them to the grid. No need to wait for white elephant power projects. We need innovative and emergency response.

Building houses means creating jobs as somebody will sell the cement, a mason will fix the blocks, a plumber will do the water system, mama Nkechi will sell food at the site, Papa Chukwuma will use his bus to take workers to site, Gbenga will do the POP, Ahmadu will sell Suya to the carpenter after he gets his pay; Dangote Cement distributor in Enugu will employ more hands to load his trucks.
Mass Housing, real estate and capital projects is one of the key ways of creating jobs even abroad in developed countries
you miss the point. All these money to be paid out comes from revenue allocation. You create temporary jobs from allocation money. Unsustainable venture. Mind my word "Unsustainable". Problem with our youths is lack of ability to think critically. Lack of vision and insight. Governors come and go yet we don't make progress as a nation. We turn to praise singers. We should leave housing scheme to private investors, mortgage outfits. Pathetic youths that can't think or see. Shame

Britain will have too much electricity this summer due to the growth in wind and solar farms, National Grid has forecast, warning it could be forced to issue unprecedented emergency orders to power plants to switch off. ...http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/04/07/uk-will-have-too-much-electricity-this-summer-national-grid-fore/

Why are we behind in Nigeria? We are using obsolete methods of electricity generation and distribution. In the UK or other developed countries, you can sell electricity to government, no matter how little it is. You can feed excess solar, wind or even biogas generated electricity to the grid. Their method of power distribution and generation is decentralized. People are encouraged to invest in power no matter how little you produce.

Problem we have here is that everything power rests on government. No free market, no ingenuity. Things are me5sed up big time. Don't even know where to start. In the future, I'll encourage intellectuals on this forum to form a think tank forum. Perhaps we can come up with innovative solutions, perhaps government will listen. The present blame game is taking us nowhere.
PoliticsRe: Enugu Build 2,500 Houses For Civil Servants by mesoprogress(m): 9:27am On Apr 13, 2016
Seems everyone is blind to what is happening. Enugu is largely run on allocation from federal government, federal government is funded from oil sales. If oil finally becomes very cheap, allocation will reduce, no money again to pay so called civil servants that will live in the house project. Northern governors like El Rufai are already attracting foreign investors. The key point is being self sufficient in the face of dwindling revenue. House projects are wonderful, but it is a misplaced priority in the present condition. See https://www.nairaland.com/3044605/way-out-mess-nigeria-part

Firstly, there is no evidence Buhari ever collected that money from them. He was warned sternly not to take loans from the EU or US.
Secondly UK aid is OUR MONEY. UK can never aid Nigeria because to put it simply all it has is ours. Our exploited wealth. We know this so they should please come up with another deception because this "aid" one has ran its course.

Misplaced priority, instead of spending this money in housing, Enugu should partner with private enterprises and investors to create jobs for its population. What we call development in Nigeria is not sustainable. D

PoliticsWay Out Of This Mess In Nigeria - Part 1 by mesoprogress(op): 3:09pm On Apr 12, 2016
It's noteworthy that this country has been suffering since after civil war . Our problem is not that of corrupt failed leaders but a failed polity that muzzles economic development. We are practicing federalism upside-down, that is why we don't see development. Let me explain this a little more.

Each State gets allocation from Federal government from which it runs it's affairs, including the local councils. Even if the state couldn't generate a kobo, it has hope of meeting it's target from federal allocation.

How does federal government get the money it shares? Majority come from crude oil sales. After oil slump, it became difficult to sustain this faulty polity.

Before the civil war and Aguiyi's introduction of unitary government, regions were fending for themselves and were productive. If Nigeria has practiced true federalism, councils and states only need to pay federal tax from proceeds emanating from their localities be it natural resources or business endeavors. This way, federal government does not need to fund any state, rather states will fund federal.

How would this help us? If Osun state knows that they are going to get zero allocation from federal government, they would work hard to generate revenue internally. They can even borrow money from world bank or IMF to build a mega refinery as a source of income. They would also be forced to run it efficiently! That's their only hope of income! No feeding bottle federal system. States like Enugu and Anambra might invest or attract investors in natural gas and coal fired turbines, have more efficient tax return from Onitsha. No time to waste! Every kobo counts. Middle belt will invest heavily in Agriculture and even processed agro products instead of selling them raw overseas.

Federal Government should serve as a regulator of lower government tiers and also engage itself with national security. Occasionally they can bailout weak states and local governments. Any state that could not survive should be merged with other states. With merging, operational costs reduce. See how it helped banks!

If we have practiced true federalism from outset, we won't be in this mess now. Our economy would have diversified naturally. It is never too late to turn around. As long as federal government funds states and LGAs, they would never embark in fruitful projects. Embezzlement will continue. We need more than a righteous president to put the country on the right path.
